They don’t serve real Chettinad biryani, they serve tomato rice with meat garnish. Watch out.

Avoid at All Costs This place is an absolute disgrace to Chettinad cuisine. We ordered drinks, and they couldn’t even get that right – all we got was water! The starters were a joke; we ordered seven different dishes, and every single one was a disaster. Drenched in food colouring with zero authentic flavour – none of it resembled Chettinad food in the slightest. Moving on to the mains, it only got worse. We ordered chapati and got served store-bought “elephant atta” chapatis. And the curries? Completely unrecognizable – we couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be mutton or beef, and the taste was horrendous. The kothu parotta was simply chunks of parotta drowned in some lamb gravy that smelled so bad we couldn’t stomach it. We ended up paying £260 for this nightmare. If you’re looking for terrible food and a complete waste of money, by all means, go here. Otherwise, avoid this place like the plague

Got recommended this restaurant ahead of going to a concert at De Mondfort Hall. Very accommodating, let us sit where we liked for ease of room. Drinks got a little muddled but no big deal. Staff were very friendly. The food was very good and had plenty that you don't always see elsewhere. It was also very reasonably priced. Lovely décor and atmosphere. Bill was fetched swiftly which was always appreciated when other appointments. Will be going again.

Good service late on an empty Thursday night. The food was good, *but* quite hot. The 'tomato rice', for instance ('Steam rice mixed with South Indian tomato masala sauce.') was good quality, but from that description, there's no indication that it's as hot as a b4stud. Likewise, the Chettinadu Kolli, which was nicely-cooked chicken in a greeney/grey thin sauce was pretty hot. No indication of that - and no attempt made by service to describe or enquire about our preferences.

Something has changed or it’s overrated. Everything was below average. The place definitely needs a clean up, very poor hygiene from stained cutlery, sticky menus and smelly dirty toilets. The food is average. There are many other good South Indian places. Wine came warm probably was stored next to light or fridge. Chicken curry the chicken tasted stale & hard. I have to say the starter prawns was amazing and the aubergine was good with the main course.

The variety of dishes—served on a banana leaf—includes classic items like avial, sambar, olan, thoran, and payasam, to name a few. The meal is an explosion of flavors, from the tangy pickles to the sweet payasam, representing the true essence of Kerala cuisine. Was disappointed with the service which was slow and disorganised We were a party of 15, and had no dedicated wait staff, starters came out in peace meals and were cold and not of a high enough quality to justify the wait Mains were OK, but I would expect better from a specialist south Indian restaurant. We visited this restaurant in June 2024 for my nephew's first holy communion reception. A table was booked in advance to dine in for a party of 14. The decor was nice, the staff were polite but the service was slow. Our order arrived at different stages, with some of our party half way through their meal before the rest of the food arrived. 3 of us ordered the mixed seafood which was extremely disappointing. When this arrived it looked like the fishermen did not have a successful catch that day. The expectation was a healthy mix with a generous portion of mixed seafood, what we were served was rationed to 2 prawns, 3 pieces of tiny squid and 4 pieces of stock cubed tiny sized fish swimming in sauce. I asked one of the waitresses why there was such a poor assortment and minimal portion of seafood and was informed that is how the dish is served. We also complained to the manager but received the same response. The mistake made is that the dish was not returned, which it should have been. Although the sauce was tasty, we couldn't get pass the absence of seafood. Needless to say I will not be eating at this restaurant again.

I recentlychettinad restaurant in leicester and I was thoroughly impressed by the experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the tone for an enjoyable evening. The decor is modern yet retains a traditional charm, making it a perfect setting for both casual and special occasions. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians. I started with the vegetable samosas, which were crispy and packed with flavor. For the main course, I opted for the lamb biriyani. The lamb was tender and perfectly spiced. The side of raita complemented the spicy dishes well, adding a refreshing balance to the meal. I also appreciated the variety of rice options available, allowing diners to customize their meals to their liking. The service was exceptional. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations. They were also accommodating to dietary restrictions, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for everyone at the table. One of the standout features of chettinad is their commitment to using high-quality ingredients. This was evident in the taste and presentation of each dish. The portions were generous, making it great value for money. Overall, chettinad restaurant exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a fan of Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this restaurant offers an authentic and delightful dining experience. Definitely avoid! The atmosphere was bland though the service was good. The food however was horrible. 6 of us in the group each had the mix seafood and it was probably one persons fish which was chopped up into tiny bits and each person got two bits slightly bigger than the size of a dice. It was in the most watery curry and two minute squid rings and two tiger prawns. The biryani and kolli however were good but I’ve had better in more than enough Indian restaurants. We complained to the girl when she served the food and she said that’s how it is. The manager at the end of the day said we should have complained to him! Got a £20 voucher as a gesture of goodwill but they know we will never set foot in there ever again. The food was terrible!

