Cattle Grid in Windsor and Maidenhead

My siblings & I had Easter Dinner at this restaurant. Delicious food & amazing staff. I ordered buffalo chicken wings for starter, portion was good & it was delicious, for mains I had fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. I will visit this restaurant again.

Mother’s Day Lunch was delicious. Free glass of Prosecco was a nice touch. First time visiting and not disappointed. I had rib eye and chips. Good size portion and perfectly cooked. Chips were amazing, hot and crispy. Fellow diners had the burgers and all enjoyed. Lots of different sauces tried. Only thing that let it down was the very commercial coleslaw that we ordered as a side. Was expecting a nice house made slaw, this could have come from Tesco! A home made version would have scored a perfect 5.

Was looking for a really nice steak for dinner and found it here ! Was a loud (but not overbearing) busy restaurant mainly groups and couples, menu was good, picked ribeye and hubby and sirloin (mine was nicer ! lol) both served with chips and had onion strings and salad with them. Would go again if i visiting Windsor and would recommend for a night out. Thank you

Wonderful food and hospitality. The gentleman who co-owns/runs this restaurant was so welcoming and he couldn't do enough for us. My daughter came over unwell during our visit and without making too much of a fuss he handled the situation really well and seemed genuinely concerned. The food was also fantastic. We ordered 3 Jacob's Ladder ribs, 2 standard ribs and one burger. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the Jacob's ladder ribs in particular were exceptional. We couldn't decide which sauce to choose for the ribs so the co-owner gave us a little dish of each to try. I will agree with a previous review and say that the mild sauce is far from mild so we opted for the same BBQ sauce that they put on the Jacob's ladder ribs which was delicious. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and food and we will certainly be coming back.

Visited for my daughter’s 21st birthday meal and can only say food, cocktails and service was first rate. Manager went from table to table ensuring diner’s were happy and on reaching ourselves had a free cocktail delivered for the birthday girl, a nice touch we felt. Will definitely return.

Went to this restaurant with Friends who I had not seen for a while and it was important to meet during the festive season. Ordered starters and a bottle of wine. Service was terrible from the word go. The waitress was rude and we waited 55 mins for mains to arrive, whilst others who arrived after us got their food before us. The restaurant was more than half empty. When we asked to speak to the manager to our horror he took away our mains just as they were being put on the table and he replied that you don’t have to eat here. We politely left. We were surprised that the manager did not acknowledge our comments and instead chose to be arrogant. We were also accused of opening a bottle of wine we didn’t order. The first bottle of wine was left on the table without being served correctly. Total lack of etiquette!! We had to open and pour it ourselves. The people running this catastrophe need to understand they are in the hospitality business! No napkins and correct cutlery were supplied and had to be requested. Overall a ruined night out during the festive season. We ended up having to eat at another restaurant in Windsor.

Excellent family meal out to celebrate a birthday . Staff gave a warm welcome and provided outstanding service throughout our visit . Food was exceptional, especially the ribs !!!! Would highly recommend this fabulous resturant .

Hmmm, this place is far from special. The food was very greasy and the service was poor. The waitress only got 4 of 6 drinks orders correct, then served somewhat overpriced cokes which were approx 40% ice. Food took quite a while to arrive, the background music was too loud to have easy conversation at the table and food itself was mediocre at best. Wont be returning.....

Reasonable amount of seating with parking in the local car parks. Easy access for wheel chairs and buggies. Good size toilets. Good selection of beef and chicken options on the menu with salad also. Little bit more expensive than your normal restaurant as all mains do not include sides which are charge in addition. Good selection of side options. Good service but it was mid afternoon. Worth a try but not a place I would frequent based on cost. Please like if this helped.

Overall good experience. We both had the ribs - the meat itself was absolutely gorgeous, cooked to perfection. The only let down was the amount of sauce drizzled on them. After a while it was just sickly and I couldn’t force myself to finish. Also, my partner can’t handle spice so opted for what was listed as mild on the menu - he still struggled with the spice level and when he asked the waitress if he had received mild she said yes but she thought even the mild was spicy so it wasn’t just him. Hold back on the sauce, make the mild actually mild and this would be a rave review

Best steak I have had in Windsor but the service is so poor. Paced badly and then ignored. 12% service charge is added to the bill, paid well for what you do.

