Only open when there are sufficient staff on duty, it is a small cafe (which can get overcrowded) but there's plenty of seating outside with good views of Bodiam Castle. The staff are friendly and helpful and the coffee was up to the usual good National Trust standard.

Lovely cafe with lots of seating outside. However during lunchtime extremely overcrowded. The queue to the till was so long people had to wait outside. I can recommend trying carrot and orange soup. Very delicious!

Situated adjacent to "The Story of Bodiam" display and conservation suite (closed on the day we where there due to Covid restrictions), the Castle View Cafe is ideally situated for a drink or snack after you have walked up from the car park and before you go into the castle itself (or, after you have walked round the castle, before you go back to the car park). It's Covid safe. There's hand sanitiser available as you enter the building, the floor is marked for social distancing, there is a one way system in operation and masks must be worn. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the snacks, though limited in range, are adequate. It is dog friendly and, outside, there are socially distanced seats with lovely views of the castle.

This restaurant was empty apart from us on a Saturday evening, could be the 70s decor thats putting off a lot of customers.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.
