Apart from having drinks and huge breakfasts, lunches and snacks etc as usual at the lowish wetherspoons prices, the main reason to sit/or at least try to get a seat at the Cafe Rouge is to while away your time until your flight is called. The place is permanently packed and, it is a sight. Where else, apart from a drag bar, can you see thirty men in their twenties and thirties in full drag, men dressed as brides and bridesmaids, hen parties in full, or at least not full, stripper regalia....and everyone in the cafe/pub totally accepting. Terrific!

My sister and I ate here recently and the food was just as we expected - fast "pub" food!! My scampi was okay but my sister ordered fish and chips - there was no way the fish was cod as was advertised on the menu - it was quite grey looking with black bits underneath. The batter was also less than desirable!! Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of time to spare before joining our connecting flight so didn't complain at the time. The guy that took our order was very friendly but that in no way made up for the lack of quality in the meal. Next time we are in Gatwick with just a little time to spare we will be heading to Boots or M & S for a pack of sandwiches!!

I use Gatwick pretty regularly and usually around breakfast time. Cafe Rouge provides the best breakfast at the South Terminal in comfortable surroundings with a nice view of the airfield and reliable service geared to getting you to your aircraft on time.Very good traditional breakfast with a decent pot of of tea for under £15 (menu link below). There is also a vegetarian option (other than "poke off"). Can't guarantee you won't find yourself sitting amongst some contestants in the Orlando Thomas Cook's under 5's Tattoo Competition, but the place is big enough to sit next to someone who looks at least clean - no minor achievement in Gatwick these days.So..........if you have time, it is actually a pleasure to have breakfast in Cafe Rouge at Gatwick Airport. Its never packed to the rafters unlike some of the eateries at both terminals, but has a buoyant and steady flow and we've never had problems getting a table quickly. Service is good and (more importantly) prompt and the food is very reasonable in terms of quality and cost. If you want cheap, try the extremely manic Wetherspoons downstairs, if not then you could do a lot worse. Just don't expect a view or silver service.

The full English breakfast (£8.25), minus the sausage which looked repellant as I made my way through other happy breakfast eaters, arrrived shortly afterwards, Two fried eggs, bacon, black pudding, tomato and a spoonful of baked beans plus toast/butter was edible but certainly nothing memorable. Rather like cleaning your teeth, breakfast has to be taken but it was merely an opportunity for a calorie-fest. Airport food is the stuff of legends. We were "looking forward" to a twelve-hour non-stop flight, so with a degree of cynicism we also looked for somewhere to lunch - and were very pleasantly surprised by Cafe Rouge at the Airport. The food hall on the first floor has the usual outlets, and without much hope we chose Cafe Rouge - nb it's out of the way at the far end, so takes a little bit of finding. It has the same decor that you'll know, and to our great relief/delight on a busy day they were able to serve us up a really good meal, especially the main - beef bourgignon - which was piping hot and delicious. The staff caring and professional - amazing considering the through put of customers. We made our lunch a full blown one, so a tad pricey coming in at 27.50 a head - but well worth it if you're faced with a long haul flight to come (on which, it later turned out, the interflight entertainment failed completely - but that's another story)

Came here for a quick breakfast before boarding a flight. For an airport restaurant it's decent but don't expect high quality. It's quick, cheap food. The breakfast menu has a few decent options and they use free range eggs which is a major plus. They have lots of egg based options, a granola/yogurt option and pastry/bagel/croissant options. It's quite busy before those early morning flights but because the food comes out so quick there are plenty of tables available. The good thing about it is that since its tucked away in the corner you don't necessarily feel like you're sitting in an airport. Good for a quick, cheap meal but expect the quality to be average.

