I'm changing my reviews from 5 to 1 star as the service was very humiliating! I went with my children in the morning for breakfast before her GCSE exam to calm her down but unfortunately totally the opposite happened. Order wasnt served and everyone order even people after us was served. I reminded her with my order she said i'll give it take away! Ok. I asked for disposable forks, she came throwing bunch of metal forks on my table! I went to say I need disposables she gave them to me very angry! I am the one who should be angry as we didn't get what we want! I was very sad and decided to go to speak to her after dropping children off to school. I told her that wasn't right and not accepted and we were very disappointed! The other girl came very rudely saying she got your point and now do you need a free drink! Is this the way to treat your mistakes! Not apologizing but giving free drinks! What a shame! We loved this place and was very convenient being next to school! But we have loads of other options now!

Tried looking for a booking for afternoon tea on their website and couldn’t find anything, arrived at the place a bit cramped but overall nice atmosphere, but claimed they couldn’t serve us because of the prep work for it. I would be more understanding if the bookings were more clearer online

Lovely little place for cake and tea. Bit of an awkward one though: I watched as two staff members greeted and pet a particularly dirty dog before returning to making coffees and handling food without cleaning their hands. This is a bit worrying for a restaurant.

Really disappointed with the Jesmond Cake Stories. No food (pastries, brunch options) left apart from cake and a half hour wait on bacon or sausage options. I understand the cafe is predominately cake but to list everything on the menu and be sold out made things quite difficult. I had my baby with me on our visit and was pleased to see highchairs but didn’t see any baby changing facilities. I had to change my baby on the toilet floor which was not pleasant! Such a shame at the Jesmond CS. Hoults Yard is miles better.

I haven't visited in about 3 years, visited today with a friend and the cakes are just as good as I remembered! Lovely small cafe, staff are all super friendly. Perfect place to sit and work, or go with a friend or two. Dog friendly seating outside at the front though it is next to a road. Seating inside is a little limited, but always has been since its so tiny... and takeout is always an option!

Very good. I was looking for a typical full English and actually very pleased to have something more healthy and the crushed avocado with a side of bacon hit the spot perfectly. Loved the coffee, and juices we had were all great. Very friendly service. Will definitely go again when we're in the area.

Went to meet a friend for a catch up over a coffee, arrived and entered and then stood at counter while staff member was preparing a coffee but absolutely no acknowledgement, I stood for about 2 minutes and thought he hadn’t seen me so I went out and came back in, same story so I just sucked it up and waited which was quite some time, got my drink and sat fown, noticed there was alcohol free Prosecco in the drinks cabinet and queried the price, they couldn’t decorated to check and said “ about £20” funny as that I’d expensive for any Prosecco, same bottle in Asda is £2.95, there’s mark up and mark up. Shame food looked lovely so was the place just needs some charisma

Went with a friend to have coffee, cake and a chat. Really nice cafe in Jesmond. Looks very inviting. Deco very nice service ok. Coffee was great. We both had cakes. My cake was just so bad, I had one mouthful and decided that I will not be able to eat such a bad quality cake. It was dry a bit burn with a thick layer of dry icing. My friend had the same experience with different cake. When the waitress came to clear the table and she saw that non of us progress after one bite she didn’t ask if there was a problem. Perhaps she knew… Great place to sit and chat have a nice coffee but please don’t attempt to eat the cakes there.

I was staying in Jesmond for a couple of weeks during a tough time in my life and this little place was such a wonderful environment to come to, a lovely warm friendly atmosphere thanks to cheerful, welcoming and helpful staff and a room of very satisfied customers. The cakes were incredible, especially the brownies and the coffees are right up there with the best. I am so grateful and thankful for all of the above for the respite and joy it brought me at a hard time. The staff probably didn't even know what a positive impact they had on me and how much it meant to me to be able to come somewhere like that during my stay. Thank you all so much and keep up the good work! I am so truly grateful. David.

Went here with a friend a few weeks ago and had a bad experience with the service. I’d been a couple of times before and it had been alright. The cakes and drinks are nice enough, if a bit expensive and the cafe is something of a rarity in that it’s open late (9pm). The girl that served us at the till charged us for 2 cakes and 2 drinks and said she would bring them to the table but then didn’t, seemingly forgetting the order. This was especially frustrating given that when we looked over to the counter for assistance she was on her phone most of the time. After around 40 minutes we asked for a refund as we had to be elsewhere but this was refused. Instead we were just given the cakes we had ordered to go - unwanted since we wanted to have it with a coffee in the cafe - and a card for 2 ‘free’ drinks - of no use since we won’t go here again.

Thought I would try out cake stories today at Hoults yard walker. Purchases a caramel brownie which was lovely. However there was nothing good to say about the Oreo cake rock hard and cream in the middle dry too. Very disappointing for a cake shop that prides itself on quality. Which you would expect for the price of £3.50 all I can say it was so hard you couldn’t put a knife through it !

