Carousels Fish and Chips Brighton in Brighton and Hove

I went today and was waiting with other two older ladies waiting to be serviced at the ice counter, the ladies tried few times to tell the staff; which there are serving fish and chips to other people; to come and serve them with ice cream. After few minutes without any service the two ladies left and I kept waiting for about more than 10 mins, finally a young girl come with grumpy face and I asked I want an ice 2 cones of ice cream two scoop each, instead of apologising for the wait, she said what do you want in a rude manner which I founded offensive, so I said cancell and l don't like your customer service. That was at about 2:00 pm Tuesday 17/9/2024.

Maria and Andy are the best people with always a smile on there faces and the food is lovely and tasty 100% and always helpful and polite and customer service is outstanding will always go back to have lovely food 🐟🍟lovely location and plenty of seating carousels is the best for hot food and ice creams

We took a trip there last night for a Fish and Chip supper night with entertainment and a ride on the Carousel. All of us grown adults on the carousel was brilliant I thoroughly enjoyed it. We all had THE best night, the staff are lovely, the food delicious and the entertainment excellent. It’s a BIG 5 ⭐️ from me. Thankyou to everyone for such a great evening, we will be back 👍🏻

This place is probably one of the best places to sit and eat fish and chips on Brighton seafront and have a lovely cocktail on the beach watching the carousel. Very tasty food and great staff !!

This is a prime location right on the sea front and close to the pier - so I would imagine it will always do a trade. Was it good? No. Was it bad? No. Totally inoffensive.

The staff were amazingly courteous and the service was with a smile. What better service could ever go with the equally high level of tastefulness and awesomeness of the food that was served 5 stars from me!!!

Stopped here as a long walk back from Hove and the arches. Reasonable enough, nothing mind blowing but a decent piece of fish and chips.

Lunch at this cafe beautiful venue. Chips and fish poorly cooked and very expensive. Greasy thick batter tasted like old burnt oil. Chips worst l have ever eaten . $8 salad ten lettuce leaves drowned in supermarket dressing. Huge disappointment. It's an international destination.

Probably the best Fish and chips I have had for a long time. Cooked fresh and a nice piece of fish that tasted of Cod and not a greasy substitute. My wife had scampi and that was cooked just right and not burnt like some do. The pricing is spot on too 👍👍 Delicious..would deffo eat there again 👍

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Great service and a great spot on brighton seafront. Fair rides for the kids to enjoy and a pub for the grown ups.

Food was not great and expensive, there was hair on my good the lettuce was brown and there was a whole bag of flour on my burger however the staff were nice and that’s the only good thing about it!!

Came here with a friend for a bite to eat, quick service, fresh food and beautiful fish. Very reasonable in price. Was served by friendly staff and a good atmosphere, not a long wait either in a busy half term period. Also went on the carousel, loveliest man ever taking the tokens.

Waited 15 minutes for 4 portions of cheesy chips and no apology was given for waiting that long. Rude manager with no knowledge of customer service only gave me her first name as ‘Marie’ really needs to get herself enrolled onto a customer service course and stop teaching youngsters working there to be rude like her. Save yourself rude service and grab a bite elsewhere.

Whilst I appreciate that no fish can be guaranteed to be 100% bone free, the one I ordered today had 6 bones in the first bite. I don't even want to think what the rest of it would have been like! When I asked the staff to swap it for something else as I had my 18 months old daughter with me and couldn't possibly feed her that fish and risk choking her, the woman in charge (a blonde lady in her 50s) very rudely replied that all fish have bones and I should just deal with it. She mumbled something else, then reluctantly agreed to have the fish swapped for a hot dog. Again, I'd echoey to find a bone or two in a fillet, but 6 on the one bite seemed a bit too much! Will definitely not be eating there again!

We had 2 X haddock and chips plus one portion of chicken nuggets with chips. One piece of fish was acceptable, just. One piece absolutely awful. The chicken nuggets must have either been left cooked for a long time or cooked multiple times - dry as a bone. A mistake for us to eat there. Oh well.

