The set price Sunday lunch is excellent value for money. The food was delicious, portion sizes were generous, without being excessive, and the service was both friendly and professional. A very strong recommendation!

My daughter treated me for lunch we had to send one back as it was so salty and the waitress tasted it and said it was dreadful! The chips looked like they were reheated up , the portion size was so small and so expensive for what we had sadly our first visit and our last!!! Won’t be returning!

We ordered a shrimp burger and fries for £17 and it was just very basic, small portion, a lettuce leaf ( why bother!) so many places are poor value for money and this meal was one of them.

Food was ok but not deserving of gastro-pub. Could write more but with the attitude of the staff when a complaint was made, hardly seems worth the effort. Much much better in the previous years that we have had our Christmas lunch, so shocked that this seems to have been poor value for money. May be ok for a small group. Personally wouldn’t go there again and would definitely not pay the 10% service charge which incidentally is added to the bill.

Great food, great surroundings, very friendly staff and a good experience to be in a pub that has come a very long way this last year. With new staff and management, I would highly recommended it as we come here often and enjoy it each and every time. They have snacks at the bar and people ready to serve you drinks and food. In the restaurant it is normally full so I recommend to book.

Booked Christmas Eve Lunch for family based on Xmas Menu Offer on website. (See pic as proof it existed!). Yet on arrival, they advised there is no Xmas Menu! We were forced to order from the standard a la carte menu on the pretence that it gave more choice. On the blackboard you could pick Turkey (no veg included, that would be extra). However, this meant one course now cost the same as two would have cost on the ‘fake’ xmas menu! Outrageous! A lucrative scam for the management isn’t it? How nice to actively fleece your customers at Xmas! (Not to mention illegal to falsely advertise). The food was average, too dry to finish. Complete disappointment for all of us. We had decided to eat out for our xmas meal this year (having recently lost our father) so wanted to change things for this first year. So this was an extra kick in the teeth, especially for our mother. We should definitely have eaten elsewhere but didn’t want to stress her further. So we stupidly stayed. The people on the next table sent their meal back. New arrivals were heard insisting on the Xmas Menu (having also been denied it, but pushing their rights). The staff were heard saying ‘what do we do? Another table are now insisting on the Xmas Menu & pricing’. The management need to be fined. They are a disgrace. Especially at Christmas. No shame! Never again.

Just had the misfortune to share a Christmas Eve lunch at The Chequers with the family. I say Christmas lunch but they decided in their infinite wisdom that they wouldn’t honour the Christmas menu today; so the offer of 2 or 3 courses at a set fee was abandoned also. This is particularly poor as they had confirmed it was on offer when we booked & this was the reason we went ahead with the booking.

other customers also disappointed at the apparent disappearance of the Christmas Menu 2course £19.50, 3course £24.50 (web: "Christmas Menu served from 28th November until Christmas Eve"). Ur... no! The A la Carte was the ONLY option and we were told it was the same choices. But they avoided that the price in fact doubled. A big Christmas con. We took the ethical route and decided to spend only £20 each for larks - which mean just a main, no veg. Plenty of decent wine & desserts instead at home! If other pub restaurants in the area weren't fully booked, we'd have gone elsewhere because feeling conned is not what we'd hoped for on Christmas Eve. Extremely annoyed to have chosen the Chequers, to have not heeded their recent bad reviews (having eaten there a lot in recent years) and totally unimpressed that the management don't understand that if they advertise something, they are supposed to honour it. Not festive, not impressive and a con.

We have visited here several times and always had an excellent time but today ( Wednesday lunchtime ) might make us rethink. We arrived and the restaurant was not busy but waited quite a while before being seated . We waited ages with nothing happening and eventually had to ask the surly waitress if we could order . No one asked us if we wanted drinks first so we asked the waiter to come to our table. He was pleasant and our drinks came but the waitress taking the food order didn’t smile or show any interest in us . The food was lovely but service plays a large part in thedin8n* experience . Sad to have to write this as in the past we have had very good service

Last time I visited here the meal and service was very good. Unfortunately not a good experience this time and similar to previous visits where the food and service is hit and miss. We did have a good main meal which was the pie. The rest was poor quality and disorganised / almost disinterested staff. Our starter was deducted from the bill but would rather have had it right from the start. Bar area was by contrast busy and good. Will give this place a miss next time.

