Caprice Restaurant in Reading

In the rural village I grew up the hotel used to have the best restaurant around. The last couple of years, many hotel restaurants seem to have gone down the “airplane” type food road where especially curry dishes seem to have been bought from the “dish prepared in a microwave fridge” from the nearest supermarket. The curry dishes over here were actually really enjoyable and would give many of the dedicated curry houses visited a run for their money.

Delicious food, great service and lovely restaurant. My only slight complaint is the portions were a little small.

Myself and partner had the 3 course meal for my birthday treat. It was very disappointing. The chicken liver pâté tasted straight out of a tin and so salty made me feel sick. The steak was fat with a tiny bit of meat. The desert was so sickly after 1 bite you were done. The couple next to us agreed and thought the food was also disappointing. We did not enjoy one dish. It’s a huge shame. We had extra costs included.. even for sauce which was odd as who has steak with no sauce?! Really disappointing and would not recommend. Would also like to say that whilst speaking to others that evening they also agreed that the food was ‘disgusting’’

Bfast selection was good. Cammy was simply amazing. I had some health issues during my trip and she ensured everything for me was perfect every time!

The breakfast closed at 11am and we just missed it! But the staff, Cammy and Darlo, were absolute heros and got my friends and I bacon baps!

Food was delicious, all staff very friendly and perfect service from Ilda and Will, would definitely come back again!

The food quality was not as good as in a previous visit some months ago. My pork dish was nice enough but not a patch on a similar dish I had eaten there earlier in April. I was expecting the same dish, but was disappointed. My husband said each of the duck pieces on his dish had a very different flavour. Curious, he asked the waitress if they were two different cuts of duck, but she never came back with an answer to his query. My son's chicken "nuggets" were overcooked and dry. I also thought that charging £6.50 for just the two slices of garlic bread from the kids menu starter was very cheeky. Aircon felt very cold at the time we were there too. Friendly staff to be fair, but we'll probably give it a miss next time because of the drop in food quality on this visit.

Evening meal. Greetings were fine. Staff rushing around everywhere and whispering to each other did not give a relaxing atmosphere at all. My wife and I both opted for the Indian set menu for £42 each, considering the quality and service was very expensive. We both opted for the Lamb Seekh Kebab, which was disgusting and taseless. It was about the quality of a dry contents blister pack from one of the lesser supermarkets. Only ate it because we had not eaten all day and were afraid that any other starter offered would be worse. I ordered a beer when we ordered the food and I saw my drink appear on the side of the serving area of the bar and it was delivered at the end of finishing my first course some 15 minutes of continual viewing without any prior movement!! Second course was better but still dissappointing. They have lost the plot after being awarded AA two rosettes. £91 with printed request for the full tip tip, tap water for two, one beer and a terrible meal. Will not return.

The afternoon tea was very nice. The scones were the stars of show being light, fluffy and warm. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Really good quality breakfast, lots of choice, would recommend. Staff are also very friendly and helpful including Marco and the other waitors.

The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. However, one waiter appeared to not understand English and we had to point at the menu so he understood our order. I would also prefer to make my own decision about whether to tip or not so having the “discretionary tip” included was embarrassing if we’d wanted it removing. Altogether though the experience was a good one.

Amazing food fish and chips and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. Never had a pudding like it awesome defo come back for more

Visited the restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime for a birthday celebration. I chose this restaurant as it is a 2 AA Rosette rating but unfortunately this did not come through in the food or the service. The restaurant was very quiet. The serving staff were pleasant but the service was not what I expected; I had to ask again for a drink that had been ordered but not served, one of the party had a steak but was not given a steak knife, and the desert plates were not cleared and I had to go and ask for the bill, which I paid whilst still surrounded by finished plates. The table was not cleaned between courses. The food was nice enough but on the starters there was a side salad of plan lettuce with some other veg, no dressing and the lettuce was in quite big chunks. Not what I was expecting from 2 AA Rosette dining. The desert however was delicious. Note that the hotel website mentions a Sunday lunch menu but this was not available. Overall a bit underwhelmed by the experience.

Busy Friday night but too many people crammed into the lower tier restaurant meaning the tables were on top of each other. To me, this is bad management given the total number of tables available. Does the manager feel that we all want to listen to the next table?? Food, we choose the Indian 2 courses for £34, was ok with good starters but mediocre chicken curry with lots of sauce and little chicken. This could have been so much better.

It was surprising to find a restaurant of this calibre at a chain hotel. The food was delicious.

The food quality and presentation were excellent. The service was very good. The dining room did lack atmosphere - very grey and sterile, although the seating was comfortable.

Very poor experience unfortunately. Took 30mins before drinks arrived and left one hour 20mins after arriving as even the starters had not arrived. Very poor and minimal vegetarian options despite being told on the phone that there were many options across their 3 menus. Very odd selection of dishes with cottage cheese and goats cheese which at the best of times are not popular cheeses.

