Cafe Le Raj in South Oxfordshire

We were staying in the area. Did a quick search for Indian takeaway. Wow, superb service and honestly amazing food. Hope to try again when in the area. Highly recommend, great quality and great value.

I met a friend here for dinner, we arrived at 6pm and received good friendly service. Food was promptly served and was very tasty and fresh. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant as tables steadily filled up. Overall we enjoyed both the food and the experience and will be returning in the future.

Originally told my food would be 50mins so ok that’s fine, 124mins later after calling my food arrived, food was pretty much cold, san paneer had 4 bits of cheese and the lime pickle resembles a minty yoghurt, I normally use Asiana spice but decided to try something different, I wish I hadn’t at all. Having to reheat my food and add extras myself to make it nicer makes me wonder if I should just have cooked myself. Not impressed and I wouldn’t recommend. A shame.

Excellent meal at CafeLeRaj: service from moment one, until we left was exceptional. Friendly staff, highly attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. Best poppadoms and sauces. Main of king Prawn tikka highly recommended. Think they blend their own spices. Didn’t taste processed. The side dishes (okra, aubergine, paneer spinach) were delicious and not oily. Top experience.

I got terribly sick immediately after eating dinner here with friends and I've Never had food poisoning from a restaurant before ! Violently sick all night, vomitting, continuously , couldn't sleep, awful diarrhea for the following 3 days, couldn't eat or keep anything down or face food for the next 3 days after eating here either. I wrote a review before on Google but they never responded, replied or apologized. I really resent the £70+ I paid for our meals , to be that ill like that & the food wasn't even enjoyable, what a complete waste of money, worst £70+ I've ever spent. They lied on their online menu as well because we'd tried to get a takeaway away from them the night before & phoned with an order, they answered & said they were closed, they should've updated their online information And when we arrived & entered the restaurant the next evening, they were very unwelcoming, unfriendly, weird, like what do you want attitude, what do they think, 3 people entering a restaurant ?! Only one of the waiters was nice, the rest made me feel uncomfortable.

Don't like 4number reasons: friends & I came2 Henley Tue.eve 47, hungry, looked 4takeaways, 2 Indian said open -23:30hrs, we spent time parousung menu, decided what wanted, compiled order, phoned, man answered, said they'd closed b4 advertised opening times so next eve my friends wanted 2go2 here cos set hearts on, couldn't 2find by Google, passed people on street, 2helpful men knew it, their fav, best here & regular customers 4 12 years! Advised we mention their names 2get discount &/or free complimentary @Bailey's shot,directed, found, these lovely guys said they'd follow after anyway so d see in bit. Arrived, unusual front like house, 2 men said, no smile, unwelcoming:~ "What do you want?"! How rude ! "We've come 4a meal" they led us 2table right @back of long narrow empty restaurant, not 1single customer, only family, we friendly to them. My friend asked could we sit@front near window? They said yeah sit where you like. On set, layed tables, bottles of water, 1@table, we thought they're gratis as didn't ask 4water but if we had, we would've asked for a jug of tap water, that would've been what we wanted. We opened & poured the water in 3 glasses betwyus which finished the 70cl bottle. Only at the end in the bill, we'd been charged £3:50p for this +10%! I objected, we did not request this! He, the miserable , unfriendly owner / manager Raj said well you opened it, nothing is free! The nice men who we'd met earlier came in & they seated on the other side of the bar, we said they'd recommended them & guided us to them & said that we could get a complimentary drink or discount, the owner / manager said no nothing is free, we don't give anything as a thank you for your custom or their 12 years of custom, he said in face they charge them more ! I was beginning to get a not very good impression, I said to the manager Raj, why can't you smile ? We kept smiling at the staff & being very pleasant indeed, I said a smile doesn't hurt & it improves relationships, he agreed & cracked half a smile on one side of his mouth in a jokey reluctant manner. We placed our order & the food arrived, my 2 friends were happy with their meals I think, well one was anyway, I didn't like mine, it was nothing, not special, not tasty, just plain, below average. The Only good thing I can say about this place was the new member of staff they had who's only been with them about a day, over from Bangladesh as family friends to commute to study at University in London, he's called Asad, we are Christians & & we struck up a very interesting conversation with him as a Muslim about God, religion, faith, the Bible, Qua'an & the conditions of the World, etc. That was the only enjoyable factor, such a nice young man. When it got to about 10:15pm they started trying to clear our plates before we had finished & standing directly behind us waiting for us to finish which made me feel most uncomfortable, he said the porter was waiting to finish washing up, they'd only had us 5 customers or so all evening! Even though their website says they close @23:30, they were trying to get us out @22:15, I finished & handed my plate, he presented the unitemised bill, I like to see how it is tallied up, just the total of £71:60p, my friend suggested I add 10% tip so I paid £78:60p without knowing that was correct, we'd only had 5 pints of beer each at £4:50 / £4:95 & 3 mains, 2 rice, 1 nan & even the 3 single poppadoms with relishes weren't complimentary, they must've cost more than £4:00, most Indian restaurants I've ever been to, give a pile of popodoms & even top them up, they restrict it to 1 per head unless ask for more & charge. They are Very mean indeed ! V. Unfriendly, money grabbing. We agree placing water bottles on tables is sly, cunning trick 2mislead us it's given, we use & get charged unknowing, we don't think 2ask, is free ?! Shouldn't B put on tables ! I'd never pay £3:50 4still water, they'd sparkling but didn't offer us a choice. When we got back home, I vomited violently all night, had no sleep, had the runs for days after, I've never been sick that much !!!