Excellent service and good. As i have a severe intolerance to lactose, egg and soya. The staff understood and made sure my meal was cooked on its own, therefore no cross contamination. Fully recommend this restaurant

Myself and my family had a very unusually bad experience at this restaurant on the weekend. We chose to attend here in the afternoon with our friends and our son. It took a long time for the waitress to take out drinks and food order. After waiting for a long time for food to arrive our toddler became restless and upset. He was crying. As myself and his aunt tried to calm him down the manager of the restaurant hung over my husband and abruptly said “Is he alright?” Referring to my crying son. My husband said yes, he is fine. The manager then continued to say that “we have customers here, can you stand outside with him”. We are utterly disgusted and appalled at this service. The manager clearly has no experience with children with autism or adhd as he would not have been so rude to us. We have been coming to this family style restaurant for over ten years and we will never be coming back again. We are in shock and upset about this experience and feel the manager and staff need to be taught about how to deal with different customers especially in a family style restaurant. It may be a different story had we had been in a Michelin adult style restaurant.

The other half and I had our first date here a few years back and every return visit the food and service has been spot on. I don’t like to go out for steaks as you usually get a bad cut or it’s cooked wrong. No issues at Cattlegrid. Portion sizes great, plenty of side option, maybe a little bit pricey but like anything in life you get what you pay for. The manager/owner is usually present and really looks out for you to ensure everything is good. We live local and eat out once or twice a week and I think Cattlegrid is probably the best place to eat. If this place ever closed down I would genuinely be disappointed.

Well, having heard about the restaurant, sometimes we do wonder if what we are told is accurate and having now dined there and met the amazing team, all was far better than hoped. The moment we arrived the reception was great, courteous and ready for our table. The food was THE best we have had, clean, fresh, so tasteful and also so much of it. Congratulations to one and all from the team serving, to the host who greeted us and the Manager and not forgetting the team cooking for us all, absolute delight and cannot wait to come back in December and celebrate our lads birthday with more family!! 10/10 and Thank you all. Quite disappointed after all the hype I was told about this place and read some good reviews did not live up the our expectations service was poor and the ribs were pretty standard with no veg/coleslaw just ribs and tiny portion of chips for £24 a rack our food was thrown on the table staff didn’t even speak and were all rushing around looking miserable we wanted condiments but getting staff’s attention wasn’t easy and the 12% tip added for service when we had such poor service was unreasonable Maybe we visited at the wrong time I’m not sure but unfortunately I won’t be returning

We placed an order in lockdown for collection. Unfortunately the order was overcharged and inedible. When I called the following day to mention this, the lady (I believe she's the owner's wife) was not having any of my complaint, and she started being extremely annoyed and rude in response to my comments.She eventually started yelling and shouting at me on the phone when she was unable to give her customers the benefit of the doubt and treat them with common courtesy.This was a very disappointing experience from a company who should be providing excellent service to members of the public. My husband has been a long time customer of Cattle Grid #Cattlegrid in Windsor but this was an extremely unfair way to repay all his custom.I'm not sure what the lady was hoping to achieve in yelling at her customers over the phone - or perhaps she thought that it didn't matter, as we were just collecting the food during a lockdown?Either way, this restaurant will not be receiving our finances or support ever again and I hope you think twice about giving them your patronage. The owner's wife will probably take your money, provide completely sub par food - and then literally scream at you on the phone when you ring to complain.Don't do it!!!

Great experience at Cattle Grid celebrating a family birthday. We were running late due to traffic problems but the staff worked around us to ensure we could still keep our booking. We had a large group so keeping space open for us would have been a challenge for them with all the other bookings they must have had.The food was lovely and all the food arrived at the table in an accurate and timely manner. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time. We ate early at 5pm and it was not full. The Manager very respectfully apologised before we were even sat down that there was a noisy child in the restaurant, thankfully he sat us at the opposite end! My husband had 10oz Ribeye steak medium rare which he said was great and cooked perfectly with chips, I had half rack of ribs, delicious, as was the coleslaw and sweet potato chips. We both had a pint of Cider, good value £54 total including service charge. Good efficient and friendly service, nice location in the shopping arcade of the wonderful Windsor station just off the High Street. We would recommend.

We are visiting from Ireland and staying on a boat. We visited Windsor a few years ago and came to this Restaurant and decided to return on this visit. It’s still as good as ever. We were a party of seven with 3 boys. The Boys had every thing, Ribs chicken wings and steak, nothing left on their plates. The Adults had the BBQ Ribs and baked Potato’s and sides. Great meal was had by all and the staff were so nice.. Full Marks. We will be back.

Visited on a Friday night and it was busy as you would expect. It's so small, none of us could hear ourselves think, let alone what the waitress was saying to us. The menu isn't vast, and the drinks menu is lacking in choice. The buffalo wings and garlic bread were lovely, the rib eye steak was just ok. I like it medium/well, but this was well well done. Not up to the same standards as other steak houses. No conversation from any staff, the owners seemed like the were just interested in mingling with the guests who looked like they should be eating n Harrods. It was fine, but wouldn't rush back.

