Malmaison in Reading

We hired the brasserie for a birthday celebration and would like to comment on the fantastic friendly and professional service from Yvette and the team. Great venue for such a party and felt very well organised on the night and well looked after. Thank you

Nice hotel conveniently located and walking distance from the train station and the town centre. The good things about the hotel. 1) Comfortable bed and pillows unlike the grand hotel in Brighton which had very uncomfortable pillows. 2) nice size bathroom with shower gels provided. 3) Nice selection of complimentary tea and coffee bags. 4) Provided with a fan. 5) bar area to relax in 6) friendly staff The bad things about the hotel 1) expensive for what you get 2) I don't like the idea of the checking in time being so late at 3 pm and having to leave so early in the morning at 11 am. 3) Air conditioning wasn't working. 4) No fridge in the room or complimentary bottles of water.

As a regular visitor, I usually enjoy the exceptional service that makes the venue feel like a four or five-star establishment. However, today's experience was quite disappointing. The atmosphere felt cold and unfriendly, and I was immediately directed to pay without anyone offering to come to my table or give me a few minutes. Additionally, the receptionist was abrupt and blamed me for not paying earlier. I would have been happy to pay upon entrance if that was preferred, but being told I had to pay instantly felt very unwelcoming.

This place never fails to impress me, between the decor and vibe, the food and most importantly the staff. We had one of the private dining rooms for a surprise birthday party. Everyone was super impressed by the place in itself, but the food was delicious and substantial. We were looked after for the evening (and breakfast the next morning), by Yvette. She was incredibly helpful and professional, plus she helped get the party going with her infectious personality. She has been there for 17yrs, and you can see why, everyone at both the hotel, restaurant and bar are so warm and friendly, and despite this place looking looking quite upmarket, everyone is is welcomed with the same warmth. We also stayed the night. The rooms are so cosy, clean and gorgeously decorated. I will definitely be going back.

I came here with a client and had low expectations. I’d stayed at the hotel the week before but didn’t eat here. I chose Malmaison because it was both close to the train station and my client’s office, so ideal location. Upon our arrival, our server, Yvette (hope I spelt that correctly) greeted us with a friendly smile and seated us early as we’d arrived a 15 minutes before our booking. I’d just like to say that both the food and the service here was impeccable. Yvette was very attentive and super friendly. Everything was cooked to perfection and we were able to have a very productive and enjoyable business meeting.

Good food and great value but best of all, fantastic friendly and professional service from Yvette. Always good to see her when we visit and nice to have the consistent familiarity. We will be back!

If you want a location near Reading train station, you can't do much better as it's right opposite. The room itself was very small, I wasn't in it much, so it was fine. I will say this there was a drainage smell in the shower, which wasn't very nice and also the wifi was massively slow and that was with just one device connected. Both problems reported to reception. I was offered to not have my room cleaned for a drink voucher up to £7.50, was annoying that someone cleaned my room as I would have put my stuff in my case as I don't like people touching it. I reported this to reception as well. Something to beware of if you are offered the same. I don't think it's worth the price, but it's not a bad hotel and the bar is quiet but pricey!

Me and my family stayed there Saturday and Sunday and we had a lovely experience the atmosphere of the hotel makes you instantly relaxed and the hotel rooms were beautiful The only problem we had was the lamps in our room they were very difficult to turn on and there was no instructions on how to turn them on , Susana and loana were more then helpful during breakfast service , Susana helped me carry cups of juice once she saw I had great difficulty carrying them im grateful that for that and she also showed me how the hot water for the tea works and I appreciate that a lot , both of those ladies during breakfast service were stars Lack on transparency between the staff and customers unfortunately let it down a bit and there was some information that was left out that we the customers should of known but wasn’t told which in turn left us to pay for things we didn’t expect that we had to pay for

Great little find for a business meeting. Large bar area, and restaurant open to visitors. Staff were wonderfully polite and accommodating.

I called to book on Monday morning (needed clarification as we had specific requirements for the rooms, for a group of 6). On hold for 5 minutes, then the call dropped. Called back, same result. Third time lucky, got through to a guy who quoted nearly £600 for two rooms for one night -- more than the prices on the website. Is this how you treat your guests? Recommend staying at the Travelodge for half the price.

