Shop had a wide range of local products and meat from the farm. Local beers/wine/gin, 3 for 2 on sausages. We think the meat was cheaper than at the farmers market so worth the drive if you buy a larger quantity. The coffee shop was excellent, breakfast meals until 12 then a lunch time menu. Range of all days meals, bacon roll for example. Bacon roll was outstanding, 3 large thick slices of flavoursome bacon in a soft roll. Childrens meals good value. Lovely atmosphere, busy but food only took 5 mins to arrive. Coffee good quality. Definitely recommend a visit. Lambs, piglets, some goats and a forest adventure area which you need to book tickets for. Closed on my visit but will come back. Bring wellies!

Superb staff! Greeted warmly, all very friendly, with beaming, genuine smiles (visited Sunday 24 March). We enjoyed a burger and chips which was superb, and a sausage roll which was on the small side but nice. Cakes, tray bakes and coffee also excellent. Lovely atmosphere with fresh flowers on the tables. Excellent outside space and enjoyed seeing the little pigs and other farm animals. Will definitely be back!

We set Broom House as our midpoint of a dog walk on holiday. We planned to get there and decide whether we wanted coffee and cake, breakfast or lunch. After a visit to the excellent farm shop, where we sorted meals for the week, we sat down in the cafe and settled on breakfast. We had a full breakfast and eggs Benedict and they couldn’t have been any better. It was clear that the ingredients were top quality and fresh and served piping hot. To top it off Jane, the boss, was kind enough to give us enough time to send us off on the best route home. Thank you.

We visit Broom House farm semi-regularly with our young kids and it is one of our favourite places to visit The staff in the cafe are so lovely and welcoming. The cakes are delicious and there's a great range of gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. My 3yo absolutely loves the carrot cake and will turn her nose up at any other carrot cake now, its that good! The fire is on in the winter which makes the cafe lovely and cosy. The farm shop sells an excellent variety of organic produce and gifts Our toddler loves seeing the animals and playing outside on the ride on tractor toys, hay bales and in the sand pit. My only complaint is that the ride on tractors are starting to break which tbf they do see a lot of heavy use (broken seat on one, and dodgy wheels on the other 2) so it would be great if Broom House could replace those for their small tractor loving guests.

My first visit for many years. My choice of a BLT sandwich was expertly prepared, very tasty with first class ingredients. My partners choice was a hot beef sandwich on Gluten free bread. While this too proved to be very tasty I feel presentation could be improved greatly if it was served on a GF bread bun rather than sliced bread as GF bread has a tendency to break up.

Discrimination is discrimination. People with food allergies - not really welcome. Went here with 4 kids and 6 adults. The day started off great with beautiful rays of sunshine, then the rain came which couldn't be helped. After we went to the cafe to order some food. One of the kids, my nephew, (boy aged 2) has a severe food allergy, his parents tend to not risk feeding him food from just anywhere as they've had some severe reactions from different places in the past, (specially when one of the tea spoons with one of our coffees had ketchup smudges) so they bring food with them wherever they go ,which I'm sure any parent with kids with autism and allergies can understand, is stressful enough. In this instance my nephews' parents brought over sausage rolls that my nephew can eat to get rid of any the risk of any reactions. Let's just say that The staff and manager in the cafe were both rude and condescending to our situation. Please understand that it's not like we brought a picnic, it's a pack of sausage rolls for my nephew, and if the other kids wanted to try or have some of course they were open to. Everyone else had ordered meals and food throughout our visit, including the other 3 kids, it's not like we didn't. The staff were "happy" for my nephew to eat away at another set of picnic tables - away from his family? He's 2. Oh yeah remember its also raining. Does my nephew having sausage rolls negate the rest of the family having food? Absolutely atrocious attitude towards a child with disability. No you will not "sweep it under the rug" - the fact that a child with allergy is eating food that he can eat. Just because "other places do it" doesn't make it right? Understandably, some of us were angry and spoke to staff in ways that we wouldn't normally, but please put yourself in our position. Imagine if that's a family member or your own son, daughter or grandchild. To the "manager/supervisor" who came out to try and diffuse the situation; you need to learn how to deal with customers, you did not try to diffuse the situation, you came in not trying to find out more information to help the situation, you came with the attitude that you are right and we're wrong. You my friend, need extra support in your job, extra training, otherwise unfortunately, you'll be doing the wrong thing without even knowing or understanding why. Empathy and diffusing situations is part of your job. All in all the forest trek was great, my burger was actually lush and even though it was busy my food actually came out in good time. My family and I, go to Broom House farm about 5-6 times every year. This visit, will unfortunately be the last. If you have a family member or a child with allergies, I would strongly recommend what I've mentioned before considering going.