I'd booked a table for my husbands birthday. The first solo date night we've had for around a year due to covid and having a baby. The service was lacking, noone was cheery and happy, noone looked like they wanted to be there. We ordered our food and drinks, no problem. My steak arrived and I'd ordered medium rare and it came out very rare and dare I say blue and also extremely fatty. Noone came to check our table, so I couldn't say. But the time someone came to take our plates away and I mentioned the steak I felt sick. Only a small discount was applied, considering I didnt eat very much of my steak the near 50%refund of my steak was ridiculous. Very pricey and not worth it at all! Wasted evening.

We had booked this restaurant with high hopes after planning a special night out - I’m 30 weeks pregnant and we booked a night away in a hotel with some lovely food before our baby arrives. The menu looked great and we were happy to arrive to somewhere busy and thriving - how wrong we were!We arrived at 6.55 for our 7pm table booking. We were sat at our table for 20 minutes and no one had even taken a drinks order - my husband had to go and ask a staff member to take our order as everyone around us had been served apart from us. This alone is forgivable in a busy restaurant, but the whole experience continued to go downhill from here.We got our drinks and waited, and waited, and waited - no food. As much as the people around our table were getting their food, they were complaining to the team members about the wait for their food too - clearly something was backed up in the kitchen and no one had been told. However, we had been given absolutely nothing. We asked someone who looked like a manager to see where our food was but didn’t hear from her again.We walked out of the restaurant at 8.05 - 1hr 10mins inside the restaurant with only a Diet Coke, no food had graced our table at all. We needed to leave to go to another bar we had booked and ended up having to go and sit in McDonalds to wolf down some nuggets because the service was so poor! We told one of the people who we thought were managers that we were leaving because we’d been waiting over an hour, and there was no conversation, no apology, literally nothing. When we left we looked over to the hot plate and there was nothing that resembled our food there either, so it wasn’t even close to being ready 1hr 10mins down the line. How it takes 1hr 10 minutes to put garlic bread on the table is beyond me!After this our whole night was ruined - we missed our reservation for the other place because we needed to eat (me being 30 weeks pregnant means I need to have something in my system to stop me feeling sick!) and our special night we had planned for our ‘babymoon’ was ruined, all because of Cattle Grid’s poor organisation and communication. I am absolutely furious about the situation, partly because there was no apology at any point for the wait or for the terrible service. They were so flustered by how busy they were it was like they couldn’t handle it. If I could give zero stars instead of one star I absolutely would.I don’t like to say things like this given how hard the pandemic has hit businesses over the last 18 months but AVOID this restaurant if you want your time respected and you’d like to actually eat some food on a Saturday night!

When you go to a restaurant now we are after COVID I don’t expect to stand out side a empty restaurant and be told to order my table on line let’s get things straight you need all the business you can get so get your front of house right everyone else in Windsor is booming bad service bad staff

Once again this place never fails to hit the mark with the best ribs I have ever experienced. Worth ever penny even if a bit on the high side. As soon as you tuck into the full rack of ribs it’s clear why they can price that high and why they are always packed with happy guests. No messing about. Hot wings to start. Full rack for main covered in magical sauce. Great portion sizes and always ready with a doggie bag for the next days lunch. Staff extremely helpful and polite and couldn’t do anything more for you. Great choice for couples , friend , family or business. Love it !!!

Fabulous food and drink with exceptional service!We visited for dinner with family during our stay in Windsor and were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Friendly, kind and attentive staff make for a warm atmosphere and the restaurant is immaculately clean and well laid out with space to relax as a family. The menu is great with lots of options for meat-lovers and smaller, but equally well-prepared, portions for children. As a veggie I opted for the vegan burger (also delicious!) so there is something for everyone. From the outside the Cattle Grid looks great but what a let down.To begin we had booked an outside table but as we arrived we were told one wasn’t available when we mentioned we had booked a table we were told ….so have others … helpful!We were then seated inside and we ordered drinks and food. There was quite a delay for the starters to arrive but when they did they were lovely. Then the main courses arrived. I had ordered a burger without cheese but it came with cheese and so I had to send it back, my husband ordered a steak that looked good but it was all fat. At no point did anyone ask if everything was ok and we were never offered the chance to order another drink. The toilets are basically a back cupboard.The restaurant looks the part but I would avoid it. Most of the waitresses were just there to strut around and no one cared.

