Really lovely food, great service, friendly food and a good price. Really good cuppa. We had veggie breakfast baps…really nice and made to order so hot and fresh

After an overnight flight and wandering Chester, waiting for our hotel room, we came across the Cafe at the Walls. It's a quaint, small cafe right next to the old walls. I had a great Full English while my wife had a pastie. Both were great and just what we needed. The young woman serving us was very nice and we appreciated how freshly cooked the food was. Definitely worth checking out for lunch if you are walking the walls in Chester.

Excellent full english breakfast cooked to perfection.Why bother going to spoons for ultra thin bacon & hash brown overkill when you can get a full english for £7.95???

Fabulous cafe. A little gem of a place. We had the baguettes, one with beef ,onion and mushroom.The other with lamb & minted gravy. Both cooked to perfection! The side portion of chips were lovely too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We both enjoyed the meal and will certainly return in future.

not a bad cafe,but a rip off with butter.charge extra for butter on jackets.this is not stated on menu like it should have been

Food was lovely and hot. Portion sizes were great and we were served promptly too. The only reason I am giving it a 4/5 is because I noticed the floor was really dirty. It hadn't been raining or wet outside when we visited but the floor looked like it needed a good mop. We would return however as the food was of good quality.

Amazing food , amazing staff very welcoming we had travelled as a trip away to chester and saw this place online as one of the best cafes to try so we read the reviews and had to give it a go. Partner tried the burger I had the baguette with pork and gravy ,large portion sizes other half said his burger was cooked to perfection and he loved the homemade chips salad and coslaw that accompanied his meal ,my baguette was nice and crispy plenty gravy apple sauce lovely chunky pieces meat on it . He only left his salad as stuffed himself on everything else but I cleared mine plus a few of his chips as I had to try them too. We will definitely be returning and would recommend others try it.

We wandered around Chester looking for a nice breakast they all looked much the same until we saw this cafe and they had gluten free options available. We popped in and a warm welcome was given , we ordered the breakfast and i asked if they had gluten free bread for my wifes toast, she was then offered gluten free sausage . We had a superb freshly cooked breakfast . Also noticed lots of other gluten free options along with different milks like soya and oat. Its a little gem and well worth a visit.

We had the best scones here this afternoon, just out the oven and still warm. Staff are lovely and helped our daughter choice a cake she’d like. Overall a great cafe in a great location.

Looks nice from the outside But it's dirty inside it was 10.10am on Sunday and the floor was filthy, the menu & table was sticky, the window sill was full of dead flies, It was dirty Shame as it could be so nice Prices good But breakfast was very fried... Wouldn't go back Its needs attention to detail Noticed someone else has said the same but the owner argued it, not good Take the comment and improve there's plenty of other places like you that offer breakfast, you have to be better

Called at Cafe at the walls for 2 takeaway breakfast cobs and drinks to go and eat the the river. Food excellent ( breakfast cob sausage bacon and egg and another vegetarian option ) well filled and big size cob. The young girl who served us was friendly and welcoming. Food menu seemed a decent and reasonably priced. Brilliant Brekkie Would recommend a visit

Very nice location but Caffe is dirty inside and toilet is shockingly dirty. Food was ok but quite a few flies around.

I can't fault this cozy Cestrian corner cafe. Food is all high quality ingredients. Tea is very tasty. Staff polite. We had the all day full English which was sooo tasty. Will be back here again and again.

Slightly off the beaten track, we stumbled across this lovely little cafe while aimlessly wandering. I had the full English and my partner had a sausage and egg bap. Everything was freshly made and it was really good quality food, presented beautifully and served by a young lady who was very courteous and friendly. A lovely little cafe.