My Tomato salad with red onion and Balsamic was older than I was.The following day I was on holiday with Stomach Cramps and frequent visits to the loo.I don't normally complain but this was seriously sub-standard. I usually eat here when arriving before 06.00, and it serves a good breakfast. Service is prompt and it is usually possible to arrive, order, eat and pay in less than 45 minutes, which is what you need when time is limited. This time, on ordering a fruit juice though, I foolishly forgot to ask for 'no ice' so about a quarter of my two pounds plus drink was ice. When drinks are (usually) chilled anyway, restaurants should ask if a customer wants ice rather than putting it in as a default (and when they do, two cubes rather than six will suffice) ~ it is an underhand way of 'overcharging', especially when Cafe Rouge is not the cheapest of outlets to start with ~ this is the reason for the 'average' review, as otherwise it 'ticks the boxes'.

When we have to fly from Gatwick, we start our holiday here. We try to get flights around 10:00 so we get up at a respectable time and can have something to eat that is good before we go Easy, Ryan etc.Had slow service a couple of times but usually a gentle nudge results in food and drink being served promptly.Good breakfast, good coffee, papers to read while other do their shopping.Nice way to start a trip.

I like Cafe Rouge normally, not here. We ordered two pots of tea.The waitress was very slow and very miserable. We could see our tea waiting on the counter to be picked up. I broguht this to the waitresses attention, but she made no attempt to bring them over and did several other things before doing so.The worst thing was that all the waiters and waitresses took milk jugs from customers tables and filled them up for the next customers!!! Horrendous! Previous customers could have sneezed or coughed over the milk that was then 'upcycled' for other customers. Not exactly impressive Infection Prevention and Control procedures! It makes me wonder what they do in the kitchen!! Will never go here again.

Having risen at 3am to reach Gatwick for 5am we were keen to have a nice breakfast. The airport was buzzing at 6am and Café Rouge looked like the place to be. So we joined the throng but were disappointed. The Eggs Benedict was, frankly, uninspired and poor. It was eggs on ham on bread. That's all. And at £13.90 for two of us, a rip-off. Our two Café Americanos (£4.60 for two) were equally average. At £18.50 we felt short changed. Twenty quid with tip. Rip-off Britain. But the waiter was nice!

When flying somewhere in the morning, I've started researching the airport breakfast options, after paying well over the odds for awful food a number of times. Before flying out of Gatwick North, I'd read reviews of all the options, and having been to other Cafe Rouge locations before (and enjoying what's on offer), thought we'd give it a go at Gatwick, and I'm glad we did.My OH went in to get a table while I made a couple of last minute purchases, and when I got there, the waitress was straight over (she'd already tried to take my OH's order). Food and drink ordered with ease, and we had our hot food and drinks on the table within about 10 minutes. I had eggs benedict, pretty good (one egg overdone), but otherwise nice. OH had bacon baguette, said it was good too. The drinks (coffee and tea), both served hot and strong enough. They bring your bill while you are still eating, to give you the option to pay then, in case you are in a hurry - what a clever idea for an airport! The only strange thing that happened - just after we started eating, an identical order was brought to our table - some confusion in the kitchen I guess - thankfully they duplicated the order, and didn't lose it!Cafe Rouge will be my 1st choice now when flying out of Gatwick North.

The food was terrible, We had gambas al jillo and some kind of quiche. The gambas were hard and served with what looked like last week's salad and the quiche was nondescript and disheartening at the start of a holiday break. Don't go there unless morbidly curious.

Unlike some airports, Gatwick have really got the security process off to a T, and we found ourselves through security with over an hour before our gate was announced. There were quite a few restaurants, but all "chain"; and we decided to give Café Rouge a go as we'd wanted to go there in Covent Garden, but it had been too full.Service was great, and my all day breakfast was way better than I'd expected. My wife had a Tarte Provencale, which was also delicious. The food came quickly. And afterwards, we ordered two pots of tea. And quite simply, the teabag was too small for the teapot. I really wonder about this, because everything else was so good, but the teapots are a standard size, so presumably everyone is getting tea so weak that any half respectable cat would pour it straight into the litter tray.Anyway - great food, great service, great coffee (according to s-i-l, who had an espresso), just dire tea. Next time, I'll take my own teabag.Meal for three, excluding drinks, £36. Not bad for airport prices.

Me and my partner were early to the airport to get on a plane to fuerteventura .. And decided to get some breakfast here! Well I had a fluffy poached egg with ham and some lovely sauce ... I was in heaven! They do fresh orange juice which is brilliant for breakfast. This is now my favourite breakfast and whenever we go on holiday again will definitely be repeating our visit to this one!

