The chip oil desperately needs changing, we smelt of it after having a few chips all day !

Delicious, fresh sandwiches and baps right by the water - I return here every time I come to Bristol. 👍

Recent trip to Bristol and a revisit to the Buttery from 30 years ago when living locally. Same place, addition of an awning and a few more benches but quite remarkably exactly the same! Perfect on a cold winter morning for their excellent bacon butty and a cup of tea served by the local team and transported back 30 years! Thank you!!!

El clima ayudó, ya que era cálido y soleado, pero este es un lugar encantador en un gran entorno junto al agua. Gran relación calidad-precio y la comida era deliciosa. Tocino simple y salchicha bap, pero muy bien cocinado. Había mucha gente comiendo patatas fritas, que se veían preciosas (pero yo estaba siendo bueno ; - ) y se resistían) . Hay un poco de cobertura para los días en que el clima es menos bueno.

Good sandwich and coffee, location has won me over forever, so that's what I compare, not the same food and drink, but things move on.

Busy food stop. Not great quality, but good value for money.

I was walking nearby and I wanted to buy 2 soft drinks. Staff was very unfriendly. No "hello/good morning", not said how much I need to pay (just smashed number to the pay machine) and throw the machine in my direction. No "thank you". Not a single interaction with a customer. The whole situation took literally 45-60 seconds but it was enough for me to be remembered as one of the most unpleasant interactions with staff in Bristol.

Love the Buttery ! A great harbourside location, great food for eat 'in' (outdoors) or take-away (seats all along the waterfront in both directions)

What an earth is this? Charge you an arm and a leg and this is what you get? Small handful of overcooked chips…..Been going here since I was little with several different owners over the years but the latest lot really are the worst, half a burger bun box with no lid because they want to cut corners. Never known anything like it. Definitely won’t be back…till the next lot of owners anyway as I’m sure they won’t last if they carry on like this.

Called here for a bacon bap. It was alright.

Had a homemade Cornish pasty for £4 and i am convinced it was a microwaved Ginsters pasty. You can tell by the chewy pastry

Estábamos visitando SS Gran Bretaña. Fuimos a su cafetería, pero los precios eran extorsivos, así que decidimos caminar 5 minutos a lo largo del río hasta Brunels Buttery. Gran selección, asientos en el río, personal muy amable. Tenía un hermoso BLT y un rollo de salchicha y huevo. Muy razonable precio! Popular entre los lugareños.

Esta es una cafetería justo en el muelle aquí en Bristol Harbourside. Hemos pasado por este café (aparentemente popular) ‘de camino’, con una zona cubierta para sentarse, así que - muchas veces durante nuestros muchos paseos por esta encantadora zona. Hoy estaba nublado y había una brisa fría. Así que, vinimos - para mucho - a dar la bienvenida al calentamiento del café, y pedimos dos “cafés americanos con leche caliente”. Nos quedamos decepcionados y nos preguntamos si el siguiente consejo ayudaría a la persona que nos sirvió. Un Americano es una toma simple o doble de Expresso con ebullición adicional - agua caliente en una relación de 2 : 1 ; al que se le puede añadir leche (o no) al gusto. Un ‘Americano con leche caliente’ es el primer café base con leche caliente espumosa añadida (producida inyectando vapor a presión para calentar hasta el punto de ebullición). Lo que no es un americano es un Expresso con leche hervida calentada en sartén: eso es un ‘Latte’ (en realidad es un ‘Caffe latte’ caliente). El café lechoso caliente desarrolla una piel asquerosa a medida que se enfría, y eso estropea cualquier disfrute. Dada la riqueza de cafés en esta área, es muy poco probable que volvamos a visitar.

No te dejes llevar por algunas críticas. Esto es, lo que es, una parada de comida básica, nada elegante, y mucho mejor para eso. Pero lo que obtienes es honesto, bien cocinado y presentado. He estado viniendo aquí durante mucho tiempo, trayendo a varios amigos para buenos "Butties" viejos. Nunca me decepcionó. Que esta institución de Bristol continúe.

Please don't let the negativity put you off. Visited here Sunday morning with my daughter. Ordered a bacon and sausage sandwich to share (she's only 1.5 years old!) it was a speedy sandwich but was delicious. Would visit again in a heartbeat.