Cafe at the walls is located next to the city walls in the historic city of Chester. Tucked out of the way of the busy city centre, it’s location near to the Rover Dee makes it a place worth seeking out. It’s the last building at the end of some gorgeous Georgian town houses and is itself a converted house. Inside, there is seating for 16 people and the decor is fresh and bright. Lime green painted walls match the seating and creates a welcoming atmosphere. There is a bay window which is home to a collection of teapots and paperback books. The books are advertised for sale to support Carla Lanes animal charity. The menu is very traditional English cafe. I went for a full English, whilst my son went for the large English breakfast. The waiter was polite and efficient, taking our order and serving our drinks quickly. The tea comes in a pot and you’re given a dainty cup and a miniature bottle of milk, enough for two cups of tea. I liked that you can see your food being cooked. Nothing repeat nothing beats the smell of bacon cooking. It adds to the homely feeling the cafe gives. Our breakfasts arrived quickly. Bacon, sausage, egg, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast served on a white rectangular plate. My son’s breakfast was the same, just more bacon. sausage and an extra egg. We didn’t go for any extras such as hash browns, as the food provided was more than enough. The food was great and we both left empty, clean plates and our bellies full. If you’re in Chester on of the days The Cafe At The Walls is open, pop in and enjoy a traditional cafe. It’s wonderful.

Highly recommend this cafe, there was a wide range of excellent gluten free options and the food was delicious and really well priced. The manager was friendly and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Very attentive and sweet. They even refilled our tea pot for an extra cup of tea. Thank you for the lovely lunch.

Myself ,my 4year old daughter and my mother in law visited today for lunch. We cannot fault ANYTHING! My daughter knocked over her glass of milk and nothing was too much trouble , she got given another glass with no problem.. she had a small version of fish and chips and she ate most of it which for her is unheard of. Myself and mother in law had hot baguettes which were beautiful. We were served primarily by liv who was still training but did an amazing job! We will DEFINITELY be back again xxx

Stopped here today for lunch. What a great menu, lots of choice - sandwiches, Aĺl Day breakfasts, specials board, light bites and good cake selection. We are not big eaters and so chose a sandwich and a fried egg barm. Both were freshly made and delicious. Good value for money and a warm and pleasant experience from the person serving us. Definitely recommend and we'll call in next time were in the area.

Took my new partner to chester found this cafe as we had not ate when we left home The girl taking our order was obviously not trained in serving customers . (NOT HERE FAULT) HOWEVER .first issue she spilt a full bottle of milk over the table and my partner due to her brand new extra long nails anf not able to hold bottle properly. The sausages were not fresh and my partner knew as she has had a restaraunt so not good . We ordered extra toast as menu said extra items 95 p . Ordered 2 so 190.in my head . I took 2 pounds and the girl said its 2 .10 i explained the menu did say it was 95 per extra item only for her to repeat its 2 .15 before i had chance to speak she rudley turned her back andtold a lady who was in kitchen he is ARGUING saying its 1.90 not 2.10 to with this lady who didnt iintroduce herself .she said little words but was not pleasent and agreed reluctantly .wont be going back to this place simply because the attitude of the staff . I can forgive mistakes but not bad attitude and service .23 pounds for 2 breakfasts not fresh and attitude no thankyou

Pleasant cafe. Unfortunately my daughter and her friend had a cookie which was tiny and it was tasteless, waste of money. There were too many dogs in a small space and my millionaire shortcake was delicious! Hot chocolates were great,and so was the view. Everything...

The only good thing about this was the view. The toast was black and rock hard. We couldn't even eat the crumpets they were stale, hard and burnt. Wouldn't recommend.

What a find! Fast, friendly service on 2 visits and great home made marmalade and jam. We asked if they could do us some sandwiches to take away - no problem; freshly made with home cooked ingredients, and home made coleslaw and a side salad...

Friendly helpful staff. Food was lovely; well presented, good portions and hot. Ketchup in a proper bottle - better than sachets for old people like me.

Called into The Café at the Walls for lunch, lovely little place, the freshly made sandwiches were delicious as was the side salad and homemade coleslaw, Must call in again to sample the cakes which looked tempting.

I am sad to say I to was a witness to this appalling bullying. The young waitress serving us was very pleasant and extremely good at her job and the way she was being treated and bullied was absolutely appalling and should be reported. Something has to be done about this business like this who think it’s ok and get away with what they were doing. My advice is avoid this awful place and go somewhere nice. Hopefully they beautiful young lady will do the same and get something she deserves.

