Called in for a late lunch around 2.30. Ordered soup, when it was given to me at the table it was cold. Reheated when requested. Would t visit again. No atmosphere and mediocre food. Service slow.

The cafe has been completely refurbished and looks great ( as does the whole outside area) We did note the tables hadn't been cleared when we visited in late pm. That said we had scones n coffees which were fine Might go back for lunch but might avoid quiche based on previous reviews.

Popped in for a light lunch, ordered Two portions of “gourmet” cheesy Chips , although reasonable quality The portions were very small and I Don’t quite understand what was “Gourmet” about it, what was Really shocking was the price of £4.95 per portion.

Dreadful service. Took our order at 1.25, at 2.00 p.m a member of staff came to our table to tell us that the ciabatta we had ordered was not available. Why take the order in the first place. This is the 2nd time this has happened since the new cafe opened. Couldn't wait to leave and didn't buy the plants we were there for. Be a while before we go back.

As a carer i visit the garden centre and cafe often with elderly clients. My experience is 5 stars everytime. The cafe is bright, cheerful and very clean. Disability friendly. The staff are just wonderful. They are more than helpful and attentive. A great team and so welcoming. Being disabled can sometimes be a challenge in public places, but I have always recieved amazing customer service above and beyond there duty. I look forward to many more visits. The homemade cake is out of this world. Thank you for making it a lovely place to visit.

The café was always a pleasure to visit, and the previous owners clearly understood the café was a pull factor with great value prices so that visitors would then purchase other items in the garden centre. The new owners however are super greedy and have attempted to turn the café into a money-making machine with completely over-the-top prices. The problem there is high prices have to be matched with high-quality food and service. The service is still great, and the team are always friendly and hard-working. But the food quality is average at best, so it just will never work to charge Harrods of Knightsbridge prices for basic cakes, sandwiches, and salads. You only have to look at the other recent Trip Advisor reviews and the picture is pretty clear customers are finding the prices ridiculous. I only hope the new owners quickly realise this isn’t sustainable and at the very least they should be reducing the prices to a more affordable reasonable level and try to keep in mind the Chenies garden centre is a very much-loved leisure destination for the local surrounding community who will happily come in frequently to spend some money but at the same time do not want to feel cheated by the Café.

Slow service and wildly overpriced. Ordered two sandwiches, one was not as described at all, completely revolting and on the thinnest bread imaginable. The other we asked for part of the filling to be substituted because of food allergy but when it arrived it was not what we asked for, the very nice member of staff changed it for us but it was still wrong. Just over £30 for two sandwiches and three drinks, a total rip off.

I had initially requested a salmon nicoise salad, advertised on a blackboard at the till, however when ordering I was advised by a very nice man that was not available. As the menus appear to be a state secret and kept behind the counter, and there was another person in the queue, I had to order quickly and upon seeing a Ploughman’s also advertised on the blackboard, ordered this. What a mistake! I ordered it with brown bread and it arrived with white, which I let go because I was hungry. But the white bread was so stale! The ploughman’s consisted of a pickled egg, 2 pickled onions, 2 pickled gherkins and piccalilli, a bit too much pickle for my liking, but that’s personal preference. It also came with two of the cheapest little pork pies I have ever been served and an abundance of apple slices. And two slices of flimsy sweaty rubbery burger cheese??? And that was it, It was awful. And it cost £12. My husband had the same. Thank goodness we also ordered one of the small lovely quiches to share, otherwise it wouldn’t have been enough. Our very disappointing meal for two people, with two soft drinks cost £37.25. We left, not bothering to finish looking at the garden furniture. Never again.

Avoid at all costs; service is extremely poor and staff are easily overwhelmed by more than a few orders pending. Food takes a good 30+ minutes to arrive and whilst pleasant, feels overpriced. A serious lack of management and attention to detail is apparent.

We dropped in here, for old time's sake, for a quick lunch while in the area. The vegetable soup (not broccoli and Stilton, as advertised) was lukewarm and extraordinarily salty. We waited for the toasted sandwich to appear - it finally arrived about 25 minutes later and after a trip to the counter to enquire about it. We then asked if the soup could quickly be reheated - it disappeared, reappearing about 15 minutes later, no warmer but sprinkled with chopped chives. At the table next to us, there was a similar problem with the soup - which also disappeared and reappeared, redecorated rather than reheated, and one bowl had soup slopped right over the side. This was not due to a lack of staff - there really were "too many cooks to spoil the broth"... along with a nice little notice pleading for patience while staff were "trained in the new menu" (primarily of soup, sandwiches and cake). And one soup and one toasted sandwich with two bottles of water came to £19.85... Old time's sake or not, we shall not be returning.

They have extended the seating and it is lovely on a nice day, however the cakes are far too expensive and they are the meanest slice. £4.75! One of their slices of cake is easily half a portion! Can you please provide value for money when it comes to cake and not make everything about profit.