My wife and I visited this restaurant earlier this month with a little trepidation after our last experience. The restaurant was not too busy and we were seated quickly by the window overlooking the airport field. We ordered coffee and baguettes. The coffee arrived speedily and was piping hot (in contrast to last time). The baguettes arrived soon after, again hot. The only drawback was a lack of bacon, there were only two rashers slightly overcooked. Will give it another go later in the year.

An early check out of Hotel for an early flight meant no hotel breakfast. But once checked in and through security there is only one place to go at Gatwick North terminal Airside. The Café Rouge seems to thrive on providing swift efficient friendly service to people with flights to catch. No sooner is your order placed that , the drinks and cutlery are on the table , soon followed by the food orderIt was quite busy on the day I visited but this did not effect the service or quality of the Full EnglishWill look forward to returning soonThank you to all the staff and Chefs

Cafe Rouge are by and large reliable but this time it wasn't great.I got here early for breakfast as I like to eat before any longish flight, I was seated fairly quickly butit was about 15 mins before my order was taken (there was no shortage of staff). Another 10 mins before my coffee arrived and a bit later my food (I'd almost finished my coffee)I wasn't alone, those around me seemed to be getting the same treatment. It's not how I like to start a journey, I'll be trying somewhere else next time.

Stopped for a bite to eat as a nice place to relax whilst waiting for your flight. Have had the All Day Breakfast twice before which I have always found good quality and I like the option of having your eggs cooked to your personal preference. This time tried the Croque Madame which was served with a choice of French Fries or Salad. Both the food and service were very good.

Had a late lunch here before flying off on holiday with my wife. We both ordered the steak, medium rare and I had French fries and my wife had a salad, together with two large glasses of wine. The steaks were very tender and cooked to perfection and the sauce that they came with was excellent. The service was very efficient, pleasant, helpful and quick. A great start to the holiday. I would definitely use this restaurant again.

If you want an excellent and relaxing meal before departing anywhere you cannot beat a window table here.My Wife enjoyed a three-egg cheese omelette which she described as being on a par with any she had ever tasted whilst I consumed with relish a dish of mussels with lovely chippies. Moules marinieres is one of my favourites and although the quantity served is not as great as that on the Continent (I usually have 750g or even a kilo) the flavour was just as good as anywhere. The 'icing on the cake' was the bill.....These two first-class meals, a large lemonade (for my Wife) and a bottle of the excellent house wine for myself came to well under £40.00!! In fact I paid a little over forty quid as I thought that our waiter (Antonio) provided wonderful service and well deserved a decent tip! The whole experience was worth every penny (and more).I can guarantee that if you visit YOU WILL ENJOY!

As we had a fairly early start we decided to have breakfast at Gatwick, as a start to our holiday. The menu looked ok and the waiting staff very friendly and if I was to rate the experience on the lady who served us it would be a 5! Unfortunately when the food arrived it wasn't exactly as we ordered (one of my boys had ordered chips with his bacon roll) only to be told by the kitchen staff that chips were only available in the afternoon. We accepted this as I agree chips and breakfast are a strange combination. The rest of the food was ok, my eggs Benedict cold and the bacon rolls dry. When the bill arrived we had been charged for the chips so I pointed out we had been told they were not available until after lunch. They corrected the bill and were apologetic but I'm really not sure it left us with the start to the holiday we had wanted.

Had a very polite waiter see us to a table and take our order. (That was the high spot of the visit!)The chicken Caesar salads were without doubt the worst I have ever been served. It was like a plate of shredded lettuce with tiny pieces of chopped chicken hidden with it. The garlic bread was hard stale twists of bread that needed dipping in a small pot of liquid butter with a very slight hint of garlic. we were also served a small pot of what tasted slightly like mayonnaise with it?Having had a very long day travelling I decided not to get upset about it on the spot. I believe that the amount we were charged was way over the top for what was provided. Definitely one not to bother with! It was rubbish.