The food was alright at best but the service was downright horrendous. I expect poor service from a McDonald’s but this place was considerably worse. They brushed crumbs onto my friend, refused to make eye contact with us, left dinner glasses from past customers on the table until we pointed it out, took ages to give us our food, took ages to take our order when they were not even busy, did not give us menus, napkins or cutlery until we asked, up charged us on multiple items, and refused to split our cheque. The staff were friendly enough but a little inexperienced, for example, we finished our starters and placed the used cutlery on the plate, the waitress handed them back to us, and would’ve just placed them straight back onto the table if I hadn’t looked around for a napkin. Also, mid way through our mains she asked if we’d like desserts. The food was ok, but a little bland and our main lamb dishes tasted almost the same. I was a little shocked that the staff allowed the salad to leave the kitchen as it was brown. I doubt we’d go again.

We arrived early Saturday evening without a reservation, and although the place was packed, we were quickly found a table. As others have mentioned, the menu is not what you get in a bog-standard curry house, so if you are unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine, you may initially feel a bit outside your comfort zone when ordering. We ordered a veg thali, Aadu Chukka (Lamb), Pepper Chicken and Mushroom Rice. It arrived in a reasonable time and was very tasty and enjoyable. The portion sizes seemed about right; the lamb starter (highly recommended) was actually quite a generous helping. Service was generally prompt and friendly up to the point where we asked for our bill which we had to chase. Prices are reasonable for both food and drinks - our bill for two came to £50 including three drinks one of which was a pint of beer. So far, so good. There are a couple of negatives though. Firstly, I am not a fan of the decor which is a bit brown and dull for my liking, with a ‘feature wall’ of rustic dark timber. Secondly, and this is why I have deducted a star, the maintenance of the gents toilet left a lot to be desired and needs sorting out. Apparently the ladies was not great either. Overall though, an enjoyable meal and we would return.

Highly recommend. The staff were very busy, hard working and catered for us very well especially as we all had different requests. The food is very good. Really tasty. There's a wide selection.

What a great find. We booked here after going to the Space center, and before our three hour trip back home as it was nearby. The online booking service was straightforward. The staff were attentive and courteous. As we were a party of 14 including small children and a baby, they catered for all our different requests as some of the children didn't like spicy food. The food was delicious. Lots of various flavors and slightly different from the usual Indian food. I would highly recommend.

This is our neighbourhood South Indian restaurant and we’ve been eating there since it opened. The food is lovely - lots of choice, freshly-cooked and excellent flavours. The kids’ menu is great. You always feel welcome, and I know our friends envy our luck in having such a nice restaurant just around the corner.

This is not an authentic South Indian Tamil Nadu based restaurant. The name is only Chettinad but the food and taste is completely horrible. Ordered a Dosa and after waiting 45 minutes I found out that it’s not made of proper Dosa batter. The rava onion dosa was really dry and the chutney they gave us tasted like it marinated in the fridge for days. If you want to have real Chettinad food, this is not the place.

Dont be put off by this review. I have actually eaten in this restaurant and it was delicious. However i think the meal i ordered isn't suited to takeaway. We ordered two Chettinad thali. I've always wanted to try this as I liked the idea of a bit of each. It is definitely something you should try in the restaurant. It was far to messy to eat at home unless you have the right tableware for it. There were a few things we didn't really like, but on the whole it was very tasty. I was disappointed that my food was only just warm and the roti where really hard and cold. The delivery man was very nice.

Myself, my husband & 2 friends arrived at Chettinad for a meal. We ordered cocktails and wine before placing our food orders. Myself & my husband had the vegetarian mixed starter which was very nice. Our friends shared a meat & vegetarian starter & said that theirs was delicious. The main courses then arrived. I had chosen the vegetable korma. My meal was stone cold. The metal plate that it was on had no heat to it at all! My husband and our friends dinners were hot. I called the waiter over & explained that my meal was cold. He apologised & took the food away returning 2 minutes later with a new meal which was hot. The food was really good. I did not let this experience ruin our evening out as it was just one of those things. I will certainly be returning.

This was a surprising discovery. Never expected such authentic Indian taste. I can say this is the tastiest Pav Bhaji I had so far in US. The pakoras, cutting chai and curries are amazing. Definitely give it a try. Especially for those whose tastebuds are missing Indian food badly.

Ordered food to be delivered, It took them over a week since we ordered from them to deliver to an elderly relative, they said it would be delivered today on the 08/11/24, when we phoned the day before, the woman said she was 100% sure it would be delivered, only to find out that they never actually sent it, when we phoned again the guy on the phone was really rude about it when we asked for a refund he just hung up the phone on us, would never order from them again, they are absolute scammers, will also be taking this up with paypal to get our money back.

Waitresses are the best thing about this place unfortunately not the food