Unfortunately we left it too late to get in anywhere else without prior booking. (Only midday but Yateley/Eversley pubs all booked out) My husband was happy as he wanted a roast dinner. I wanted 'smaller appetite' anything but they don't do that. I ended up with a starter which certainly was that. A 'tart' which was just a disc of pastry with a few mushrooms on it lol!

Our family of four went to Chequers for Sunday Lunch yesterday and it was exceptional. The service was fantastic and we were very well looked after. I had Pork and the best crackling ever, my husband and daughter had lamb cooked to perfection and our son had the Vegetarian Wellington - which looked and tasted amazing. With Gavi Di Gavi and white Rioja by the glass a perfect afternoon. We are always a bit wary of having Sunda Lunch out as it sometimes does not meet up to expectations but we will definitely be coming back ...... even if it Is just for the Yorkshire’s or Sticky toffee pudding.

The most pretentious restaurant I’ve ever been too! Food is so overpriced for the sub standard meal you receive, meat is dry, portions are small and drinks so expensive!(£9.50 for a G&T;) the setting is just a standard pub, nothing worth paying the extra prices for and the staff.... well they don’t really seem like they want to be there and are just as pretentious as the menu, they don’t smile or check if you need more drinks and don’t apologise when they forget bits from your order. I paid £60 for my meal and for that price I received:

This was the first time we have visited outside of the "lobster feast season". Good selection on the Autumn menu, not large but good mix. Nice specials. I ordered "moules" from the special and trout starter (with gluten free bread). A nice Cotes Du Rhone. The "sparkling water" was "normal" and exchanged. Wine was really good. A rather long wait for startersThe "moules" were luke warm and replaced. Asking for an extra gluten bread, had to go and remind them of that. OK Service and production not great but the food was excellent, loved the creamy sauce with the mussels. Both of us had the lamb shanks, excellent, with a side of carrots (small but delicious). They did remove the cost of the "moules" but they need to get this service side sorted. Food yet again was excellent, staff were friendly but they need to improve.

Sharing fish starter at £15 was mean and a bit odd....brown crab on a 1/4 toasted crumpet. I would imagine the mark-up must be around 8X which feels a bit excessive! The side dishes arrived 15 minutes after the main course was had been served and the meal was underwhelming....chicken main course was a little dry (same for the people next to us) and the creamed spinach was pretty much "cream-less" and watery. In fairness, our bill was adjusted but I would much prefer a good experience.

We booked Sunday lunch for 12 several months previously in the Well which I was lead to believe was solely for our family use. Please note that there are 3 other tables in this area which may be used by guests other than those in your group and indeed they were. I felt sorry for them as our toddlers became more fractious during the wait for the meal itself. This, by the way took nearly 50 minutes to be served which is totally unacceptable even for an adult only party.

It was so disappointing. On arrival our table wasn’t ready we were simply told “ you can go to the bar but it’s really busy” or to sit and wait by the front door. ( there was 6 of us including a newborn baby & 2 year old) We then sat down and asked 3 times to order drinks. Then they came 20 minutes later ... the order was wrong ..... twice where the waiter simply hadn’t listened. We got the menus no one came so we asked to order after 15 minutes. I asked if there was a kids menu / colouring for my 2 year old which I was told ... no they’re lost?? When the food arrived it came in different stages so we sat waiting before starting out of courtesy but the meal was awful. Yorkshire’s were burnt ... tasted burnt and bitter... potatoes cold & hard, only 2 pieces of extremely thinly sliced beef. Watery “gravy” on the plate ... we asked for 2 jugs of gravy which again was just like water. We then asked for second round of drinks, which were wrong .... again... took it back and came back again wrong. We were asked if we enjoyed our meal after the bill was bought to us. At which a reply to my “ no service and food was not good” was “ oh sorry about that” as she took a payment of over £100 from my card.

