Random visit while in Gloucester, so pleased we did. We were welcomed on-board with a display of very tempting cakes, good start. Decided on a savory option, cheese burger and a chicken burger, turned out to be a good choice. Highly recommend. Great location, especially for people watching. We will return.

Great addition to Gloucester, this small floating Cafe has fantastic potential..I've been twice for (great) coffee and basic selection of lovely cakes. However I think the pricing is punchy....I had a delicious Baba Ghanoush and warm pita today. A 'side' but perfect for a light lunch. My husband ordered Lamb Kofta. Very poor value and waited a ridiculous amount of time for a few dressed leaves, two tiny kofta and some cumin flavoured yoghurt. There is so much competition with at least 4 other places serving the same food. No toilets (although directed to use Corretto (??) No bottled water. Lovely lady serving. Great location and wish them luck. Hopefully just teething probs.

This review is being written honestly and genuinely, after a very poor experience. The boat itself is very novel, with interesting decor and a comfortable atmosphere. No problems there. The service left a lot to be desired, though: this is coming from someone who has travelled extensively, and never felt compelled to leave a completely negative online review. On entering, the boat/cafe owner greeted my partner and I by basically instructing me to close the door. 'What do you do when you enter a boat?', she asked loudly whilst glancing towards the entrance, as opposed to breaking her ongoing conversation (seated) with other customers and closing it herself. The word 'please' was not even used, and the lady delivered it in a condescending 'addressing-a-small-child' tone in front of everyone. There was either no sign to suggest that this should be done, or one that wasn't prominently displayed. In the British tradition of politely bearing, we ordered coffee and peppermint tea. The coffee was served with a milk pourer which was not cleaned properly along the lip portion; this was accompanied by a chocolate brownie which had a hair in it. It tasted like a refrigerated brownie which can be purchased in Tesco or other supermarkets; if it was home made, it was one of the worst I have ever had, worthy of inclusion in any building foundation for its impossibly dense texture. In addition, the tables were a bit grubby and not wiped down properly, which was only visible once we had taken our seats. On quietly making our way out (and this, frankly, was the final straw which prompted me to take time out of a busy day to write this review), the owner asked in front of other customers and my partner, 'And what are you going to do on the way out?' In other words, 'Close the door after you'. I obviously needed reminding; a grown man and paying customer, too incompetent to remember to close the door after being instructed the first time. I have never experienced this is all my years of travel. For £6.50, I got: two reminders to close a door in front of other customers and my partner, a sub-par brownie with a hair in it, an unclean milk pourer and poorly-wiped tables.

From hungry swans that tap on the windows to dishes that contain ingredients of "blah-de-blah" this is one of the most unique (and friendly) eaterie experiences in Gloucester. Forget the posh nosh and chain eateries elsewhere on the quays and fill yourself up here on some excellent home cooked food - dishes change with each visit - or a range of delicious butties (I haven't sampled the cakes yet). All locally sourced ingredients and freshly made.Be warned it's not the easiest place to work out how full it is, and if you're not used to narrow boat doors you're in for a treat (if the doors let you in - the frame will attempt to catch your head on the way out - worry not though as the hostess will remind you to duck as you make your exit). The friendly intimate atmosphere means you're unlikely to sit without talking to at least one other patron and customers will happily recommend the latest hot special they are tucking into. Decide to become a regular then you'll even get your own nickname from the owner which you'll never shake - no matter how hard you try.For a light bite or coffee/tea, and a break from the abundance of other cafes with their stock paninis and jacket potatoes on the menu this is well worth the visit. (Just watch your head on the way out).

My friend Kim and I were strolling around Gloucester Docks and stumbled across this little gem on our way to the designer outlet. It's a proper narrow boat and we couldn't resist stopping for tea and cake. As we entered the boat, two other customers came down the steps too. It was almost closing time but the delightful owner made us all feel so welcome and that there was really no rush. Our tea and cake were excellent (very reasonable too) and we enjoyed a chat with the other visitors. The owner says this happens all the time (strangers chatting to each other). If I lived nearer I would definitely book the whole boat for a tapas night. Bookings are taken for five to eleven people and you get a selection of Spanish tapas made while you wait. You can bring your own booze (no corkage fee) although the chef requires a glass of wine! We found the designer outlet much-improved (last time lots of shops had closed) and I will certainly be back to revisit the shops and this lovely place.

I visited with my husband and children aged 6 and 4. We were strolling around the docks and my four year old son begged to go on the one of the boats. After explaining that we couldn't we happened upon this lovely cafe. A sign at the entrance said that well behaved children were welcome and so we went in. We had a chocolate brownie each and a drink each. A couple next to us had the most scrummy looking sandwich but we had already eaten. (Such a shame!) Our children were very well behaved and as such felt very welcome by both staff and the other clients. Being a narrow boat space was very limited but there were tables outside if you want space anyway. When it came to paying I was expecting to pay over the odds due to the area and the novelty of the location but I was pleasantly surprised and the bill was very reasonable. The owner (I think) was also a welcome addition to the atmosphere with her quirky, friendly personality.

Nice coffee and very nice cake. Would certainty go back. If you can't get on board the barge then there are table on the quayside.

