We ate at the Cafe Savannah today, we didn’t know anything about Long Stratton or the eateries in the village, but we’re really lucky we chose to eat here. Everything about the cafe was genuine...the welcome and the fabulous freshly cooked food. The quality of the food was first class, we both had beef burgers as our mains and were both delighted by the quality of the burgers. Later was informed provided by the local butcher. Equally coffee really full of flavour. Easy parking - right next to car park. Well worth a visit...if we need to go back to Long Stratton I know where I shall pop back to for lunch. Thank you.

Stopped off enroute as needed a 'comfort break'. Eventually found the entrance and greeted by a friendly smiley lady at the counter. Ordered our drinks and sausage sandwiches and asked to use the toilet. Advised these were locked and a man also behind the counter confirmed it needed a key to open which kind of made us feel awkward. Sandwiches arrived which we have to say were beautifully cooked and very tasty. They went down very well but would have gone down a whole lot better if the total cost for two sausage sandwiches and a tea and coffee was less than the £12.70 we were charged.

Really nice decor inside serving a standard coffee shop menu. Had a milkshake while it was freshly made but strangely wasn't that cold. For a busy car park and in the town centre surprised we the only people in there. Member of staff was scruffy and very quiet and more interested in cleaning down for the day even though it was only 3pm.

First walked in was fine but clearly didn't want to make polite conversation which I felt a little odd considering this grey haired chap must of owned it. If he doesn't like his job maybe he should give it up! I only ordered a coffee did want more after that felt I had out stayed my welcome so made a rather quick dash for the door! Shame it's such a lovely cafe! Love the Rock and roll theme. Sadly won't be going back. Coffee was a little weak and nearly burnt my lips off!! Considering I had a latte! But then again I'm not sure if this wasn't done on purpose. All terribly strange! Maybe they need someone to work on till and have grey hair man to do all the behind the scenes certainly running it into the ground. They had signs up on the paths too so they obviously want business! Confused?? maybe I wasn't liked. He made me wait why he gave people their drinks sitting on the table which of course was fine he was apologetic about that which I had no problem with and made that clear! So this was strange that he went on to make me feel uncomfortable. He certainly needs a customer service training course without a doubt I own a successful business were customer service is key! He would be packed out like the car park if he bothered more!

Passed by and thought it might be a nice place for lunch..... Oh dear,. waited half an hour to be served, place was empty, very amateur cooking, had two under toasted "cheese melts" which hadn't, and a plowmans lunch which appeared to be thrown together with large lumps of cheese, huge pickled onion which was uncutable. No wonder the place was empty at lunchtime on Saturday afternoon...

Had lunch here today with my wife and our two boys (2 & 4). Food, service, prices and atmosphere were all perfectly fine. The seating area is clean and well presented. (Having parked nearby we chose to eat here due to the choice on the menu and the 5 star food hygiene rating). It was a pleasant enough lunch and we felt perfectly welcome. None of it was noteworthy enough that I would ordinarily have written a review but I reading some of the other reviews I thought a balanced view was needed.

I have never in my life felt so unwelcome in an establishment in my entire life. From the way the owner snapped at me to the deathly stares, it is clear that the owner has issues, he even had the nerve to charge me separately for milk for the coffee I ordered!. I hope that people see this review and think twice about visiting this horrible place.

Nice little café, stopped for a coffee, I was going to the other place, but my wife persuaded me to try this one. I always ask for a macchiato, only a coffee shop with know-how can produce a decent macchiato without instruction, and this was one of the best I had out in a long time. In no small measure due to the beans they're using, good choice there. The owners I think are on the shy side, not the sort that will start a conversation with every customer that comes in. However I was asking about bacon cooking and we ended up having a conversation with both of them for over 20 minutes. Even though it was closing time and at the end of a long day, they were both friendly and cheerful.Pity we aren't in Long Stratton very often, I would call back again next time I'm passing through.

A small coffee bar that we thought we would patronise while only in Long Stratton for an hour. Wish I had seen these comments I would never have set foot in the place. Normally if I smell burnt bacon I walk straight out - I should have. But I thought its ok the seats and tables look clean enough and I can go into the area that has some windows and open them to let the smoke and smell out. we ordered and paid - I said I would have a egg mayo sandwich but could I have cress with it - the male member of staff said no its not allowed by eu law - I said that's a shame I had some last night at the restaurant we went to and he said well you shouldn't have they were breaking the law. I then mentioned I would open the windows to let the smell out and he said well you can't keep them open it will be cold - at this point I said well we could leave - but I was hungry and needed a coffee. the sandwich was all mayo hardly any egg and the coffee was rubbish. As the lady came through to put the plates on our table he made a show of closing the windows. I noticed he had an uncovered wound by his elbow - I thought blue plasters were supposed to be used - as he had short sleeves on this could have easily been touching all sorts of things. I went to the small toilet and no hot water. This was used by the lady member of staff again I would have thought hot water for washing was a prerequisite too. We ate, we left, we said thank you as we have manners but he ignored us - a dismal café and a poor work ethic with unpleasant miserable staff. Do not visit. I will probably send this review to trading standards as well - amazing such an establishment can exist when there are others in the village.

We work in Long Stratton and would usually go to the bakery but opted for a change. The 4 of us walked in and despite being the only customers in there (which I thought was odd at 1pm!) we were not acknowleged. We took a seat and no one came to take our order so i asked if we had to come up and order food, which we did. The woman and man in there didn't smile at all and i have to say the range of food is very limited especially if you don't eat bread. When the food arrived it was ok but we all commented how unfriendly the place is and we won't be going back. I advise anyone to try somewhere else (anywhere else!) in Long Stratton rather than go to Brown Sugar.

