Caffe Nero in Waverley

Rude member of staff claimed this cafe was “a business, not a hangout spot”. Lashed out at a customer for not directly handing him the cash instead placing it on the counter, it made him feel like a “peasant”. Not the service we were expecting. Plenty of other cafes in godalming to go to.

A rude member of staff had a go at my friend who was paying with cash. The server got annoyed at her for not directly placing cash into his hand because she placed it onto the desk. He proceeded to tell her that is made him feel like a “peasant”. He then proceeded to come over to our table where we were sat and tell us that the cafe was “a business, not a hangout spot” In general not a nice experience due to the rudeness of this member of staff. There are plenty of nicer places to go in godalming than here.

Myself and my daughter visited on Saturday. It was pouring with rain. I ordered egg sandwich and my daughter has a vegetable sausage roll. We had pistachio cake and two hot chocolates . The man behind the counter was welcoming and friendly and bought our order up to us upstairs as requested.

This store has been going down hill, but last week was a new low. The place was full of flies and as we sat there we saw why. The whole place was incredibly grimy, cobwebs from floor to ceiling had ensnared many flies, piles of crumbs in the corners of floors and windows. I couldn’t wait to leave. Think I’ll be finding somewhere else for my weekly coffee stop.

I'm a regular here and it never fails to disappoint! Lovely atmosphere and downstairs is a nice quiet place to work of just relax with friends. Also a plus that they allow dogs here, love seeing all their cute faces!

Nice to be able to pop back into a Nero’s for a hot chocolate. Very sensible and safe set up with plenty of space in the Godalming cafe. Thank you. And the drinks were fab as usual.

I’m not sure whether this is the right branch but my travelling buddy assured me that it is. Will just have to take her word for it. We just arrived in Guildford from Malaysia & was about to look for a simcard. However, my friend was hungry & decided to grab a bite at Caffe Nero. I got us a table while she busied herself at the counter, checking out the food in the chiller. She finally settled on a smoked salmon sandwich with cheese, espresso brownie & a latte which she had graciously shared with me. Must say that the sandwich was good & the dessert even better! We took our time before leaving. The table was small & the brick walls grew on me. I liked the atmosphere & ambience. There were many nooks for singles, too. However, service was quite slow. I would probably visit again given the chance as one can enjoy his coffee or tea in privacy without feeling awkward.

Neros always had a good product although it depends on which the Baristas serves you. Peter the new manager,has definitely improved service levels and the general cleanliness of the store

Usual fayre. Lovely cuppa tea. Staff very friendly. Lots of seating but most upstairs. There is a rear entrance however.

Good place but the speed/standard of your drink very much depends on who serves you as some of the team aren't quite as hot as others - usually okay though and queues never too bad

Very disappointing experience when meeting a friend for coffee - place had an overall grubby appearance. Milk accompanying coffee had dark bits floating in it and the jug was chipped. Won’t be going back.

I was in line ready to order coffee when the guy serving the lady in front stuck his finger up his nose and then took down a cup. I felt sick and walked out. The place is dirty

Very pleased when Neros opened many years ago - better coffee than the other chains. And they've had some great people working there over the years. But the current staff are about as miserable as you can get - not one smile among them in my last few visits. Coffee is still good of course but that's not enough to make up for the disinterested service. Won't be going back again - there are some much better independents along the High St. where coffee is just as good and service immeasurably better.

Ogni volta che vado a Godalming se sono all'ora di pranzo in centro mi fermo per un tramezzino o un toast scaldato con una bibita e una confezione di frutta. Una cosa leggera, ma sempre buona, in un ambiente rilassante. Non prendo mai nè caffè nè cappuccino perchè per il gusto italiano non sono buoni, ma siamo in Inghilterra!

I go to a class in Godalming occasionally and always get my coffee here, and have been tempted by some of their food. I always get good service, and the usual good coffee even though I choose decaf. I recently wanted to try chi latte (no idea how it's spelled), and was given a cup for free in addition to the coffee I had purchased! Then they helped me with one of their two cup holders to take it away with me. I love this shop.

I’m usually not a Nero coffee fan but loved my cappuccino and biscotti. The café has three levels but enjoyed sitting in front to people watch. Service was great but did have to wait a while as it was packed. Staff was friendly.

Used to be fantastic but nowadays service is very slow, the cups and crockery often dirty, the toilets in poor shape and seating arrangements pitiful. Thankfully the coffee still the best in town ......so guess I will continue to visit.

Four of us enjoyed a lovely tea & pastries at this lovely cafe with a wonderful atmosphere. Great staff. Everything was scrumptious. The location is convenient too

This branch has different areas including upstairs, downstairs and outside area and is spacious and the staff are friendly with appropriate quality of food and prices as one may expect. It is a chain and so one doesn’t expect much individuality but handy for quick service and some guarantee on quality. One of the better branches of Nero I have used.

