Went for Sunday dinner and the food was great, staff are really friendly and the prices are fair. Inside seating is quite cosy and comfortable. We also had dessert, which was nice.

Took my son here tonight and we were left for 40 minutes without even the offer of a drink. We were completely ignored and other people coming in after us were getting served. Once I had got up to walk out the waitress the suddenly noticed us! Will never come back. Such a shame as I’ve just moved here and like to support local businesses

Waited 50 minutes for the food. Was ok, nothing special but cooked well. The main concern was increasing the prices on all our mains from the menu. When I questioned this the waitress looked embarrassed, she obviously knew what they had done and brought a revised bill. This was not wrong items so no mistake. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Had an amazing anniversary dinner here, my boyfriend ordered the katsu curry and I ordered the Seabass, both were absolutely delicious! Staff are really lovely and a really nice atmosphere.

Just had the best Sunday lunch here! I have always been disappointed if eating out for Sunday lunch, and end up wish I'd made my own, until today! Really fresh, served hot, lovely taste gravey, it was delicious 😋 only down side, I was too full for dessert! I had the vegetarian option (butternut squash and beetroot Wellington) and husband had the farm yard (pork, beef and chicken). Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere! In a separate dining area, there was ample room for our extended family of 12. The lighting was ambient and cosy, and the food was both delicious and well presented. Vick and her team provided first class service. All in all, we couldn't have wished for a better venue for our Christmas family celebration.

Would not reccomend the gluten free roast all they do to make it glutne free is remove the yorkshire puddings which is arguably the best bit. To make it worse they do not offer any reduction in price despite serving less food. Rest of the food was ok but a bit cold and bland.

First time visiting Knaresborough and had seen this place online. Great for Coeliac disease options. Food was great.

One of the tastiest Sunday roasts I’ve had in a pub - it felt like a proper home cooked meal (and there was no scrimping on the gravy which is always nice). The manager and waiters were lovely too. All in all a great little place with beaut food. Thank you!!

Had the best Sunday Roast here, absolutely delicious and huge portions, really couldn’t fault it! Lovely staff and service, highly recommend if in the area. Our dog was very welcome too. We loved it!

Came midweek for the pie and pint deal which was very reasonably priced - food was good and servers were great - would happily come back if we’re in the area!

What an amazing find! Food is amazing. Staff and service is fantastic. We have just moved to Knaresborough and have found our go to restaurant. We had the best table just by the open fire. Amazing you have got to try this place when in Knaresbrough.

Nice little spot with staff who are very helpful. We went with a big party and think we pushed them to their limits with the amount of servings they could do at once. But they did well and the food came out in a decent amount of time. It seemed to be all freshly prepared and tasted really good. The veggies were a little different with nice sweet carrots and parsnips. The cut of pork was different to what you often get and one I much preferred, possibly belly with some great flavour. One pork was a bit dry but others were good. We sat out the back which was a nice area that had the train station over the back so the kids got very excited every time a train pulled up which was nice. The dogs enjoyed themselves as well. All in all a very nice experience.

We spent a weekend in Knaresborough and had a fantastic meal at Carriages. So much so that we returned for Sunday lunch. Thank you so much everyone there.

That was probably the best meal I had in the area, service is great and friendly, food was absolutely gorgeous from A to Z, can’t fault anything. Had 2 starters : chorizo and arancini 10/10 2 sandwiches : chicken and steak 10/10, salad dressing gorgeous, fries great and sandwiches perfect. Can’t fault it. Good wine by the glass It’s perfect with a perfect outside area with a good view, I’ll be back soon.

Me and my daughter went to have some food here. I scoped it out by pictures on Google before we went. I do that because how else I'll know what to order. I had a good wage coming in this month so I thought to go and treat our selves. Staff was very nice and we took the seats outside right over the trainline. Wish there hadn't been a strike. Would have been a cool view at the trains going underneath. Food was great. I was jealous of my daughters burger. It was amazing. Chips vere out of this world. We had to leave earlier than I wanted because of wasps.. But there is nothing that staff could have done about it. Oh and the portions are very well sized. I eat a lot and I wasn't disappointed at all at mine or hers. Definitely would come back again.

Booked a table online weeks in advance for my partner’s birthday. When we arrived we were told the kitchen would be closing in 30 minutes - no warning of this during booking. Then the staff member comes back moments later to tell us that, actually, the kitchen is already closed. When we asked why we were even able to book the time the response was along the lines of “sorry not sorry.” Shockingly, their website is still accepting bookings at 2:30. Completely ruined what was supposed to be a birthday treat 👎👎👎

Enjoyed an excellent light lunch, chicken wrap, salad and chips. Great food and service. If weather had been better would have eaten in the pleasant garden terrace

Had ribs which was disgusting no barbecue sauce which they said on menu it was on the pork really dry too expensive for what u get 8 pound for two little chicken strips

Only popped in for a drink and to ask for details of a cab company. Friendly and helpful staff although we didn't manage to get a cab so we started walking. About 20 mins in to our walk a car pulled up. It was the pub landlord. We had left a bag of shopping at the table and he got in his car and found us enroute. What a star. That is what I call EXCELLENT service.

Travelled from Leeds after been recommended,We booked but we were earlier the staff were very accommodating and managed to move our booking up by an hour. Very polite and happy to help. It was genuinely the best Sunday dinner we’ve had. We had the traditional Sunday lunch and from the vegetables such a good choice to all the meats which were absolutely cooked to perfection and plenty and the homemade Yorkshire Puddings. Highly recommend and definitely going back.

