The food here is exceptional. Well thought through, great presentation and great service. Seriously, this place needs a mention in some "Great Food Awards" guide. Well done.

Visited for their regular Thursday evening jazz/blues night.... great venue with a good choice of beers and wines. Food from a varied menu was great. 3 seating areas although stage is set adjacent to the bar so some hubbub. Hope to go back for another night.

We got the tapas and the food itself was lovely and came out in a good amount of time, the owner came over and had a chat with us and was so lovely.

Lovely restaurant, don’t be fooled by the size, much bigger than you think, service and welcome excellent all very friendly helpful and knowledgeable, food all fantastic couldn’t fault anything, great portions all perfectly prepared, great atmosphere, obvious a lot of people returning customers, always a good sign, we will be.

Very nice evening meal on a Monday. Place was quietish, but service and food top notch nonetheless. Gastropub price level but well worth it. Nice old building has to place its mens restroom up steep staircase.

We had a fantastic meal here the other night. Great restaurant, lovely vibe. Food was outstanding especially the trio of pork and sticky toffee pud (best ever) Our waiter Jacob was excellent - super efficient and yet really friendly and engaging. Highly highly recommend!

Amazing food, service and ambience. Went for Sunday lunch and did not disappoint, will defo be back. Live in Harrogate (30 yrs) so loads of options in town and surrounding area, but this is one of / the best chilled cosy Sunday lunches ever had. Book to avoid disappointment.

Food available ALL DAY...Lovely Sunny back garden....TASTY TAPAS....good beers.....pub with character.....good main street Location.....Knaresborough is a lovely place with Riverside walks and Mother Shipton's cave visitors centre and walk....plenty of parking.

Came for drinks, cocktails decent enough but not groundbreaking, run of the mill margarita. Decided to have a few tapas (better Patatas Bravas than Le Feria in Harrogate) which were excellent in fairness as well as a pudding, good gluten free options. Coffee offering could do with improvement.

We booked three weeks ago for our anniversary meal on the 26th for 7pm in the evening. We received a phone call at 5pm to say they were short of food as they had been so busy! So did we want to still come for tapas . I cancelled and certainly will not be rebooking here. Very disappointing and upsetting!

Absolutely amazing service, Incredible food and a lovely atmosphere. Myself and my boyfriend came here for our 4 year anniversary after a lovely day out and it completely made our day. Nowhere better to go for a meal in Knaresborough!

I was surprised at this place I don't know what I expected but the food was exceptional and the server ( grey beard) was so so lovely it made everything more enjoyable when the service is fab. Also the view over the train track at sunset was just amazing.

I recently had a fantastic dining experience at Carriages in Knaresborough. We chose to sit in the charming beer garden, which provided a delightful atmosphere for our meal. The evening started with a selection of bread and calamari, both of which were absolutely delectable and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For our mains, we enjoyed a variety of dishes including sirloin steak, a cheeseburger, and a chicken Kiev. Each dish was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The sirloin steak was tender and juicy, the cheeseburger was packed with flavor, and the chicken Kiev was crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist inside. We also enjoyed several rounds of beers, which were perfectly chilled and complemented the meal wonderfully. The selection was impressive, and the quality of the brews added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. A special mention goes to our server, Victoria, who was amazing throughout our visit. She provided excellent service with a great sense of humor and a sweet demeanor, making us feel welcome and well taken care of. The only drawback was the tacky menus, which seemed out of place in such a lovely establishment. They would benefit from a redesign in simple black and white to better reflect the elegant style of Carriages. Overall, Carriages offers an outstanding dining experience with delicious food, excellent service, and a beautiful setting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Knaresborough. Four stars! Would have been five if not for the tacky menus.

We were a walk-in on a busy Sunday afternoon. We had a table within 1/2 an hour and were served promptly, professionally, and with a smile. It had a very friendly atmosphere

Lovely dog friendly gastropub in a central position! Service with a smile, delicious food and a relaxing atmosphere. We opted for the Wednesday steak special and it was perfect for us. Highly recommend. (Fabulous unexpected beer garden view of the railway lines and viaduct from above!)

Don't visit if you are a group of 6+. Came to this pub last year with a few mates and had absolutely no problem having a drink and sitting on the lovely terrace. However unfortunately after walking in this time we were met with instant rudeness and hostility, and were told to leave as we were a "group of lads". It's a shame that the gentleman at the bar felt so strongly that we shouldn't be there, which he made clear around 10 seconds after we walked into the pub. It's a shame that the bar staff couldn't tell the difference between a group of rowdy lads (which we weren't) and a few mates just wanting to enjoy a drink on a Saturday afternoon. I didn't get his name but I assume the gentleman at the bar is a regular so perhaps he should stick to visiting the pub on quieter days when he can have the place to himself instead of a Saturday. We took our business to the Mitre instead which had a great selection of Brew York beer on tap and funnily enough had no issues serving us a pint each.