We popped in quite late, the staff could not of been more welcoming and polite. The food was excellent with great flavour and served in good time. You could sense how proud the team were of the restaurant and for that reason, we will be coming back!

We had an unbelievable occurrence in here. Six of us sat down for what was going to be a lot of money spent. First of all, there was nobody in the restaurant so that was odd, but it was early. We all got the impression that we wasn’t welcome as they didn’t seem interested. We eventually ordered beers, wine & water and 12 poppadoms. The atmosphere and rudeness of the staff was terrible and extremely surprising give the previous reviews. After some awkward exchanges and clear bluntness from one of the staff, we all decided to go somewhere else. We couldn’t believe that they looked surprised but off we went. We all found another Indian restaurant and spent £345 in there. Unbelievable that they lost our business due to the staff.

Disappointed/disgusted by the customer service! Totally humiliated just now at 20:45hrs!! Won’t go Into the detail but just paid and walked out. To the manager: You know what you have done so learn from this mistake. First time I’ve used this place and the last. You “The manager” need to understand the basics of customer service and good manners, its the basic principle of any good business. Next week I will eat over the road at Asiana Spice where the table side manners are a little more (let’s say polite). Sad really because I normally eat out in a group of six/eight people every week when out on business, especially in Henley. This time I was on my own and I have just learnt how you are treated very differently if you are a lone visitor.

Fantastic food, wonderful service and great hospitality . One of the most outstanding Indian restaurants in Henley. Value for money and the quality is superb! Staff were great and tailored the order to our requirements . I had a chicken Zala and the other half had a tandoori sea bass. To sum up this restaurant in one word - exquisite!

Ambience ok, prices ok, food ok but the waiter was totally miserable and somewhat inhospitable. Its USP?....throwing cutlery at customers!

Having visited the restaurant it was excellent, the food was extremely good with a great choice of menu, the staff are very friendly and accommodating nothing too much trouble, would highly recommend, certainly it would take some beating which is why we will be going back before we go home from our holiday

food always good when order, and always ready on time. Ordered online last night, and for the first time, there is a Surcharge of 50p on the bill. When i queried this with the restaurant, they said it was added by the person who created the online ordering app. There is nothing on the website to say this Surcharge would be added. Order by phone now - and avoid yet another scam.

The food was good and not expensive. The Thali which you do not often find is worth a try. A bottle of water is on the table when you arrive, the price was added to my bill even though it was not used, I asked for it to be deducted and it was. Left a bad taste.

Lovely weekend away with friends , found this lovely restaurant on TripAdvisor, excellent food , first class service along with sensible pricing, place was buzzing but staff coped very well, next time in Henley we'll be back

We looked at the many restaurants in Henley and after meeting RAJ we chose Cafe le RAJ. The service and food was exceptional and presented so well. On a hot evening it was so pleasant to have aircon . The restaurant is quite deceiving as it is much larger than it looks from the outside . It is a must if looking for quality and fresh Asian food . My Jalfrezi was exceptional as-well as my wife's Biriani . The grated onion salad was lovely too. The whole team tried so well to make it a gorgeous evening and succeeded so well. Looking forward to coming back !

