Cellar Bistro in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Way overpriced for 2 steaks £30 each with garlic butter. £6:50 for a small bottle of cider! Won’t be returning

So glad we found this restaurant for lunch today. We had mussels and the Cornish scallops to start followed by sea bream and the red gurnard, all were fantastic as was the wine. It is very easy to miss the entrance, but really glad we found it. Highly recommend and will definitely be back if we return to St Ives in the future.

Excellent food, especially the mixed grill, great burgers, good for kids. Drinks were excellent, as was the range of drinks Great ambience and service and great location and views. Highly recommended and would definitely return.

Went as a treat for my grandaughters birthday,when we arrived at our table a birthday card was waiting for her,after the meal,dessert came with a candle followed by a birthday song,absolutely fantastic,wonderful staff,food was great too...10/10 ,it is on fore street so no parking,we parked at railway station and walked,not too far,steps to car park a tad steep otherwise pleasant walk there and back

I think the reviews I read must be for a previous establishment as this was not what was expected. It felt dated, like a restaurant you may find on an 80s cruise ship. The service wasnt really there. We were handed 4 wine menus (which only have alcohol in them) and we were a table of 2 adults and 2 young children. The starters were good but steaks were just a bit underwhelming and definitely frozen chips, not triple cooked as advertised. Food was overpriced for what was mostly microwaved food.

Service was very poor, it was a bank holiday and they were clearly understaffed and couldn’t cope with the volume of orders. The staff were stressed and it was not a relaxed meal at all. Food was only just warm but went cold quickly as the plates were cold.

Can’t fault the food but service was shocking. We came here, 4 adults, 4 kids, after being seated and given menus it was a very long time to order drinks. I actually collected our drinks ourselves from the bar counter having seen them sit there for 10mins untouched. A couple at next table said they had been there 1.5hrs and just got their food. It was 45minutes before we got to ‘order’ food. A couple of tables left before ordering as they had sat there without any service at all. When we did get food about 2hrs in, there was a dish missing, after raising this we had to wait longer and most of us had finished before the missing food was delivered. Any family will understand that when with kids, 2hrs+ waiting from sit down doesn’t go down well. The whole experience was almost 3hrs, and we just didn’t want to be there any longer by this time. There appeared to be 3 staff, but only 1 young waitress appeared to be doing everything.

Excellent restaurant with tasty steak and great service. We had the rib eye and the rump, both tasty and well cooked. The cheesecake was excellent too. Note the stairs down to the restaurant that may not suit less abled and dogs not allowed after 5pm.

The food here was nothing short of incredible. I had the ribeye steak, medium rare and it was so succulent and tender. One of the best I’ve had for sure. However, the presentation wasn’t great and there wasn’t much flair to the layout of the food in any way. The music that was playing didn’t really fit the vibe of the restaurant and wasn’t the original artists, it was a rubbish remake of the songs. Overall I had a great night, just some things to be improved upon. Please also note there is no mobile signal or wifi in the restaurant.

Scallops were nice but very small and squid starter was very average. Rump steak was over cooked and of below average quality despite being aged, and how was it possible to run out of peppercorn sauce! The reviews seen did not align with either service or food quality!! Oh and the napkins were the size of a side plate.

Best fish we've ever had! It was last summer and we still think about it. Highly recommend.

Four of us went to Cellar Bistro at the end of our holiday to St Ives, and we were not disappointed. The service was impeccable, always attentive but never pushy. The food was outstanding, my wife and I had goats cheese to start and hake as a main course. Both courses were magnificent, the goats cheese was full of flavour without being overpowering and the hake delicate and tasty. We will be coming in on our next visit to St Ives. Well done Cellar Bistro, if I could have given more than 5☆, I would have done.

We went here on recommendation from friends and we were not disappointed! The food was great. We both had fish. Very well cooked and well presented. Service was excellent. When we asked about the menu, the lady knew what she was talking about that made it such a pleasurable experience. Well done you guys. We will recommend you to others

We had dined in this restaurant many times over the years in its different guises and owners over the years. We tried it under it's current ownership and found it to be nothing short of excellent. The staff were friendly and informed about the food and wines, the food was superb along with the atmosphere. We were so pleased we have booked to go back in a few days. My compliments to the owners.

We were in St Ives for five nights and we visited this restaurant twice. Had it been open additional nights we would have returned for another meal. Two menu items of particular note are the goat cheese and beetroot appetizer which was a perfect start to our meal. For the main course we both had the parmesan crusted hake. It was so spectacular that we had this main course both times we were at the restaurant. Service was wonderful and extremely friendly. I’d give the restaurant top marks for both service and food quality. The chef is a professional. Our only complaint is that the restaurant is only open from Wednesday to Sunday. That’s not enough time to allow people to enjoy this place.

So glad I had booked in advance as we found throughout our stay in St Ives that unless you had booked a table you probably weren't going to find anywhere to dine in very easily! The service, the ambience and most importantly, the food, was divine! My partner and I shared the 'chicken supreme', the chicken was cooked beautifully and the sauce and potatoes were bursting with flavour. Also the sticky toffee pudding is to die for! If it wasn't so far away, I'd visit all the time!

