ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE Cup of tea and a cider £10.50 and service below par. Plenty of better places to sit and have a drink in the fresh air. Doesn't even have a pleasant outlook

Just like the previous reviewer found this is a small cocktail bar with a nice atmosphere and table service from friendly staff. Good menu of drinks ranging from Whitby Gin to the Caribbean spiced rums. Won’t find any deals here but the quality is good. No phone signal or WiFi if that’s your thing.

Found this lovely little French themed bar in the back streets of Whitby just by chance and we’re glad we did. Were made very welcome in a lovely cozy space and worked our way through probably too much of the drinks menu ! Can thoroughly recommend a visit to enjoy the cocktails, wine and good service

We popped in her for a quick drink and ended up having a few. The staff were so friendly and the cocktails were the real deal, delicious. Such a quirky and interesting bar. The only issue….it closes too early. Lots of people came in on Thursday night but were turned away because last orders was called. It’s such a shame because the vibe was great but it tapered off too early because of the early closing time.

A small bar with waitress service . It was the most expensive bar we visited with 2 large glasses of wine costing £21.00 , also lacking in atmosphere.

Excellent,a great addition to Whitby. A large selection of quality wines plus cocktails and beers for those who prefer them The service matches the quality of the wines. A relative small inside bar with seating outside in fine weather Try and enjoy.

I am local to Whitby and I have spent a lot of time in local venues, not sure that's a good thing😆 This venue in particular is one that I frequent often, not just once!! When on holiday. Reviews are great because anyone with half a brain can see that Cafe Montmartre reviews are pretty much all great (for good reason), and a couple of poison reviews will never change that. If a bad review is written then my mind always goes to........how did you behave in said venue? Are you one of these that goes on holiday and believes it's absolutely fine to behave badly? Perhaps the way you do back home, or are you respectful, polite, and especially aware of other customers?. If you are going to Montmatre and intending on being rude, Chavy, or your the type to lie in a review, then I suggest you go to a bar that is.....more you! The reasons why my friends and I love this hidden gem, are the following... 1. Fresh cocktails made in front of your smiling faces, that taste ....on another level. 2. Zero tolerance on abuse to staff. 3. Friendly, (adult) company, with like minded respectful customers. 4. No shouting and screaming, idiots, chavs, or anyone in general with low social skills. 5. How anyone can say the staff are terrible 😆 Montmatre is known for it's amazing staff, in particular the deputy manager who never stops smiling and looking after people. She is to customer service, what water is to plants, it is that simple she is amazing, a true one off. Please do not listen to the review below me, as I am positive it was from the many!!! Rude tourists we get here that simply do not know how to behave around civilised customers, and this is clearly a revenge review from someone who went their once!! And couldn't behave like animals so they spat the dummy. Not many venues I would give 10/10 for everything, but I would the Cafe. Simply don't bother turning up to this intimate little gem, if you can't control yourself.......its not that kind of place. Unlike some who write reviews? Café Montmatre has class. Kind regards A G. Arriving in Whitby for a weekend of sight seeing and fun with my friends, we walked past cafe montmarte at around 10:30am. We peaked through the windows and admired the quaint little bar and promised ourselves we’d go back once it opened that day. Around 2pm that same day we arrived and walked in, the owner was stood in the bar… we stated how lovely his bar was and said that we had been wanting to come in since we saw it. He looked at us and gave us a grunt… we found a little table with 3 chairs and another couple came in roughly 5 mins after. We’d been looking at the menu and saying between us what we were going to have. The owner walked straight past us and served the couple before us :/ so we waited and said nothing, then a lovely waitress came from upstairs and took our order. We watched and waited while they made our cocktails which were some of the best cocktails we have ever had, the owner certainly knew his family way around his bar and made a 10/10 “old fashioned” Once we were ready to leave we took our glasses over to the bar and he started up a lovely conversation with us. Suprised by his sudden nice nature we got chatting and then said we’d come back later and said it was our friends birthday so maybe she could have a birthday shot. He said “absolutely if you come back” At 5pm we called back in for another drink. We ordered more cocktails and sat nearer the bar this time, the bar was quite busy by this point. Baring in mind there’s only about 9 tables. I smiled at the owner and went over and said, how that birthday shot before we leave then :) He stood behind the bar, stared me straight in the eyes and with the most awful look he said “who do you think you are” I was in shock, I actually thought he was joking and even asked him “are you joking 🙃” his reply “DO NO TRY AND DISRESPECT ME IN MY BAR!” I just stood there and look led at him so confused, my friend asked what was happening and I said I had no idea, by this point the owner got louder so that all the customers turned and looked. He said I swore in his face and tried to disrespect him? By this point he got me quite angry as I could see he was trying to make a scene and embarrass us for whatever reason. Me and my friend got up and left, a couple of harsh words were said on us leaving but they were warranted after how he’d spoke to me. Amazing bar and drinks ruined by a very rude man who is the owner. Couldn’t believe it. Avoid if you can’t stand rude little men