We popped in today to what we thought looked like a nice local cafe. We were initially welcomed in with our young son, but it became fairly uncomfortable early on. When a gentleman made the point of telling the waitress she was going a good job, I initially thought it was strange but it didn't take long to realise why he had said it. She was being bullied at work. In such a small environment, everything is seen and heard and the girl, who was actually very pleasant and good at her job, was taking a hammering from her colleague, who we presumed was the manager or owner but not sure. She embarrassed her by telling her off, correcting her and when she made an honest mistake with our bill, she publicly announced her mistake and rudely told her to apologise (she already had multiple times and I had told her she had no reason to apologise). I wanted to the give the poor girl a hug she had been so dressed down. Wish I owned a company, I'd give her a job to get her out of there. Very sad for a local business, we won't return.

Came in for breakfast and ordered scrambled egg on toast. The scrambled egg was like mush and has zero flavour. The waitress was lovely I think she may have been new there, however the manager/owner was being very rude to her which was horrible to see. Would not come here again if that’s the food you get and how the staff are treated.

Dropped in for a sandwich - mozzarella, tomato and pesto. It wasn't unpleasant but the grated cheese was plastic. Pretty uninspiring. Wish I'd gone to M&S food hall.

Very friendly service. The food is straight forward, honest and good quality. It was like stepping back in time to the period when things were simpler and people were friendlier. Very good value for money. You must check out the ice cream.

A pleasant boutique cafe where we were served an assortment of home cooked food. Full breakfast, fish and chips and jacket potato. Most enjoyable and my grandson wants to come again. Friendly and efficient service.

Cometí un error viniendo aquí. El servicio amable y al principio parecía un buen café, sin embargo, pronto nos decepcionaría. El lugar está cansado y necesita pintura y reforma. La comida fue muy decepcionante y en particular las hamburguesas que pedí para mis 2 hijos. La calidad de la carne era muy mala y la sopa de mi esposa no tenía sabor. Desde la distancia, la cocina no nos dio mucha confianza en la limpieza y no pudimos ver la calificación de higiene mostrada. Estoy realmente sorprendido de algunas de las buenas críticas de este establecimiento.

Parked at the rodeo car park Chester to walk the city walls with my dog and friend, some of the wall was blocked of so on finding another route stumbled across this DOG FRIENDLY cafe (that's what drew me to it in the first place) a bowl outside with fresh water and dog friendly signs.We continued our walk and came back to this lovely cafe.I have to say the full English breakfast for my self and the veggie option for my friend was lush, all freshly cooked and the nicest I have had for a while.Lovely friendly lady who threw me when asked for 1 tea, 1 coffee and was asked hot or cold milk for my coffee, hmmm never been asked that before just (with milk) so I went for the hot milk and what a bloody good choice it was.Lady brought our drinks over and even some treats for lola.Definitely visit here again.

Tengo que decir que estaba decepcionado con la calidad de la comida hoy. Mi esposo tenía la tarta de Shepard, que era 3/4 de puré sin grumos, solo una pequeña cantidad de carne y jugos. Servido con verduras, incluidas las coles de Bruselas. La porción era muy pequeña para un plato principal. El mío estaba bien, comí pollo, arándano y pan brie. It was absolutely smashing. Popped in for lunch and had an all day breakfast meal. It was absolutely amazing. If you have time to visit you should!

We checked out of our hotel & were ready for coffee & breakfast before walking the wall. For our little group, it was ideal! Great coffee, perfectly cooked delicious breakfast, & a most friendly & informative lady, Joe, to serve us. Good menu selection, well priced. It got our day off to a wonderful start!

Fuimos a tomar un café aquí, en parte para escapar de una lluvia cuando estábamos dando un paseo por las murallas. Tiene un menú sorprendentemente extenso donde puedes tener comidas a gran escala. En un día soleado nos hubiéramos sentado afuera en la mesita debajo de los Muros. Estaba tranquilo con solo otro cliente durante el tiempo que estuvimos allí. El café está pintado de verde con sillas verdes y tiene una forma atractiva con una pared curva con ventanas debajo de las murallas de la ciudad. Ofrecía "Eat in or Takeaway" pero no tenía clientes "Takeaway" mientras estuvimos allí. Dio la bienvenida a los perros y tenía un estante de libros para que los clientes lo leyeran. Las señoras que servían eran agradables y disfrutamos nuestras tazas de café.

