Charlie’s in North Norfolk

Cute little coffee shop tucked away just off main high street. Delicious cakes, good coffee and very nice hot chocolate! Biscuit jar full of biscuits for dogs - very friendly all round! Toilets upstairs. I safely left my husband and our dog there whilst I browsed the lovely shops😊

Popped in for quick refresh and found had changed hands since last visit. Generous pot of tea and decent coffee, but better were homemade cakes, freshly made - large scones; brownies and ginger cake on display. … was end of day, assume rest had all been eaten and sold. Reasonable prices - for Holt !

Starter and main £12,excellent we thought,we chose vegetable soup (nice)then we both chose roast beef,well not what I was hoping for,I think the only things that had been prepared were the carrots and potatoes ( not proper ones) the yorkshires not homemade,beans,peas( were not fresh)and stuffing not homemade, the beef was wafer thin,not from a joint cooked on premises,gravy was OK, waitress was friendly asked all the right questions,the chef was rooted to the spot in the kitchen,so it was obvious these meals were not being prepared only heated. Poor.

Meaty sausage roll followed huge tasty scone, jam and cream .. delicious .. really enjoyed our snack (!) after beach walk at Weybourne

This used to be one of the best restaurants in holt Lovely food , good menu and professional and friendly staff so was so disappointed to find that it is now run by unprofessional untrained staff Food is awful, waited over an hr to be served and choice limited Tables dirty and sticky plus only one shared toilet in use which was extremely dirty and unpleasant

Be warned Charlie’s is not run by the same people . The service is none existent. We along with several others waited almost an hour for food, told it would be 15 mins upon ordering and paying up front, after 30 mins told it will be another 15 mins then told she was half way through our order . All these were lies. As to our and others disbelief we were told they could not fulfil our order. We then all waited in line for our refunds ! ! I am hoping this will be repaid to my card as even this was unconventional. These new people are untrained and ill prepared to run a business. Such a shame as it was a nice little cafe.

Avoid this place unless you want to wait 40 min for drinks and 1 HOUR for food….. I wouldn’t mind waiting if we had ordered full meals but all we had ordered was beans on toast which took 1 hour!! It wasn’t even busy, it was just terrible organisation and untrained staff.

Such a lovely cafe. Stopped for tea, cake and a shake and they were all delicious. Service was prompt and friendly with dog biscuits bought out to our table for our four legged friend. Very reasonably priced. Do visit if you are in Holt!!!!!

Having visited just before the November lockdown, and having really enjoyed the place, we specifically went back during our June trip to Norfolk. Twice in fact! Great cakes, friendly staff, nice to sit outside somewhere just a bit tucked away from the busy main street. The hot chocolate was excellent, and I’m really fussy as I hate the insipid milky versions so many cafés offer! Keep up the good work!

Ordered two teas and two fruit scones. The scones arrived and mine was burnt so I asked for a replacement. 'is it?' the waitress asked. She took it away and came back with another. Hmm, I thought. Not much better but we settled for it. Both scones were dense and reminded me of leftover mortar. Should have asked for alternative but managed to soften them with plenty of tea. First and last trip to Charlies. Two stars only - saved by the reasonable cup of tea.

Called for lunch whilst visiting Holt. Sat outside in the pleasant courtyard. Menu was varied and we ordered a jacket potato and ham eggs and chips. Both were really good and of excellent quality. Service was also good. Will definitely return.

What a wonderful little cafe this is. Found by chance. Doggy friendly and enjoyed very much by our beagles. Food was delicious. We were served by Oliver who is a charming, hard working and very efficient young man. An asset for any business. Would definitely recommend!!

Superb all day breakfasts on offer and charming staff. Clean and Covid-aware too. Thoroughly enjoyed by family of three. Top notch!

Stopped for a light lunch on Monday 24 August 2020. Good prompt service, good food, and reasonable prices. Nice to sit outside and people watch.

Bad food, rude man waiter and generally indifferent service. Surely it’s not that difficult. £26.95 for three panini’s and a rubbish cappuccino and two cans of coke!

Came here for breakfast during covid with three others. We all had a full English of varying degrees which was served in a timely matter, I ordered a latte which only came in one size, I didn’t realise the size would be thimble, half a dozen sips and it was gone. I asked to use the toilet in the building but was turned down due to covid so the waiter gave me directions to a public one the other side of town. Upon my return I noticed a male coming from the toilet area and heard a female ask the same waiter if she could use the toilet and he said yes!!Food was flavoursome but nothing special.

