The Mill at Charnock Farm is a cosy little pub that is part of Charnock Farm. Charnock Farm is a multipurpose venue that can host weddings among other events. The food and service at this pub are excellent. This pub is dog friendly and the staff member that served us was friendly to our dog. The standout feature of The Mill was the atmosphere. It had a warm, cosy feeling with a real fire to give it a truly warm atmosphere. Charnock Farm, of which The Mill is part of, has a large, good quality car park.

Reading the other review posted, I also was there and we were freezing for a good 2 hrs of the evening, which included eating the meal. The meal was in fact lovely, however, when you are sat with your coat over your knees and wrapped in a cardigan it felt far from the meal and ambiance we expected. When booking I was told that we would all go in through the room next door and then when the meal was ready, we would be ushered into the barn area where the tables were set up. In fact the other room was in darkness and everyone was having to go in through the barn doors, which meant everytime someone entered or went outside, an icy blast came in. The toilets were indeed like a freezer - radiators stone cold - couldnt have been any colder if the loos had been outside! The temperatures and lack of staff behind the bar, spoilt what potentially could have been an outstanding evening with a great DJ. Such a shame Charnock Farm!

Attended the christmas party night on Saturday 17th December, was really looking forward to it but what a disappointment!! The room was freezing, no heating on and considering it was -3 outside it wasn't good. Complained several times asking for the heating to be put on but nothing was done about it. The open fire even went out!! Nobody appeared to be in charge or was willing to take charge. Sitting eating your meal in your coat isn't ideal at all. In addition to this the toilets were like walking into a freezer, it was probably warmer outside in all honesty!! Truly disappointed with the whole evening

I'm a type one diabetic.. if you are also a diabetic I would avoid ordering any drinks. I ordered a disaronno (if that's how you spell it) and diet Pepsi off the guy behind the bar( who looked underage). I seen him press the Pepsi button, so I said that's not diet tl witch he replied 'it is' and pointed the the diet Pepsi button.. I then said 'I'm a diabetic so it best had be'. For anyone who drinks with diabetes knows that you can not inject insulin for sugary drinks. This happened previous to this order and I thought nothing of it, knowing disaronno is a sweet drink. I then injected for the food I had ate, and noticed after 30/40 mins later my blood hadn't gone down but it was rising, so I then injected more to bring it down.. this then meant that when I got home I ended up having a severe hypo and my gf had to help me out to being myself round!! Absolutely shocking staff at the wedding I attended today and I'm gutted I had to leave early due to your staff not following simple steps like giving a diabetic the correct drink! If I was allergic to sugar and this happened I'd be DEAD!!! ( I have ended up in a coma from this mistake before and tonight could have been the same if my gf hadn't been there!) JOKE!!!!

My partner and I celebrated our wedding at Charnock Farm 05/11/21. We really had the most perfect day and we highly recommend this venue. The new wedding coordinator Clare was outstanding and we would like to pass on our thanks to her and the rest of her team for really helping us pull off our dream wedding and for enabling everything to run so smoothly on the day. The food and service were exceptional. We didn't want the day to end and my partner and I were the last ones to leave the dance floor at 1 am!

Attended a wedding in August. The weather was lovely and we made the most of being outside and chatting with family. The decor, vibe and entertainment at the wedding was stunning. However this is not what the venue delivered on, it was what the bridal party arranged. The venue is a blank canvas really and you can make it up to what you want it to be so in that fact thats good. What let the place down was the evening supper. Bacon and sausage baps and chips. Ok nothing wrong there, thats the bridal party choice. What i didnt expect from a venue like that was floured long life type baps that were stale. Very fatty (cheap) bacon and oven chips. Not enough to go around. Speaking to family a few bookings also had issues with accommodation so perhaps nice as a day do but would not recommend evening or staying over.

Avoid this venue like the plague. I booked a christening event here in May 2021 for September 2021. I returned all signed booking forms and completed everything that was asked of me. I have been in and measured corners for entertainment, spoken to staff, confirmed power points table cloths etc between May and September. Today 5 days before my event (after emailing final numbers through and being asked to contact as a matter of urgency) I was informed the event team had double booked and mine was.being cancelled. What was really annoying was I had to spend an hour on the phone with the events team justifying how it was not my fault and how I cannot be held responsible for how they book things. I had to evidence the email audit trail of my booking forms and emails to be told sorry no we can't accommodate you. Absolutely disgraceful and incompetent event management. Book elsewhere !!