Not much to say about this place really.... typical cafe, good location but mediocre food and service. We specifically asked if the brown sauce was catering sauce or HP; they quickly advised it was HP, when in fact it was catering sauce refilled in a HP bottle!! Big give away, apart from the appalling taste, is wiping the best before date off the bottle!! Please do not lie to customers, particularly in a day and age of allergens!!

Tucked away at the end of a Georgian terrace this café is welcoming, cosy with great food. We shared the scrummy cooked breakfast and got 4 cups of tea out the pot ( the offer of a top up is a nice touch too ). Had to cancel the crumpet order as the breakfast proved more than sufficient ! Friendly staff and café clean and bright. A perfect little detour on the wall walk.

Enjoyed a lovely late.... very late ‘breakfast’ here..... around 2.30pm.... was perfect. My other half likes his ‘full English’ at any time of the day and we both tucked in heartily with coffee in two very stylish tall mugs ... i want them .

Visited this cafe after reading reviews but would not rate it well ourselves. We chose the vegetable curry special, one mild and one medium. Even the medium was very bland. Pittas were over-microwaved and therefore rock hard when cooled. Lattes served in stupid shaped skinny mugs. Toilet area very dingy and untidy, back of door was dirty as was the tiny hand towel, the only hand drying facility. Not impressed! Our first and last visit.

In Chester last night and went for breakfast this morning, arrived at 10.20 to find closed and no sign of life, very disappointed. Sign on door says open at 10am closed Wednesday so expected to be open on Thursday

As we were staying opposite this cafe, we thought it was perfect for us to enjoy a breakfast each morning and both the service and breakfast were excellent. A great way to start off the day. I would certainly recommend this lovely cafe and we will be returning again definitely.

Just by the river Dee, bridge and the Walls of Chester, this very unassuming café is a great find for a sandwich, meal, ice cream or breakfast. Quality is very good, the ice cream was creamy and tasted real, not artificial. Food is cooked to order and served with garnish. Prices are very good and while small inside has a steady flow of customers. Definitely one to keep going to. Dogs are welcome

We stopped by here for breakfast before we explored the city, we was welcomed by a very lovely lady at the counter, who hilariously hates baked beans as much as I do (they are the devils food...!).

Over for a family get together and went out for a lunch to the cafe food was brilliant coffee was excellent and the staff were lovely we will certainly be back when over again

I have been here several times with friends and I have always had a lovely vegetarian meal. The staff are always very helpful even if the restaurant is full.

This is one of my girls' favourite places to go for ice cream. I love to have some coffee and cake while I am there too. They have a wonderful range of gluten free cakes and there's always something a little different to sample which you may not be expecting.

Atmospheric location at the city walls, tiny place but lovely. Many gf options, homemade plum jam was delicious on my gf tea cake and his scone. Not expensive Def recommend

Visited here with little doggie Ollie. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and made such a fuss with Ollie. They provided treats and water for him. They also sell doggie ice cream and frozen yoghurt. I had a delicious hot chocolate. I didn’t have anything to eat but the menu did look inviting. Will definitely be back to sample something from the menu.

We found this little gem whilst walking our dogs and being restrained for time due to parking. We were not disappointed good service, lovely coffee and tea cake and treats for the dogs. Couldn’t have been more obliging will definitely return. 😊🐾🐾

When my 13 year old son and I stopped off here for refuelling as we walked the walls we weren't disappointed. The cafe is spotless with tasty food and good service. We had a milkshake each and I had soup and a sandwich and my son had a toastie. Cost was very reasonable. Would definitely return and recommend.