We had a 18:30 dinner. It was quite busy. Sat outside. Its a bit noisy as motorbikes and showoff cars with roofs down often screamed up the enclosure for cause and effect We had a mushroom and brie burger and a chicken with brie burger. Both were topped him with a white bun ... A little difficult to eat with utensils... The side order of fries were delicious.The waitress was unaware of the type of sparkling water she served!Would go back

We were having an overnight stay in Windsor and had wandered around in the evening for a while, undecided on what we fancied, we settled on Cattle Grid with the lure of ribs and were seated without any trouble. Having said that, my Husband ordered the fillet steak and I ordered the beef short rib - both were delicious! The wine was good and we decided on a dessert, which we rarely have but what a treat. The creme brulee was divine and my Husband had a good portion of chocolate brownie and a huge ball of ice cream, which he also said was delicious. All in all, it was a great meal and our servers were friendly, helpful and chatty.

Having not been out much over the last year or so, like so many of us. We were in the Cattle Grid this evening and I must say I cannot recommend going there enough. We had the ribs and they were delicious. We were served by Faye,Sebastian and Zamira. It was so refreshing to be served by such friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Even getting our little dog some water. We will definitely be returning. Hang on to those staff Cattle Grid, good staff are few and far between and all three are gems. Thank you for a great experience

Visited as a family on a two day trip to Legoland.Have to say the food was amazing and so was the service, would highly recommend, we are here on a Thursday night and everything is honestly perfect cannot fault one thing.The wings and the nachos for starters were amazing and all of our steaks including our two year who eats steak loved every mouthful

Went here yesterday (my Fathers day treat from my son)Amazingly efficient friendly staff and the food was brilliant, I had the ribs (LARGE) and by god they were large with fries and coleslaw .. never ever had ribs like them the BBQ sauce was out of this world.All round great experience. Just wish there were more of these restaurants around. 10/10

Avoid this place at any cost, I really don’t wish anything bad upon anyone, but hopefully this place will close down soon anyway and be replaced by something decent that will make a difference.The staff here are very arrogant and rude, they don’t give a damn about customers, they just stand there and talk amongst themselves; and really do not like it when you ask them something!My wife went to the entrance with my two 3 year old kids to check in our booking (sat 12/06/21 at 17.00), there were 3 female staff stood at the meet and greet area, but all 3 wanted to finish off the conversation they were having, before acknowledging my wife, which took around 3 mins at the time when my wife asked if they were actually going to serve her or not!The place is not child friendly at all, nor do the staff have any regard or care for children, although they claim they do, the experience was absolutely shocking.The food was not great at all, for starters the buffalo wings were definitely nice, but garlic bread I’ve had better at Asda; and the ribs must’ve had a large bottle of salt on them, completely sickly!We went on a family day out and was looking forward to eating here, so we didn’t want to ruin the day, we were about to order mains, when one of the waitresses decided to spill lemonade over me and my wife! I didn’t hear an apology but instead saw the waitress with a smile on her face saying “don’t worry we’ll give you a free desert”! I then chose not to order anything further from there.My kids were hungry so my wife ordered a steak asking for it to be cooked medium rare, but when it arrived it was nothing more than a small chunk of beef (not from the kids menu either) cooked rare with blood pouring out when cut, plus the small handful of chips were disgusting and oily.The portion sizes were appalling.After this we decided to leave, we were charged full price as if everything was normal. I didn’t wish to start a scene in front of my kids and relative, so just left it at this and made the payment then left.The staff have no people skills whatsoever, they are in the wrong line of work; and if this place wants to survive in Windsor, they need better staff in.Also for what this place charges, they should at least make decent food and have good staff, which they don’t!The management really need to get out of their offices and see what really goes on in this place, if they wish for this place to remain there, which I doubt it will the way things are.

We live in the North West of England and never miss an opportunity to come and visit The Cattle Grid when we are anywhere near Windsor. Always great service, Malik, his wife and staff are always friendly and attentive. We’ve never had anything but excellent food on every occasion, having visited several times over the years. We’ve never had better ribs anywhere on our travels and a visit here is a must if you are in the area. Great location, just inside the railway station and the new outdoor bar area is a great addition.We can’t wait for our next visit. See you next time.

We had a take away food from this place today. We ordered two sets of ribs, chips and a Greek salad. My partner’s ribs were tasty and falling of the bone, at least that what he said. Unfortunately my ribs were quite opposite. My ribs were chewy and I had to use steak knife to get into them. The worst ribs I have ever had in my life. Also we decided to leave the chips behind as they were soggy and tasted like if they we fried in an oil frying oil. My partner wanted to ring the restaurant and ask for the replacement/ refund but I asked him not to do that as I was already in a bad mood after this inedible meal