I've eaten here a few times with a group of friends and we've always been very impressed. We enjoy ordering a large range of the vegetarian side dishes and sharing them between us: the chana masala and the tarka dall are my particular favourites. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

We booked a table for 7 and turned up a little early which wasn’t a problem at all for the very friendly and helpful staff. Although there was not track and trace, the staff were following the government guidance on face covering, hand sanitising etc. we felt very safe. Now onto the food, absolutely spot on and delicious, very generous portions and certainly one of the tastiest meals I’ve had for a while. Cost wise, it was exceptional value for such great quality food. I’d recommend this place and will definitely return when I return to Henley. Many thanks Cafe Le Raj, superb meal.

A lovely experience from start to finish the staff were so charming and helpful helping us choose from the menu and the food was so good and certainly not overpriced.They were most helpful when my elderly Mother got a bit tired and they got her a taxi and helped her with no fuss and I thank them for that.

Booked a table, after having an excellent takeaway a few days before. The staff were very professional and adhered to the Covid safety rules. We had another fantastic meal, the vegetable dishes we ordered were so fresh. We had chicken and king prawn dishes that were so delicious. It is the best Indian ever. I felt very relaxed, and it was our first meal out since lockdown. The menu caters for everyone.Well done to all the staff for ensuring it was a perfect evening.

Visited Cafe Le Raj for the first time last night and I'm sure it won't be the last. The food was good and while I may have had better, certainly not at the prices at Le Raj. Excellent value for money and would definitely recommend for a cheap, informal evening out.

Staff attentive, food felt very dated, asked for chicken tikka but got flavoured chicken, no spice indication on menu, good points real napkins, real flannel at the end of meal, reasonably priced.

Went early evening for dinner. Place was quiet but soon filled up. Food was ok, good value mainly. Main issue for me was the time ...... I hadn’t realised they clearly give priority to take away orders ....... so while someone ordering takeaway can pick up a meal in 20 ‘mins we had to wait an hour for starters to arrive, and another 45 mins for mains. When the mains arrived it seems to me they were rushed - nothing was really hot, looked like just warmed through at most. Very disappointed overall ...... have been before on a mid week night and it was much much better.

Cafe le Raj is so fantastic to dine in or get a takeaway. The staff are just lovely and the food is sublime. Friends travel a long way to have a chicken pathia from this restaurant. It's just insane and the best I've eaten in the whole of the UK

Visited this restaurant last night with a mate and we had some really nice food. My friend has a rogan josh which is a mild dish. I had a prawn jalfrani which I was expecting to be hot but came out mild. My dish was serve on a skillet and to be honest I found the gravy a little on the dry side, this however doesn’t mean the dish was bad, in fact it was quite the opposite!! It was rich in flavour, the prawns were large and plenty-full and I washed it down with a kingfisher. If I’m in Henley-on-Thames again I will visit here again to try the other dishes on offer.

These guys are just the best. We have had dinner in the restaurant several times and the food has always been fabulous, including brilliant vegetarian options. This weekend, they catered for a buffet-style lunch for us and 20 family members - perfectly on time, perfectly organised and perfectly delicious (although we will probably be enjoying curry for a few more days!) We’d highly recommend Raj and his team.

Went here while camping in Henley and it was a really friendly environment. Staff were friendly and the food was really good and it was packed with locals on a Wednesday night so must be a good sign

Our son Charlie has loved Cafe le raj since he was 6 (now 13) and it has gotten better. Three of us had a curry last night 30th July 2019 and it was superb! one aubergine dish was off the charts! Great quality and great taste.Charlie was very happy.

We were travelling up the River Thames and stopped in Henley for the night. We had a take away and every dish was delicious and the chicken was melt in the mouth.

My delivery turned up wrong and unfortunately, it was the main course. I ordered a chicken naga WITH sauce (proven and accepted by them because I ordered online) and it arrived dry. Without sauce how can you eat the naan, rice, sides etc? To me, the sauce is integral to the whole thing.

¡Pollo crudo! ! ! Hemos estado aquí antes y fue muy agradable. El personal se disculpó por el hecho de que el pollo estaba crudo y quedó claro que podríamos tener cualquier otra cosa, pero mi compañero perdió el apetito. Es una pena, ya que normalmente es muy sabroso.

Perfect Friday night curry, great service and food, restaurant busy but food came in timely manner. Daughter joined us mid way through our meal and although she was not eating they made her welcome with complimentary poppadums :)

Ate early 7.30pm on a Thursday evening, initially we were the only customers but others arrived, still quiet though.