Mis amigos y yo hemos estado visitando este café durante los últimos 3 o 4 meses y tengo que decirlo absolutamente. . . There is nothing pretentious about this cafe which is a pleasant change from much of Chester! They produce good solid food in a very small space. I had a fantastic vegetarian suet pudding at the weekend. Have not had such an imaginative dish is years. Kids are always very happy in there as the staff talk to them and make them laugh. Always a pleasure to be there and it’s local.

We had a lovely breakfast on a very rainy morning in Chester this morning.

Waited half an hour for two toasties. (There are only four tables; one table were being served; one had finished, one was empty). Turned out to be dry bread, toasted on one side, with a filling that was consequently luke warm at best. Tablespoon of salad; smaller amount of coleslaw. Nice pot of tea, but the place looks and feels a bit grubby.

My boyfriend and I were in Chester and decided to have a meal from Cafe at the Walls. Initionally, the food and service were great, however when it came to pay the bill the attitude of the staff degraded. Both members of staff present at the time did not believe that our money was real... Yet the money had been collected from a cash point and we have since clarified with suitably qualified professionals that the note is indeed legal tender. This was not our greatest concern however as it was in fact the accusatory tone in which they claimed the note was not real, it was this that has caused me to leave this review. It is important to note that the staff were pleasant and friendly up until this point but I believe their disrespectful and derogatory inclination was not suitable for the situation. The way they handled the whole affair was frankly embarrassing for us as they were essentially labelling us as scammers in front of a near full café. If it had not been for these out of order actions conducted by the staff it would have been a fine experience.

Looked nice and we were wanting an ice cream so decided to try it. Upgraded to a waffle cone. The girl put the tiniest scoup of ice cream in which obviously sank to the bottom of the cone then charged us £5.50! Wont be going back here.

Had a delicious ploughmans lunch in this cost cafe by the walls.Delish homemade pork pie,Homecooked ham,2 different cheeses,and lovely side salad.Very friendly staff,and spotless clean.We were staying just across the road,in an apartment,said other people had had problems getting into the property,so if we have any problems to call back,which was more than helpful.Went back later for an homemade ice cream,Rhubarb and custard,it was delicious.other half had vanilla and rum and raisin,which also got the thumbs up.Will definately return when back in Chester.

Decent place top call in half way round the wall, a little tight on space but decent priced food....

We only had coffee and tea but if we had known would have eaten there instead of bringing a picnic. The young lady on the counter was really friendly and efficient and there was a good choice of meals and snacks.

We popped in for launch and found a lovely polite friendly welcome, perused the menu, which has a good selection for all tastes and appetites, and our order was taken quickly.. For a small cafe we found a huge verity of drinks, and help with very helpful staff. The food was freshly cooked, plentiful and tasty, and with popper home made chips.. A little gem of a place, and we will be popping in again when we are in the area. Could be even better with a decor refresh..

So lovely to find a dog friendly cafe offering excellent food (extended selection of gluten free foods), lovely decent pot of tea, and wonderful customer service. Our dogs especially enjoyed the complimentary biccies and great to buy Frozzies frozen doggy yoghurt. Thank you from Meg and Davina (black and chocolate labs that visited you yesterday ).

We just had coffees which were nice. Small inside but I have to say not the cleanest place I have ever been in. The walls could do with cleaning and or painting

We stopped off at this small and friendly little cafe for a spot of breakfast. Great service and very tasty veggie sausages!

This is the second time we have visited this cafe. We came to Chester on Friday and had scrambled eggs for lunch. Mine was on gluten free bread and it was lovely. We came to the cafe again on Saturday and this time I tried the gluten free fish pie which was delicious! Back again on Sunday to try the gluten free shepherd's pie which was also delicious! Also tried one of their gluten free tea cakes which was moreish! Will be back to try more!

Cold April day, walked the wall at Chester, down on the river edge and a cup of warm tea was requested. Just round the corner we found an inviting sign and the café though full of students was welcoming to another pair of cold travellers.

Great little place good food, good customer service and makes dogs very welcome recommend this cafe highly .

Excellent service every time I have been, would 100% recommend to anyone in the area! My girlfriend and I have been multiple times and the service and the food has been great every time!

Its been a while since I’ve been able to get back to this little gem of a cafe in Chester.
