Great to break from the Christmas shopping in this cafe. Staff very friendly and tea came with pot of hot water. May be traditional but often overlooked nowadays. Appreciated.

Extremely disappointed. We thought it would be a treat going here for breakfast coming from Eastbourne on vacation! How wrong were we. My husband had the cooked breakfast which was warm. I went to get the cutlery, the first three forks I picked up all had dirty ground in old food on them! I had the breakfast bap and had a sausage which had to be the worst cheapest sausage I had ever bitten into. The fried egg was cold. Hence I only had one bite as it was inedible IMO. Coming from a managerial background the staff need a) a complete re-training b) the food should not be left on a warming tray which clearly is NOT keeping the food hot and c) most importantly all of the cutlery once washed should be inspected before it's placed back outside for use. I am surprised that food and hygenie authorities have not been in to inspect.

i often visit here for tea and a scone, but on this occasion my niece and her 2 year old joined me. We both had soup and bread it was absolutely lovely and home made and very filling. It's very spacious with lots of tables or comfy seating and good if you want to bring a pushchair or meet up with friends/family. there is also a little area of learning toys .very friendly staff and great scones too. Good location in central Cheltenham and good value.

I come here often for lunch and do not understand the negative reviews. Of course, this is a cafe in a department store, so there is no reason to expect total perfection. There are plenty of seats in a spacious cafe, which is more than what most places in Cheltenham offer. Free newspapers to read is also a nice touch. Customer service in my opinion has always been good. Food is also fine, there is a nice mixture of hot and cold options all good value for money. I would also recommend the scones, they are large and taste home made. Will continue to visit!

Rude staff, stale food, grubby cutlery. About time it was closed down, I imagine the new John Lewis will see to that soon enough. Avoid.

After visiting the Waitrose cafe for a full breakfast we were disappointed to find they only offered buns with bacon or sausage so we walked to the centre of Cheltenham in search of a full English. We called in the House of Fraser store and Cafe Zest. Although there was a small queue the cafe was not busy. We were self served the 6 item English breakfast by a friendly and helpful lady and also had toast included. All for 4.25. The food was piping hot and eggs cooked to order. Would definitely return if in the area.

Popped in for lunch as we were in Cavendish House shopping. Not much choice so I chose the vegetarian option, Chickpea and spinach curry and rice, plus chips as my wife thought it was a meagre portion. A small helping of curry, which turned out to be a good thing, as it was rather tasteless. The rice was also tasteless, especially as there was not enough curry sauce to accompany it. The chips were baked, from being too long under the warming lights. My wife had a quiche pie, she described as tasty but very dry. She agreed with me about the chips. All in all, a mistake we won't make again. You wonder how these places keep going.

I enjoyed my lunch here, I eat two days in a row at lunch. Both times staff were very helpful, more on Saturday than Sunday but I can't fault them they were doing the best to help. Just a small mention, disabled is on 2nd floor, I would reckon you'd have to use the disabled lift (not well signed but I'm being told is being looked at) if you were a wheelchair user and that could make it hard to go from one to the other. If you could manage the centre of store lift which isn't that disabled friendly as it's an original 70s Otis you should be ok.

'Café Zest' is a Department Store café on the first floor of House of Fraser in Cheltenham. I visited at 15:00 on a Friday afternoon; it was time for tea and a cake. At first sight this is quite a large café with a lot of seating and a buffet style servery. The servery area is so large that you would expect it to be full of food offerings to delight the afternoon palate. You would be disappointed.

A hidden gem, set away from the busy shopping areas of Cheltenham, yet within easy reach. Cafe offers a good range of drinks and food for all times of the day, meeting many dietary needs. Seating available both inside and out. Coffee is absolutely delicious. Excellent service. Ideal place to sit and relax. Worth a visit.

Nice welcoming environment, coffee shop is like a little cottage with plenty of places to sit and great toilet facilities. The coffee and teacakes are lovely, and the cakes look incredible too, although I haven’t tried them. Knocking a star off just because service was a little slow, with just one staff member serving, but they were trying their best.