No frills cafe doing takeaway sandwiches/breakfast baps etc. Outdoor searing on harbour side only. Good value. Standard coffee £2.50.

Not much choice for Sushi. Many choices for India curry. Buffet price not include any drink Service really fast and always tidy up the table.

Was a bit disappointed today, the chips were dry and over cooked even the kids left them. For about £10 you get a handful of chips in half a bugger bun container with a sausage x2. I have been enjoying the buttery for many years but a few times recently it's just not like it use to be. Just an honest opinion as this is how places make improvements. Thank you.

Had a lovely walk around the harbourside ended up at the "buttery", what a dissappointment! A lovely large fresh roll with one peice of bacon in it! Cup of tea was like hot water with milk in it! will not be returning!

Great place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat but sadly for what you get it's very expensive there are better places around and more reasonable...

Did not consider vegetarian sausage in a roll good value for money. Do not eat tomato sauce its very poor quality Although have eaten here a number of times i would not come again. Sausages of poor quality only offer fried eggs no healthy options

food was burnt but cold so I guess they burnt it to a crisp and then let go cold before serving it. Worst breakfast I have ever had all four of us were very disappointed.

The sausage and bacon sandwich and cup of tea was great. Unfortunately the staff were very unhappy and spoiled things a little.

Not being funny but the hot chocolate burnt our moths and well there was hardly any chocolate in there won't be oring there again.

The food is the same as ever though service is much slower. It’s let down by the dire “coffee” which is basically hot water with a slight hint of coffee

Staff not in any rush…. Waited over 40 minutes for a breakfast sandwich! Not advised of wait when ordering. Very disappointed compared to previous visits.

Enjoyed our trip around the SS Great Britain although very expensive. Guides very knowledgeable. Lots of stairs but there is a lift for the less able. Also toilets within the ship itself. There's an adjoining cafe but we didn't use it so can't speak for the food.

Really not much to say. A fairly typical small self-service café. Surprisingly good coffee ☕️ I had a bacon 🥓 and sausage sarnie, it was fine, but just ordinary. Exactly as you would expect here. Nice atmosphere, with ancient railway and equally ancient railcars on one side and the port on the other.

We stopped here for some lunch after visiting the SS Great Britain. The water taxi drops you right on their doorstep. The food was delicious and quick service considering how busy it was.

Doesn't open at 8am as advertised on Google. 5 tables worth of people sitting at 8am waiting for it to open. All left and went elsewhere.

Harborside eatery most people know about. Reasonable prices watch out for the pigeons and seagulls trying to pinch your food

Went up to order a sandwich when my table already had some on the way and when there number was called I was at the front of the queue waiting to order and the server then said I have to go to the back of the line because I can't collect and order, I wasn't even collecting someone else from our table was, not happy with this service, very rude

Really lovely spot on Habourside with wooden benches, a big awning over the top and a menu with something for everyone. Chilled out atmosphere, dogs are very welcome - they even have cooked then cooled doggie sausages wrapped in napkins and ready to go. The orders come out of the little kitchen pretty quickly, even on a busy Sunday. Go early as I was disappointed the tuna jacket potato had sold out but the chips were lovely instead. Someone else ordered the bacon and egg sandwich and it was a scrummy, chunky doorstop.

No cycle parking, so they clearly don't want custom from people who have cycled here. Pretty poor customer service, with a hint of arrogance. My meal didn't come with a serviette, I had to coax them into giving me metal cutlery, which they implied I was going to steal, and they give you the hot drink first, then take ages to prepare your food order, by which time your drink has cooled down, presumably in the hope that you'll order another hot drink. And they charge £1.90 for a cold canned drink, which is barefaced greed in my book.

It's a great location but the worst coffee I have ever paid £2.50 for. Either serve decent coffee or don't charge Americano prices for instant coffee stirred into hot water.

Some searches say open on Monday, not always the case. Went back twice during the week for breakfast rolls as this is a favourite place to sit and watch the world go by. Contents of rolls good but sorry to say the quality of the roll sadly lacking, on both occasions tasted cheap.

A pleasant informal location by the waterfront where I enjoyed a refreshing strong cup of tea and a delicious bacon and sausage roll;perfect.

Brilliant cafe with decent freshly cooked food. A real service with a smile place where the staff seem happy that you dropped by. Well cleaned and maintained for this type of place.