Such a shame. We are a group of ‘lads’ but we get together to come to places all around Yorkshire and more, to try great beer and food in bars/pubs that usually value your custom. We were asked to leave before we could even utter a word. I’ll be back as an individual but why not read the room and let a group of customers come in who respect your business and want to support? Also disappointing to ultimately end up at the new Brew York pub, ‘The Mitre’ who probably don’t need the custom as much? Or at least that’s how we think.

It's an amazing place, great people and fantastic food. We were visiting the area, and we found this place in google Maps. We have a soon in a wheelchair and we struggle getting into places because of space and dotn like to bother others while eating with sounds, but their staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We have been recommending you to everyone because you are fantastic. Thank you for the amazing experience

Used this pub for years under various owners. Tonight ordered a stout, barman pulled a pint and put it to one side then pulled mine. I took one sip at the bar, it tasted like rotten eggs. Clearly not happy he then offered me another beer saying no one had complained before. Wouldn't answer why he put a pint aside before. Got another drink and sat down. He gave the pint to another guy he clearly knew. Then he starts going on at us making us very uncomfortable saying he doesn't recognise us as locals despite a waitress saying she did. He got so bad we left our drinks (full) and left. We are late 50s and never seen anything like this. He said he was the owner but we have never seen him before. Sad thing is my wife who was with me. Her and her friends use this place often. Never again. Just stunned, never given a place in this town a bad review Reply after yours. I assumed you had CCTV of the incident so was accurate in my review. We arrived in town at 530 for a meal at 1858, then one drink at 6 poor folk and one at the mitre ( stout) Yours was the fourth pub. I did not offer the drink to anyone. A man with long hair asked you if he could have the drink when you took it off me. You gave the whole drink to him. He actually recommended a different beer he liked and I took his advice and thanked him. Hardly falling out You replaced the drink with a fruity beer and we sat opposite the bar. You continued to stress no one had complained about the stout before and you had sold 2 pints that night. You got agitated when I asked why then had you poured a three quarter pint before mine and put it to one side. It is not something you do normally. We decided to leave at that point and I gave the second pint of fruity beer to the man with the long hair sat at the bar.. I did this because he recommended the beer when you offered an alternative and because he was being friendly. He was very happy. The drink was full as was the fruit juice my wife had ordered. You seemed obsessed we were not locals and didn't recognise us. To be fair I have never seen you before in the pub, it is usually younger staff behind the bar. You only introduced yourself as owner when I asked to speak to the manager. As for not recognising your wife as co owner I am sorry, she has never introduced herself as such, I assumed she was a permanent member of staff. As she brought food to the table I thought she was a waitress. Without title badges this is an easy mistake, and petty to make an issue of

Went for Sunday dinner and the food was great, staff are really friendly and the prices are fair. Inside seating is quite cosy and comfortable. We also had dessert, which was nice.

Took my son here tonight and we were left for 40 minutes without even the offer of a drink. We were completely ignored and other people coming in after us were getting served. Once I had got up to walk out the waitress the suddenly noticed us! Will never come back. Such a shame as I’ve just moved here and like to support local businesses

Waited 50 minutes for the food. Was ok, nothing special but cooked well. The main concern was increasing the prices on all our mains from the menu. When I questioned this the waitress looked embarrassed, she obviously knew what they had done and brought a revised bill. This was not wrong items so no mistake. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Had an amazing anniversary dinner here, my boyfriend ordered the katsu curry and I ordered the Seabass, both were absolutely delicious! Staff are really lovely and a really nice atmosphere.

Just had the best Sunday lunch here! I have always been disappointed if eating out for Sunday lunch, and end up wish I'd made my own, until today! Really fresh, served hot, lovely taste gravey, it was delicious 😋 only down side, I was too full for dessert! I had the vegetarian option (butternut squash and beetroot Wellington) and husband had the farm yard (pork, beef and chicken). Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere! In a separate dining area, there was ample room for our extended family of 12. The lighting was ambient and cosy, and the food was both delicious and well presented. Vick and her team provided first class service. All in all, we couldn't have wished for a better venue for our Christmas family celebration.

Would not reccomend the gluten free roast all they do to make it glutne free is remove the yorkshire puddings which is arguably the best bit. To make it worse they do not offer any reduction in price despite serving less food. Rest of the food was ok but a bit cold and bland.

First time visiting Knaresborough and had seen this place online. Great for Coeliac disease options. Food was great.