My husband and I have wanted to try this narrow boat cafe in the docks for a long time so, whilst visiting the Food Festival at Gloucester Quays, we decided to do so. We were pleasantly greeted by the lady owner who took our order for a cream tea for us to share and two ordinary coffees. The scone was beautifully fresh (it comes from a bakery) and served with the usual jam and fresh cream. The coffees were lovely too. There was a very enticing 'guilty' board with three or four types of cakes on but, unfortunately, as we were going out in the evening we didn't feel we should indulge as we knew we wouldn't have been able to manage our meal out that night. We did linger for quite a while after finishing due to talking to another couple but at no time, even though a couple of other people entered the barge, did we feel pressured to leave to free up space which, obviously, as it's a narrow boat is limited. We asked for the bill and were surprised to see that it was only £6.00 which to us seemed extremely good value; especially when comparing to the usual chain coffee shops, and you'll find the portion size of the scone is larger too!Would recommend if you want to try something away from the norm.

We stopped for a quiet cup of tea in the lovely narrow boat in Gloucester quay. We were persuaded by the Sin board to enjoy a slice of carrot cake. All was lovely, can't wait to go again.

Grandchildren had been pestering mum to go on this for lunch for some time so we said we would take them. Food was reasonably well prepared but for three sandwiches, a ploughmans and and a scone/jam/cream with five drinks the bill of over £30 seemed just a little steep and certainly something which we would not do again. With so many eating establishments around the Quays businesses have to remember they have plenty of competition and need to fix prices around this.

An excellent and unique dining experience, that matches and exceeds the bigger restaurants on the Gloucester Quays. The pre-booked 'tapas' evening catered for all 11 of us from our company, which provided exceptional food and service. Fully recommend the 'cafe on the cut' as one of the must locations to dine or simply chill with a coffee and a slice of cake for any visitor to Gloucester

We were a party of ten who enjoyed a Tapas dinner on a Friday night. As we were taking all ten seats we had booked well in advance. The boat is not licensed (I assume), as we brought our own drink. Brilliantly hosted, tasty dinner. Lots of fun. Recommended, if you want a table for dinner, book in advance.

We walked by there and really liked the look of it. We walked in and were immediately welcomed by a lady who had a great sense of humor that made everyone laugh. We ordered cream tea and a cheese scone, that's when the disappointment kicked in. The scones (both the sweet and the cheese) were far from fresh and felt like they were bought from a super market. We asked and were told they were bought from a bakery but didn't feel like it. When we got to pay we found out that they don't take cards (which I totally understand but I wish there was a sign!) and we were 30p short of change. My friend had to go walking around for about 20 minutes to find a cash point. It would have been also helpful to suggest where the nearest cash point will be...

A lovely little Narrow boat with two lovely ladies inside. Seating is cosy with only two seats at each table, so an Ideal place to go with A friend or Partner. I probably wouldn't bring kids unless well behaved as the boat can rock with fidgety children.I go here on my own for tea and cake as I feel safe here and never looked down upon for being alone. The lady with the Purple hair is very down to earth and funny. You can easily talk to her. So come along one day and try a yummy cake or may I recommend the soup..... YUM.

My husband and I were lucky enough to visit this wonderful, original cafe in Gloucester docks. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Brilliant value for money with added sense of humour. Absolutely great, we tried to go back the following day for more tea, coffee and cake but unsurprisingly it was full. Thank you.

This is a tiny cafe, because it's on a narrowboat. If you don't understand that a narrowboat is going to be narrow, that it's a little awkward to board, or that a boat is going to move around a bit, then don't worry, there's a StarMcBucks over the road. Enjoy. We loved it - two of us and a small nephew, who thought it was almost the weirdest cafe he'd ever been in.The setting is nice, but what really made it was the chatter with the lady serving us. The galley is right next to our table (so all you health inspector types can see just how shipshape she keeps it) and we were nattering away whilst she worked. The food itself was great too: reasonably priced hot sandwiches for a cold day, or my Moroccan bean soup that was tasty, filling and hadn't ever seen the inside of a packet or tin. "Boat made", not home made.I love finding somewhere like this. Next time we're in Gloucester, we'll be back.

Only room for eleven or so. Makes for a great atmosphere with the owner and her sidekick providing not only tasty food but plenty of laughter and fun. Admittedly there are people trying to come on board all the time but it is a fairly quick turnaround and you meet all sorts. We really enjoyed the food and the company and will be back as soon as we can. Thank you.

I expected it to be cramped - it was. In winter or if you have even one bag and a coat that means you will be very uncomfortable. The menu is disappointingly brief and a bit overpriced. I don't mind quirky but I do expect comfort and an interesting menu. I also didn't appreciate being charged full whack for a child's sandwich. Children aren't really welcome not so much by the staff but the clientele.

This cafe is fantasticly quirky! The woman that owns the boat is brilliant, funny and always so welcoming. The cake is delicious and very cheap for such a large slab. Don't forget to moo for milk ;)

I previously reported the canal boat missing! Well it's certainly there, I must have visited on a Wednesday and as It's Vanessa's day off she sails away and enjoys the countryside and who can blame her!! Calling in today she has just got the leaflets for her Christmas menu's so best get booked in for some fresh food cooked right on the boat. The wood burning stove will add to the warmth of your welcome, always assured of a chat and a laugh. Oh and thanks for the lovely tea, Vanessa