Eat here at your own risk... Spend a few quid more and get some good fish and chips. Trash. Costs as much as a better restaurant down the walk... Do not do this.

My husband and I visited Brighton on 7 September and chose to eat at Carousels. I had scampi and chips and my husband had Haddock and chips. My scampi was good but unfortunately our chips were so bad. Even the plastic knife could not penetrate them. They tasted like carboard and were obviously yesterday's leftovers reheated. I will ensure that we will never eat there again and will also let my friends and relatives know to avoid this place.

Very good food indeed freshly cooked and it was 9pm good service and nicely cooked as well. Excellent position on the front

Stopped by here for just a coffee and a tea, asked to use the toilet .....they where so clean this is one place in brighton taking covid 19 seriously plus nice staff at hand to help, yes very clean well done to all staff.

Visitamos el 20/07/20 por la tarde, no hay servicio de mesa y el servicio es lo normal donde vas al bar y pides tus bebidas. Haces cola en una fila para que te atiendan, lo cual está bien. El barman era agradable y amable, el precio de las bebidas era el esperado por la ubicación. Conseguimos 2 porciones grandes de patatas fritas y una olla de salsa de tomate para 8, un poco caro. Pero las patatas fritas son las mejores de Brighton. Fue agradable sentarse tomando unas copas mirando al mar. Volvería y usaría de nuevo.

The people that is working there they don’t have any care about the costumers. I ask for chips and basically they gave me with plenty of salt without asking me anything. And when i went to complain about it, the attitude was horrible.

Pedí pescado y barcos y pedí que los barcos estuvieran bien hechos. cuando recibí mi pedido, los barcos estaban empapados y no estaban bien hechos, pero cuando le pregunté a la señora de la caja, ella dijo que le dije que venía en una dirección, lo cual no era cierto. Una señora de la parte de atrás intervino de una manera muy grosera y me pidió mi pescado y los barcos de regreso para obtener un reembolso que no pedí. . al final solo conseguí el pescado. No pediría que mis barcos estuvieran bien hechos si hubiera una cola, pero yo era el único cliente en ese momento. Me decepcionó mucho la mala calidad del servicio al cliente.

Después de un largo encierro, fue un placer disfrutar de una hamburguesa y papas fritas en el frente. 6. 00 para hamburguesa y papas fritas no puede estar mal y la hamburguesa con cebolla fue una de las mejores que he comido y muchas papas fritas para acompañarla. Vivimos localmente y volveremos a comer y charlar con el vendedor. Realmente agradable. Gracias, has hecho mi dia.

Stopped to grab a portion of chips today, they weren’t fresh, you could tell they’d been sitting around, warm and stale tasting, have been before when it’s been busy and they were fresh, need to up your game, lots of competition around you..

Friendly and welcome coffee, hot chocolate and cake on the seafront - in the arches on a dark wet and windy day, able to warm up and watch the beach.

Best fish n chips on Brighton Seafront - went on the beach with ours - got literally attacked by seagulls!! Manager replaced our food for free! So kind! New indoor eating area done out like circus theme - cool!

Attended a wedding reception here and it was wonderful. Staff were brilliant, food was great and the place was decorated beautifully.

Me and my family visited carousel chippy and bar first of all served by very young staff no skills at all the bar very exspensive dearer than the pier signs say £1 to use toilet plastic cups for wine and beers toilets disgrace carousel rides £2.50 far better deals on pier lucky for us not living far away hove but never again employ cheap labour so service is poor and not very clean

What a joke! Just came for a drink and the minimum on card is £5 - all the beers are below that which means they will charge you £5 regardless what price it is. It’s 2019 people!