One of the tastiest Sunday roasts I’ve had in a pub - it felt like a proper home cooked meal (and there was no scrimping on the gravy which is always nice). The manager and waiters were lovely too. All in all a great little place with beaut food. Thank you!!

What an amazing find! Food is amazing. Staff and service is fantastic. We have just moved to Knaresborough and have found our go to restaurant. We had the best table just by the open fire. Amazing you have got to try this place when in Knaresbrough.

Nice little spot with staff who are very helpful. We went with a big party and think we pushed them to their limits with the amount of servings they could do at once. But they did well and the food came out in a decent amount of time. It seemed to be all freshly prepared and tasted really good. The veggies were a little different with nice sweet carrots and parsnips. The cut of pork was different to what you often get and one I much preferred, possibly belly with some great flavour. One pork was a bit dry but others were good. We sat out the back which was a nice area that had the train station over the back so the kids got very excited every time a train pulled up which was nice. The dogs enjoyed themselves as well. All in all a very nice experience.

We spent a weekend in Knaresborough and had a fantastic meal at Carriages. So much so that we returned for Sunday lunch. Thank you so much everyone there.

That was probably the best meal I had in the area, service is great and friendly, food was absolutely gorgeous from A to Z, can’t fault anything. Had 2 starters : chorizo and arancini 10/10 2 sandwiches : chicken and steak 10/10, salad dressing gorgeous, fries great and sandwiches perfect. Can’t fault it. Good wine by the glass It’s perfect with a perfect outside area with a good view, I’ll be back soon.

Me and my daughter went to have some food here. I scoped it out by pictures on Google before we went. I do that because how else I'll know what to order. I had a good wage coming in this month so I thought to go and treat our selves. Staff was very nice and we took the seats outside right over the trainline. Wish there hadn't been a strike. Would have been a cool view at the trains going underneath. Food was great. I was jealous of my daughters burger. It was amazing. Chips vere out of this world. We had to leave earlier than I wanted because of wasps.. But there is nothing that staff could have done about it. Oh and the portions are very well sized. I eat a lot and I wasn't disappointed at all at mine or hers. Definitely would come back again.

Booked a table online weeks in advance for my partner’s birthday. When we arrived we were told the kitchen would be closing in 30 minutes - no warning of this during booking. Then the staff member comes back moments later to tell us that, actually, the kitchen is already closed. When we asked why we were even able to book the time the response was along the lines of “sorry not sorry.” Shockingly, their website is still accepting bookings at 2:30. Completely ruined what was supposed to be a birthday treat 👎👎👎

Had ribs which was disgusting no barbecue sauce which they said on menu it was on the pork really dry too expensive for what u get 8 pound for two little chicken strips

Only popped in for a drink and to ask for details of a cab company. Friendly and helpful staff although we didn't manage to get a cab so we started walking. About 20 mins in to our walk a car pulled up. It was the pub landlord. We had left a bag of shopping at the table and he got in his car and found us enroute. What a star. That is what I call EXCELLENT service.

Travelled from Leeds after been recommended,We booked but we were earlier the staff were very accommodating and managed to move our booking up by an hour. Very polite and happy to help. It was genuinely the best Sunday dinner we’ve had. We had the traditional Sunday lunch and from the vegetables such a good choice to all the meats which were absolutely cooked to perfection and plenty and the homemade Yorkshire Puddings. Highly recommend and definitely going back.

Walked in just after 6:05pm to a moderately busy bar. Stood at the bar waiting for another customer who had ordered. Bar staff finished the order and then served the customer stood behind us who were clearly with the other party from the restaurant side. Left without ordering simply because I don’t like being ignored or prioritised over people who have visited for a meal!

We came in for Sunday lunch and some “prinks” - the place is amazing - great atmosphere, great staff and the food was perfectly cooked and tasty. Ambience is important and this place has it a plenty. Great wine selection and the owner is keen to ensure you are having a good time and you are enjoying the food. Rare find - privately owned and keen to make it work. We will definitely be back. No pre-frozen food - just hearty ingredients and a vibe that is hard to emulate. Thanks Carriages - we will be back soon.

Very average food with a dry burger and hard bacon as if it had been sat under a lamp for hours on end. Staff were quite slow in serving.

Popped in for Sunday lunch. I had chicken dinner which came with a large Yorkshire pudding beautiful. The meal was cooked to perfection and one of the nicest I’ve had in a long time. We will return.

We’ve had mixed experiences here. Some have been excellent, particularly in summer out the back, some not so great. We came here for Sunday lunch to be told they didn’t serve it, but seems they do? And we have found some of the staff not to be particularly attentive or accommodating at times. It’s slightly higher on pricing too. Food wise, it has always been very tasty and hot.

Food was great, thought side dush of cauliflower cheese at £5 was expensive
