Cafe Ascari in Herefordshire, County of

I judge a fry up on the quality of the sausage on the plate and the breakfasting experience on the coffee. I was not overwhelmed. Instead I was somewhere between underwhelmed and whelmed.

I was very shocked when I witnessed a member of staff SHOUTING at a customer! (Blond haired lady from the kitchen) It’s loud in the cafe and you can not hear the numbers being shouted out. Very disrespectful to the customer.

Full breakfast was good quality but small. I asked for an oat milk latte but the guy at the counter was adamant that I said soya. He offered to change it but I would have to pay. I was surprised by his passive aggressive manner.

Always the best scran! Coffee from the head barista always spot on. Food always cooked perfect and rapid service. Big menu with lots of options catering for a wide variety of dietary requirements.

Wednesday 30th June we had a team breakfast and the server was extremely polite, friendly and professional. Food is good vfm and comes out quickly. Will definitely be our venue of choice moving forward.

Great all day breakfast here, reasonably priced and lovely service. Greeted with a smile and food came quickly and was hot.

I visited the cafe for lunch today with a colleague. The staff were lovely, and the food was delicious. I would defiantly go back and recommend to anyone. The cafe had a lovely atmosphere and was spotless. Can't wait to come back.

I had lunch at Ascaris yesterday and it was so good that I went back again today ! The service was quick and very friendly and the food was perfect - Scampi and Chips. The restaurant is immaculately clean and has an excellent atmosphere which looks and feels like an independent cafe should. The coffee is the best in town and the cakes ( especially the scones) are simply amazing - the people running this cafe are clearly hardworking professionals which, in these days of huge, soulless corporates popping up everywhere is an absolute treat. Well done Ascaris !

I’ve just seen below the review of the milk allergy incident of a customer on the 10th November. I would like to clarify on this. Me and my family were actually stood behind this customer and we were shocked at the appalling attitude she gave to the staff. The staff, aswell as a customer who was a nurse tried to explain to her that they cannot risk serving her because a lot of produce contains milk in the kitchen and it will simply result in a major all day deep clean. This customer was still kicking off and was very aggressive to the staff, she didn’t even have an eppy pen, the staff were so apologetic and tried to help her despite been sworn and yelled at. My mother in law who was also there is an ambulance technician and even she said the staff did right and followed their health and safety policies! Disgusting behaviour from the customer who out the review ‘No allergy training and pure rude staff’ It’s a legal requirement to have allergy training or there would be no cafe, I worked in the food industry for 8 years and I know the procedures. Swearing and being aggressive is not acceptable, it doesn’t matter if you are a customer. The cctv footage will even show who showing aggressive and rude behaviour and it wasn’t the staff. As for the cafe itself, brilliant service and lovely food!

We went for lunch after wandering around Hereford for the morning. My family have lived in the area for 3 generations and I remember coming to this cafe when I was little with my Gran. It was busy, offered a good cafe menu and did not disappoint at all. 5 of us ate a mix of breakfast, sandwiches and superb steak with chips, with drinks. Efficient service, good friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices. Worth the visit if you are in Hereford.

Been a customer for over fifty years. It’s place in Herefords history is assured. Great meeting place for all. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Its relaxing atmosphere is a joy. I had a traditional full English,with a wonderful mug of tea,what better way to start the day with great friends as an added bonus. Try it you won’t be disappointed.

This place is not 'in the main area of Hereford ' it's a minute or so away from the main high street area, but totally worth it! The food is great and was impressed with the service too! The young lads who served us were very helpful, don't want to be stereotypical but many youngsters who work in the retail service sector don't seem to have the interest in the job. But these two certainly had it! Well done guys. Well reccomend it!

We went there today for lunch. Average meal cost £8 so not greasy spoon prices. Cheap chips, fish that the batter was so hard and dried up it kept shooting of the plate. Spanish omelette cooked in veg oil with no side salad £7. A great place for coffee and cake but won't be going back there for a main meal.

There is plenty of room in this nice little cafe. The staff are very friendly and the service is quick and efficient. Spotlessly clean with a good range of snacks that are well cooked and presented. Good gluten free and some vegetarian and vegan options as well Prices are reasonable certainly worth a visit.