Visitamos 2 días consecutivos 21/07/19 y 22/07/19, he estado aquí años anteriores y disfrutado, 3. 50 para chips grandes y los chips estaban muy bien. Tuvimos unas cuantas bebidas, así que el precio estaba bien, solo un poco más de 10 para un arco fuerte y una ginebra rosada y una limonada. Las bebidas a la baja se servían en vasos de plástico. El personal era amable y un buen servicio, la vista desde el bar es buena, ya que se ve el mar y la playa a lo largo de algunos paseos. Recomendaría visitar.

brill chippy and not long to wait for fresh food. Only problem seagulls know where it is too and wait for you coming out. We took ours onto the beach in the evening which was really handy

Sin embargo, no puedo dejar malas críticas normalmente ya que trabajo en un restaurante. . . Porción de pescado y patatas fritas no era barato. Muy decepcionante, ya que el pescado era de muy baja calidad y claramente uno de los más baratos que podían comprar. En su mayoría era solo la mezcla con casi ningún pescado. ¡Lo poco que había de él no era carnoso en lo más mínimo, e incluso encontré múltiples huesos! No me hubiera importado si el pescado hubiera sido realmente bueno. Las patatas fritas eran promedio y pagaron 1 por una olla de gránulos de salsa Bisto, no vendrían aquí de inmediato.

Llegué a Brighton con otros tres amigos y pensé que iríamos aquí porque estaba bastante tranquilo. Mis dos amigos estadounidenses pidieron comida y todo el tiempo los dos servidores que parecían unos doce sonrieron y les quitaron la mecha a ambos. Mis amigos no se dieron cuenta de que estaban muy ocupados consiguiendo el cambio correcto, pero descubrí que eran completamente groseros e inapropiados.

Got food poisoning from the fish, portion was very small given the price, place was really busy so wasn’t relaxing. Won’t be back here again.

Tuvimos una excelente comida de pescado y papas fritas servida por un equipo muy agradable. Buscamos el aspecto valor por dinero. Gran gran comida muy buen gusto. El sonido del carrusel creó el ambiente perfecto para acompañar mi helado Kelly's después de la cena.

Nice place to sit on the beach and grab a quick lunch. Ate here on our way to the i360 and love the carousel outside - so nostalgic!

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at the carousels it was reasonably priced for the location and qualify of food, and the Kelly’s ice cream was delicious too! Would recommended!

María y su equipo fueron increíblemente serviciales y amables, hicieron que el evento y el bar funcionaran sin problemas. ¡No podría recomendar suficiente Carousel! El espacio es peculiar y divertido, flexible y super central. Nuestros huéspedes se lo pasaron de maravilla y comentaron lo fantásticos que eran el espacio y la ubicación.

We visited Monday 27th August for a couple of drinks and again Tuesday 28th August for a drink & food. Good location looking out to sea and great to people watch when walking past. Drinks expensive at nearly £10 for a strongbow & corona. Unfortunately all drinks are poured in plastic glasses which we all know makes the beer tastes not as nice as in glass. Toilets were a bit of a mess and need a bloody good clean. Quick service on both visits to the bar. We only had chips which was £5 for 2 small trays of chips, to be fair they were nice tasting chips. Would visit again but the owner needs to give the bar area & toilets a good clean and make over.

We were passing on our way to the pier & saw this place was busy & took that as a positive, ordered fish & chips & a portion of chips with curry sauce, all but the curry sauce was awful, really dry fish & the chips tasted like over cooked oven chips, they ended up in the bin, sorry would not recommend, very disappointed.

Awful chips. Under cooked, hard and threw over half of them away. Friend did the same. Wouldn’t eat here again. Convenient for the beach but not much further walk to get better food elsewhere

The student staying with my family came home today upset by the rude treatment she got here today. The price displayed on the board for fish and chips was £6 but they charged her £11 saying the board was showing an old price. When she chased her slow to arrive food they accused her of not paying and then tried to charge her extra. What a horrible representation of Brighton and the British seaside. I'm really upset that this cafe is happy to treat tourists in this way. Reading other reviews on Trip Advisor it seems that this is far from an isolated incident.

The cheesheburger was made with old fried onion and the chips I guess they’ve been cooked in the morning otherwise i don’t explain why they we’re so hard and dry and without any taste, not even salt . Really disappointed for a shop at the edge of the beach .