Great staff ( special shout out to Robert & Ilda)) great place and atmosphere ( loved the booth) and of course great food. Loved the classic British and Indian ( classic British as well?) mix and especially glad you can mix and match the fixed menus. Great evening thanks

I was very pleased with the service I’ve received during my stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Every member of staff took their time to accommodate my requests but special thanks to Paula in the breakfast room for her kindness and showing me different breakfast...

Right from the start we were made so welcome . The whole team from reception to the waiters were fantastic. If you stay and lucky enough to get a waiter called SHAHRY you are in for a great time. The food was so so good...

Wow what more can I say, ignore any reviews that slate the staff we’ve had nothing but professional, happy polite customer service, they’ve all been great and when they first see that I was in pain with a bad back they couldn’t off been more...

The worst meal I've had in 5 years. Really bad, I have no idea how this place has won awards. Our waiter was awful as well, it took 20 minutes to get our drinks at the start and my girlfriend received a cocktail with lipstip marks on the glass. They then got the bill wrong and tried to charge us for more items than we ordered.

As it was lunchtime the restaurant and guys at front of hse etc appeared not to be switched on Im guessing they don’t normally do Many covers for Lunch . It was like they were in shock that I was there Shame

Here with work. Although prices were a little steep the quality of the food was extremely good. The restaurant atmosphere was very welcoming. The staff were very attentive especially Ilda and James.

Modern, atmospheric restaurant and good service. Although we were the only table. The menu was not as listed on opentable and was a standard gastro-pub menu at upmarket central London prices (£18 for shepherd's pie). I would not consider eating here again.

Booked on open table as we loved the menu. But the restaurant running limited menu which isn't mentioned. We were given no wine/drinks list. Food was good prices high for what it is. Two tables down was cleaned with just a cloth no disinfectant spray...

The food available was nice and tasty, but for the prices the portion sizes for all courses were very small. The vegetarian & vegan options were limited, and the burger option listed on the menu, the restaurant had completely ran out of, which meant there was one vegan main option or a vegan salad! I understand things run out but we specifically booked because it was a recommended vegetarian/vegan options restaurant. We had also left a note on the booking we would need vegetarian and vegan options, this is why it was disappointing when you see there was a very limited choice.

After going back to the restaurant since lockdown, unfortunately the food wasn’t up to the standards expected. There were hardly any staff available to attend to us, we had to get up to get service. The nachos were bond cold and the cheese was stuck...

Después de haberlo revisado una noche a principios de año, estábamos ansiosos por nuestro paquete de comida de Navidad: dos desayunos, dos cenas y una cena de Navidad. Los desayunos eran muy buenos, con mucha variedad La comida de Nochebuena era de un menú limitado, pero aún así fue de lo más agradable. Apenas teníamos espacio para una cena el día de Navidad, así que pedimos solo dos entrantes y dos guarniciones. Incluso entonces, prevaleció la discreción y pedimos una Doggy Bag por lo que no pudimos terminar.Pero el evento principal fue el almuerzo del día de Navidad. Comenzó brillantemente con vieiras crudas marinadas y fue seguido por un Velout de castaña igualmente agradable. Hubo un gran retraso entre los cursos y supongo que eso nos ayudó a abordar un plato lleno de Turkey Ballontine. Era un almuerzo de pavo de Navidad bastante estándar, excepto que era una losa de pechuga de pavo de 2 centímetros de grosor en lugar de carne de pechuga y pierna tallada y SIN SALGAS. No todos son fanáticos de los brotes, pero nos gustan y especialmente para el almuerzo de Navidad. Con las brechas entre los cursos, estábamos en una segunda botella de vino cuando llegó el pudín de Navidad.La carta de vinos completa se ofreció en el almuerzo y la cena del día de Navidad; en la víspera de Navidad solo se nos ofreció la lista limitada de "comidas en el bar". La lista completa tiene una amplia selección, pero ninguno de los que sirven parecía saber mucho sobre los vinos. También hay un aumento considerable en los precios, pero eso no es inusual. Dada la calidad de los dos rosetones AA de la comida, parece que les falta un truco para no tener a alguien apasionado por los vinos. Entonces quizás nos hubieran servido vino blanco directamente de la nevera.Dicho esto, el servicio en la mesa fue excelente, mención especial para Kriszta y James. Ocasionalmente vamos a mostrar en Londres y luego cenamos. Con el cine Showcase de enfrente, puede tener un espectáculo y una comida a una fracción del costo y no tener prisa por tomar un tren lleno de gente a casa después.