Had lunch here today , very expensive for dry sandwich with no butter, on reflection should have sent it back as 7.50 is a lot for tasteless dried up food, scone was too dry and stuck to top of mouth , no food menu on show or on website , only available at the counter, all seems self service , tables not cleared and cushions on seats stained and grubby, on a positive cakes looked lovely and setting lovely but service and sandwiches are sadly lacking, better places for the price !

We are local and have been visiting Cafe VH for some time so it pains me to leave this inevitable negative review. The cafe used to be good for coffee and small eats and cakes and all was good.....however in recent times this has not remained the case. On three recent visits the kitchen equipment was "not working" so even a toasted sandwich was out of the question (really? no plug in toaster?). The alternative offerings were frankly awful and not worth the now higher prices. My wife's greek salad was a miserable slop into a bowl, my cold sandwich was dry curly and tasteless. You will be safer with the cakes which look as if they are made off site and there is only so much damage you can do to a coffee, right? The cleanliness of the food area would benefit from better attention.

Went to wandering around the garden centre and found this great little cafe! Best sausage and egg bap in a brioche. Beautifully cooked and in about 10 minutes. Nice hot coffee in a cup and saucer. Was a little busy with so many people buying Xmas trees but served in great time. Lovely friendly staff.

We ordered a jacket potato and two toasted cheese sandwiches and were not advised of a long waiting time. After 40 minutes I went to enquire and was rudely told we were in a long queue. After another 15 minutes the food came out but the sandwiches were not toasted. The bread was dry with no butter, so the cheese was falling out, which made me think they’d been made for the toaster but didn’t make it in. The waitress said she’d take them back but my mum is diabetic and we couldn’t afford to wait anymore time so we said we’d accept them if she would check if we should be due a refund of the price difference between a toasted and non toasted sandwich. She didn’t return so I went to the till to ask. I was polite, so the rudeness of the reply took me aback. I was abruptly asked if we ate the sandwiches and I said yes because we’d already waited nearly an hour and Mum needed to eat. She argued for a while but then barked she would refund me half of each sandwich. She asked me to insert my card and when I said we paid cash she demanded to see my receipt before throwing the £7 across the counter. There was no apology at any point. Hot drinks still bring served in paper cups, even though cutlery and teapots have returned. It was altogether a terrible experience and as the plants in the garden centre itself were in extremely poor condition, we won’t be returning.

I had previously visited this shop for years when it was Baskin Robbins. It was always serviced by warm friendly staff as other reviews allude to. After the covid 19 lockdown it reopened a few weeks ago under a new name and my children were asking me to get takeaway items ever since so today we headed out I visited today Saturday at 5.30pm. The shops presentation and menu looked fantastic.the shop was clean...in the short time we had to view the ice cream it looked fantastic. However all that counts for nothing when you have a thoroughly rude and uncivilised staff member with no manners working behind the counter. For the sake of management I refer them to the cctv which will show a thin male in his 40s with glasses and receded hair as whom I refer to. I had taken my son in at 5.30 pm .The aforementioned staff member asked for our order. My 14 year old son tried to give it several times over the blaring too loud radio but the staff member couldnt understand. So to politely help I tried to give the staff member the order but was abrupty cut off mid speech with a bark of "sssshhh hes telling me one at a time" .He turned around to make my sons milkshake order with his back turned to us but shouted out " anything else" without facing us....I began to give the remaining order consisting of 2 more milkshakes and firstly 3 ice cream orders , to which he barked out "Which flavour" ..i began to now give the in fact 2 flavours per person when he cut me off before i had given them ...he abruptly shouted back the wrong order.I smiled and tried to correct him but he was very impatient and was getting angry (!)..I said "Excuse me sir I"m trying to give a simple order and you keep cutting me off"....he truculently barked back "Well i can ask you 2 things at once if you cant answer not my problem" .I was flabbergasted at this individual's attitude. I calmly replied " Sir i"ve come here to buy ice cream and you are a very rude person so we will shop elsewhere" . As I left like a hooligan he bellowed out for me to pay for a milkshake he hadnt even given us. Am utterly classless individual and we wont ve shopping here again. I am a local school teacher and frankly I wouldnt expect this behaviour from a petulant child. this man behaved like a hooligan in front of me and my son and other customers. Management should look at employing someone with vestiges of civility capable of serving the public. We shall not be returning until...no doubt this idiot runs the business into the ground and new management take over.

First Impressions, I was informed online that The Crown was open this morning, I visited to get a coffee and to have a look at how the alleged 3 Million had been spent, had to use the side door marked for ‘partners’, whatever that means? Was told that the pub was closed for another 30 minutes, so I had a quick look around . First impressions saddened me greatly, this is a lesson on how to ruin a country pub. What do I mean? The design theme is exactly what you would expect from a city centre refurbished hotel lobby, in my brief review there is of course no connection to the pubs history. This includes the fact that the new staff had no idea that I had been a customer of this pub for 37 years (a local) because the new management remove all bar one of the original greatly valued staff, well done. The only reason there is any sign of the character of the previous pub, is because it is a listed building. This refurb is pretentious and out of place, but will be great for group selfies. Boo hoo,, another great pub bites the dust.
