We booked this place for our anniversary meal as the reviews were quite positive. The staff were friendly enough but a little inexperienced, for example, we finished our starters and placed the used cutlery on the plate, the waitress handed them back to us, and would’ve just placed them straight back onto the table if I hadn’t looked around for a napkin. Also, mid way through our mains she asked if we’d like desserts. The food was ok, but a little bland and our main lamb dishes tasted almost the same. I was a little shocked that the staff allowed the salad to leave the kitchen as it was brown. I doubt we’d go again.

Fab restaurant with an interesting variety of food. Their main dish is the dosa - a fermented pancake sort of thing. I had a chicken curry (I can't remember the name of it); it was delicious but a bit spicy for me! Also, you have to pay separately for the curry and rice.

Went there last night for a meal, just ordered the meat/veg starters and mix range of dosa. Food was average. Service was fine as the restaurant was empty when we arrived. Major issue was how disgusting and dirty the toilet where!!!! Makes me think how dirty the kitchen is. I wont be going back there again and I think you check the hygiene rating before going to any restaurants

I had a worst food experience fromchettinad restaurant today. I went with my family we ordered paratta and chicken mappas and milk shake. Paratta was frozen and it was just heated and it was very hard to eat as it was like rock and the curry was very disgusting too. We felt like vomiting after eating. Milk shake was very sugary and my son was not able to drink it.

Out of our urge to explore typical South Indian delicacies, we landed up in Chettinad Resturant. It was rainy chilling evening and we were ok for being late to a good lunch. But our wait was worth it. The moment you enter, the fragrance makes your mouth water. We got a cozy place and were excited reading the menu. We ordered for a family non veg platter and chicken lollipop. The taste was mid boggling especially the masala mutton, fish, chicken 65 and fried prawns. We couldn’t resist and placed the same order again. Now we plan to visit again and order the non veg thalis which looked really yum while passing to other tables.

Popped in before a show at DMH. No booking, but were accommodating despite being pretty full. Good, friendly service, with food arriving within a few minutes. Very tasty. Massive prawn dosa for a tenner or so. No indication on menu of spiciness however (hence 4 stars for food). Leftovers (pepper chicken) taken home and used for 2 subsequent meals! Would give it more time next time to not be do rushed.

Why only 3 Stars? Food was great (although portions I thought were a little small but that's OK), Service was excellent - nice welcome, friendly and smiley faces All good.. BUT...and this is serious for me... the "facilities" (toilets) were absolutely disgusting. Dirty, smelly, cobwebs all over the place. We visited on a Tuesday, early evening and even if they had been really busy during the day (which I doubt) there is no excuse for this. Quite simply we will not return because of this - my partner told me that the Ladies were just as bad. Seriously needs attention - if the public toilets are this bad then you have to question all areas of the business. Sad that this let the experience down because everything else was absolutely spot on. Get a cleaner!!!

We arrived early Saturday evening without a reservation, and although the place was packed, we were quickly found a table. As others have mentioned, the menu is not what you get in a bog-standard curry house, so if you are unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine, you may initially feel a bit outside your comfort zone when ordering. We ordered a veg thali, Aadu Chukka (Lamb), Pepper Chicken and Mushroom Rice. It arrived in a reasonable time and was very tasty and enjoyable. The portion sizes seemed about right; the lamb starter (highly recommended) was actually quite a generous helping. Service was generally prompt and friendly up to the point where we asked for our bill which we had to chase. Prices are reasonable for both food and drinks - our bill for two came to £50 including three drinks one of which was a pint of beer. So far, so good. There are a couple of negatives though. Firstly, I am not a fan of the decor which is a bit brown and dull for my liking, with a ‘feature wall’ of rustic dark timber. Secondly, and this is why I have deducted a star, the maintenance of the gents toilet left a lot to be desired and needs sorting out. Apparently the ladies was not great either. Overall though, an enjoyable meal and we would return.

Ordered a Dosa and after waiting 45 minutes I found out that it’s not made of proper Dosa batter. Our friends shared a meat & vegetarian starter & said that theirs was delicious. The main courses then arrived. I had chosen the vegetable korma. My meal was stone cold. The metal plate that it was on had no heat to it at all! My husband and our friends dinners were hot. I called the waiter over & explained that my meal was cold. He apologised & took the food away returning 2 minutes later with a new meal which was hot. The food was really good. I did not let this experience ruin our evening out as it was just one of those things. I will certainly be returning.

I have been to this restaurant a couple of years back and absolutely loved the food. It was difficult to get proper Indian food taste in UK. 2 years later I informed my close friend's about this restaurant and made a weekend plan to eat here. It was a total disaster. 1: The restaurant was smelling bad, not the pleasant food smell but some mouldy smell. 2: the decoration pieces next to the tables had cobwebs all over them and a layer of dust. 3: we ordered veg thali, rava dosa, chicken drumsticks, chana masala, mango lassi, Kerala thali and coldrinks. 4: only Mango lasssi and coldrinks did not have loads of salt in it. 5: drumsticks, all the Currys in the thalis had too much salt in them. The masala in the dosa was just boiled potatoes with no salt or spices in it. 6: it clearly looked like they cook things out so much salt and freeze it so that it can be microwaved and served. The chapattis were clearly store bought. 7: in Kerala thali curd and some of the items mentioned were missing. Had to remind them to get them. All in all it was a bad experience and I would request hotel management to focus on your food and customer experience.