After purchasing £80 per night to stay in your motel in room 1 as part of a wedding party, we expected to receive the same standard of room as my family given as it was the same price. The entrance to the building was filthy, crisps all over the floor and as I entered the room the door slammed into the bed. This illustrates the size of the room, the bathroom was filthy and to top it off we received one towel between us. I would highly recommend any bridal party to stay elsewhere.

We decided to try this place after the cabin acrossed the way shut at 4.00 although people were wanting to be served after 4.00. Turning customers away is not good customer service. When we walked in this farm restaurant a notice said dont stand at the bar a waitress will come to take your order. So we waited and waited till eventually we got up and walked out. We told the waitress on our way out we got fed up of waiting to be served.

Popped in on a busy Sunday afternoon but after being met by a manager , we were allocated a table on the verandah. The table had just been vacated so he took our drinks order whilst we waited , at a distance, for this table to be cleaned and sanitised . The young man was thorough cleaning the table and all the chairs and did have a face mask, although this was worn around his chin , not covering his nose and mouth.! Tables were well spaced out , track and trace details were taken and although service was a bit slow, it was understandable as they were so busy and the bar can only have so many staff working in that area. Payment was taken at the table as well. Felt that management and staff are working hard to keep the business safe in the current pandemic. Will go back .

Well, I don’t even know where to begin to express how magnificent our wedding day was last Friday at Charnock Farm. From the moment we booked our wedding here we had 5 star treatment from all members off staff. Especially Danielle and Jennifer who was our wedding coordinators throughout the 12 months of planning. As I was a very particular bride knowing exactly what I wanted etc I thought I’d be a nightmare and they’d soon get sick of me! But I was certainly wrong they where both there every step of the way and went above and beyond in helping me achieve everything we wanted. All I had to do was ask, send a quick email or text and they’d answer me straight away. The wedding day it self ran so soothly and I was astonished at how well it went as I’d heard lots of story’s about things going wrong with timings etc at other venues/ weddings and things being missed and we didn’t have any of that. We also used the DJ which Charnock Farm recommend and have as part of there packages. Tom from TK Leisure was one of the best DJs we’ve heard and all our guests were on the dance floor the majority of the night which was fab, they also kept commenting on how good he was. :-) giving you the option to select all your songs for the night and giving you a choice of must play, shout outs etc and a DO NOT play section for those you can’t stand at typical functions. The food... wow delicious is an understatement we chose the Ham Hock to start, Steak & chunky chips with peppercorn sauce and sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was empty plates all round with constant compliments from guests at how amazing it was.Canapés again so yummy! Charnock farm work with you for your menu and if there’s something not on the 3 different set menus they will do what they can to cater for what you do want for your special day! All dietary requirements were met to an exceptional standard and staff being fully aware of which guest it was that required it which I found so professional and such a personal touch. We honestly can’t thank you all enough for everything you did in order to make our day so perfect, you were all a pleasure to work with. Attended an Irish night with friends. A good, barn style room. The event was sold out, hardly surprising at £8 with Irish stew included. Drinks were well priced with Guinness at £5 for 2 pints ! Two chaps came on singing Irish folk songs, the only problem with the night was that it was difficult to hear them as there were so many people in there who preferred to talk,or shout,to each other. It really spoiled the night for us. Some young people did a stint of Irish dancing and were very good, the noise even quietened down for a while. The stew was very good and overall was a good night. We may try the 80's night in June. Hopefully people will be more attentive to the music.

My husband and I held our wedding reception at Charnock Farm a few weeks ago after getting married abroad. We chose the venue because it was local and we had been many times, and loved the barn area and surrounding lake. It was perfect for the intimate reception we wanted. We chose to have the additional bar area open and that provided a great space for those who wanted a quieter area and was great for the parents and younger children too who had access to the child's play room. From start to finish the whole booking was smooth, Rebeca Conroy was great, and responded quickly to all our queries and met with us several times to plan the big day. We asked for changes and for specific things, and these were accommodated at no extra cost- nothing was too much trouble, they were very flexible. The evening went perfectly, all my guests loved it and loved the hot buffet. The rooms were clean, modern, reasonably priced and the breakfast was great too! Highly recommend this venue!