Absolutely fantastic food and service! I had hake and my mum had the chicken. I’ve dined in some 5* restaurants around the world but never tasted anything like this. We had messed up our booking and accidentally selected the wrong date on the online booking system, although they were fully booked for the whole evening they had no hesitation in fitting us in! We have booked to go again before we go home

We had a wonderful family meal at the Cellar Bistro. Great atmosphere and brilliant service. All the food was of high quality and the wine was amazing. The photos show the pear and cheese starter which was a taste sensation and the hake is incredible too. My partner enjoyed the steak which was cooked to perfection. Quality produce which is well presented and well priced. The only feedback I would suggest is for the children’s menu to have a side dish with the meal as my son ordered chicken strips and chips but there was no veg offered but that is just a suggestion as again the food and service was brilliant. Would highly recommend the Cellar Bistro.

The Cellar Bistro is a great restaurant serving great food. We had the pan fried sea bass fillets. They were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent and the whole experience was first class.

A very enjoyable dining experience. I was seated next to the window looking out onto the harbour; for me it was the best seat in the house. The food was delicious, starter was bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip and my main was butternut squash tagine with lime infused cous cous. Drink - a delicious Cornish 75. Excellent service. Thank you for a lovely vegan meal.

This place was amazing, lovely setting and exceptional fish. Would really recommend this place, the only thing we found was that we felt a bit rushed to be in and out within an hour, when we had ordered a bottle of wine, towards the end of the meal we felt we had to drink it quickly to free up the table. Staff were so friendly and we loved it!

Fantastic quality food , I had The Hake dish which was unbelievable! This was undoubtedly the best Hake dish I have ever had . Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful checking on us throughout the meal . The ambience of the restaurant was incredible. A must if anyone visiting St Ives Cornwall.

We visit Cellar Bistro as often as we can. Didn’t really want to write this as would like to keep it as our secret place but Cellar Bistro & the staff deserve the acknowledgment. My husband & I ate there on Friday night. I had the goats cheese & husband had mackerel pate for starters,both were perfect and just big enough so as not to fill you up before the main meal. We both had the roast chicken supreme special with homemade chips, salad & allioli, wow, what a meal, the chicken was so tender & white yum yum. I finished with lemon posset & husband had a coffee, both came with homemade biscuits. All this was with a lovely bottle of Spanish Sauvignon and served by professional friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Thank you Cellar Bistro & your wonderful staff for a lovely evening out, you all throughly deserve your top 3 spot on trip advisor, I’m sure it won’t be long before you hit No 1. This is the richest, most pleasant restaurant I’ve been to. I ordered the steak. The steak is to DIE FOR!! It has such a rich flavor and I bet I can eat 3 steaks in one sitting. Lots of options for deserts, and my friend really liked the sticky toffee pudding. We really DEVOURED everything we ordered. Get a nice cup of tea. It may seem small at first but it’s actually a lot bigger than you would expect. It’s got a bar as well, if you want some drinks! They even give you little easy-to-bite mints at the end. The waitresses are extremely kind and helpful and they will provide extra information for your benefits. Also this place has the most amazing fries/chips!!! We asked them how they get it to that sort of texture and level and they happily told us. We will try it. Definitely will come here again for vacation!!!

Very tasty food in friendly and small, but not too small, setting. Entrance is downstairs from street but as this is on a hill the view from the window in the restaurant is above ground on the other side.

I found the Cellar Bistro in Tripadvisor and booked a table before we went to St Ives. The good was very good and the service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. We also enjoyed after dinner drinks in the lounge area.

Were it not for the sound of music coming up from the stairs it would be quite easy to miss the entrance to St Ives Cellar Bistro - which would be a shame. Chandeliers in the hallway leading to the stairs down into the restaraunt create an air of opulence and sophistication that's enforced when greeted at the entrance to the large dining room. Although below street level natural light is provided by a window at one end of the long room as the old venue is built on a steep incline overlooking the harbour. The polished boarded floor is furnished with polished wooden tables spaced to create a calm and uncluttered feel to the dining area. We chose the grilled goats cheese to start, the herb encrusted hake for our main and the chocolate brownie for desert. We have dined at over a dozen restaraunts in St Ives and the food in the Cellar Bistro stands head and shoulders above the rest. The herb encrusted hake was amazing, perfectly seasoned and exploding with flavour. Every dish was beautifully presented. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel was breathtakingly fabulous! All the staff worked tirelessly as a team and still made time to engage in conversation at the tables when appropriate. Our whole evening was a superb, sophisticated yet friendly and down to earth experience and a culinary delight of the highest order. Simply fabulous!

From the moment you are greeted at the the bottom of the stairs, you know you are in a restaurant where service is important….and the food is just outstanding…just wish we were going back tomorrow night…but they are fully booked…which tells you everything….just outstanding

We were lucky to get a table as their website had no bookings available so worth emailing/calling to ask. Had the set menu and overall the food was amazing, I can recommend the Hake and Roast Chicken. The only let down was where we were sat, in the corner next to the window, as there seemed to be a load of flies attracted to the window. Sea view though! Dessert I would probably give a miss next time as the Elderflower mascarpone pot was just overly sweet.

We're local to St Ives and whenever we have friends visit this is a must! We have dined here twice since they re opened after their Winter break and both times the food, service and general atmosphere have been fantastic. We will be back!!

Possibly one of the best meals I've had! The garlic ciabatta was unbelievable, I hate ciabatta but it was dripping in garlic butter as was the sweet corn cob starter. Now I don't have a large appetite and struggle to eat big meals but I devoured this, the hake with Parmesan crumb and sticky toffee pudding! Everything was so flavourful but incredibly light and didn't leave having that awful heavy feeling. I enjoyed it immensely and can't wait to come again!

The food and the atmosphere were both amazing they have a wide variety of food even a celiac and a vegetarian were able to eat here and so could many others no matter the allergy as the menu clearly marks all possible issues and the staff are more than happy to find out anything unknown