Wee had scones and drinks here on Saturday lunchtime. The food is fine, nothing special, but not bad. Service was friendly. The seating is mostly outside, it's adequate if a little boring. They could do with flowers to brighten the place up.

We went here last Sunday and Holt was heaving, I was taken aback a bit as it was our 1st real outing since lockdown and so many people, most of whom weren't wearing a mask!We had a walk round in Appleyard and I saw a breakfast being served up in the outdoor courtyard, it looked very nice, so we decided to try Charlies.We found a table in the pretty courtyard and ordered tea & cake, we didn't want a big meal, unfortunately the selection was a little limited, they had been very busy, but they had just baked a chocolate brownie which my wife had with tea and I had a chocolate croissant with coffee, the croissant was very good indeed, unfortunately coffee not so nice, I love my coffee but as I said, very average this one, also no saucer & no spoon was served but I used the spoon my wife got with her tea, also no napkin/tissue was served, but I was given a knife, not really necessary with a croissant, would rather have a napkin!My wife said the brownie and her tea were both good, and she got a napkin/tissue.Maybe the waiter just didn't like me.It was also quite expensive for what we had, nearly £12, but everything in Holt is quite expensive! So this place was ok, but could easily be better, serve spoons.napkins & a saucer for a start, coffee is subjective, I like a strong blend, this wasn't, but not everyone loves strong coffee, maybe just ask?

Stumbled across this place while wandering around Holt. They were super friendly to my 2 year old son and made a cracking coffee and panini. Outside seating was nice and quiet, not sure if due to heat or the car park nearby being shut.

Yummy sandwiches, lovely dandelion and burdock and the most amazing blueberry and lemon cake. Feeling all cat-like now 😀

as a larger person, i still find it very dissappointing that people feel it is okay to be sizist. We have started to overcome homophobia, racism etc to a certain extent. however, in Holt it seems that “fat” people are fair game to ridicule in that they have a sign saying how fat people are more difficult to kidnap so fill up on charlie’s home made cake.we actually had jacket potato. it wasnt cooked in parts. is charlie further trying to make “fat” people slim. I would not recommend this place on principal alone.

On our annual visit to Holt. We found our usual coffee shop closed for refurbishment Asked advice for an alternative and we’re directed here to Charlie’s. Dog are made very welcome both inside and out Dog biscuits also supplied. Food was freshly prepared. This now may be are coffee place on our next visit.

We just popped in for a pot of tea for two with our little one. Very nice , good service, very clean too. Menu looked very nice although very pricey. Would return again

We stopped by here for a coffee whilst we we explored Holt. It was lovely to enjoy a fantastic coffee whilst watching the world go by as we sat in the courtyard.

In the town for the 40s weekend and wanted a drink.The lattes we first class and not too expensive. Really enjoyed them sitting outside in the sun listening to the group singing old songs.

We have frequented many eateries in Holt and this time we went for Charlie’s in Holt, what a good choice, not only is it dog friendly (oh and Poppy got some biscuit treats too). The food and service was brilliant, we would definitely recommend and will be back next time we are in Holt.

We took our granddaughter to Holt. We called in to Charlie’s for a drink and a snack. We all choose cheese scones. We had coffee and our granddaughter had coke. Coffee was tepid. As was the coke. No ice or lemon in the coke. We attempted to eat the cheese scones - but found them to be hard and dense. Completely inedible. We complained and were offered an alternative. We then all chose fruit scones. These were just like the cheese scones. So again we complained and said we would have our money back. This was agreed. We sat at our table waiting for the waitress to return with our money. She did not come back so we went to speak to her at the till. She was very dismissive and begrudgingly returned our money for the scones saying that ‘well I can’t understand it - no one else has complained ‘. We then said that because of this incident we felt justified to have the money for our drinks refunded too. This was refused and we heard a male in the kitchen mutter ‘ that’s not our problem ‘. We felt extremely let down by the awful attitude of all the staff. A memorable experience -but not in a good way. We will never return to Charlie’s. There are so many delightful cafes and restaurants in Holt.

Very nice. Good value lovely staff . Let us come in early out of the rain. All sizes of breakfast. Served on warm plates. Attention to detail was good.

We had taken a walk into Holt from our holiday home and stopped off for coffee on the way back.The coffee was strong but not at all hot, which was very disappointing. However, like most dog friendly places, the dog got a treat of a dog biscuit. This one was very large and he thoroughly enjoyed it.Coffee: Latte x3Coffee disappointing.