Anche questo locale rispetta gli standard della catena. In genere c'è più scelta per la colazione che per il pranzo, ma quello che abbiamo preso andava bene e poi ci ha fatto piacere trovare nel centro di questa cittadina nuova per noi un posto conosciuto e sperimentato molte volte a Londra e in varie aree della Grater London. Sei italiano cerchi un posto per bere un po’ di vero caffè italiano ma alla fine non è come immagini. Bello il locale e tanti gli italiani che lo frequentano. Comunque va bene lo consiglio.

So they allow dogs. Ok. I’m a dog owner. However... I entered the Godalming shop this week to find a huge pool of dog vomit ( and a guilty looking hound!) The owner was attempting to clean it up, assisted by a barrister. WHO THEN PROCEEDED TO COME AND MAKE MY COFFEE WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS! I had to intervene and said “I’m sorry, but gave you washed your hands?” To which he answered “good point “ and took his hand off the coffee machine and washed his hands. Floor wasn’t washed from what I could see, just cleaned with blue roll. But the lack of hand washing was awful! I will probably not be returning .

Dirty counter and card machine, shocking service I had two customers jump the the line as they were "regulars", the Fraps we ordered were sour and off plastic take aways cups were dirty ... YUCK! I will not be returning

Very nice place sip coffee at High Street, Maidenhead. You can spend time after finishing shopping with coffee.

All I wanted was a small coffee with a dash of milk (café macchiato) to take away. The unfriendly bartender would not understand (obviously he spoke poor English) and short changed me. I will avoid returning.

I'm a bit of an old fusspot when it comes to coffee. All too often it tastes like one shot of espresso and a heaped teaspoon of gravy browning, topped up with hot water. Cafe Nero is the best match to genuine Italian or French coffee. Thank goodness for that. If you know coffee, it's the only choice.

Lovely coffees and cakes. Very nice attentive staff. Comfy seats. Lovely place to take a break from shopping.

Great coffee here and Nora is an excellent manager an d extremely popular and friendly to all.Food good and a hood range of items offered. But could do with being a hit cleaner at times ......... especially when the manager is away!

Try not to review too many "chains" but think this place is worth a special mention not least because of the staff. The lady who I think is the manageress has been there a while and runs an efficient operation with everybody taking orders and making coffee unlike another chain down the road where only one does. The result here is short queues and hot coffee - oh and really good coffee too - especially the Americano that I drink which is strong without the bitter taste some have. Plenty of seating up and downstairs although best seats are in windows. Also seems to be dog friendly. I try to watch my calories but the Danish pastries are hard to resist!

Godalming is full of character and this shop is no different. Coffee is good, cakes are delicious. Tables on 3 floors, so plenty of space although it does fill up.

I regularly use this cafe and the staff are so helpful and friendly. The manager, Norah, is a delight and I am amazed how she remembers everyones name and something specific about them whenever she sees them. Well done - keep up the good work

Suggerito dal figlio, che vive a Godalming, è stata una sorpresa per la bontà del caffe! Si sà che noi italiani abbiamo un palato raffinato per questa bevanda, che adoriamo, quindi Cafe Nero mi ha conquistata!! Su tre livelli, con una piccola area esterna sul retro.. Forniti di WI-FI mi hanno subito accontentata quando ho richiesto la password dopo essermi registrata. Bravi!! Complimenti!!

Nora and her staff are great - always welcoming - and seem to remember just about everyone's name! Three different levels to the cafe, plus small outside area at back, so generally possible to find a suitable space. Coffee, being Nero's, is the best in Godalming, and food is great too. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

A Perfect Way To Start The DayMy frequent trips to beautiful Godalming always include a few visits to Caffe Nero High Street!Some mornings after we drop my little Granddaughter at nursery my daughter and I head straight there to kick start our day! Nora the manageress greets us both with a smile that would light a room.........she is so totally professional in everyway and runs the caffe like it is her own........really caring about her customers and however busy she always interested in you .......she is a very special person!Caffe Nero you are so lucky to have Nora on board.........she is one in a million!

Nice Coffee. Can take a little while to get served if busy. Staff are hit and miss. Was clean today. No view out the back but has its quiet areas upstairs and down. Lack of toilet facilities .Well air-conditioned today.Would go back. Free water a plus but no ice.

Very pleasant atmosphere and staff all very friendly. Cakes and other foodstuffs all very good and freshly served. The coffee is excellent easily the best in town.

The coffee was pretty good and the service fast and efficient. Staff not that friendly but maybe because it was pretty busy. The upstairs area is quiet.