Ordered a decaf coffee to sit in and take out a piece of salted caramel brownie. The decaf flavour was a bit bitter but I find that in most places tbf but i would be nice to think that hospitality venues put a bit more thought into selecting the decaf offering for its taste and enjoyment for decaf drinkers and not just as an after thought. The Salted Caramel brownie was spot on amd I enjoyed that at home. I will return not for coffee but just for the brownies. Service was friendly.

We went to this recommended coffee shop and we couldn't sit so we went to another place, the next day we went in the morning and we were lucky to get a table. After us it was a big queue for take away. The place is not very big just a few tables that makes the space comfortable. The decorations is really good, all the lamps, chairs, plates, cutlery and cups. Two girls serving coffee and I could see one more person in the kitchen. The display for cakes is really good, it was difficult to choose a cake. All the flavours and prices were easy to read. The menu has lots of choices with hot or cold drinks. Really good place to enjoy the day. We paid £15 for three coffees and one piece of cake which I think it is expensive. An extra £40 for plant based milk which should be the same price, milk is milk.

I visited Cake Stories this morning in both Hoults Yard and Jesmond. I wanted a gift voucher and Houtls Yard didn't have any, so we went to Jesmond. I was planning to buy the voucher and some cakes, but whilst we were waiting for the voucher to be processed, I watched the person making and serving drinks and food, pick a receipt from the floor, crumble it up in her hand and put it on the area where food was being served, whilst doing this she was constantly playing with her hair and preparing food and drinks. I'm sure that mixing dirty, contaminated receipts, directly with food and drink is not part of the food hygiene standards. Needless to say we didn't buy any cakes. Such a pity that the lovely cafes are let down by poor staff behaviour.

Previously whenever we headed out to Jesmond to chill we would stop by Starbucks for our coffee and cake/snack. Okay, I know, it's Starbucks, but at least with that chain you know what you're going to get. However, snooping around the socials I chanced upon Cake Stories. Yeah, I had heard of them before but never really had the urge to visit, until, one Saturday morning we decided to just go check it out. It was fairly busy when we arrived (around 10.30am ish), but we managed to find a table pretty much immediately, then we queued to grab a couple drinks and a cake to split. Price wise it was pretty much on par with other local coffee shops and also with the big chains - two drinks and a cake coming in at around a tenner or so. My Chai Latte was pretty good, as was the Flat White being enjoyed by my better half. Now, I can't remember exactly which cake we nabbed, there is a vast choice of cakeage to be had there, but I do remember it being light and fluffy, and very moreish. I haven't a clue if the cakes are bought in or if they bake them themselves, but it was good. On this single visit, this may have become our new "go to" coffee shop when hitting up Jesmond.

My wife and I made a reservation here after hearing a lot of good reviews. It was early on a Saturday evening. Hibou Blanc is divided into two separate parts - the larger area being the bar, which was heaving, even at this early hour. The restaurant is a smaller area, a little apart from the clamour of the bar. The lighting in both parts is low but the tables in the restaurant have atmospheric downlighting and the whole place has a private club style to it, with comfortable seating at the tables and Chesterfield couches in the bar. The atmosphere is therefore pleasant but there is noise from the bar and lots of hubbub from the neighbouring tables. The service was excellent. Several staff attended our table and answered questions about the food and drinks. Empty plates were quickly replaced with full ones and the staff were quick to offer help. Max was mostly at our table and he was great. The food is on the pricey end of the spectrum and we had a little of a mixed bag, though mostly good. The dishes are all well presented. My mackerel arriving in an enjoyable sauce and a side of dough bread and my wife's venison terrine looking very appealing. Both dishes were nice. My main was the fish of the day - trout and this is where my only disappointment with Hibou Blanc lies. The portion of trout - not an expensive or rare fish was tiny and the potatoes seemed undercooked to me. Thankfully, my better half had splashed out and ordered the lobster which came with some chips, she shared with me. Her lobster did look and taste very nice though and ther was enough of a portion for her. Enough to pass on some delicious chips to me. She thought the lobster was nice too. The desserts were the most enjoyable course. Though I am not usually one to eat dessert, the dark chocolate mousse with cherries and cream was delicious. My wife ordered the Almond Financier - which to our surprise and relief had nothing to do with spreadsheets or large financial operations. Both were very enjoyable.. One other thing that was great was the cocktails. We had 'Old Fashioned's - a very tasty blend of orange and Maker's Mark bourbon. Possibly the best version of this, I have ever had. It was slightly cheaper and tastier than the one I had just enjoyed at Mother Mercy's, which we had been to previous to this. We had a caraffe of Sauvignon Blanc and the final bill added to around £75 each with an automatically added service gratuity.

Brilliant all round but please get some marmalade to go with the toast. Jam for breakfast ugh! Otherwise a great experience.

Leaving a review for the pottery shop side of things, not the food; I've now had two mugs from the pottery shop at Kiln (one was a replacement for the first), both suffered cracking of the glaze on the inside within just a couple of uses (note: I only hand washed both mugs). Cracks in glaze are not food safe as they can harbour bacteria but also the mug just looks a bit crap now, which is annoying after paying quite a lot of money! The fact it has happened twice suggests an issue with the manufacturing, a real shame because they look great otherwise.

Friendly staff and nice decor, but cocktails are a bit left field!