The service was way too slow. You could tell there was not enough waiters. Wait time was about 40 minutes between courses which was very poor

A lovely meal during a spa weekend. The restaurant offers a lovely mix of indian and european menus. The food was delicious and the staff were extremely helpful, which led to a lovely evening. Would recommend this restaurant and hotel.

I don't associate hotel chains like the Holiday Inns with fine dining, but I now have to reset my ideas. The quality of the dishes and their presentation was excellent. The service was first class and the wine was good value.We only wanted a light evening meal, so spurned the dinner set menu and chose three starters from the a la carte for the two of us. What we had put in front of us far exceeded our expectations. There was a slight hitch with the order, as one of the first three we chose had sold out. Never mind, the recommended replacement of the foie gras was delicious, as were the scallops. The wine selection offered is minimal, and red, white and rose are all £23. Hey ho, the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc white we chose was very acceptable. There's a chargeable car park under the hotel, but spend over £10 and you get out free. It seems most of their clients are hotel residents. We have booked for their Christmas Eve to Boxing day package and are looking forward to it.

An enjoyable evening meal with a choice of high class food. Service was amazing and food superb. Will be back again!

I have been for many afternoon teas and due to being gluten intolerant I can honestly say its hit and miss to what the meal comes out like. I have been to fairly posh hotels and had a slice of bread, no butter and one slice of ham, no scones and one chocolate pudding. I have now been to your restaurant twice as the cream tea is totally amazing. Everything about it was delicious. In fact you would not have known mine was different from my friends. The sandwiches were so fresh, the scones to die for and the rest of it was so delicious i ate the whole lot. Thank you so much, its such a blessing to be able to have such a nice lunch time treat. The waitress was so friendly and nothing was to much trouble. In fact everyone was super friendly, the spa staff, waitress, receptionist, it was such a pleasant and enjoyable day out. Thank you

The food was quite exceptional for a hotel restaurant and overall, the service was flawless bar one server.

Whilst the food was good a birthday meal with friends was ruined by an issue with our waitress that was not addressed satisfactorily when raised at the time. A subsequent email has not received a reply. We will not be returning and feel aggrieved at paying nearly £100 for an unpleasant experience.

This was our sixth visit and both menu & service never fail to deliver. Quiet, relaxing, clean, attentive staff, wonderful food full of surprises, colour, flavours and design. Highly recommend.

Nos impresionó el Caprice desde la primera noche que llegamos, 2 horas tarde del tiempo esperado debido a que un automóvil se averió en el M 4. En cuestión de minutos se proporcionó una excelente comida fresca y muy sabrosa. Las noches posteriores la comida era igual de buena y el servicio fue excepcional, atento y eficiente sin ser intrusivo. Muy recomendado.

Had an absolutely amazing and relaxing time in the spa followed by a beautiful 3 course meal. The food was incredible and the service was great, especially Mohammed at reception and Manoj in the restaurant. Could not fault it one bit !

Reservamos una mesa para celebrar nuestro 15 aniversario de boda. Toda la experiencia cayó por debajo de las expectativas. Cuando llegamos después de esperar 10 minutos para que nos sentaran (varios empleados pasaban junto a nosotros y se formaba una cola detrás) para encontrar nuestra reserva allí. Mesa disponible, pero el personal no tenía ni idea de que teníamos una Celebración. Disfrutamos del pan y los entrantes. Excelente relación calidad-precio y buen vino. El plato principal de cordero fue muy decepcionante, era frío y bastante sin sabor, había estado dando vueltas en la cocina, supongo. Postres muy, muy agradable. Una pena que el plato principal no coincidiera con los otros dos platos y el comienzo tembloroso de la noche puso toda la noche en la ranura incorrecta.

Mi hijo me compró un almuerzo de dos platos y un día de spa para el Día de la Madre. ¡Dia Fabuloso! ! La comida fue increíble. Tuve el plato de bacalao como plato principal y un postre indio. ¡Todo lo que puedo decir es: Guau! Ciertamente allá arriba con 'las mejores comidas que he tenido'.

Ho cenato in questo ristorante ed è stata una discreta esperienza, perché il cibo è di buona qualità e la preparazione è discreta. Il servizio cordiale anche se potrebbe essere un po' più attento. Non è possibile che un sera ci sia il menu completo (vedi la carta) e tutte le altre sere solo il menu del bar con un lista limitata di piatti…ho chiesto il perché e mi è stato risposto che dipende dalla disponibilità della cucina...ma….Rapporto qualità presso assolutamente buono.

Good presentation, good quality, food not as tasty as expected.

We had a business lunch at Caprice and were all impressed with their menu. I had one of the best Caesar Salads in a very long time. And their pastries are simply divine.

We want to thank James at the Caprice Restaurant for his excellent customer service. He listened very carefully at our dietary requirements and even took a list I carry of food intolerances to the chef. We felt confident he understood our issues as his sister is a coeliac.

