We found this place today by accident and we are so glad we did. Our order was taken by Andrew with the help of another young man who we didnt get his name. Table service was fantastic, our waiter was very friendly and he made sure we had every thing we could possibly need. The food was amazing, the sausage especially was outstanding, but all the food was cooked and presented to a very high standard. I cannot praise the staff enough. Top quality service, top quality food. Such a lovely experience, wish we lived closer so we could come here more often,

On Thursday 7th April I and a mate were in Workington for a hospital appointment, Now then I am Blind, therefore, have to use the PC with specialized audible software but I will never allow my disabilities to overshadow my abilities. and my mate Paul has MS - he's permanently in a `Power Chair` and has an assistance dog - Libby Nah then when we got to Cafe West we were met by Alison and shown to our seats where we ordered our food I had something simple - Beans on Toast whilst Paul had Toast and Jam. The Cafe is staffed TOTALLY by disabled people and is one of the most friendly, attentive places I have ever been in. Special points to remember are the sheer attentivness of these guys ngirls, NOTHING is ever too much for them SUPER HEROES every one of them

Arrived in Workington by bus and wanted a coffee, straight away I spotted the library with a cafe across the road. Very helpful, very friendly cafe in the library, we enjoyed the coffee. Returned here for lunch and enjoyed homemade soup with homemade roll at a very reasonable price, it was delicious. Keep up the good work, nice to support your good work. Noticed they also had a cafe in keswick so we visited that later in the week too.

Inside Workington Library, this cafe has lots of seating and a good, basic, home made menu. Staff are friendly, and my snack was very good value. A refreshing change from all the big chain places.

I visited the cafe last week with some colleagues following a meeting in the Library. Although we only had drinks (and a Mars Bar cake) the service was exceptional. The staff took our order and we were served at our table. The food and drinks were good and the Mars Bar sugar rush was a welcome addition to the drinks. It was lunchtime and just viewing the food on offer was making us all hungry. This is a really friendly cafe and the staff are a credit to it.

We called in early afternoon, only to find out the cafe was closing along with the library in 45 mins. But still had time to have sandwich, bit of salad, and a cuppa.. good service, food OK, staff friendly and helpful. Decent price.. was quiet when we were there, but could imagine it could get busy... good range of lite bites and cakes looked good

The heavens opened and I nipped in, out of the rain.I may have just had a pot of tea and a toasted teacake - but they really hit the spot. The toasted teacake was spiced - a delicately balanced flavour, and buttered whilst hot. Just perfect! So nice infact I asked if I could buy some to take home.Happily they obliged.Service was excellent too.One very happy new customer. Thank you!

What more could a bookworm with a sweet tooth ask for?! The staff are friendly and welcoming, prices very reasonable, and the cakes are scrummy... My particular favourite is the Westmorland Dream Cake. The paninis are very tasty too, made on homemade bread. Will definitely be making a regular visit. Well, every few weeks to pick up some new books I guess!

Lovely cakes and scones, good service from the counter staff, well done folks! There was a similar cafe in the hospital and massively dissapointed it was closed down, big miss, but at least we still have a cafe west in the library.

Its fab to be able to have a coffee/tea in the library and to start the first chapter of your book. Lots of people having a light lunch in here on the day I was in and have to say the soup looked really good. Will be back when I'm feeling hungry !

Had an absolutely lovely meal here at the weekend. We arrived at 15:01, 1 minute after they stop serving food but still accommodated us which we were very grateful for before a 3 hour journey home. Great value for money and the staff are lovely

We went in for drinks only. The beer was spot on but the bar was cold, no heating and no fire on despite it being most definitely winter! There were no lights on the Christmas tree, or any Christmas lights which were all switched off. It was a shame as the beer is great and staff quite friendly.

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.