We visit Hereford to shop 3 or 4 times a year. We always make for Cafe Ascari for coffee,then back for lunch! It has a nice 'constantly busy' buzz, the staff are friendly, the service is normally fairly prompt, our lunch was well cooked,hot and tasty, and the prices are fair and reasonable. It is situated close to the main shopping centre. The original Mr.Ascari was a racing driver,and interesting historic black and white photos of him decorate the walls.

The lunches at Ascari's are fantastic, we usually go here for lunch on a Sunday during the winter or on wet summer days. You have a choice of which meat you want and the portions are just right. Would recommend anyone to go and have a meal here.

Best coffee and scones anywhere. they have been making them with the same recipe for over 30 years. Great outside catering also

Had a lovely Breakfast at Ascaris today . The Bacon was lovely and had hashbrowns and lovley eggs and toast and 2 sausages.... The service was quick and very polite. A Happy Atmosphere and will definitly recommend. It set us up for the day...

My daughter and I have been regular visitors to Ascaris for years. We’ve only had one or two little hiccups over the years, until Friday 23rd. I ordered 2 rounds of cheese on toast for my daughter and a roast pork lunch for myself. The 2 rounds of cheese on toast turned out to only be one lot of cheese on toast and one lot of plain toast- when I queried it the young lad said “oh that’s how it comes” (so I lost out on one lot of cheese on toast and landed up with plain), to make matters worse when my lunch arrived the only edible things were the pork, the new potatoes and the carrots. (The cauliflower tasted almost scorched, the gravy tasted a bit burnt and the roast potatoes were badly burned and then had gone cold and soggy). I was saddened by this as I’ve always loved ascaris. I only hope things improve.

Popped in here for a bit of lunch on Sunday and it was full of people. Took something off the specials board which was good and not expensive.

Pop in every Friday for my breakfast. A one-a-week treat of a full english. Always quickly delivered and the best cup of tea in town. Reasonably priced on the whole.

I took my two boys for my eldest's birthday. They had a bacon sandwich and sausage sandwich and a round of toast each. As neither really ate their sandwiches, I did of course, and both were tasty, and satisfactory. For a Sunday morning it was reasonably quiet and a pleasant experience.

Enjoyed our visit to ascaris today, the staff are all really friendly especially one young boy who went out of his way for us.

Went with my daughter for breakfast and maybe I'm outta touch with the real world but was horrified at the price. One Grilled tomato a £1, how can that be justified? Can't remember the other prices and didn't get a receipt, but £18 for 2 breakfasts and 2 hot drinks seems steep to me. That said Service was great, cheerful and helpful. Restaurant was clean and welcoming.

This bad experience started off with very poor service. The guy serving me at the till gave me no eye contact and didn't seem to care. He then proceeded to get my order wrong, twice! When my glass of water arrived the glass was dirty. It doesn't take much effort to clean a glass! On to the food. I ordered a mushroom omelette and salad. When the omelette arrived I was pleasantly surprised as the presentation wasn't too bad. But after trying it, it was extremely bland and clear that not much effort had been put in to make it taste nice. I am a vegetarian and I found a small piece of ham on my plate, which is not acceptable. I went into Ascari for a quick lunch to somewhere I'd never been before, but I won't be back.

On travelling all over europe you never seem to get a bad cup of coffee. In the UK this is more problematic. On stopping at Ascari for coffee this morning we were very disappointed. It was so weak and without any taste. My impression was that cheap coffee was being used and little used to make the cup.

the food is good but not a large selection on cooked food but very nice cakes and cream cakes and their own scones and cream a little way from the town centre as its down a side street but a good place to visit.

Remember going in this cafe when I was a kid over 40 years ago and enjoying the odd treat now and again. Visited more recently with my son over Christmas and I still enjoy the simplicity of the place. Good honest straight forward snacks including things on toast, sandwiches, ommlettes, pies and pizzas etc. at modest prices. With 40 years plus and still going strong the formula must be right!

