Malmaison in Reading

If you want a location near Reading train station, you can't do much better as it's right opposite. The room itself was very small, I wasn't in it much, so it was fine. I will say this there was a drainage smell in the shower, which wasn't very nice and also the wifi was massively slow and that was with just one device connected. Both problems reported to reception. I was offered to not have my room cleaned for a drink voucher up to £7.50, was annoying that someone cleaned my room as I would have put my stuff in my case as I don't like people touching it. I reported this to reception as well. Something to beware of if you are offered the same. I don't think it's worth the price, but it's not a bad hotel and the bar is quiet but pricey!

Me and my family stayed there Saturday and Sunday and we had a lovely experience the atmosphere of the hotel makes you instantly relaxed and the hotel rooms were beautiful The only problem we had was the lamps in our room they were very difficult to turn on and there was no instructions on how to turn them on , Susana and loana were more then helpful during breakfast service , Susana helped me carry cups of juice once she saw I had great difficulty carrying them im grateful that for that and she also showed me how the hot water for the tea works and I appreciate that a lot , both of those ladies during breakfast service were stars Lack on transparency between the staff and customers unfortunately let it down a bit and there was some information that was left out that we the customers should of known but wasn’t told which in turn left us to pay for things we didn’t expect that we had to pay for

Great little find for a business meeting. Large bar area, and restaurant open to visitors. Staff were wonderfully polite and accommodating.

I called to book on Monday morning (needed clarification as we had specific requirements for the rooms, for a group of 6). On hold for 5 minutes, then the call dropped. Called back, same result. Third time lucky, got through to a guy who quoted nearly £600 for two rooms for one night -- more than the prices on the website. Is this how you treat your guests? Recommend staying at the Travelodge for half the price.

My wife and I booked the bar, restaurant and a number of hotel rooms for a family get-together (both sides) to celebrate my 40th and couldn't have asked for more. Really helpful communications in the run-up, ensuring everything was sorted well in advance, and very friendly and attentive service from everyone on the night itself. They even sorted a little birthday surprise for me, which was really sweet. Lovely venue, too - stylish but relaxed and not at all pretentious, nice spacious bar and restaurant area, top-notch food, comfy rooms, etc etc etc. Definitely recommend.

Ideal location for a spot of luxury during a stay in Reading. I stayed during a public holiday so most people were visiting elsewhere, so the hotel was not busy. Used the bar, the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal and can't fault the staff, service or quality of food and drink. I stayed in a suite which was certainly worth the extra cost, aside from a rumbling from the inner workings of the hotel heating or water system in the roof, the stay was faultless.

I booked this hotel primarily because of it's so close to the train station but I was delighted by the quality of whole package. The room was clean, spacious and welcoming, the food at the bar in the evening and breakfast in the morning were superb and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Anna, her friendly professionalism is a credit to her employer - somebody give that lady a pay rise 👍

Great hotel, brasserie and bar, perfectly placed for the town centre and train station

Took my friend here for her 60th birthday treat. We had the higher priced afternoon tea with a glass of bubbles. Loved the tea box filled and left for the duration of our visit. Staff were polite, not overly in your face (impressive considering we were the only ones in the restaurant on Wednesday) and always on hand when we needed more hot water etc. I was impressed that the waitress took me to the toilet rather than give a load of convoluted instructions. Toilet was clean with loo roll and working locks. (Unheard of to generally get all 3 together in reading!) I have an allergy and was impressed at the level of care taken to avoid any mishaps. Food was tasty, good value and excellent quality. We will definitely be back.

Close to the Reading Station, the hotel has a fun eccentric vibe to it. The room was a little dark for my liking but well maintained. I enjoyed the happy hour and food in the bar. Great cocktails!

Honest hotel review: Booked a junior suite for the night as a birthday treat. First impressions are it's a beautiful big building, in a great location next to the station (parking for 24 hours £25) in the long stay carpark. Easy check in and complimentary glass of prosecco each at the bar. We stayed in the flying Scotsman on the top floor and we were very impressed by the size of the room. Excellent space for a small living area, king bed, double sink bathroom and a wardrobe and desk. Ideal for a night in which is what we wanted. The bed was comfortable, lots of little extras like a coffee machine, chocolates, toiletries and a mini bar if you wanted any more drinks or snacks. I believe the hotel also did room service. The bed was comfortable, however the room was a little stuffy and despite having the AC on at 16 the room still remained warm, a little too warm to sleep. I opened the windows and unfortunately because of the location the room was filled with the smell of greasy take aways from the kitchen which must have been situated below. The lighting didn't work on one side of the suite, but it wasn't any trouble as there are plenty of lamps on the other side and main light. Big enough telly with plenty of freeview channels. Breakfast included which was great hot drinks machine, Continental breakfast and a choice from the hot breakfast menu. All in all a very pleasant stay at The Malmaison.

