We come here for the amazing Kung Po chicken and great atmosphere. The owner is always friendly and remembers me and my 3 girls.

... Unless you're looking for a very traditional Chinese offering (i.e not our Anglicised idea of Chinese food). As, that seems to be the focus here - and quite popular. There's also a traditional café menu, served until 3.30pm. Cooked breakfasts, omelettes etc. I ordered an omelette, and got told (not particularly clearly, nor apologetically) that it would be a very long time. Which was strange as a) it's an omelette, b) it wasn't mega busy. I decide to wait. Most annoyingly my coffee doesn't arrive until the same time as my omelette (20 mins later) Food tasted good, just terrible service. Really didn't feel particularly welcome. It's also not great value. And the restaurant itself was cold. Shame, because there's no other café on this Street as far as I know

Not particularly busy inside but nice tea and sausage and egg sandwich. Attentive and friendly service. Big menu. Clean and well presented decor.

My girlfriend and I always seem to pop in if we go for a walk or fancy a milkshake, which are just the best in our opinion. They do a great selection of food, ranging from a breakfast, sandwiches, burgers soup, salads, panini and large amount of mains to have, and not forgetting all the tea and coffees also the large selection of drinks. They also have ‘Asian Street food’ which is served after 4:30pm that sounds amazing. Highly recommend 😄

I pop in here often at the weekend for breakfast and sometimes lunch. The owners are nice, it's clean and the prices are okay and it has 4 out of 5 for the Scores on the Door ratings. Quite a large menu and is open some evenings and it also sells alcohol. There is parking out the front and down the side road, so no problems there.

I know we are all supposed to eat healthily, but every so often you just need a full English breakfast. Never an easy plate to pull off, but the metro cafe does a truly wonderful job of providing the full English, with a great cup of coffee. With parking close by, it's not a complicated place, but judge it on the food and the price and you will leave happy. A great community cafe, with students and locals enjoying all that it offer.

We went there for dinner menus (only available for evenings) full of far eastern taste. I happened to spot this by passing a while back but we had ZERO expectations as the place looked like a regular cafe in student area, plus I know good oriental food by working for years near New Malden (the biggest Korean town outside of Korea), and by growing up near China town in another country. Oh gawd, how wrong was I, their food is simply AMAZING!! We ordered "butter prawns" £5.95 thinking it is one of those frozen pre-made tempura prawns with some sauce, but what was brought out was this giant shrimp dished with explosions of flavours! The ingredients are fresh and first class, and their generous use of spices were unreal for the price! I would expect to pay more than double in London while probably not tasting so nice. We then went on to mains (nasi goreng £8.50 and pad thai £9.25), again, these were packed with fresh herbs and spices, with loads of veg and meat/shrimps. The whole portions were generous and both dish tasted great. Very authentic cooking, DEFINITELY not a mock-off Asian food. And what a price! It's just unbelievable value. Their menu contained various interesting choices, from Kimchi-Chige to Teriyaki ramp steak, and I wish I could just try them all. When we left we were discussing what to try on our next visit! If you like Koren/Chinese/Thai food, you must, must try this place. Don't dismiss it like I did, and you will NOT regret it. What a gem!

I go to Cafe Metro about once a week. I've been consistently impressed with the service and food. Food comes out quickly and is always hot. The menu is diverse with choices ranging from traditional English breakfast to east Asian cuisine. The food is always flavorful and the dinner menu is especially impressive. The owners are always welcoming and accommodating to their customers.

Been here for a traditional fry-up and it is usually busy. Get a full English with coffee/tea for less than £6. Bargain. Yum.

I have been coming to this cafe on and off for years. The staff are always friendly and even if I haven't been in for a while, they always remember my usual order. I can't vouch for the other food on the menu, but the all day breakfast is very good in terms of both quality and value. Sometimes they make mistakes like forgetting my extra order of mushrooms, but they always rectify any problems without quibble. I will be back again soon!

It is due to the menu, and the incredibly cheap prices; as well as its location on the edge of the University Campus - between it and some of the halls of residence - that in many student circles Cafe Metro is known as "the hangover cafe". There's a fairly mundane selection: sandwiches, coffees, the occasional hot meal - but what they really specialise in are the all-day full English breakfasts. They stand out, actually, as quite possibly the only dish on the menu that I can honestly call "good". The bacon is generally a little fatty, but cooked well enough; the sausages are decent; the beans are good; even the fried eggs - which I usually dislike - are nice. The wait time, unfortunately, is usually quite a long time. In the middle of the afternoon, the cafe is probably going to be around half-full - and it generally takes over thirty minutes after ordering for a dish to appear, if that. Away from the breakfasts, the selection of other dishes that I've sampled has been pretty poor. I've endured bacon sandwiches with sauce that I didn't ask for, with more fat than actual bacon, and with a various mixture of bread from toasted to cold. The cafe also actually holds the distinction of having last year achieved creating the single worst baguette I have ever eaten, and only two weeks ago on our last visit my partner had a coffee delivered to her that felt like it had just come out of the fridge - thankfully the manager replaced it free of charge. The cafe also does not take cards, though there is a free cashpoint directly outside so this should not present too much of a problem. We generally visit every two months or so as, despite their incredible faults, they do actually make a surprisingly good English breakfast at Cafe Metro - but don't expect much more than a hangover from anything else.