I visited Ascari with my auntie while on a shopping trip. We ordered two omelettes, thinking it would be a quick lunch. After 50 minutes we still had no food, and when asked how much longer we'd have to wait, we were met with 'we're busy. It won't be long'. After an hour, they arrived. After a few bites of mine, I found chunks of egg shell in the omelette. Thinking it was a one off, I had another bite, finding further chunks of egg shell. Obviously I didn't eat the rest of it as it was really quite unpleasant. When the waiter asked why I hadn't finished I told him about the problem. I was then greeted with 'well you can only have half the money back because you've eaten some of it'. I thought that was the idea of lunch - to eat it. Until you find egg shell in it, then obviously I don't want to eat anymore!! The rude waiter did not want to hear it and refused to let me speak to a manager. First visit and definitely the last. The company also did not reply to my email about it!

This was our first visit to this restaurant while on a shopping trip to Hereford. I was very impressed with the food and the service was very good. The portions were also very generous and I didn't have room for a sweet. I will definitely be going there again.

Called in to Cafe Ascari for lunch, my first visit and I was very impressed, I only had a light lunch which was lovely, the thick cut chips are so yummy. Very busy place with good service and a wide variety of meals.

We decided to stop for lunch during a shopping trip to Hereford, as the café looked so clean, and inviting from outside. We realized our mistake as soon as we entered the café and were ignored by the very young staff as we hovered in the doorway waiting to see if we needed to wait to be seated. After being tutted at by the third waitress we found our own table and sat down. We then realized that we had to order at the counter and had to go in search of menu's in order that we could do so. We decided to order a tuna panini and a prawn mayo jacket potato. We told that they had sold out of panini's and changed to a toastie. We then watched the lackluster staff wandering past with various plates of food, calling out the relevant number. Some plates went past two or three times. When our food came to say we were disappointed was an understatement! The prawns on the jacket potato were watery and tasteless and the toastie was dry and very poor quality for what we had paid. The best bit was the salad with the jacket.We had headed in there for a treat and left feeling we would have had a better meal at one of the local fast food joints!

The service in this place was a little odd, half table service and half self-service and that's abit confusing. The breakfast items are priced individually for a full english - which is great in terms of avoiding unwanted items and choosing your own but I did think it worked out kinda pricey. Especially considering they had a specials board stating I could have had a Hereford Beef roast dinner for £7.00 and 2 breakfasts cost about £16 (therefore slightly dearer?). Either way, breakfast was definitely tasty and I was impressed that they actually served us a perfect egg-yolk (dippy but cooked through) and black pudding (crispy edges, soft inside). Top marks for the chef! ;)

We love Ascaris the staff are lovely, the food is great the puddings and cakes are amazing. They keep soya milk which is great as I'm lactose intolerant and as I'm on crutches they happily take the things to the table for me.

Not been to the Cafe Ascari before, we just came across it, and popped in for a light lunch. It came back super fast so no complaints there. With a good choice on the menu. The staff were very helpful, cafe was clean. And so was the toilets, they look inspected on a regular basis, by the look of there. £9 odd for one Tea,one cofffee , two sandwiches and a bowl of chips. So it's not over top on prices. The cafe is set over three rooms on the ground floor and was pretty much full,this is alway a good sign. So we will call in again, when we are in Hereford. Mike

Ascari's is 100% my favorite cafe in Hereford. It's open good hours so it can be 5pm on a Saturday and you can get anything off the menu (Usually a full cooked breakfast for me) and it is so tasty you can tell it's fresh, quality food and 99% of the time, cooked to perfection. The staff are pretty young so I presume they are school kids working part time which is no problem, but on slight occassions the staff may not know what they are doing or your toast may be slightly over done. For me, it's a bit expensive so I couldn't go daily, but it is so worth it, from the portions to the taste.

I have visited Ascaris many times over many years. It's always very dependable and welcoming. The standards are always good backed up by good service and a excellent menu. I have never been disappointed and will continue to visit whenever in Hereford.

We stayed in a large hotel a few yards away from the cafe and choose to have our breakfast here , the cafe is clean and bright the staff very freindly and helpfull the prices are very reasonable and the food was excellant no fat no grease just perfect and the pot of green tea stays hot and the last cup tastes as good as the first , as a visitor to Hereford this cafe was a jewel and will be heading for it whenever we are here again.