Todos encontramos la comida para no ser muy sabrosa, el pollo estaba seco en algunos platos y las salsas eran sosa. Los camareros se apresuraron y, aunque no esperamos mucho, no nos impresionó en general.

Service very in & out (perhaps overwhelmed being busy on a Wednesday?) with long delays to order and receive food, and running out of drinks/not being replenished when we asked.

When the delivery driver made the second attempt to deliver, the food was lukewarm and not up to the usual standard = very disappointing. Delivery was supposed to be within 40 minutes but was more like 1 hour 40. Used this place many times but no more.

Nice and fresh tasting curry, nice mixed grill,and friendly service. Difficult to park but they did bring out to the car which was great.

We were on a fund raising event walking the length of the Thames. We called the event The Thames Trudge, our base was a boat on the Thames. We were all very hungry after a days walk and ordered a curry from the Cafe Le Raj in Henley on Thames , it was Fantastic meal. It was delivered by Taxi to the boat, excellent service thank you very much.

Being unfamiliar to Henley we found this gem via Google. What a find. The staff were lovely, service faultless and the quality of the food/portion sizing and menu prices were spot on. Yes I would recommend this to family and friends and if I was to visit the area again I would definitely go back for a meal there. A lovely lively ambience to the restaurant. Not too noisy or too dull, the constant flow of diners says a lot about the place not to mention the constant ringing for telephone orders. (This is praise not a criticism)

The quality of food is very good, and it is clear that the cook is very well skilled. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is quite dark, the music is a bit too loud. If you dare to not order any alchool or starters, you will be served in a very rude manner. If you are ready for that, it is worth to eat in there despite is a bit over priced.

Great meal last night after the Henley Christmas fair.. As always the chicken zala is superb....served on a sizzling plater...a spicy deeply flavoured dish...thibk Indian fajitas. The side of Bhini was excellent...dried fried okra with perfect spicing..

Such rude staff with no manners - it is the wort experience I've had out. Food is watery and bland, cooked badly, will not be coming back. Last time I was told to pay for the raw chicken they served me and I was shouted at. The only decent place to have a curry in henley is Spice Merchant. Nobody should put up with the way this 'restaurant' treats people.

Cenamos con unos amigos en el fin de semana. Nos sentamos al lado de donde el teléfono era para pedir comida para llevar. Era muy ruidoso y transmitía la sensación de comer en una oficina. Nos costó conseguir la atención del camarero, y había pocos de turno, una vez que no comenzó a tomar nuestro pedido, luego el teléfono sonó y se excusaba. No, la atención al cliente en el teléfono en su pedido antes llegamos nosotros! Cuando finalmente tomó nuestra orden el otro camarero era agradable y atento. La comida era normal mi pollo era un poco seco, otras tenían chuletas de cordero tandoori, que eran un poco más preparado a pesar de que específicamente les pedimos que sean de color rosa. En general, no es gran valor o ambiente. La comida estaba bien para el estándar para llevar, pero no ir allí de nuevo.

Si voy para un indio en Henley siempre elijo Café Le Raj, ya sea en una gran noche de trabajo con capacidad para 20 de nosotros o simplemente con un amigo en una noche tranquila entre semana.

Went with 3 mates over Easter. We all like our curries - some even have their own tandoors. The food here was different to most other Indian restaurants, they was a mix of dishes and spices that you normally dont get. Some dishes had a hint of Chinese about them with some sweeter, stickier ingredients. Still the traditional Cobra or Kingfisher larger - it would have been good to see something new here too - but no. All of us agreed - best curry in a long while. Now I have to find a reason to return.

Nothing exciting about the food but nothing bad either would class as good middle of road Indian. Had a nice feel with a buzz going on. The staff need to buck their ideas up as they were very surly no welcoming smiles going on. Change that attitude and it would be a much improved experience.

I used to be a regular here but stopped going because of the 1* hygiene rating. They did a major refurbishment last year and the rating has gone up to 3* (that's still not great), so I thought I'd revisit.Even though the restaurant was deserted (it was mid-week), the first impression was very good – the narrow room has been widened and redecorated and looks very good. Sadly, the food was a real let down. Tough, chewy slivers of lamb in a nondescript sauce. The chapatis were good though.