We’ve been to the Chequers at Eversley many times in the past. Our most recent visit was poor. Menu now very expensive for what you get and one of our party was served a burger that was more biscuit than burger. Clearly had been re-heated and burnt to a crisp. Tasted stale and burnt. Manager had audacity to claim it was fresh meat badly cooked. I know “re-heated”, “stale” food when presented with it. The waitress was more sympathetic than manager. Due to length of time it took for food to arrive I declined a new meal as I would have been eating on my own well after rest of group had finished. Tip for the future. Don’t argue with a customer when you are clearly on shaky ground. Very disappointed.

Eaten here on a number of occasions, generally had a nice experience, but first time for Breakfast with the family. You would think of all cuisine breakfast would be the easiest to master, unfortunately not for the Chequers. Smashed Avocado should be called sliced spring onion, the Avocado was not smashed but diced and had been sitting for some time and had turned a shade of brown, with spring onion outnumbering the avocado. English breakfast was disappointing with some items served tepid and portions that I had expected to set me up for the day causing me to contemplate Sunday lunch, and then there is the price. There are many other local establishments that do a better job for breakfast.

However 15 mins later we had not been told that our table was ready, so I decided to ask, and indeed it was. We had a pleasant drink at the bar at meantime. Later on though, our bar drinks had not been added to the food bill, so appears like the restaurant and bar work in silos. The staff are friendly but perhaps a bit overworked? Edible, but not the best - were dry, overdone and built tall to impress visually, but the overall impression was rather - how am I going to put that in my mouth since its a tower of this size... The food was okay, eventually, as mine came without the correct salad. When I queried this I was told that it was because they had a new head chef. Why don’t the staff know what each dish is comprised of? Our communications from them always states ‘from the team’, but it is not teamwork to apportion blame, and particularly not to a new member of that team. But we then waited 30 minutes and no member of staff appeared to take our drinks order. We then reminded a member of staff that we hadn't been seen to, but then waited another 20 minutes. Still no service. 50 minutes in we were thirsty and hungry and complained again. In the meantime several other dinners had been seated and orders taken! Finally after a limp apologie from a member of staff they took our order for drinks and food. One hour later a complementary bloomer arrived to help our hunger. Drinks than followed. Food followed although one diner got something different from what they ordered. Too hungry to complain we didn't argue. All in all a very dissappointing experience and won't be going back anytime soon!!!

Had early supper with family. Very pleasant surroundings, obliging staff and tasty food. Staff were very friendly and willing, order taken efficiently and food delivered quickly. I'd certainly go again - enjoyed very much.

Not sure whether this place has been taken over or they have new chefs/staff, but there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of the food. I would visit once a month on average but after last nights experience, I won’t be going back. The sharing boards were a particular disappointment. Waitress tried hard though...

Booked to have lunch at The Chequers as it was a mid point for meeting old school friends. We had a friendly welcome and a very pleasant waitress took our orders for drinks. Being a large party service was a little on the slow side but it was very busy so acceptable.

We’ve had many good experiences here over the last 15 years but since the excellent Jordan left a couple of years ago The Chequers has struggled. Our most recent trip was very disappointing. Very average food which was poorly cooked and not well presented, slow, forgetful and generally not attentive service meant that we will probably not be back. Even with £45 knocked off the bill we still spent £175 and a third of that was on an overpriced bottle of Verve. Apparently they have a new chef who got overwhelmed.

First impressions were good. The restaurant looked nice and we had high expectations. Service was slow and very hap hazard. When our starters came they were disappointing. Tomatoes and mozerella thrown on a plate and a fish platter that was fairly bland apart from the garlic mayonnaise. We had wanted to order two sea bass and two chicken dishes from the menu, but were told that they had neither. We chose alternatives of scallop risotto and steaks. The risotto was good, the steaks not cooked as requested.

Tried to celebrate my daughter moving into her first house. A celebration of the pub’s 5 year anniversary had been announced with music and free nibbles. Presumably the intention was to draw more customers. That worked, it was packed. However, there weren’t enough staff on duty.