We went as a family to a friends wedding and we were highly impressed. On arrival, the taxi had no problem in dropping us near to the entrance of the function room. We entered the building and the tables were being arranged for the evening reception so we found our way to the bar in the side room. This was very well laid out with plenty of space. The only disappointment being the lack of a real ale option. As the evening unfold, we were invited back into the function room and enjoyed a great evening. The bar staff were excellent and very smartly presented with the dickie bows and braces. The bar prices were also very reasonable unlike many venues which often over charge for drinks. This place is definitely on my list of recommendations for similar events.

It’s no wonder the restaurant closed if the events they do here are anything to go by. First of all I knew how much was being charged for a recent event we went to here so for the food (buffet) I was expecting something more than your average buffet. What we got was a lot less than average. In fact it was terrible. The buffet was nothing but frozen pizza (it was SO bad), coleslaw a few chicken legs and hard dry sandwiches. The quality of food was shocking. Cheap and Awful. After speaking with what looked like a manager on the day regarding the selection, she was no help and we left starving. I couldn’t believe how many guests were the same as us. It seems there is no care there whatsoever. Do not spend your hard earned money having an event here it’s terrible. Plus it costs an absolute fortune and you need your own hire of everything to make an atmosphere and pretty surrounding. Shame. I’ve heard so many bad reviews about this place I don’t know why management don’t sort it out or just close if they can’t be bothered. No doubt there will be many excuses thrown to my review regarding this experience but nothing was done on the day and my opinion won’t change.

Called in last Week. We only ordered drinks but as we went into the cafe we were met with dirty tables that had an obvious stale smell to them. The carpet was really dirty as though they had either just had a massive party in there or it hadn’t been hoovered since the day before. It was only 11am so I was quite shocked. There were lots of staff around who could have quite easily made sure the space was tidy when they moved the dishes away. There was no response from the staff at all, as in...everything ok...hello? Bye? And it wasn’t even that busy. Will be awhile before I try here again. We have ate before in the big restaurant and found that to be delightful.

All those staff and not one welcome as we walked in or any offer of a menu so got our own. We have been here twice already in previous years for Christmas. We were not disappointed this year either. Service was excellent and all the extra touches really make it a very special day. The entire restaurant was beautifully decorated and the food was excellent. We will definitely return!

We booked for 20 people on the 21st of December for our works Christmas lunch. It was great to have a complementary glass of sparkling wine and we all found the service to be exceptional. They serve quality food that you would expect from any proper restaurant and it was a refreshing change from the usual pub chains which we have been to in the last few years. Everyone agreed that we will be returning next year.

it is almost three years since my last visit and what a lot I have missed. I had a Christmas lunch today with a group of friends. We had preordered our meal from the Chrismtss menu. The melon was beautifully presented. The turkey dinner consisted of three thick slices of turkey with lovely roasties and all the trimmings. The cheesecake was fabulous and very plentiful. Little pots of tea rounded off our meal. The service was great and I can't wait to return. A lovely venue.

Lovely Christmas atmosphere, real fire too. Food very good, pleasant staff. Set menu so can't really say if there is a good choice on the menu. I attended with a WI group and they made us very welcome. Would I go again, yes.

Four of us for Sunday lunch. Menu is not available on line and there was only one roast...the rest of the menu was just their usual lunchtime Fayre, available every day. Food was lovely but the service a little slow, which we didn’t mind as we wanted to chat anyway!

It's a lovely setting, but lacks atmosphere somehow. There were surprisingly few people dining on a Thursday night. We looked at the set menu but there was hardly any choice at all so went for the a la carte. Thought the prices were rather on the high side. I chose mushrooms for starter and trout en papilotte for mains. They were both cooked adequately, but lacked flavour somehow. There were two field mushrooms with very little flavour and needed some garlic. The trout had some liquid and had chili flavouring, which was too strong for trout. It lacked any deeper flavours. Although the food was, as I said, adequately cooked I felt that I could have cooked the same dishes at home myself and ended up with food that was tastier and was more flavoursome. My partner had soup which he thought was nice and pork which looked a bit bland somehow. For these four meals, which were not over large, plus a beer and a glass of house wine the bill was about £48.

My friend and I were having a day out and the cafe we had decided to go to was unexpectedly closed. Well I'm pleased about that because we came across this place! There is super parking, easy access, friendly staff to greet you and seat you in this lovely building and a good menu to chose from. Quite often I find that there is very little which excites my palate but here there were lots of things which I could happily eat.Good quality food well cooked and something a bit different. Good coffee. Recommended ++++

Toilets in restaurant are ridiculously smallCan’t pour a pint of Guinness to save a life over expensive After walking into and area that looked like a gift shop I was rudely told to leave due to a wedding that was on but the young lady was impolite in words and body language

Visited recently for lunch with a friend. The place was totally empty so as there was only us dining, the place lacked atmosphere. The menu lacked choice but when I decided what to order, the dish was not available so I really struggled to choose. Finally decided on roast chicken salad which was nice but nothing special. Overall probably wouldn't return.