Stopped off at carousels for a portion of fish and chips during a weekend stay in Brighton. It was the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten and had to throw 90% of the food away. I should have taken the fact there was no fish options other than "fish".

Went to visit on a lovely summers evening and fancied some fish and chips. Chose to go to carousels but that was a big mistake. The food is so overpriced and the staff are so rude and uninterested. Was not welcomed nicely and they even forgot to give me stuff I paid for. Really should review prices considering it’s quite a popular place in Brighton, not that I’ll ever visit again! The staff just make the place seem 100 times worse!!! Also I mean £7.00 for fish and chips seems a little pricey to me!

Absolute disgrace . £7.20 for 4 small pieces of scampi and 3 day old chips. You are without doubt the worst place we’ve ever visited and an absolute disgrace to Brighton.

My partner and I were here last Summer. We both ordered burger and chips. We were both quite shocked to see that the burgers had already been cooked before we ordered then and were left on the side beside the griddle. The guy who was cooking the food took two of these burgers and put them on the griddle to heat them up. We should have said something then but trusted that the burgers had only just been cooked. Since In the following days my partner and I were really ill with sickness and Diaharreah. Trust us, you will want to avoid this place. We were also charged £13 for the pleasure of having food poisoning.

The entire time we were there, not a single member of staff looked either interested, welcoming or happy. We did enjoy our food, the location was pretty cool and we were happy with the selection on offer. Good place to sit and people watch from.

A great place to stop for fish n chips, ice cream or even just a drink. The food was good, prices reasonable. Bar staff friendly, and the grandchildren loved the old fashion machines, which was a nice change from all the electronic ones of today.

My niece chose to have her wedding reception at this venue it was great fun and everybody enjoyed themselves. They have a licensed bar and the drinks are at pub prices. Included in the booking everyone had fish and chips mushy peas & a 99...

We just stopped here for drinks while walking down the beach. Range of alcoholic, soft drinks & hot beverages. They do sell fish & chips but we didn't order any. The drinks were ok & staff friendly. Managed to find a table outside lovely sunny...

Buen tamaño de las porciones a precios razonables y un bar dentro del edificio también con muchas más mesas si hace mucho calor afuera o lloviendo. Consejo poco conocida: hay baños anónima escondido detrás de la doble puertas batientes puertas a la izquierda.

Had a lunchtime stop here for real fish and chips - cooked well and tasted great - al washed down with a great, large cup of tea. Nice sitting on the front eating fish and chips. Luckily there were some large umbrellas to stop the ever present seagulls from diving in too. Friendly staff made the experience too.

Family of four stopped off for dinner. Chips were so over cooked we could not even put a fork through them!!! Fishcake was hard around the edges too. Battered sausages were ok. Plenty of clean seating available and a guy was continually cleaning up. The chips have let it down.

Very obliging service and good food at a reasonable price. The outdoor seating is basic, but comfortable. The fish is tasty, moist and very well cooked. The chips are perfect - crispy on the outside and soft inside - just how chips should be. The mushy peas are southern chip shop style with vinegar added, so don't buy them if you like them done plain - i.e. the way they make them up north.

Cheerful fish and chip shop on the seafront churning out enormous quantities of fish and chips (and the occasional burger) at speed. Staff friendly and professional, fish excellent. Seating is outside and apparently you have to beward of thieving seagulls, thought I only met one pigeon, so jaded it could not even be bothered to eat the many scattered chips.

Used this place for a coffee stop every day whilst walking in Brighton.Staff really friendly and always made sure there was water for the dog.Good coffee too

The portion sizes for the chips were good and perfect for lunch. The fish and battered sausage were a little on the small size but having said that, the prices were very reasonable and the service was prompt. Considering the amount of outlets serving chips on the seafront, I felt that the chips could have been a bit tastier but the crispy batter on the fish and sausage made up for any disappointment with the chips.

came here at the end of august and was utterly appaled at the service, the owner or manager or whoever is in charge employ young teenagers who are stroppy and I'm not surprised!!overheard the "adult" with dark hair abusing the youngsters which is awful! she was very rude and the food is well below par. the same lady is obviously the boss and maybe needs to learn some people skills, how she is anybodys boss is quite remarkable.the food was dry and cold and was charged 25p for a ketchup after spending 40 quid....these people need to live in the real world..if it weren't for the passing trade and convenience this place would be dead.