Welcomed by very relaxed friendly staff . Food absolutely delicious . Quite a wait for the food but it was a lovely day and my birthday and as we sat outside it really wasn’t a problem . I had the vegetarian platter which was so tasty . Can’t wait to go back

As previously mentioned in another review, whilst we received a warm welcome and enjoyed our starters, the mains were very lack lustre and the service was lacking towards the end of our meal. Very quick to take our food and drink order but slow when it came to desserts etc. I think we were there on the same night as the other reviewer.

Fully agree with some of the previous reviews. Introduced two friends to The Chequers expecting good food and value for money but felt let down with quality of food. Sounds good on the menu but disappointing on the plate. Expensive for size of portions and the crab and prawn starter is a non-event. Staff seemed overstretched despite the dining room being under occupied.

After thinking about going for the last couple of years, we eventually went for an evening meal with my husband. We had a great time, the menu was small but with diverse options and a few daily specials, all focusing on good quality local products. The food, starters, mains and dessert were excellent, we could not fault them! Service was also really good, friendly but very professional and attentive. We will definitely go back!

Warm and attentive welcome. Enjoyed our food but a very inconsistent experience. Quick to ask what we wanted to drink and food order was promptly taken.

Green beans with fillet were almost raw which was a shame.Had the asparagus special as a starter which was excellent and the way it was severed was very good. Desert the cherry bakewell whist tasty the pastry was burnt and the filling dry.

Had a really lovely meal here recently and this was much better that the one we had had last time. (I think it must have just been an off day the time before) . Steaks cooked to perfection and fabulous pudding and cheese to finish the meal. I would recommend and am looking forward to a return visit very soon.

First visit for my parents, myself and my son and what a great meal. The service, ambience and of course the food all exceeded our expectations. My parents said it was one of the best meals they'd eaten out in a long, long time :) We'll be back :)

We come here regularly but were particularly impressed with the new 'spring menu'!!Crab benedict and pea/mint potatoe cakes were gorgeous and so was our kedgeree/pork belly!!As for the pudding, as normally non pudding people, we found the bread and butter pudding lovely but the cherry on the cake literally was the 'choc brownie sundae'. UNREAL!! I may have to come back every day to eat it!! Super happy! Now all they need is a day bed for snoozing!!!

This was a special occasion for us, made even more special by the staff, food and atmosphere in the place. Excellent. You must try the mixed fish platter starter, then after that they just use such wonderful meats (great butcher ). If you want a quiet, fine dining experience this is NOT for you. IF you want just great, honest food, drinks and atmosphere then it is .Thanks Jordan etc , lovely evening in a great proper pub..

Had a great night here with friends. We were well served by the bar staff who show some charisma when taking the order. Then showed through and served with the same attentiveness throughout the evening. The food was lovely and the wine choices were perfect for our table. Definitely be happy to go back there again pretty quickly and would suggest to anyone to eat there.

Last night was special - my husband and I with friends attended a "sampling" evening which was full of delicious scrumptious surprises from course to course. Jordan extolled the virtues of the locally sourced ingredients explaining with obvious glee how the ideas had come together to create each new menu item. This will be a glorious season for food lovers visiting this wonderful restaurant with its exciting sumptuous fayre, Congratulations

As a regular, whether just for a beer and/or a bite, Chequers has long been my favourite place. Always a warm welcome from Jordan and his team, the food is perhaps a tad more expensive than elsewhere but is always excellent. Last night, enjoyed the Tasting Menu to herald the arrival of the new menu which should be a real success for the next few months. Whether for breakfast, Sunday lunch or dinner, I would thoroughly recommend. Booking advisable. Oh, and dogs are welcome in the bar area.

Our first visit as fairly new to the area. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed looking at the cars as it was a Motor fest event. Food was lovely, my husband had the pie of the day and I enjoyed roast beef. Will definitely be returning. Great country location near the Basingstoke canal.

Good seasonal menu choice, loved the game casserole. Treacle tart reminded me of my Granny's. Cosy fire and friendly service. We had a nice New Zealand white, draught Aspalls and alcohol free Guinness.