Nice looking place offering table service, shame the waitress didn’t realise that would have ordered another drink but she disappeared so left, paying the guy behind the bar who didn’t seem if he cared. Won’t. Be back and we are local in January when you need locals!

This charming, atmospheric, intimate, friendly little place plays classic French songs (French exchange with the school in the sixties, anyone?) and serves glorious espresso martinis, so good we came back on our last night in Whitby for more. They were best on the night where two delightful French (I believe) women were behind the bar. I wish somewhere like this would open near me.

Fabulous!!!! Loved the gorgeous location and the old building - perfect for a Montmartre inspired bar/cafe......felt like I was in the french movie "Amelie"....... So.......a rainy December night, the welcoming, warm, cosy lights twinkling through the antique windows (anyone familiar with Lapin Agile in Paris will love this.....) coaxed us inside.... We entered through the little rickety door to a gorgeous bar/cafe stuffed with everything french, and were warmly greeted by a lovely man behind the bar (Sunday 10th December). Charles Aznavour was gently crooning in the background, a couple of regulars installed at the bar - all lovely. Husband and I chose a couple of "hot toddies" from the imaginative drinks menu........"Marie's Curie" (hot rum, toffee syrup, apple) and "Edith Piaf" (hot gin, raspberry and pomegranate, lime) - they arrived in large retro glass mugs on silver saucers - perfect... As we soaked up the atmosphere I had a couple of questions for the barman - any chance of playing some really old vintage french chanson, and did he have a pack of playing cards? "Oui" to both questions. We had a wonderful time with our delicious, clever drinks, our card games, the beautiful songs, and watching more customers arrive to soak up the magic. How much did our evening cost, including un petit tip for the barman? £15 - how good is that? We will be back - hopefully we will meet the genius behind this concept next time - Monsieur Jean Claude.... Chapeau Monsieur, chapeau 😉

I had checked on TripAdvisor if this cafe/bar was dog friendly and understood that it was…. But we were turned away with our small dog and told we had to sit outside. Mid November on a damp and drizzly night was not an option. We, as a couple with a dog, have traveled extensively in France and our dog has always been welcomed, in fact really included…. If Cafe Montmarte is proclaiming to be “French” you really need to revisit your ethos as the French welcome dogs, as do most other cafe/bars in Whitby…. We spent our money elsewhere!

We come to Whitby regularly for the Goth Festival (but we mainly come to Whitby because it’s Whitby!!). We discovered Cafe Monmartre in Oct 22 and returned again in Oct 23. The service, quality of cocktails and cordiality of the team running this place was great then and just as great now. The staff make you feel so welcome that this place feels like home. I heartily recommend this lovely little cafe for a coffee or something a little more grown-up. Ignore any negative reviews about this place - they are simply unfounded. Happy Halloween Cafe Monmartre team - looking forward to seeing you all again in 2024.

While wandering around Whitby we have stopped off a couple of times for their lovely pumpkin spiced rum latte’s. The young lady who serves you is lovely. She also brought our dog some treats which our dog loved. We’ll worth a stop off for a great coffee and nice service. Holly says thanks for the treats. X

First visit. First impression delightful location. Extremely poor / processed quality food (not uncommon with many cafes/tea shops). Very small slice of cake and eclair with equally small dollop ice cream, cup of tea and mug coffee cost £12.70. As with the venue people seem nice. Accept dogs (which is great). Suggest review and improve quality of food and presentation. Leaving a used cigarette ashtray on table not indicative of professional service.

We are staying locally a d wish we had found this pub earlier in the week. A warm welcome a d great food. My husband had chicken pie and i had the sea bass. Good portions, well cooked and piping hot. We had bread and butter pudding and rice pudding afterwards. Again both excellent 👌.

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

I booked this venue for my son's 40th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble, and they even offered to step in when we didn't think the disco was going to come! Lovey and clean, excellent room.
