I was walking nearby and I wanted to buy 2 soft drinks. Staff was very unfriendly. No "hello/good morning", not said how much I need to pay (just smashed number to the pay machine) and throw the machine in my direction. No "thank you". Not a single interaction with a customer. The whole situation took literally 45-60 seconds but it was enough for me to be remembered as one of the most unpleasant interactions with staff in Bristol.

What an earth is this? Charge you an arm and a leg and this is what you get? Small handful of overcooked chips…..Been going here since I was little with several different owners over the years but the latest lot really are the worst, half a burger bun box with no lid because they want to cut corners. Never known anything like it. Definitely won’t be back…till the next lot of owners anyway as I’m sure they won’t last if they carry on like this.

We were visiting SS Great Britain. We went into their cafe but the prices were extortionate so we decided to walk 5 minutes along the river to Brunels Buttery. Great selection, seating on the river, very friendly staff. Had a lovely BLT and a sausage and egg roll. Very reasonably priced! Popular with locals.

This is a café right on the quayside here on the Bristol Harbourside. We have walked past this (seemingly popular) ‘wayside’ café, with a covered seated area, so-many times during our many walks around this lovely area. Today it was overcast and there was a cold breeze. So, we popped-in for much-welcomed warming coffee, and we ordered two “Americano coffees with hot milk”. We were left disappointed and wondered if the following tip would help the person who served us. An Americano is a single or double shot of Expresso with additional boiling-hot water in a ratio of 2:1; to which you can add milk (or not) to taste. An ‘Americano with hot milk’ is the former base coffee with added frothy hot milk (produced by injecting pressurized steam to heat to boiling point). What an Americano it is not is an Expresso with pan-heated boiled milk added: that’s a ‘Latte’ (actually it’s a hot ‘Caffe latte’). Hot milky coffee develops a disgusting skin as it cools, and that spoils any enjoyment. Given the wealth of cafés in this area, we are most unlikely to revisit.

Was a bit disappointed today, the chips were dry and over cooked even the kids left them. For about £10 you get a handful of chips in half a bugger bun container with a sausage x2. I have been enjoying the buttery for many years but a few times recently it's just not like it use to be. Just an honest opinion as this is how places make improvements. Thank you.

Really lovely spot on Habourside with wooden benches, a big awning over the top and a menu with something for everyone. Chilled out atmosphere, dogs are very welcome - they even have cooked then cooled doggie sausages wrapped in napkins and ready to go. The orders come out of the little kitchen pretty quickly, even on a busy Sunday. Go early as I was disappointed the tuna jacket potato had sold out but the chips were lovely instead. Someone else ordered the bacon and egg sandwich and it was a scrummy, chunky doorstop.

No cycle parking, so they clearly don't want custom from people who have cycled here. Pretty poor customer service, with a hint of arrogance. My meal didn't come with a serviette, I had to coax them into giving me metal cutlery, which they implied I was going to steal, and they give you the hot drink first, then take ages to prepare your food order, by which time your drink has cooled down, presumably in the hope that you'll order another hot drink. And they charge £1.90 for a cold canned drink, which is barefaced greed in my book.

If I could leave 0 stars I would, Brunel's buttery is an utter waste of time, it doesn't help that for years living in Bristol I've heard how great the bacon sandwiches are here, that is just not true. The bacon was thick and not well cooked and enjoyable, the bread was huge thick slices and very dry with hard dry crusts, the wait was long, and the condiments come in a huge messy tomato covered bottle which is too big to aim your ketchup into sandwich as the bottle is roughly the mass of a bucket, so very awkward to get your sauce on the sandwich. I would never come here again and feel that I totally wasted my money

Brunels Buttery, right on the dockside, is a Bristol institution. It should be Grade One listed - as one of the best places to eat in Bristol. This doesn't pretend to be a "posh" eatery - it's just absolute top-quality breakfast, morning and lunchtime snacks and coffee. Of course it's famed for their bacon butties in all shapes, sizes and varieties. Freshly cooked to order and eaten in the open (but under cover and shaded in this hot weather). It's fun to sit and eat and watch the harbour activities pass by. And this morning, we had a steam trains taking people on short trips along the harbour as well. I’ve been coming to the Brunel Buttery on and off for 30years. Sadly it’s a shadow of it’s formal self. My wife and I had a Cornish pasty and chips, tea an coffee. The drinks were OK, but the food was a shadow of its former high quality standards The fat used for the chips left an unpleasant taste in the mouth and the microwaved tescos economy pasty pastry was almost inedible. Most of it was left in the un-recyclable plastic containers and cups and thrown away. The previous customer was complaining about his dried out sandwich. Apology given but no offer of a refund says it all really.