We were visiting Godalming on a quiet afternoon and popped in for a quick coffee. On arrival all the tables near the counter were covered in used cups. I sat down when my partner got the coffees from the counter. We put serviettes on the table before the cups as we didnt want to get covered in crumbs when lifting the cups to drink . At this point there were two girls behind the counter with nobody to serve but still the tables went unwiped. As people left and more arrived the crockery piled up on all the tables. I expect better from Cafe Nero. When we next visit Godalming we'll be going to Costa.

We went into Caffe Nero today for a coffee and quick sandwich. Service was chaotic although there were several assistants behind the counter. We eventually got the coffees we ordered (they were actually offered to the lady behind us in the queue first!) but when we went to sit down the table was filthy, covered in crumbs obviously from several previous sittings, and the floor looked as though it hadn't been swept for at least a week, and washed for much longer. The coffee was quite acceptable, but oh dear! hygiene is not a priority there.

I gave second chance to this place and it was very bad. I will never go there again. It's still very dirty. Dust is everywhere, sticky tables and bad customer service.

The usual Cafe Nero experience but with extra friendly and helpful staff, albeit a little slow. Felt more like an independant cafe than part of a chain.

Always find cafe Nero strange but when I came in there was a man sat in the sofa in his pants showing his bum crack. The lady serving was blank and could not care less she messed up our order and showed no sign of apology or care

Friendly and efficient staff. Nicely kept coffee shop on three levels in a very pretty and quaint town. We were left in peace to discuss business matters.

Coffee was good here. Seating was comfortable as long as you don't look around much. Shop could use a good cleaning. Perhaps coffee to go is the best choice.

Very dirty cafe. Check behind the couches for a year of dust dirt and micro organisms. Useless WiFi and only one plug to fight over. Vacancy notices on the front door. This place should be closed

It ceases to amaze me at the current trend of not clearing tables quickly. This coffee Nero and the one in Guildford is guilty above most. I hate going into these places where you end up just stacking up coffee cups and plates so that you have room to put your cups down. We sat there thinking they will clear soon, surely soon? No. Twice I asked and still nothing. In the end I stacked everything up on the floor! Guess what? Yep, still there when we left. Do this in the USA and the staff would last about two minutes!

Mocha flake with caramel waffles, my only order! I'm sure its about 2500 calories! I like the interior of this branch. I must agree with a review below, during the week it can be a bit of a playground, but I never sit in anyway.

They do a great Mocha Coffee, just the perfect balance of coffee and chocolate. A perfect drop in cafe when shopping or meeting up with friends.

Coffee on the go should be just that, on the occasions I've used this outlet it's been coffee on the go slow, staff didn't seem motivated and that can be frustration when you have things you need to be doing and just wanted a 'quick' Coffee.

I'm hard to impress as a rule and I am not a huge fan of large chains but I was genuinely amazed by the friendly service here. Will definitely go back. Makes a pleasant change from the disengaged too cool for school brigade at Costa.

Well I came here to just check out that coffee taste and ambiance well I got it. Nice but ok, It has a lot of wooden feel of a old house and it a great place for a hang out with the family. I was greeted twice by the staff that was a nice introduction which is good they are showing that I am welcome. Coffee was very good and strong, there was a good selection of cakes and food on offer and the red velvet was nice and moist, even in the afternoon that shows that there is good rotation of fresh food even in the late afternoon on a weekend. The furniture was reasonable but there where some signs of wear and tear on the red walls. The Wifi was very ok I managed to get 2Mb down and .5 up and and even though I used it in the past the staff were very good enough to point me to the leaflet with information which is nice. I noticed also the attentiveness to some of the leaving customers the staff where saying good-bye and asking them hope to come back again Wow that was tick in the good customer guide book. There is a nice small back open area which only holds about two tables its good when its warmer. The younger folk seem to like to hang here chatting and surfing and drinking coffee which adds to the nice relatively good atmosphere.This has two floors but it not that big so it can be very cramped at times when it get busy i guess but what business doesn't get busy sometimes. I would come again in the near future.

Found the coffee to be really good, with great service and a very pleasant manager and staff who are very customer focussed.However the place is often understaffed and dirty which along with the fairly high number of large dogs in an eating establishment is somewhat unhygienic!

Nice place, quieter than Costa but I've never witnessed any urgency by staff at lunch times, ggrrrrrr!!

I might as well review a random Costa in Cumbria, as I am sure the coffee tastes the same and so do the non home made cakes and savouries. Saying that, I am sure that the coffee in the actual shop is better than in those hideous vending machines. Staff are polite, obviously some have degrees as you can't get a job with a BA anymore.

I don't know why? Maybe it's the oldy-worldy feel to the place that I like ... it has old oak beams and loads of character. I'm pretty sure there is wireless internet and more importantly it's never been overly busy in there. Coffee is always excellent.

OK for a quick coffee (as the staff are faster than the average Caffe Nero staff), but the whole place is spoilt by loud, crass yummy mummies letting their uncontrolled and undisciplined brats run riot.