We visited on the afternoon of the Holt Food Festival. The cafe had been extremely busy due to the number of visitors to the town. The service we received was excellent and the jug of pimms was just what the doctor ordered on a hot sunny day. We also had an excellent pot of tea.

Just had lunch at Charlies. Very friendly staff and extremely clean. The food was great (and hot - not luke warm like some cafes!)Lovely quiet place to stop and take a break whether it be for lunch or just a cuppa and cake!Would cone back again.

Lovely cafe situated in Appleyard . Dog friendly - the young chap gave us a teeny plate of dog biscuits which Marnie woofed down- a nice touch.Best carrot cake I have ever tasted and massive home made scones - top class so hubby remarked.Very friendly staff and great service Well done

We found this lovely eating place whilst having a wander around Holt. It was tucked away and could easily be missed , but when visiting Holt again we will return. Everything was more than good about it , a lovely location , excellent service and excellent food.

Came here for lunch, 6 adults, a baby and a dog. Service was quick and staff very friendly. Food was really tasty and very well priced. They gave the dog a free biscuit and free cake for the dads for Fathers Day! Would definitely recommend this place if you stop in Holt and fancy a quick and tasty lunch.

Whilst visiting the lovely town of Holt we called in Charlies for a light lunch. Wonderful welcome from the lady in the cafe, so charming.The sandwicheswere well prepared and a delight to eat. They are well presented too and young chap who served them a delight.Do visit this place if you happen to be in Holt

I went to Charlie’s with my partner and 2 kids. Absolutely excellent. I had the Charlie, which is a full English in a bap for £6! My wife had the salmon and cream cheese sandwich which was made with fresh local bread and the kids had sausage chips and beans. The garden is an perfect sun trap and the staff are all delightful! Would seriously recommend, will definitely be going again!!

Fantastic cakes, afternoon tea and amazing breakfasts , lovely atmosphere and amazing staff . A must visit for any one living in or visiting The Holt area .

Having driven 200 miles on business early in the morning, when arriving in Holt I was in need of some food, rest and relaxation.Having parked my car I happened upon a pretty courtyard very close to the centre and in the corner was a cafe called Charlie's. It looked very clean and inviting.Outside were a number of tables and as it was a sunny day I decided to sit outside, have a drink and something to eat.Instantly I received a warm welcome from a young man who I now know is Tom the proprietor. It was Service with a smile and I chose a drink and a full English Breakfast.Without doubt it was the best breakfast I'd ever had (honestly). It was huge and everything was cooked to perfection. What struck me was there were a number of locals using the cafe and there was definitely a friendly feel about the place.Tom and all is staff were very attentive and should I ever visit Holt again I'll make a beeline to Charlie's for some great food and a warm welcome.Rob from Sheffield

Charlie's is a beautiful establishment. I had a delicious lunch and just could not leave before trying some desert. I would definitely advise people to try their cakes and pastries. Everyone there was also very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant!!

I have been to Charlie's a few times now and I highly recommend. The food is amazing (especially the chicken mayo jacket potato), it's all reasonably priced and affordable. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. This cafe is great for anyone to visit, whether that be for some breakfast/lunch or just some coffee and cake. The cafe is also dog friendly which is also a bonus. I guarantee if you visit this cafe you wont be disappointed.

We had lunch here with our little dog. They were very welcoming. A good lunch and our dog even got some treats. Would definitely visit again.

Friendly staff and excellent service. I chose the all day breakfast which was both filling and tasty, my daughter had the roasted vegetable wrap which was (in her words) devine, and all at a great price too. We also had the pleasure and company of the little boss man (owners 2year old son) who we invited to join us, he was very professional doing a quality check on the delicious hot chocolate, lol. Will definitely be back soon.

When I visited this establishment early in the summer, they had only just started out. Service was excellent. The room was immaculately clean. The wasn't a large choice of food but I plumped for the Scampi and Chips. Good sized portions and the neal was good value. The free slice of cake was welcome too. It is early days but a good start. Hopefully they will increase the choice of food. Look forward to coming back an d seeing how much has improved.

Wonderful brunch and coffee! Very welcoming on a wet day to me and my spaniel puppy. Will definitely return.

I would hugely recommend Charlie’s cafe to the locals of holt and anyone visiting! I went with a friend and got a jacket potato with Chicken mayo.... it was so delicious I had to go a second time.. and it definitely won’t be the last!! Everything about the cafe is amazing from the menu to the service!! The cafe is great for couple, friends and families!! You should definitely go, I can promise you won’t be disappointed! X