We’ve been to The Mill at Charnock Farm for breakfast many times. The food is fantastic so you can forgive the below par Thermos coffee! Usually the staff are great however this morning, the one on duty was extremely rude. Being dog owners, we completely understand not being able to take ours wherever we fancy so always make sure we check. Didn’t feel we needed to today having already taken her there multiple times in the past, so much so we even know where we are allowed to sit with her. Had the member of staff been given new info about a policy change or in fact didn’t know that dogs were actually allowed we would have understood. He has in fact served us with dog in tow in the past. The issue is not the dog being unwelcome - it’s the extremely arrogant and abrasive tone that he threw at us in addition to the scornful look on his face the second we walked in. A touch of customer service would have been very welcome especially when we politely tried to explain we’d been in the past. It’s not that the customer is always right, we just don’t expect to be spoken to disrespectfully. Would recommend for the food if you don’t mind a side order of ignorance and a sub-standard hot drink!

Recently visited again on two occasions with different friends and we all, as usual, enjoyed the experience. Many thanks to Lena and her staff for making us all welcome and once again providing excellent service. We always arrive early and have drinks at the bar prior to dining and the staff, surroundings and atmosphere always make it a great night out. To add to this the food is always excellent with plenty on the menu to choose from and it is always very well presented - please pass our compliments to the Chef. The drinks, as normally, go down very well!To add to all of this we always try to visit when Ian is performing as he always adds to the occasion as he is a first class singer/musician and he helps to make it a special evening. The Charnock Farm is our favourite venue in the area and we look forward to visiting again very soon.

First time there and it wasn't anything to rave about. Long wait to be served even though it wasn't super busy. My sandwich was pleasant, my hubbies platter was ok but very stodgy. It's a beautiful venue but sadly the service and food was very average

We called in on Thursday evening just to have a drink, wind down after work and go back home...well at least that was the plan until Ian Bailey set up with his guitar and started singing from Simon & Garfunkel to Cyndi Lauper to The Beatles to his own stunning songs...the list goes on and on. Fantastic live music in the cosiest setting. The only problem is you will not want to leave, which is bad news for those working on Friday!

Belated anniversary meal with hubbie . Lovely meal , all freshly cooked and well presented . Portion size just right . Reasonable prices .The restaurant has a nice ambient feel and Ian Bailey singer /guitarist was amazing . Beautiful voice ,playing softly in the background without being intrusive .This is only place in the area to have a proper 'grown up' night out . Will definitely return .

A small bar area, our chaps weren't too sure about the juniper flowers served with the gin, a different to lime etc. &quite ice.The restaurant filled up whilst we were there, you are warned that every thing is cooked freshly, so there maybe delays. Food was lovely, between the five of us we covered a range of starters and mains from the menu (including vegetarian). The singer mentioned in earlier reviews was present, a nice change but at times a little too loud.

Nice place to visit on a warm summers day as can spend time sitting by the lake watching the birds. However, cafe service a little slow and on hot day ice cream queue long and tiresome-need more staff on weekends and school holidays. Good for kids with animals , fish to feed and ducks to watch. Can not spend more than about one hour altogether. Venue could do more if offered donkey rides, feeding animals and handling of animals as other venues do in the area. Could offer ice cream factory tour too. Or animal workshops.

Decided to give this place a go last Friday, on arrival around 7.30 pm we asked if they could fit a table of two in. Weirdly seeing as how the restaurant was empty (slightly worried) the lady went off to check and yes they could. Great news! Even better news (which I couldn't see advertised online anywhere) 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £29.99 on a Friday!.The staff were very polite and I could not find fault. My partner had sirloin and I had the ribeye, just felt it was a bit tasteless the actual steak itself and could have done with some greenery on the plate other than just a flat mushroom and a stack of vine tomatoes, but for the price I couldn't complain. All in all a fair meal for a fair price.

Stayed here whilst we went to a wedding close by at the medieval hall nearby. The check in was swift and easy. Bed was very nice and comfortable. The highlight for us was the all you can eat breakfast next morning. You could have cereal or full English breakfast all very nice.
