Super dirty. They don’t wash things properly. I reminded them. No apologies, seems like this is not the first time they heard this

I love Waterstones cafe in London Piccadilly and often meet up with friends there as the staff there are a lovely bunch and the atmosphere relaxed. The exact opposite would apply to the Waterstones branch in Oxford. The cups and saucers were dirty and rimmed with tea/coffee stains. When I asked for another cup the rude person behind the counter told me it was the fault of the dishwasher and then he turned his back on me. I then had occasion to use the toilets, I wish I hadn't bothered. There was a queue for the one toilet on the next floor of six people stretching along the carpet to the stairs. Finally, I got to use the facilities only to find they were disgusting with toilet paper on the floor, a wet seat and water all over the floor. In the end, I held off and used another toilet at another place rather than risk using the one at Waterstones. Such a pity to find this happening as the rest of our visit to Oxford was a magical experience.

Twice in a row I have gotten a tea and the cup/saucer and teaspoon have been unclean to the point it’s off putting to drink and I’ve asked for a replacement. Great views of the city though!

Great coffee and a massive shout out for the blueberry Chelsea bun which was delicious. Nice to relax amongst the books. Be aware there is often a queue for the loo which is on the fourth floor! Otherwise, a lovely experience.

Think this used to be Boswells Cafe in the 1960s. Very good views of a busy Corner opposite Debenhams and the passing buses. The Shop has some lovely little corners where on is relaxed and welcome. And the book selections are more impartial than Blackwells. Would reccomend if one has a spare half hour.

Whenever I'm in Oxford I always stop by here for a cuppa. Staff friendly and perfect place to enjoy tea and books. But I went there last week to discover that the cakes have been substantially reduced in size (by50% ?) but it is still charging the same price for them. IE, the brownies, bakewell tarts and flapjacks were so ridiculously tiny that other customers also commented about this. Shame.

Spændende sted.

In certain areas of Oxford there are loads of coffee shops and then all of a sudden you can't find any! Cafe W overlooks a lovely square and seems to be near where a lot of the tourist trips start from. It's nothing special though feels sweet as it's to the side of the book area. If you're lucky you can get seats looking out over the rooftops of older Oxford. Not the best coffee shop in Oxford but honest and simple

I love cafés in bookshops, they have such a nice, pleasant and cozy milieu. However you're lucky if you can find a table to sit down here. If you can, you're one of the lucky ones as it full of students all the time who spend hours there. No problem with that as they like this place as much as I do and I would spend hours studying there too if I had a chance for that. Peaceful place, nice customer service, book and coffee smell everywhere. :-)

Well located on the second floor of Waterstones book shop, this place has great views if you can sit close to the windows. A lot of people use the tables for study, or look through books from the shop. I had a very good flat white and salted caramel brownie, sitting in a sofa looking out over Magalen Street. It can get busy but I had no trouble finding a seat

Located at what some people may consider to be the symbolic heart of the city – the intersection of Broad Street and the Cornmarket – Waterstones occupies a central position in Oxford. Principally a large, interesting and well-stocked bookstore in a listed building, there’s also a very popular café on the second floor.

We needed to sit down after seeing some of the sights in Oxford. We tend to avoid some of the major chains & prefer to support local businesses. We spotted the coffee shop, but failed to spot the lift which goes up to the coffee shop on the second floor! We enjoyed our tea & coffee & enjoyed the atmosphere which is popular with the students, many working on laptops. Good views to be had from the cafe. Worth a visit.

Went in here for a quick cake and a coffee. I definitely plan on returning. We had the peanut butter slice and a peach croissant. Both were delicious. We also had a cappuccino and a matcha latte. I had been craving matcha but could not find one in Oxford and so was very excited to try one. Sadly, the drink today the milk was a bit burnt and the matcha hand't properly been stirred and so there were a number of clumps when drinking. I am sure next time will be better! It is perfect for a study space, coffee and a quick read.

Nice location, atmosphere and views but on the snack food side it seemed to be lacking. By this I mean it did not have a range of simpler biscuits and cakes and tended to have very fancy looking snacks hence we could not find a snack for the children plus I am a fan of a simple cake and cookie too. Overall, not bad but not what we wanted either.

We fancied a nice lunch whilst in Oxford last weekend, and having been disappointed with the Pret a Manger in the centre we decided to go for the Waterstones Cafe. It's lovely and bright with plenty of seating. There is complimentary tap water in a lovely large glass jar infused with lemons and limes which made a nice difference. For lunch I had a cheese scone with butter and shared a salted caramel chocolate brownie with my partner. My partner had a plain croissant and a pain au chocolat. To drink I had English Breakfast tea and he had a green tea, which I wished I'd had!The food was really good (especially the brownie!) and it was a nice fairly quick, relaxing lunch. It wasn't cheap but the quality made it worth it.I'd recommend the green tea.(Put 3/5 for service as you go up and order and pay so no table service.)

While there is undeniably better coffee to be had around Oxford, there is something very nice about being able to sit and happily read a newly purchased book and look out over Oxford. This always used to be a Costa and remarkably little has actually changed since it morphed into a 'Cafe W'. The coffee is very much of the Costa/starbucks style and the cakes are very similar. However the staff are friendly and the view are excellent. If you're considering buying a book it's sometimes useful to have a quick browse through over a coffee before making up your mind!

After a day visiting Oxford - seeing museums, and strolling around this beautiful city- my husband & I were in need of a coffee. We chose this cafe as it was close to the Park & Ride bus stop. Unfortunately, despite it being a weekday it had obviously been & still was -Empty tables were full of used crockery etc. There was 1 pleasant, but extremely stressed young lady taking & filling orders and payment at the counter. A young chap appeared whilst I was being served who was on his break. Seeing his colleagues situation he gave up his free time to clear the tables. The coffee served was very good. The cafe is light and airy overlooking the Main Street. Note to Waterstones - you obviously have some very good staff, just not enough of them!

Sunday afternoon in Oxford. What could be nicer than an hour in a bookshop and a cup of tea? Especially if both are available in the same place. Café W in Waterstone’s bookshop offers just that. Formerly a Costa Coffee outlet, Café W is in a pleasantly light corner on the second floor, with views of the shopping street below. A wide range of teas and coffees, and a selection of cakes are on offer, but time your visit carefully: ‘Could I have a plate for my cake, please?’ ‘No, we are only using bags now, and paper cups’. Nice white cups and mugs sat tantalisingly on a shelf, out of our reach. Why would this be, at 4 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon, an hour before the shop closes, and half an hour before last orders? Could it be that the staff don’t want to have to wash up or load the dishwasher after service? Or could it be that Waterstone’s won’t pay them for the time it would take to do so? If so there is no wonder that the staff are as grumpy as those in charge of the paper bags on this particular Sunday afternoon. We can only speculate, but given the rich supply of tea and coffee shops in Oxford, in future we shall do so elsewhere.

Visited with my son who ordered the burger. It came with a dry bun and an equally dry burger patty. No relish and just a piece of lettuce and slice of tomato. All totally inedible and not the qualities would expect in a Waitrose. The chips were obviously of the oven variety and undercooked. Overall a terrible experience and not one I would wish to repeat. Will not be coming back.