My wife and I booked the bar, restaurant and a number of hotel rooms for a family get-together (both sides) to celebrate my 40th and couldn't have asked for more. Really helpful communications in the run-up, ensuring everything was sorted well in advance, and very friendly and attentive service from everyone on the night itself. They even sorted a little birthday surprise for me, which was really sweet. Lovely venue, too - stylish but relaxed and not at all pretentious, nice spacious bar and restaurant area, top-notch food, comfy rooms, etc etc etc. Definitely recommend.

Ideal location for a spot of luxury during a stay in Reading. I stayed during a public holiday so most people were visiting elsewhere, so the hotel was not busy. Used the bar, the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal and can't fault the staff, service or quality of food and drink. I stayed in a suite which was certainly worth the extra cost, aside from a rumbling from the inner workings of the hotel heating or water system in the roof, the stay was faultless.

I booked this hotel primarily because of it's so close to the train station but I was delighted by the quality of whole package. The room was clean, spacious and welcoming, the food at the bar in the evening and breakfast in the morning were superb and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Anna, her friendly professionalism is a credit to her employer - somebody give that lady a pay rise 👍

Great hotel, brasserie and bar, perfectly placed for the town centre and train station

Took my friend here for her 60th birthday treat. We had the higher priced afternoon tea with a glass of bubbles. Loved the tea box filled and left for the duration of our visit. Staff were polite, not overly in your face (impressive considering we were the only ones in the restaurant on Wednesday) and always on hand when we needed more hot water etc. I was impressed that the waitress took me to the toilet rather than give a load of convoluted instructions. Toilet was clean with loo roll and working locks. (Unheard of to generally get all 3 together in reading!) I have an allergy and was impressed at the level of care taken to avoid any mishaps. Food was tasty, good value and excellent quality. We will definitely be back.

Close to the Reading Station, the hotel has a fun eccentric vibe to it. The room was a little dark for my liking but well maintained. I enjoyed the happy hour and food in the bar. Great cocktails!

Honest hotel review: Booked a junior suite for the night as a birthday treat. First impressions are it's a beautiful big building, in a great location next to the station (parking for 24 hours £25) in the long stay carpark. Easy check in and complimentary glass of prosecco each at the bar. We stayed in the flying Scotsman on the top floor and we were very impressed by the size of the room. Excellent space for a small living area, king bed, double sink bathroom and a wardrobe and desk. Ideal for a night in which is what we wanted. The bed was comfortable, lots of little extras like a coffee machine, chocolates, toiletries and a mini bar if you wanted any more drinks or snacks. I believe the hotel also did room service. The bed was comfortable, however the room was a little stuffy and despite having the AC on at 16 the room still remained warm, a little too warm to sleep. I opened the windows and unfortunately because of the location the room was filled with the smell of greasy take aways from the kitchen which must have been situated below. The lighting didn't work on one side of the suite, but it wasn't any trouble as there are plenty of lamps on the other side and main light. Big enough telly with plenty of freeview channels. Breakfast included which was great hot drinks machine, Continental breakfast and a choice from the hot breakfast menu. All in all a very pleasant stay at The Malmaison.

I would not recommend this hotel iv checked in last night for 1 day i told theme am staying till 14.00 Their house keeper should be aware to not disturb if the guest is inside sleeping this hotel crew is useless they walked into my room without knocking or any thing while i was naked inside just Bcoz they have your room key they just walk in as they please Thats the most unprofessional embarrassing situation i was in .their excuse was They didn't read the room number correct beside that u should knock on the doors before walking 😡😡😡😡 This hotel will invade your privacy

We visited Malmaison today for an afternoon tea to celebrate a colleague’s retirement. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a friendly staff and Yvette who introduced herself as she would be looking after us. The quality and variety of the food on offer for the tea was excellent! Yvette was more than attentive and made sure we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. The tea represented good value for money and we left full up and with ‘doggy-bags’ to take home! Definitely recommend 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