Fantastic staff, they could not do enough for us. Fantastic service even though we were just in for a take away. They offered us a few tasty morsels whilst our food was being prepared. Undecided on our choice (we always get the same thing) we asked for some inspiration. He asked us what type of food appealed to us and he came up with an amazing curry. Thank you!

After being a loyal customer for many years, disgusted by their obvious lack of customer service, manners and ability to cook - raw chicken and not even a full refund, let alone a proper apology? Enter at your own peril. What a shame we used to like this place.

Served RAW CHICKEN AND REFUSED A REFUND!!!!! Then asked if we were joking when we asked for the refund???? Worst ever and being an Indian, this is NOT acceptable Indian food (and I'm not a posh Indian) Avoid at all costs. Rude staff and should be shut down. Enter at your own risk....

My husband and I always go to Cafe Le Raj and always had a nice experience. We love their curry far better than any of the other Indians in Henley and we've tried them all!

Can safely say that this was the worse takeaway we've ordered in over 20 years. When we ordered we were told it would be 30-45 mins, waited over an hour and a half and it came cold with items missing. Food looked diabolical - really poor service. Managed to get our money back after four phone calls, would not recommend to anybody and would never order from here again.

Visited on a weekday with some friends. We were greeted with big smiles from the waiters whom then sat us down and made us feel very welcomed. The service was flawless but the food was just on another level! I tried the chicken zala which was just fantastic - rich in flavour with an outstanding taste! I have visited Cafe Le Raj on numerous occasions while visiting Henley and it has never disappointed us. Personally I think its the best Indian in Henley without fail. I would highly recommend anyone to try Cafe Le Raj.

Had two meals from here six months apart. It might be a coincidence but I was very ill. It's a shame as I know a lot of people use this restaurant and have recommended to others.

I agree with the previous reviewer, thus place has lost its way with poor service and generic bland food , I too wouldn't risk a place that has one star , certainly wouldn't take the family.

I've eaten at le raj for years,always enjoyed the food and banter with the staff,I couldn't believe it when I walked past yesterday and there food hygiene rating is 1 out of 5,over the years it was always 4 to 4.5,something has drastically gone wrong to drop that much suggests a serious problem,it's strange I had a takeaway a few weeks ago and I was ill, never had that before in all the years I've eaten there,AVOID TILL IT IMPROVES your colon will thank you.

Been here a few times. Amazing food and the staff are very friendly all the time. Food is very nice and priced well. Have been to get a takeaway, they gave us drinks and poppadoms while we waited. Great place to eat.

We had a takeaway. I had a madras and my wife had a Patia. Both were hotter than usual, but both tasted great. Free poppadoms and onion and mint sauce.I will definitely return.

Arrived as a family on holiday, greeted to a table for 4 without a smile- menus arrived 5 mins later along with drinks yes? Order drinks and shortly after food. Had poppadoms 3 3 & pickle tray £4.50 total rip off. Starters we had -chicken tikka, chicken pakora and mixed starter, when they arrived the chicken tikka was on the sizzler along with mixed starter on same sizzler, 1 piece of chicken,2 lamb bits and a sheek kebab tasty, so chicken tikka only had 4 pieces starter bit disappointed. Main meal we had king prawn madras -best madras I have ever tasted and beautiful big prawns, chicken shagorida new dish and chicken korma along with keema rice, boiled rice, egg rice and a cheese naan -cheese naan was terrible like feta cheese sprinkled on top. I was annoyed as we never got asked if our food was ok?? No manners like most restaurants do the right thing and ask if all is ok with food, not this one. Manager /owner appeared liked hitler! Not very pleasant at all. Shame really as food tasty. Other staff not polite either so no tip left unfortunately.

i had high expectation from this as the takeaway food is always great. We went about 6pm for dinner and we were the only two people in the restaurant. As we were waiting for service two men were bringing out what looked like a broken appliance through the restaurant to the point i had to scrape my chair in the let them past without catching me. We ordered the food and it was lovely as always the flavours are amazing. After we finished we placed our dirty napkins on the plate and was given a dirty look and a sigh as the staff picked our napkins off holding it at arms distance to put them into the bin making us feel awkward like we had done something wrong. Where else were we suppose to place out dirty napkins? We had ordered to much food so asked for it to be containered to take home, again we were greeted with a dirty look and a tut like we were doing wrong taking our paid for food home. half the foot didn't get containered and we only got a small bit of what we ordered to take. At not one point was the member of staff smily and friendly. Lovely food but shame about the staff! I wont be going back there again, i would rather get it as a take away in the comfort of my own home instead of being made to feel awkward.

