I like their turkey roast dinner, turkey, mash, peas, carrots, cabbage, stuffing ball and gravy on a large oval plate. Hot drink and change from £10. They have a good variety menu to suit everone, from breakfasts, fish and chips, jacket potatoes, sandwiches plus many more. They let you change any item from dfferent dishes. Staff very friendly nd very helpful.

Ask for 2 bacon and cheese toasties and a pot of tea Toasties came with a little side salad and a couple of crisps ( bacon undercooked and not tasty at all ) Small pot of tea enough to fill a mug but was given to small cups (so should have been tea for one ) Then Came the shock went to pay and yes should have looked at the price but it’s a high street cafe so we are partly to blame . £15.80 for two sandwiches and a cup of tea will not be going back there again

Order two breakfasts came way too fast. Deep fried and microwaved didn't taste. Very nice. Was given a pot of tea when it wasn't ordered. No mention of it coming with the breakfast but apparently it does. Wasn't given a check back to make sure everything was ok on top of that the tea was horrible.

Shopping in Burton and hungry then stop here for food. A lovely atmosphere and friendly staff make you feel welcome just walking in. The food is well cooked and taste great and you have the right amount to make you feel satisfied. Love coming here as you know you are going to get a good meal.

The potatoes were dry and under cooked. Even my 10 month old grandson turned his nose up at it. It's the 2nd visit in a year and both times have been very disappointing.

Stopped for lunch here today and it was a great first time visit. The lady made sure my breakfast was perfect for me before she left me to enjoy it. The surrounds were very pleasent and made you feel at ease while enjoying my lunch. I will stop here again and saver some more of this lovely little cafe.

This is a lovely town centre cafe come restaurant. We had Lasagne and cottage pie respectively. both home made by the lovely lady in the kitchen. They offer extremely good value food, beautifully cooked.

Our second visit - but with different guests. Service prompt, efficient - and very friendly. One pot of Tea rather weak - but much better second pot when we asked for it "very strong." The 2 Giant Yorkshire Puddings containing full Turkey Dinner : excellent - & the Steak Pie had real steak in it, plus good veg. The Apple Pie & cream also brilliant. Maybe everyone has to rethink the Lasagna- as the person awarded this got rather a stodgy dish that needed livening up, perhaps a different, more sizzling, and individually-potted Recipe. I would still recommend Cassandra's for anybody landing in the centre of Burton wondering where to go next.

Not the most capacious of tables - but when the 4 of us squeezed in, we were not disappointed. We could actually SEE the Chef de Haut Cuisine at her labours! Service was reasonably fast. I was just a little nervous our food, once placed on the serving hatch, might go cold because an outpatient wandered in for shop service [ Cassandras is also a Bakery ] - but out four dishes were hot and properly cooked... good helpings too. Moreover, Soup looked good - & there were lots of fantastic out-sales' fruit pies & scones to take away for later in the afternoon. Please give this Establishment a Chance! It may be unassuming, and not part of a Chain, but it Owner has her finger on the button - & there is room for Cheap & Cheerful in a Town that can appear severe.

We passed this café on a trip to Burton and feeling hungry and seeing the board outside saying home made pies went in. We ordered steak pie, chips and peas with gravy and a pot of tea. Delicious pie, great value meal and lovely staff seems like a family run business. We normally head for a pub for lunch not a café but can highly recommend this place. The home made cakes for sale also looked scrummy.

Sólo había huevos revueltos sobre una tostada y un café. £5 en total para tostadas empapadas y difícil ponerla en huevo (como yo la vi hacer a través de la trampilla entre lavar los platos sucios), el café era agradable sin embargo.

having visited this café before and have quite good breakfasts , we went in there today and ordered omelette and salad, I can only describe this as an odd shaped giant fried egg for two it was cooked in one and split, the eggs were not beaten therefore part was white part yellow it was hard and dry not like an omelette should be fluffy , having always sat at the back we sat at the front this time and was appalled to see uncovered salad constantly being picked up for either sandwiches, or taken into the kitchen for plated food with bare hands .. this being so the assistant then proceeded to take money from customers and carry on doing the same, had I seen this before we had our meal we would not have eaten it ! needless to say we will not be visiting again very disappointed as the owner himself is very friendly

Nipped in as wanted to sit somewhere without collage kids taking over. Was quite empty had a home made scone and pot of tea. Order taken by a very grumpy rude waitress scone wasn't that nice served with cheap looking and tasting jam and tinned squirty cream. Just not nice tea in a very old tiny teapot and stained tea cup. Won't return I'm afraid needs a revamp and customer service training... A smile goes a long way

The place itself looks clean and inviting and the menu reads well too. The problem is that on paper the jumbo breakfast looks good value? Sadly however at £6.80 it comes very poorly cooked, greasily presented and using poor quality thin sausages and fatty bacon. Baked beans were stone cold. Sadly it's greasy spoon cooking and presenting skills based on total lack of care, tagged to top quality pricing. Add a tea and the bill comes to £8.35. I am on holiday for the week but will definitely be looking elsewhere tomorrow. Awful value for money?.