Execelent bacon, sausage and egg rolls

We were really looking forward to a hot chocolate at the buttery as we have not visited for a long time, it was grey looking and tasted awful. I asked for another spoonful of chocolate which was kindly delivered as s squirt from a squeezy bottle, this made no difference to the taste and unfortunately the hot chocolate ended up in the bin! We will not be returning which is a shame

Lovely bacon roll and smashing cup of tea (made in a pot!). Only four stars because the kid's cheesy chips weren't very cheesy not given a chance to melt. The chips were great though!

Love this place. Been coming here for years and years. Great breakfast baps. Great lunch; the chips are the best. Go for a walk with or with the children. Nice place to sit, have a coffee and people watch.

Me and a friend are here at the moment and we paid £237 each with breakfast and that was with flights we have only been here 4 nights but we are quite happy here the only thing we can gripe about is the bathroom door shouldn’t be see through and the weather which you can’t change so if you want 5 star service pay an extra lot of money somewhere else

Heard that this had a good reputation, but sadly it must have been from previous owners. Had a baguette that had either overcooked bacon or it had been kept warm too long. It was brittle and tasteless. Dry bread with (ironically for a "buttery") no butter on. I should have read the fact that on a busy dockside there was no queue. Will avoid in the future.

Today, myself and partner went to Brunel’s buttery, as I has been there years before and had had the best bacon butty ever. WELL what a disappointment😫. I never generally do reviews but want to warn anyone who is thinking about going. Don’t waste your money. We had a bacon baguette. The bacon was totally incinerated and tasteless. The bread roll didn’t have any butter on, and the egg was like rubber. I should have complained but was embarrassed to do so. WILL NOT BE VISITING AGAIN 😞

A legendary place to eat in Bristol , the bacon sandwiches are very nice but the irony is they don’t use butter ! It’s margarine and I hate it! ….it simply has to be a good quality salted butter for all sandwiches.

Nice people, good outdoor seating and food served quickly. Chips were great and home made pastie really nice. Maybe would be good to have some gravy or sauce on top or the offer of it when you order. Hope to be back when next passing by!

Coffee ok sausage roll over microwaved and greasy, tomato sauce very translucent and tasteless. Been there several years ago and it was very good. Shame as there is several nice places close by.

Nice little place by Bristol docks outside seating with a canopy over nice food and a good cup of coffee.

If I could leave 0 stars I would, Brunel's buttery is an utter waste of time, it doesn't help that for years living in Bristol I've heard how great the bacon sandwiches are here, that is just not true. The bacon was thick and not well cooked and enjoyable, the bread was huge thick slices and very dry with hard dry crusts, the wait was long, and the condiments come in a huge messy tomato covered bottle which is too big to aim your ketchup into sandwich as the bottle is roughly the mass of a bucket, so very awkward to get your sauce on the sandwich. I would never come here again and feel that I totally wasted my money

Arrived a bit late in the afternoon, but was made welcome.

Had read about Brunels Buttery on here prior to my trip so wanted to visit. Wasn't dissapointed. Had the sausage, egg and bacon sandwich and shared some cheesy chips and they were lovely. Definitely recommend a visit, especially on a sunny day when you can sit watching the boats go by on the harbour.

Brunels Buttery, right on the dockside, is a Bristol institution. It should be Grade One listed - as one of the best places to eat in Bristol. This doesn't pretend to be a "posh" eatery - it's just absolute top-quality breakfast, morning and lunchtime snacks and coffee. Of course it's famed for their bacon butties in all shapes, sizes and varieties. Freshly cooked to order and eaten in the open (but under cover and shaded in this hot weather). It's fun to sit and eat and watch the harbour activities pass by. And this morning, we had a steam trains taking people on short trips along the harbour as well. If you are in Bristol, this is a MUST DO.

Looks a bit run down but giand burgers and sandwiches. Taste good too. And reasonable priced.

We alway call here for breakfast when we visit Bristol. Today we had breakfast and a lunchtime snack. The sausage cobs are always good. Very friendly and cheerful. This is not a inside cafe and all seating is outside but mainly covered.

Had a bacon and egg bap - the egg was a reheated congealed blob which was revolting. Easily the worst egg I've ever had. They're also very selfish, waking everyone up who lives nearby with their stupid pointless leaf blower every morning.
