Cafe 1901 in Newcastle upon Tyne

Awesome location. Friendly staff. Customer service. focused. Delicious vegan flapjack. Outside tables in the sunshine.

We came here for breakfast. It was a lovely place and seemed to have a good variety of drinks and food. The avocado smash was amazing and really good for the price. We also had coffees 👍🏻

Just visited for the first time, actually hadn’t intended to until a friendly staff member named ‘Debbie’spoke to me and my son outside. We both ate and food was fab. So many things on the menu I wanted to try so I’ll definitely be back. Only issue I had was the protein smoothie was warm which was a shame. But other than that great experience. Special thank you to Debbie for being lovely with my son - great staff definitely makes all the difference.

Your support with the seating and tables allowed people to make new friendships. You were an angel sent to promote healing after the social isolation many suffered through Covid. Not a great experience. The menu is limited. My daughter is vegan and couldn't have the sandwich she wanted. She was told they had ran out of tofu the day before. So she found something else to order. They told her to order it a certain way as it would work out cheaper. Unfortunately no one told the kitchen and the wrong food came to the table. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and beans. When the waitress passed me my plate my hands got covered in the sauce from the beans that had been spilled onto the side of the plate. The potato was on the hard side and the beans had been watered down. I kept my jacket on as I found the cafe on the cold side. I won't be visiting the cafe again.

After a very disappointing first visit, we decided to give it a second chance, may just have been a bad day. But no, definitely give this place a wide berth. Overpriced poor quality food.

First visit here. It was a warm day so we sat outside. The menu was quite limited unless you wanted cake. I'm giving it one star for the pleasant waitress who brought our food. I had a cheese scone and herbal tea, I say cheese scone but the only detectable cheese was on the top. My partner had a breakfast (bacon) brioche and coffee. If that had been my order it would have gone back, but he doesn't like to make a fuss. My order and my partners coffee came ahead of his food, I would have expected everything to come at once. The Breakfadt Brioche left s lot to be desired, the 'American' cheese was a slice of tasteless bright orange plastic, the bacon still had its rind on, and there was more fat than meat on the miserly piece of bacon. Not the standard boasted on their website, a waste of hard earned cash and an experience I need to warn people not to take. I left a message directly for the proprietor on Friday, to give them a chance to address my complaint and am yet to hear from them hence the TripAdvisor review.