How you can even call these chips is beyond me. Terrible, dry and hard and mine were freshly cooked. £3 for a large pack. 25p for sauce (which you will need) served by stroppy teenagers. Just terrible. Feel like a clown for giving them my money.

We spent a couple of hours here, we had drinks and ice-creams, very nice. We sat people-watching and listening to the carousel which played fairground organ music that we sang along to. Good for families, couples, friends, all ages. Very nice toilets too.

Being starving I ate all of it but the food is below average (fish and chips) curry sauce was nice. Staff rude and unhelpful... If looks could kill I'd be dead. Would never come again even if you paid me! Haven't seen them wipe down a table and was sat here for an hour. Staff look really miserable and only give you a sachet of sauce when you buy a burger actually make that two sachets each burger you buy but it does not state it. I asked for a sachet of sauce for my 3 year old for his saveloy and chips but was asked for 5p after buying 4meals.... Only annoyed as didn't have cash on me and they were so rude and said no to my little one. They must be hard up.

Visited on a day trip to Brighton in the sunshine. Usually visit Harry ramsdens although have recently been disappointed at the restaurant in Southampton. Was very impressed by the food here! We both had fish and chips and I also had baked beans. Think the food gives Harry ramsdens a run for its money! We both said we preferred it. Portion sizes were also good and the chips were nice and crispy just how we like it. I think the guy on the till was new so a bit slow but he was lovely and didn't make any mistakes. We also had a slushy drink each which was quite flavoursome. It was really busy that day although didn't have to wait too long for food which was great. We also got a table to eat at and its near the sea so have nice views. Would definitely eat there again when we visit Brighton.

Myself and my son have been up all night vomiting. The only food that we ate yesterday was from here both sausage and chips. Currently bowled over in agony, so not only a waste of money but disgusting customer service also!

Worst service imaginable, and then mediocre food. Don't bother going here, continue to the end of the pier. There you won't be ignored as you stand in front of the counter; you won't be repeatedly ignored if you ask for ketchup; you won't receive just part of your order; and you won't be treated with utter contempt. Great location - shame about the service and food!

The food is great and the staff are really friendly. It's a really nice location to watch the world go by on a nice day with G & T or to stop off with the kids to refuel!They do an excellent chicken burger, just watch out for the seagulls!

Popped in here with some friends after the London to Brighton bike ride. Nice little bar serving a decent range of beers, friendly service too. Also has the great option of having fish and chips whilst looking out at the sea. Enjoyed a couple of beers and we shared some chips, very pleasant experience.

Not much to say it was just alright. Chips didn't seem that fresh and the tub of peas where cold in the middle Maybe it was just an off day but probably would try somewhere else next time

Great day out in Brighton with Friends and family. Can be hard to please everyone with a variety of age groups but Carousels made it easy!!Children were able to play, and had great fun on rides.Food: Vast amount of options including Vegetarian!! Fantastic, light crispy batter on the fish - probably the best I've had. Chips were not at all greasy. You won’t be disappointed!!

A special memory is created once you have been on the Carousels on the seafront followed by excellent fish and chips. A must for every visitor and for re visitor.

Arrived for a family day out.....parents and kids.....all very hungry.....had been told they do the best....thought I would I give it a try as they have plenty of space out front for us all.....and a bar for beer....and the famous carousel is great for the kids.....the food did not disappoint, very fresh and good size portions...prices are great for such a great seafront location.....couldn't recommend it highly enough!!!

Hadn't pre-planned our lunch destination. Stopped here by chance, as there were free tables (for a group of 7) in the sun. Didn't except to be impressed, given prime location. But... fish & chips were excellent. Not dripping in oil nor soggy. Fresh & tastey. Kids had chicken nuggets. Again, expected fast-food style reconstituted chicken "sponge". Instead, got deep fried chunks of chicken fillet. Wish I'd ordered them myself!

