A friend took me for lunch at the cafe yesterday. We were both impressed by how welcoming it felt, how friendly and pleasant the staff were and the quality of the food. So I was surprised to see negative reviews and felt I should express my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to return, especially to sample the scones and cakes.

Only popped in for a coffee and was met by a lady that had little customer service skills about her. Her first response on seeing us was that’s it’s going to be a long wait. I asked if we should take a seat or order at the counter to which she replied it’s going to be a long wait. The impression was clear that she couldn’t cope with the current workload and didn’t want any more customers at this time. The younger member of staff behind her looked embarrassed and I hope she doesn’t learn from this lady. We went down the road to the cafe at Ness Gardens where the staff were wonderfully helpful and polite.

Arrived just before 1pm and ordered within 5 minutes. After 25 minutes told that one item ordered had now run out so had to choose something else. Chose the lasagne and waited another 20 minutes for our food. Paninis were ok but the lasagne was over microwaved - hard and chewy - very unappetising - so much that I had to leave half of it.

We cycled to cafe and have been back a number of times due to excellent quality food, reasonable prices and lovely staff. One of our favourite cycling destinations.

Went for lunch with a friend. Lovely and cosy inside despite it being a chilly day. Friendly and fast service. Coffee was hot and tasty. Great sized portions and very tasty too. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on brown toast which was yummy, my husband had creamy mushrooms with Stilton on brown toast and our friend had bacon, Brie and cranberry panini which she said was lovely. We followed our main course by a portion of carrot cake and a portion of chocolate cake which were very good. Will return. Not cheap but good sized portions so well worth it.

Big Sis took me here for first time mid week late on in the morning. All very clean with seating inside and out. We shared a prawn sandwich and had a Portuguese, pot of tea custard tart - very good. Great back drop of old manor grounds. Car parking on site.

Have visited here for coffee previously but decided to try a breakfast for a treat. Had the full English selection which was huge and included plenty of toast. It was nicely cooked and presented and we really enjoyed it. Service was friendly and quick ( contrast to a previous review). It's also dog friendly so we are likely to return with dog in the future!

No one ahead of us when we ordered but we still waited almost half an hour to get our meals. The food was fine but an apology for the long wait would have been appreciated. One of the people serving was perky and pleasant but the other one was surly and grumpy. 2nd time we've been. The previous visit was good so hopefully this poor experience won't be repeated.

Visited for lunch at 2.10, we were told the chef had finished and there was no food to order. We had a coffee and cake. The staff started cleaning around us, spraying tables, brushing the floor etc, it wasn’t a pleasant experience, especially as the website stated that they were open until 3.30 and this was 2.45! We left and went elsewhere for a coffee where we were made very welcome. Will not return to Burtons.

We arrived at 3.05pm to find the door locked yet people inside just leaving. Knocked on door, lady said they were closed. I pointed out that the web site says open until 3.30pm, hoping she would at least sell us something to take away. However all she said was that the web site is out of date and they will be changing it. (although they haven't) Not the right attitude for running a business. Very sad.

This cafe is perfect…….the food is excellent and great value for money and such a pleasure to pop in after a walk to complete the day. The home made desserts are truly out of this world. Highly recommend x

I love Visiting this little hidden gem of a cafe, always enjoy the level of food and service. Very friendly staff, excellent location, very clean and welcoming. The food has always been delicious, fresh, tasty and presented nice. Unfortunately my last few visits I have been disappointed, not by the place or staff but by the food. Sandwiches where always filled with ingredients, a good helping of crisps and a good size salad and coleslaw. Not anymore, thin sandwiches on cheap thin bread, hardly any filling, 5 crisps if you are lucky, a tsp of coleslaw and a minuscule salad. What’s happened!!! Standards have slipped, regulars are now heard discussing the drop in standards. Please go back to how it used to be and what level customers expect.

Arrived for a light lunch at 12.10. The service was appallingly slow - we finally received our food at 13.15. It's not as if the dishes are complicated - filled paninis and baked potatoes. With three staff you'd think they'd have shared the workload. Instead, we had one taking orders and receiving payments, one clearing tables and serving drinks and one in the kitchen dealing with orders one at a time in order, regardless of what could have been started in the oven. They could do with a bit of method study to move things along a bit more efficiently. We weren't in a rush today and it was just as well. 90 minutes to order and eat a sandwich was ridiculous. Get Gordon Ramsey in there or there will be lack of repeat business. Also I agree with the previous comment about asking for a tip. Tips are for service above and beyond, not below what you'd reasonably expect.

I absolutely love this cafe, I don't visit often enough. I have been coming since it opened up again and I have never found the staff anything but friendly and efficient, I quite often see some of them working in Saltys parkgate owned by the same company. The food is 10/10 and the Value for money is fantastic. They do gluten free options which is handy for my niece and during the main lockdowns we always found a table outside rain or shine. The sandiches are great to take out and esp if you are on your way to Ness gardens and need a packed lunch. Can't wait to visit again. If you get a chance, take a walk around the Manor gardens, looked after by volunteers, often there are plants to buy with an honestly box and lovely views over to North Wales if you visit the secret garden through the wall arch.

We really like the Burton Manor tea garden. We have been a few times and lovely setting. Last time the service was dreadful. Staff didn't engage at all and we waited ages to be served, even though it was quiet when we arrived and no customers in the inner cafe. The table had bird muck on it which was not nice. The main complaint was that when I came to pay I was told the card machine now had the tips on and the young lady held it whilst I paid, pointing out the different tips or no tips. I thought the tips were too high lowest of which was 15 per cent. This was particularly embarrassing as we had had such bad service. Also I felt quite embarrassed by this and frankly would put me off going back again. Plenty of other places to visit in the area that do not have this tip procedure. We are not in America.

Went for a light lunch. The paninis had very little filling, especially the cheese and onion one. The waitress replaced it with a better one but really the cheese was pretty bland. My husband’s soup came with awful bread that was thick, white and tasteless!...

Just want to say how lovely it was to go here with friends for a Christmas lunch. It was absolutely beautiful and the serves was brilliant as well. Seeing we had booked ahead they had reserved us a table as well. The greeting we received from Anita was lovely and through the whole time she served us nothing seemed to be any trouble to her. I think you are very lucky to have such a lovely employee as Anita working for you she really is an asset to you. With her beginning so professional we are going to organise to bring a group from our church here for our Christmas meal in 2026. Thank you Anita for making us feel so welcome.

Extremely disappointed tonight which is unusual as we really enjoyed going before refurbishing. Food was not good a all. 3 cheese burgers one plain and 2 with one piece of lettuce and a chunk of onion. The fries on all three plates were overcooked. The onion rings were overcooked although we did eat some. The carvery was nice except for pigs on blankets as they had been left under heat lamp far to long inedible. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty.but again fries overcooked. The young lady gave me a box to bring the full burger home to put in the bin. This is unusual so not sure if they changed the chief or they were having a bad day. Tripped over the side of the chair and hurt my leg and informed the young lady it was a safety issue she said she would inform the manager but didn’t take steps to remove the hazard. ( not sure yellow and black hazard tape is adequate if it’s covered by the arm of the chair that’s broke ?) this time wasn’t value for money and we left feeling dissatisfied. Felt like they just couldn’t be bothered . Sad really as we have loved eating here 😔