We go to, or order from, Cafe Le Raj almost every week and love it! Without fail the food is delicious and the staff are more than friendly! I love that they will put together any dish you fancy if you just request what your looking for and nothing is ever too much in there! Even if you show up in a Sunday night at 10.30 pm you're welcomed with a smile and outstanding service! Love this place!

I have eaten at Cafe le Raj many times, and it remains my sit-down Indian restaurant of choice in Henley. A good home-concocted bright red dip lifts the popadoms above the average, and the onion bhajis are always light and crispy. Main courses vary, but the chef's specialities have never disappointed, and rices, dhals and breads are always first rate.

We didn't like the look of the one that was recommended and so came here instead.Service was very good, although one of the staff lacked language skills and had to bailed out by another.We ordered papadums followed by mains, no starters.When the papadums came out they were nicely cooked and the four sauces they were served with were each very flavoursome.We enjoyed these and ordered another.For mains we decided to try something different and went for chicken Raj Trivuzi and Kosha Lamb Chops.We ordered mushroom rice and a keema naan to share.The food was served piping hot and was different to other curries I have had in the past and very tasty.A fantastic sauce with hot chilli complemented the chicken, whilst the lamb was cooked to perfection.Overall we had no complaints at all. It only didn't get a five because we were both shattered after being at Tough Mudder all day, and didn't have our full appetites with us.

We ordered a take away - we were given an incomplete order so had to go back and pick up missing item - a main dish (we live 15 minutes away). The food was cold + terrible, v greasy poppadoms. No refund or apology, given a small bottle as beer. We will NEVER use this curry house again.

I visited with my husband during a short break in Henley-on-Thames. Starters were delicious, hot and freshly cooked. Mains came out cold, but quite tasty. In fairness they had asked us if we would like a break before our main course which seemed like a good idea, as we never like to eat in a hurry. Unfortunately though, I don't think they kept the food warm during our break, so I wish we'd asked for it straight away now. No excuse for this really, we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time as it was so early. The naan breads served with our mains were delicious, hot and fresh. We are very friendly people but attempts to engage the staff in any polite conversation fell on deaf ears. The staff are cool and aloof - we did not feel we could complain about the temperature of the food, so we ate what we could then left and put it down to experience. We won't be going there again. There was also the usual error with the bill when using TasteCard, with insufficient discount given. Again, we were just glad to get out of there, so didn't complain. The prices are very good - quite cheap actually. I still can't award 5 stars for value though as I think you get what you pay for. I am happy to spend more and get a better quality food and service.

Great restaurant to go to after copious pints - and staff are always very welcoming! However the tables at the rear of the small restaurant are very awkward to get to - and the tables are so close together! But the food's usually tasty and good value.

Gone there last nightWaited 45 mn to get the starters, which arrived cold and full of oil..And it was only starters.We left before the end of our meal - they argued for getting more money from us..As a summary, forget and run!

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome, the waiter took our coats and umbrella and showed us to our table, however, before our bums hit the seat we asked if we wanted poppadom, and which drink we would like. The speedy service didn't end there, my dish of pilau rice was taken out of my hand as soon as I emptied it as were the side plates of Bhajis and Bombay potatoes. The table was cleared (including tablecloth) as our knives and forks were put down and our bill appeared without being asked if we'd like any desserts or coffee. They weren't busy and it wasn't late so as far as we saw there was no need to rush us.On the plus side, the food was amazing and the Bhajis were the best I've had in along time just a shame it felt like we were in their way.

This is my Indian of choice in my home town, there are quite a few to choose from including the Spice Merchant if you want up market but assuming its a standard Indian at reasonable prices this is the go to Restaurant in Henley.Standard dishes are all there, service is excellent and a really nice pleasant decorCant go wrong if you want a curry in Henley.

I've been coming here on and off over the last 8 years, perhaps 7/8 times a year and have noticed a decline in standards, It's very inconsistent, sometimes good service/average meal and vice versa. It's a default choice for convenience but I wouldn't recommend it to the curry connoisseur. Functional and disappointing these days, not fresh and vibrant as it used to be.For those not acquainted it's a very small, thin restaurant, railway carriage like with shabby toilets. Henley doesn't do curry well sadly.