Title: Unjustified Service Charge Ruins Dining Experience. I recently dined at Chettinad Restaurant and was disappointed to discover an unjustified service charge of £2.73 on my bill. The restaurant added a hefty service fee that seemed completely irrelevant to the quality of service provided. Please note no restaurants in the UK have such a policy for this kind of damn food. Why this service charge? For just serving food to the table?? I recently dined at Chettinad Restaurant and was disappointed to discover an unjustified service charge on my bill. The restaurant added a hefty service fee that seemed completely irrelevant to the quality of service provided. Not only did the staff fail to meet basic service standards, but the additional charge felt like a blatant attempt to exploit customers. The overall experience was marred by this unnecessary fee, overshadowing what could have been a pleasant dining experience. I strongly advise potential patrons to be cautious and thoroughly review their bills at Chettinad Restaurant to avoid being taken advantage of with unwarranted service charges. Never suggest this restaurant and if it continues will be moved legally. This will not be allowed in my country and remember it is not India.

The food was amazing as always. Unfortunately the service was absolutely shocking. We chose to go here after visiting Melton Road for Diwali due to the queues on Melton Road. We attend this restaurant on Saturday 11th November 2 adults 3 children, we were sat down near a family we know very well. They ordered 5 minutes before us. Their food came out after 15 minutes, I expected ours would be another 5-10 minutes based on our time of order. The restaurant was reasonably full, but not at capacity and lots of people were finishing up. After 30 minutes we checked were our food was, to be told it was busy and it would be here soon. At this point 2 tables were seated after we had ordered received their food. Upon questioning this we were told it is because they had just ordered Dosa. 3 out of 5 in our table had ordered Dosa, 1 Cauliflower 65 and 1 Prawn Biryani. After another 10 minutes we still hadn’t received our food, another 2 tables had received their orders, after pointing this out we were told our food would be there within 10 minutes. It was. The other family had finished eating completely by the time we even received our order. Worst service we have received in a long time, 1 of only 3 parties in the restaurant with young children. A wait of 50 minutes+ for food is unacceptable. Staff when asked didn’t care citing how busy it was, it wasn’t as busy as they made out, normally you would receive a discount for poor service. None offered. We wont be returning anytime soon based on this service and lack of basic customer care.

This is a great restaurant. Very clean and lovely ambience. The music is a treat. The service was great. The waiters really do listen to what you want. I ordered a Veg thali, and I requested couple items more, and they kindly brought me. Its amazing that you can choose from either Kerala style thali or Tamilnadu style. The thali had rice and also roti. You can choose the dessert you want as well. The waiters made sure we were happy with our food. My one complaint is that the menu says '4 vegetables' in the thali, but there was only 1 vegetable. But they also brought me 'Kaara kulambu' on request that was not on the thali originally, which I feel is very kind of them. The Rava dosa was bit burnt, but I think that was just one bad apple in the bag. We were surprised by the bill, it was very reasonable. We loved our visit there, soon will go back again to try out their non-veg items.

It wasn't a bad deal, but because I'm a Sri Lankan and our country has the best kottu paratha, this one felt unfamiliar and unauthentic. This wasn't quite as good as the delirious ones I've had in my home country, though. You may give it a try. The cost was very reasonable. Cost: 29.50 for 2 kottu parathas and 3 masala chais. First time trying Southern Indian food, it was delicious. The lunch deal is amazing, generous portion and great value for money. The mini thali is such a delight for your taste buds and sight. Even the main menu offers pocket-friendly and large options to choose. The waiter is super nice and attentive. I highly recommend this place!

I absolutely adored the food and the service at Chettinad. Being on the lookout for a great South Indian restaurant, I relied on the reviews, and Chettinad exceeded my expectations. It's not often that reviews truly reflect the experience, but in this case, they absolutely did. The standout was the gentleman who served us. He had a remarkable understanding of our preferences and recommended a couple of dishes that turned out to be absolutely delightful. Beyond just the food, I am already looking forward to returning to try something new and to greet him with a warm hello.

Recently ordered a takeaway with a range of items, unfortunately the potato dish was off, both in taste and smell. The rice didn't taste fresh either. To top it off, I've then received annoying marketing texts from them after having inputted my mobile number for the order, despite never consenting to marketing!

My boyfriend and I always enjoy coming here. Wide selection of South Indian dishes that are tasty and reasonably priced. Service can sometimes be a bit slow, but staff are friendly and kind

The food was very average and mediocre. I had the rawa dosa, which was just about ok, the chutney and the sambhar was well below average. The veg starter for two was really bad, paneer chilli was totally tasteless.

Food was tasty, But the portion size were less. Order Lunch Thali on week days, Saturdays they charge extra £2 for the same plate, which sounds a bit odd. If you charge extra, you would expect the value ?

Lovely food, good size portions at reasonable prices, we really loved the variety of south indian drinks too. With 1 drink, main, rice chapatis we spent about £12 per person. We will definitely come back here.

My wife had been craving a South Indian Thali and we found Chettinad restaurant online and went to try it. Having many bad experiences with Indian restaurants, I warned her not to expect authentic flavors as most places they water down the flavors to cater to a larger demography. We were warmly welcomed by Ashwin and we placed our order and the young lad advised us that we were over ordering and helped us in menu selection. The starters and the Thalis were perfect to the point. It's the same as if we were eating in India. 10/10 for keeping the authenticity. Bravo