We wanted fish and chips on the sea front and that is what we had! Both fish and chips were perfectly cooked. There are plenty of tables outside under parasols and despite it being busy we had no trouble finding a clean table. It was a pain to have a 50p card charge as I don't know many places that do that anymore.

This is the third year my husband and I have returned to Carousels which is situated in the perfect location of Brighton seafront. The vintage carousel itself was basked in happy children riding the well maintained horses. The service as always was fast, staff extremely friendly especially and the crispy battered fish and chips was second to none. It is value for money with good portion sizes. We will definitely returning next year.

Carousels is a brilliant fun place with something for all the family. Fresh cooked fish and chips everyday. With an inbuilt bar with some very attractive staff. It also features rides for kids and an old vintage penny arcade. 5* would recommend to anyone locals or tourists. :)

Trip: Staying in Brighton for the week with a close friend. Since I hadn't been to Brighton in over ten years, we decided to do a couple of touristy things whilst I was here. I was really craving fish and chips and we happened to pass by this place, which had at least one veggie option for my friend. Environment: It's very well located. There was plenty of seating, but the tables clearly hadn't seen a wipe in a couple of hours. There's a neat little vintage arcade next door that I do recommend you pop into. There is a vintage merry go round right in front of it, which I guess is the takeaway's namesake. Food: The portions sizes were smaller than I'm used to, and the fish & chips were not prepared fresh at all. The skin was left on the fish, which I understand is unpleasant for some, though I personally like it. I had a little curry sauce as well, although a pound for a little cap of cheap-tasting sauce left a bitter taste in my mouth. My dish was nothing to write home about at all. The veggie burger my friend had was much worse. I understand not catering to vegetarians much at a seaside outlet, but the veggie burger was ridiculous. It was a Tesco value vegetable slice with plasticky (probably Tesco value) cheese. When asked if he wanted salad with the burger, my friend said yes and was given barely enough for a single lettuce leaf. Come on, people. Price: Prices were average, cheaper than where I live normally, certainly. However, they add a 50p charge for all card transactions. For a small company, I can understand imposing this charge on customers for small transactions. However, this place evidently isn't struggling, and adding that charge for any card transaction at all is basically free money for the company. Nobody likes giving their hard-earned money away for nothing. Service: Surly, minimal, rude. Conclusion: The only thing good about the place are its location, and the fact that it's right next to a charming vintage arcade (to its right) and a merry-go-round. Recommendation: Local or tourist, don't eat here, just look around. There are so many other nicer eating establishments around that aren't greedy money-grubbing goblins.

Lovely food with even better staff. The food is always so nice deffo top quality. The setting is perfect in the summer with the carousels and it being smack bang in the middle of Brighton beach. They have recently refurbed and it looks so cool and proper British. My favourite thing about this place is the staff they're always so funny and friendly I go every year without fail :)

Having lived by the Sussex seaside for 30 years before moving to London, we were really looking forward to some 'proper' fish & chips by the sea when we re-visited Brighton for the day. The tables were dirty, the server very surly, the fish portions were very small (& had skin left on) & the chips were barely edible; they would have benefitted from another couple of minutes in the fryer. So although the chip portions were also small, this turned out to be a good thing! I've reviewed this place as Poor purely because what little fish we did have was ok - the batter was quite crispy too - otherwise it would have been rated as Terrible. But we came home feeling very disappointed with our fish 'n chip supper by-the-sea & couldn't (wouldn't!) recommend this place to anyone.

Gave this another chance on a busy Saturday when there were plenty of tourist around so expected fish to be fresh and hot. Unfortunately the batter was soggy and limp and only lukewarm. This is an excellent position and the fish should be much better. Such a shame.

Hugely overpriced, substandard food.Such a shame to be offering tourists such a poor quality Fish and Chips. They simply don't deserve the location they have. The quicker someone who cares about food quality and customer service takes over from these charlatans, the better.