I would not recommend this hotel iv checked in last night for 1 day i told theme am staying till 14.00 Their house keeper should be aware to not disturb if the guest is inside sleeping this hotel crew is useless they walked into my room without knocking or any thing while i was naked inside just Bcoz they have your room key they just walk in as they please Thats the most unprofessional embarrassing situation i was in .their excuse was They didn't read the room number correct beside that u should knock on the doors before walking 😡😡😡😡 This hotel will invade your privacy

We visited Malmaison today for an afternoon tea to celebrate a colleague’s retirement. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a friendly staff and Yvette who introduced herself as she would be looking after us. The quality and variety of the food on offer for the tea was excellent! Yvette was more than attentive and made sure we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. The tea represented good value for money and we left full up and with ‘doggy-bags’ to take home! Definitely recommend 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Had a lovely afternoon tea here. The savoury items were amazing - the cakes and desserts were also amazing! Scones we warmed up which is a great touch Lots of different teas to choose from. Afternoon Tea with my friend, to celebrate the end of January. What a lovely way to spend sometime on a Saturday afternoon. Yvette was delightful and helpful, as well as charming and chatty. The food was plentiful and rather delicious. I ate it all! Lots of lovely Taylors Teas to chose from as well, soo plenty of variety. Definately recommend, excellent value.

Popped into the Malmaison Bar in Reading for pre-Christmas drinks with the Team. Yvette was amazing, very welcoming, attentive and made us all chuckle. Great service, and I loved the ambience! Thanks Team!

Disappointed in the whole experience, had enjoyed previous malmaison visits but the changes to the restaurant made the meal Miserable. We booked a 3 course set menu as we were staying only to find out that there is a head office directive that prohibits any changes to dishes . Because of my dietary restrictions and this rule the only option I was initially offered was a steak with a massive supplement . As am not a red meat fan, I was hoping for the salmon without the sauce but no joy, in the end I had a burger with no bun, and a veg side. The only redeeming feature was the staff who tried to be as helpful as possible with their hands tied. At some point I was also asked to sign a price of paper which was meant to be some kind of waiver but wasn’t anything that could be considered legal. I won’t be going back and I would discourage anyone with any allergies or intolerances to go elsewhere

Excellent experience. Would highly recommend the Malmaison restaurant. We arrived slightly earlier than we booked, but were seated promptly. The staff were really attentive. We had questions on the menu and no question was too much for the staff, they were well versed on all the dishes. Cocktails were amazing and the wine recommendation worked perfectly with our main courses. The vanilla crème brulee I can highly recommend, although it was to big for me to finish after my steak. The restaurant had a really relaxing and cosy atmosphere to it. I would definitely recommend and will return.

The Bar & Grill had a good set, pleasant feeling (although dark), service was attentive and the food typical (better than most pubs) and not bad but not great and as expected.

My second time staying at this wonderful hotel. Fabulous, convenient location. Exceptional staff. Nothing is too much of an effort for them. Their customer service is brilliant. We especially liked the breakfast. Anna and Matt working the floor couldn’t be more attentive. Looking forward to making this hotel a regular stop in my travels.

This is a lovely place to swing by for a drink or bite to eat. The team working behind the bar are always on hand to help, give advice and have a good chat with. Alana, Yvette and Anna are absolutely awesome and excellent ambassadors of the company. The atmosphere is relaxed and classy, and the food is lovely. Great place!

A warm welcome by the Mal team., especially Dianne upon arrival at reception. Yvette looked after us in the brasserie with warmth and friendliness of long lost friends. We dined in the restaurant for two dinners across the weekend. Yvette was full of menu recommendations and attentive to our needs. Thank you Yvette, a real asset to Chez Mal and clearly running a friendly, welcoming and efficient team!

The food was fine but ordering my meal - I’m gluten intolerant and have a slight nut allergy - was challenging. The menu doesn’t always mention when nuts are present; my husband chose a starter which was marked as could be adjusted to be gluten free but had nuts in it which weren’t mentioned on the menu. Several items which stated they were gluten free or could be adjusted, I was then told I couldn’t have. And the main course I ended up with (fish cake which was very nice) wasn’t marked as gluten free at all. It was a nice meal but the menu needs to be sorted out and corrected.

First visit here and instantly felt welcomed by Paolo. Restaurant has beautiful decor and romantic setting. The food was cooked and prepared to a high standard. The steak and chicken tikka masala followed by creme brulee was so enjoyable. The waiter Paolo gave excellent customer service from start to finish and ensured our evening was special. We will definitely recommend.

We stayed at Malmaison for the weekend a couple of months ago. Lovely hotel in a great location opposite Reading Station, minutes from the many restaurants, pubs and bars of the town centre. Room was very comfortable and price was good especially on a weekend rate. We slept really well both nights. The only negative were the silly prices in the hotel bar. We’re no stranger to hotel bars in general but we wouldn’t be happy paying those prices in London let alone here, come on guys, no offence but this is Reading! Overall though, a very pleasant stay indeed! We visit Reading often and would happily stay here again. Iain, London

I am a big fan of MalMaison so when the opportunity came I booked a club room with dinner and breakfast My thoughts The dining room is cluttered . Way way too many tables squeezed into the space . This was early but Halloween is party night but it felt vast and impersonal The service was not to the standard I expect There was one fairly competent waiter and another lad who obviously was learning They asked me ….eventually… if I wanted water … I said no thanks just a glass of house wine 5 minutes later … no wine and another request if I wanted water … no thank you can I have my wine please ….. 5 minutes Do I want small or large glass and would you like water with that I then after 20 minutes had to flag down the waiter to take my order … 20 minutes is fine for a romantic couple chatting but a solo diner is there to eat Same long delay between courses !!! Please malmaison think about soli diners and pay attention I had excellent salt and pepper calamari and spread batter over my table …. Impossible not to The waiter took my dishes …. And left the crumbs which I the end out of my boredom waiting for a nice but uneven and only warm steak … rare edges medium centre …. I cleaned the table myself and left without dessert or finishing my wine feeling let down by a lovely brand