Caprice is part of the Holiday Inn hotel just off the M4 motorway. I visit this area for work often and always eat here. I have never had a bad meal and the service is always prompt attentive, but not too attentive. At the end of a long day at work just what is needed.

Tenía una comida de tres platos en este restaurante del hotel y estaba delicioso. Tengo el pollo tikka indio para comenzar seguido de mi plato de cordero con arroz pilau regado con una pinta de sidra. La comida era muy sabrosa y muy abundante porque primero te traían diferentes rebanadas de pan con tres ollas de aceite de oliva virgen extra, cada uno tenía diferentes cosas, 1 tenía chiles verdes, uno tenía aceitunas y el tercero tenía romero. El arroz estaba cocinado a la perfección, al igual que el cordero, pero no pude terminarlo todo y tuve que pasárselo a mi marido. Mi marido tenía espárragos para empezar en una cama de champiñones y ensalada, seguido de un plato principal de filete de bacalao con royals de Jersey y algas marinas que disfrutó mucho. Estaba demasiado lleno para tener un desierto, pero él tenía un postre de tarta de fresas que dijo que era muy agradable y el personal lo sorprendió con un desierto más pequeño adornado con fresas y escrito de Feliz cumpleaños. Por último, pero no menos importante, el personal cuenta con un excelente servicio de atención al cliente, por lo que no le presionarán como si estuvieran disfrutando de su trabajo, lo que causa una gran impresión. Muchas gracias por su cálida bienvenida en el restaurante y 4 gracias por el amable gesto de cumpleaños de mi esposo.

We went went for the 2 course set menu and I also ordered the pigeon starter from the a la carte menu. The pigeon was marvelous. Great presentation and well balanced flavours. She had the cured salmon. Interesting use of the champagne sorbet. Never had something freezing cold as part of starter before but that worked! For mains I had the chicken breast and she hand the lamb. Her lamb was delicious. Again fantastic use of textures, this time the crunchy pecan granola. Unfortunately for me, the chicken was not as appetizing. While the flavours on the plate worked well together, the chicken by itself was extremely salty to taste, almost as if it was cured in salt. It was real shame as apart from that it was actually really juicy and succulent. The dessert was nothing to write home about. The lemmon posset was well executed but lacked imagination. The service after the dessert was a bit slow but this is understandable given the time of the evening. All in all it was ok, the place definitely has great potential. I just hope the chef tastes that chicken next time before it goes out of the pass!

I can highly recommend having dinner here and especially the curry dishes are world class and extremely tasty. Also the service is outstanding, I was served tonight by Sergio who was a truly cheerful and wonderful host who made sure I had a great evening.

I had lunch there on Wed 3rd April. We ate from the a la carte menu. The food was delicious, the service friendly and professional and the restaurant v comfortable. It was my birthday and the chef made me a special small desert, which was a nice touch and much appreciated. I would thoroughly recommend.

It’s no surprise that this restaurant is a holder of a certificate of excellence! Came here for lunch as part of a groupon spa day experience and it has to be said that it was the lunch that made the day superb! Very good service by all the staff, food was excellent, husband said his curry was one of the best he has ever had, my chicken was fabulous, very moist and very tasty. Chocolate cake was a tad underwhelming but the accompanying garnishes on it made up for that. The only reason not to give a 5 star rating was the above and had a bit of a wait for main course, we were a tad on a tight time frame because of treatments booked straight after lunch. Will definitely go again even if we miss out the spa!

I visited Caprice for a business lunch and was very impressed. The restaurant is accessed through the hotel lobby which is very clean and bright with helpful staff.

He comido en algunos restaurantes de los hoteles Holiday Inn a lo largo de los años, a menudo son bastante pobres. Sin embargo, me complace decir que este es bastante decente. Me apetecía una comida vegetariana para un cambio, así que tenía la sopa y el risotto y ambos eran excelentes. Tienen dos rosetas otorgadas por los últimos 3 a 4 años, por lo que obviamente están haciendo algo bien, un costo de dos cursos alrededor de 25 sin alcohol

Tuvimos una comida de 3 platos como parte de un paquete de día de spa en el Holiday Inn, ¡y qué comida tan deliciosa fue! Fue la mejor comida de restaurante que he tenido en mucho tiempo. Delicioso y perfectamente presentado, con una combinación experta de sabores e ingredientes. Calidad sobre cantidad, pero todavía la cantidad justa para que nos vayamos sintiéndonos completamente satisfechos. El personal (Natalia y Bharat) fue extremadamente atento y servicial, logrando el equilibrio en el momento perfecto entre un servicio eficiente y una experiencia relajada. Incluso si no eres local, definitivamente vale la pena salir de tu manera de comer aquí.