We went for lunch my friend and I. We weren't acknowledged when we went in. Eventually they take our order. 1 tuna melt. 1 bacon Brie and cranberry melt. There were only 2 other tables occupied, and they had their food and drink. We found a table. After 30 mins I decide to ask how long it's going to be. Lady was very rude and said 5 mins. Eventually they arrive. My friends bacon was cremated not crispy. I had cranberry jam smeared all over my tuna melt, that wasn't really a melt because the cheese was warm and sweaty but not melted. There was no apology for the length of time it took to prepare 2 straightforward melts in a quiet cafe. There was no smile. Dreadfully disappointing.

So we sit at a table and there isn't anyone else in there and I'm not saying my daughter was being a little angel she wasn't shouting or screaming and the women came over and said if you don't make your kid be quiet I will ask you to leave! If it wasn't for the fact that I hadn't already ordered and paid for my food I would of left!! Will never be going back!!

I've visited this cafe several times with my husband and friends. The food and drinks are excellent and the decor is pleasant. Unfortunately, the proprietor is quite unfriendly and if you visit an hour or later before closing time, you are told there is no hot food available. The last time I visited, my friend and I had been caught in the rain and were feeling damp and uncomfortable. We asked for hot sandwiches only to be told, there was no hot food, the time was 2.45. I shall not be visiting this establishment again.

There are a number of baby and toddler groups running in Long Stratton and mums looking to go for coffee after so Brown Sugar should be tapping this business opportunity. In reality, the owner is not interested in customer service. On entering, the owner watched me and my disabled mum carry the pushchair down the steep steps-there was nobody else in the cafe so he could have helped! My mum cut her hand on the metal bannister and reported this to him-he couldn't have been less interested. The food is ok, the coffee nice. However, service with a smile it is not and everything is too much trouble for the guy. Will not return.

We went for a quick(!) lunch. We asked if there was a table for two - and we could see a table with an empty chair and clear. The owners said, off-handedly, "No". We looked anyway, and there was an uncleared table for four, and a cleared one with just one chair. We decided to take the uncleared one. I went back, and said "there is one but it needs clearing." His response? "That'll take 15-20 minutes." We ordered anyway (I am on insulin and needed to eat); after paying - in advance - he said, again in an offhand voice,"You'll have to wait 15-20 minutes, we're busy." I responded, "Surely we can have our drinks a bit sooner than that?" Response,"We only serve in the order people come in."Despite his coming into the dining area several times, not once did he remove any dirty china or cutlery. When the people next to us left,we cleared our table onto the next one; our table was still dirty though. Our drinks took about 15 minutes to come - and one was only a glass of orange juice, no preparation. The meal was finally delivered by his wife after 42 minutes - and placed on a still dirty table. We saw that another couple also had to eat off a dirty table - the owner asked them if they wouldn't like to move to a clean one (the only clean one being very cramped), and they said,"No, we want this one."The meal was very nice, and well-presented; but the attitude of the owner was quite unacceptable. We will not go there again - and we eat out in the Long Stratton area every week, so he has lost a lot of repeat business. Why the resistance to clearing the tables? It takes no more than 30 seconds to clear and wipe a table, so why not do it? Why not take some dirty crockery back after delivering drinks? And why so offhand and confrontational to his customers?Quite honestly, this guy does not deserve to stay in business, on this showing. A shame, it could be very nice and congenial, and convenient, since we and many others shop at the Co-op across the car park.

This could be a wonderful place for coffee in Long Stratton, but the owners attitude and greed will be his downfall!I ordered almost £25 worth of food and a coffee to drink while we waited. Needless to say we had to wait over half an hour for simple baked potatoes! The owner was gruff and discourteous and gave the impression his customers were just an inconvenience. When my coffee arrived, no milk came with it. Thinking this was a simple oversight, I went to the counter and asked for some, only to be asked for 30p extra! After explaining I only wanted a drop for my coffee, he said curtly, "30p extra for a white coffee."I could not beleive it! I only have a little drop in my coffee - about 2tsp, and did not take kindly to having to pay 30p for it!Of all the coffee shops I have been to throughout the country - and I have been to many - NEVER have I had to pay more for a drop of milk to put in my coffee!!I will NEVER go back there again - it was a horrible experience!!

This coffee shop is perfectly situated in the little village of Long Stratton, just south west of Norwich. There is ample free parking and the decor is contemporary and tasteful. The coffee menu is excellent and professional in what it offers. I have visited this establishment twice in the past 6 months as my husband is working nearby on business. My first visit was in November and I ordered a cappuccino, which was excellent. On my table there was a card offering a warm mince pie with brandy cream .... very tempting. When I asked to partake, the owner gruffly informed me that he has sold out. Understandable, but his attitude bothered me. There was little sense of apology and I got the feeling that he was annoyed by my request. A courteous apology and the removal of the card from each of the tables would have been good - the offer of an alternative would have been even better! My second visit was with my husband - at 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The sign on the door said that the coffee shop was open until 4:30pm .... plenty of time for a good cup of coffee and maybe even a slice of cake. We entered (please be aware that there are stairs leading down to the coffee shop) and there was only one other customer, sitting in the comfy leather sofa area ..... we were greeted curtly by the owner who informed is that the shop was closing. He then proceeded to tell the customer on the sofa that he had to leave too! This guy was not impressed! I am guessing that in the current economic climate, business is tough at the moment .... but the owner of this establishment clearly does not need his customers! My advice to him would be to listen to the needs of his customers, stay open for the advertised hours and don't turn people away or out of his shop! This appalling approach to business in the hospitality trade will be his downfall. It is a shame .... as this place has such potential.