Walked in just after 6:05pm to a moderately busy bar. Stood at the bar waiting for another customer who had ordered. Bar staff finished the order and then served the customer stood behind us who were clearly with the other party from the restaurant side. Left without ordering simply because I don’t like being ignored or prioritised over people who have visited for a meal!

We came in for Sunday lunch and some “prinks” - the place is amazing - great atmosphere, great staff and the food was perfectly cooked and tasty. Ambience is important and this place has it a plenty. Great wine selection and the owner is keen to ensure you are having a good time and you are enjoying the food. Rare find - privately owned and keen to make it work. We will definitely be back. No pre-frozen food - just hearty ingredients and a vibe that is hard to emulate. Thanks Carriages - we will be back soon.

Very average food with a dry burger and hard bacon as if it had been sat under a lamp for hours on end. Staff were quite slow in serving.

Popped in for Sunday lunch. I had chicken dinner which came with a large Yorkshire pudding beautiful. The meal was cooked to perfection and one of the nicest I’ve had in a long time. We will return.

We’ve had mixed experiences here. Some have been excellent, particularly in summer out the back, some not so great. We came here for Sunday lunch to be told they didn’t serve it, but seems they do? And we have found some of the staff not to be particularly attentive or accommodating at times. It’s slightly higher on pricing too. Food wise, it has always been very tasty and hot.

Had a guest with us who was a wheelchair user . Staff very accommodating to our needs . Food excellent, roast turkey ,one burger and two fish and chips which were the same quality as a fish restaurant. Puddings were equally as good . No hesitation to recommend look forward to our return x

We booked to come here for a Sunday roast as we were visiting the area. The pork roast dinner was lovely, would defiantly recommend getting a side of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese!!and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Went there with my wife last night..not the best to be honest...wasn't going to say anything online but it seems the owner has confused us with another couple citing my wife was very rude during our visit. I would definitely not recommend this place primarily for food and untrue comments made just now against my wife. We are consistent contributors on here and like to leave honest reviews anywhere we have been. Any business has an opportunity to learn and improve but they just decided to lie and put blame on the customer. Not cool.

Arrogant comment to my review..downgraded the rating!!! Anyone can post a picture of anything that relates to the venue and experience. Rude, rude,rude! At no point was I rude to anyone. Left a good tip as was happy with the service...no comments whatsoever on price..would be happy to pay more for a better main. Expected a bit more...ordered pork belly...i was brought a tiny piece..no apricot purree or peach bon bon came with it..a slightly grilled (almost raw) piece of cabbage and green beans (not butter on them or anything) cost £4 extra.. hubby had a burger..was prob a better choice. Definitely not a place I would go back to based on tonight.

Great location but misses the bear pit grill taste on their food. Steaks were bland, menu limited and sides not particularly great (small portions and lacked flavour or seasoning) real shame as I used to love coming here... A lot of the specials were not available either. Unfortunately I won't be back unless it's for a drink / cocktails.

Was a lovely, friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious and well made. We sat out the rear in the covered beer garden, which was warm where the heaters were. Later we sat in the pub to continue our lovely evening. The pub appears to be mullet-inclusive, which was nice.

Tremendous food. Have made a decision to go to a tapas style which I don't think works but I can't fault the quality.

Had an amazing lunch of slow roasted ox cheek and potatoes and veg with pineapple and baked ice cream for dessert. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever tasted. We will be back thank you for the excellent service and friendly warm welcome.

More than a five star experience! This place is a real gem, I cannot recommend it highly enough. We were visiting Knaresborough for the day and decided to pop in for lunch, what an amazing experience we had. From friendly, professional staff that greet you with a smile and a “lovely to meet you”, to unbelievable food straight from the fire pit that definitely takes real skill to prepare you can just feel the love that is poured into every bit of this business. We live an hour away and only visit the area once in a while because we like Knaresborough as a whole, but we have both agreed that we will be visiting more often so we can sample some other delights from this menu. Oh and so you all know we both had the Ox cheek and a side of crispy garlic potatoes and grilled stem broccoli and mange tout, with myself having the cheesecake and my wife having the baked pineapple for desert. All of it was just pure perfection on a plate.

So disappointed the chef Sam Pullan has left - the menu is nowhere as nice. Service was slow and not overly attentive. The waiter made a sarcastic comment when we only ordered water at lunch to drink (it was 30°C out)! We used to love coming here - it’s not the same. We won’t hurry back.

After waiting 40 minutes we got a drink at the table, they got the drinks wrong. it took another 45 (over an hour since we ordered) for food to arrive. Had to ask for the side orders again, sauces for various steaks arrived eventually. Another round of drinks, very slow and incorrect. To get the attention of staff you had to either raise your voice or stand in their way. I didn’t have fork from the pile of cutlery thrown on the table and got tutted at for asking for one. When I paid they didn’t ask ‘was everything ok’? as they could clearly see it wasn’t. Not one word of apology for the poor service and barely acknowledged us as we left. Don’t even get me started on the toilets, narrow rickety stairs with a hand rail that’s coming off the wall, someone will go backwards down those stairs and the sinks were filthy, full of what looked like hair and soap slime. Luckily they’re fully booked tonight so we’ll have go somewhere else!!! All in all, absolutely diabolical. The food was ok, but not worth the £20+ per plate. Would have given less than 1 star if possible

What a Gem of a find! A lovely suprise when you first walk in and are led to the rear garden. Ample seating, opposite the Bear pit, where your food is freshly prepared! All i can say is WOW! lovely staff, very friendly, and proper good tasty food!

Needs to be more places like this in the UK. Can't beat a BBQ! Deliciously cooked, lovely outside area warm or cold weather it's perfect. Friendly staff and a good selection of drinks too. Definitely coming back here again and you should too!