Took a friend Christmas Eve and had a great meal as usual. Have been several times now, great value for the area, friendly staff and fabulous food. Thanks, will be back soon.

A group of us went to this restaurant during the Henley- Christmas Festival.It is a small restaurant but pleasantly decorated. The staff were plentiful and on hand whenever they were needed. The food was good across the board. we order 6 different mains ranging from tikka masala - vindaloo - lamb chop. They all arrived at the same time as did the accompaniments. They made a chilli paneer even though it was not on the menu. It is not a cheap meal here but not excessively priced. I would happily return, but not in a rush.

Just had a meal her and must say it was excellent, I make Currys myself and this was something a will r devour to copy in future.it is a little cramped though oh and ask for tap water as the bottled water is £3.50

It's was my birthday last week and my nan offered to take me to dinner with my boyfriend for my birthday. Was a lovely surprise. However this soon didn't turn out the birthday meal I was expecting, on arrival they were pleasant and made us feel welcome, however once the food has been served everything went down hill from there. Not only did they forgot a portion of rice that we had ordered and once stated this they did not proceed to bring us the rice we ordered, the food was also very burn't and left a horrible after taste which ruined our taste buds for the rest of the meal. After politely complaining about the burnt food, they did not offer us another portion or even offer us to remove it from the bill or the table. Once the bill had arrived the waiter grabbed my Nan's credit card and the bill which at this point we had not even looked at the bill to see the price and continued to put the price into the machine until my nan stated that she wanted to look at the bill before paying. After politely asking to remove the burn't dish from the bill they refused and said that we should never of tried the dish if it was burnt, but how can you know a burnt meal is burnt if you haven't tried it? This made no sense to us. The manager continued to argue with us and was being very rude, was getting very forceful with his hand gestures and his attitude was atrocious. I work in customer service environment and I would not wish anyone to have the customer experience we did. After removing the burnt dish off the bill we paid for the meal and finished our wine and left the restaurant however the manager continued to argue with us as we was walking down the shop and down the street. He said we wasn't welcome again. I would like to state my nan was very polite in the way she complained and explained the rest of the food was gorgeous. I am not righting this to complain about the food however I am writing this about the poor customer service we received. I have never experienced such poor customer service. Shame because most the food was lovely, and would of returned however all the work employees were rude and the manager was atrocious! Luckily my nan has a good sense of humour and so do I, and just laughed it off, I still enjoyed the company on my birthday, but a shame about the choice of restaurant. Thank you Hollie

The place is nice, service good but the food is only average. I had a madras curry. The chicken was tasty made with breast meat, but at best the sauce was mild and bland.What really spoilt it for me was when the bill came and I discovered I had been charged £3.50 for a bottle of water. Come on people of Henley or visitors, either you have more money than sense or you are being ripped off. The water was poured as we arrived and almost automatically and before we got the menu in which the price is shown. I took this up with the man who appeared in charge so he won't be suprised at this review. Shame really as the place has a lot of potential.

Once again a lovely meal at cafe le raj. Excellent friendly customer service. Always recommend and the only place I will go for a really good Indian

The three of us visited for an evening meal on Friday during the Regatta week. We ran late, called them and they kept the booking for us. My friend enjoyed the Chicken Korma, I liked my Lamb Methi, both pillau rice and peshwari nan were fine. One of my party reported that the Lamb Dansak was bland, not spicy and unauthentic - he said he would not visit again. That dish perhaps should be avoided. Service held up reasonably well as it got very busy later. Tap water arrived after reminders, the glass of red wine was large. This was our first visit and worth another go.

Have been several times now. As already mentioned in other reviews the place is nothing to look at but you are assured of a warm welcome, wonderful food and great service. Oh and it the best value eatery in Henley

Tiny, dingy restaurant. The food and service are excellent. The chef cooked a separate dish for our five year old boy, who loved it. Spice of Henley.

Authentic tasting dishes and plenty to choose from the menu. The staff are very polite and attentive.

Visited on a Saturday night, quite a small place but service was very good. and the prices i thought were excellent value for Henley !Food was excellent, couldnt fault it !

The entrance to the restaurant is somewhat shabby and the tables are squashed in but don't let this put you off. The food is fresh and very good. We went on a Friday evening and the service was also good. The food was delivered quickly to the table and the portions generous - especially the starters. Prices are in line with the area and seemed very reasonable.