I had a lovely lunch, home made cheese, onion and potato pie with chips and mushy peas, followed by big helping of custard tart. I 've been past a few times, but decided to try it out. Waitress service, gives it that personal touch. The menu gave a variety of meals, a couple at the table opposite me had roast beef diner, which looked very appetising, which I will have next time. The food was hot, and freshly cooked, and a large helping. The desserts were also just as good with a generous portion. Prices very reasonable, considering the large portions, better than some of restaurants who charge a fortune. All home made.

Food is a little below average and expensive for what you recieve. £19 for 2 lunches, 1 latte and 1 milk shake. Did not approve of waitress sweeping around my feet whilst eating and sending up plumbs of dust. Does not accept credit/debit cards although there is a cash point a few shops away

Passed this place many times and I thought I would try it. Glad I did. The place is clean, tidy and nicely laid out. The menu has lots of options. I ordered a ham salad which was huge and you get a choice of a jacket potato or chips. They have to put them on a separate plate has there is so much salad and meat on your plate there's no where to put it!The salad was very fresh and was nicely presented. Lots of ham too. The service was very efficient. Well worth a visit.

We went here as birds cafe is not open on a Sunday. Looking at the prices on the menu we thought it looked expensive but don't mind paying a bit extra for good quality home cooked ingredients. What we got did not meet either of these criteria. The warning bells should have rung when I asked what the soup was expecting a maximum of 2 home cooked options, what I got was a list of Heinz tinned soups! I decided against that and we both went for the hot pork stuffing roll. I could not believe my eyes when it arrived £4 for a farm foods bab (we saw them go and get these) with warmed up cheap packet pork, an absolute rip off. To top it off £1.60 for an "freshly squeezed" orange juice according to the menu, which was more like the cheapest supermarket value version. We would not return here again if someone paid us!

If you fancy a cooked breakfast, look elsewhere. This is by far the worst experience we have had for cooked food, and we have eaten in some dodgy places, India, Africa and Derby!£4.99 for a plate of utterly tasteless, poorly cooked and presented food is more that one should expect from an established food outlet. Cheap tinned tomatoes, sausages from the local ship builders and a Hash Brown which tasting of something I care not to think of was just too much. Perhaps the people of Burton on Trent are happy eating this sort of rubbish. We are not.If Boots the optician opened up elsewhere we would likely never go to Burton again. Its a pity as there are some excellent places, Burton Bridge and the Winery would be missed.

My friends and I went tonight and we watched the man blow his nose and then touch our straws when making the milkshakes, another man emptied the bins and continued to make puddings without washing his hands, they used water only to clean their utensils. Didn’t help that it took ages for them to make! Utterly disgusting! Put us off our milkshakes so we ended up leaving them!!! Never go here unless you want to catch an illness !

Usually a top place to eat. Cafe staff are exceptional as are most the staff there, with the exception of Mr Vest the store manager. But on this occasion there was a bird flying around the store. I didn't realise until id finished my coffee and cake. They were still selling food and beverage to be consumed on site with a bird in store.

Whilst in store after ordering 2 iced coffee’s we were handed our drinks without lids. My partner very politely asked if we could have lids for our drinks and the member of staff very rudely replied ‘if we had lids I would’ve put one on’. Being an assistant manager in retail I would be appalled if I heard any of my staff speaking to a customer like this.

My partner and I have started popping in recently since the new landlord has taken over. Having read the recent comments I wouldnt take any notice of them, I have been local to the area for years and sadly it’s just one of those areas where certain people do not like change. There is always a good atmosphere, beer is good, we tried the steak night last night (Thursday) and we’re really impressed! Locally sourced Aberdeen Angus steak, beautifully cooked, plenty on the plate and very reasonable! £27.95 for 2 steaks (sirloin) and a bottle of vino, extremely good value and no scrimping on quality. Keep up the good work 👍