Visited the coffee shop this morning. It’s been a while since I had last been to there coffee shop as always found their breakfasts to be served almost cold, but was calling into their fabulous farm shop. Butchery is amazing. Coffee shop far to overcrowded. Staff so slow. Coffee arrived 20mins before the food which was only a very burnt tea cake and a lukewarm bacon butty. Reminded me why I don’t visit very often.

We go mainly for the shop and butchers, although the breakfasts in the coffee shop are wonderful too! The butchers are very friendly and knowledgeable (with some interesting stories to tell if they’re not too busy and you have a few minutes!) and the meat is always top quality. As older people on a limited budget we are selective about what we eat and prefer to pay a bit more for the best quality. It helps to know that the animals have had decent care and that the meat is safe to eat. We occasionally buy little ‘treats’ from the shop as gifts for friends too. It’s a delightful place and we always enjoy our visits.

I'm a 61 y o bloke from Durham DH1 but had never heard of Broom House Farm. My male friend from Wakefield & I were on our way to Derwent Reservoir. Sat. August 2023. Our visit to BHF was OK. We enjoyed it, mostly. We did think its is more geared for children/ families, ie attractions but we did like that. ( animals, swings etc.).The seating area outside was fine apart from a plethora of " No picnics" signs. Our cooked breakfasts were excellent. Very tasty. ( I'd have preferred more toast). The downside, from memory, however, was that we paid £28. xx. for 2 cooked breakfasts & a pot of tea for 2. That was nearly £13.00 for ONE cooked breakfast. !!! ( I later asked the price of one breakfast). That is nothing short of over- priced & that is putting it mildly. I can get an all- you - can- eat cooked breakfast for £5.99, Mon to Fri & £6.99 on a Sat at a " Toby Carvery". A great place for families but at prices like this unfortunately this will be our first & last visit .

What a brilliant day out. All the staff are friendly. Forest adventure is amazing for the children. I get how frustrating it is for them. Especially reading other reviews. It's very clear the rants are purely because people can't get their own way. Absolutely nothing wrong with the ladies tone or manner. We joked with her all day about the stern info . In my view, it's very much needed, as you can see the disrespect some visitors had. Good on you for putting your foot down. Why should other visitors have to stand back and watch childish grown ups do as they please. Yes, they are also right about picnics being in a separate place. It is a business after all 😊 keep up the hard work. Well done to your dedicated staff.

The place was dirty, not dirty like farm muddy, but dirty like the cutlery we were given with our first round of cuppas had ketchup on it (No we hadn't had anything with ketchup). Meaning the dishes were not clean. Customer service was pretty unacceptable. I like a business who understands that they have a responsibility to treat their customers equally, without discrimination or unfair treatment on the basis of certain personal characteristics. People with food allergies shouldn’t feel excluded from family days out. Sharing food together plays a big part in relationship building, social interaction and celebration. When allergies are very severe they are considered a disability. I have never been anywhere that has excluded my nephew for his allergies before this. However AFTER explaining to the staff and later the manager that he had severe food allergies and that due to ending up in hospital on numerous occasions that we would not feed him food purchased at the café the manager continued to insist that next time we came he would have to use the picnic area. This felt very much like discrimination towards him which was very upsetting to see as he is only 2. I noticed one member of staff did seem concerned how this would look to the other customers in the cafe at the time and shouted to me that it was 'NOT discrimination'. I was with my family, About 10 of us in total. We spent over £50 on food in the café and farm shop as well as around £48 on adventure tickets for the kids. Everyone has the right to a review of their day out and that's my take on it. Should the place change their policy on the matter and train their staff properly around discrimination, then I would happily change my reviews.

Went with my two sons today on one of our many visits over the years - 2 of the 3 of us are dairy intolerant and the staff are always spot on at noting requests for swaps. I don’t have a serious allergy so no idea what that’s like but I happened to notice the couple of negative reviews around this and figured that I wouldn’t want a decent local business to get a bad rep unnecessarily. Over the nearly 15 years we’ve been up and down the hill we’ve had cracking times here, birthday parties, brunches, cakes and even an odd Sunday lunch (it remains the only commercial setting I’ve ever had a dairy free Yorkshire pudding done for me) and have seen many staff come and go - sometimes over the years service has been slow, sometimes they make mistakes with the order, sometimes I’ve even been grumpy with the staff and but in every case verbal feedback or even an email has been welcomed and followed up. I have to say over the last couple of years despite staffing issues I’ve found service has been similar to today - friendly, fairly quick given how busy it can be and decent quality unfussy breakfast. The butchery guys are always friendly and happy to do any cut you like. Broom house farm is not perfect and the guys don’t always get it right but my experience is that most things can be resolved with a chat and a smile.

Lovely day out here. Plenty to do for children, especially 5 and over. They loved the fairy trail and all the activities. Only one or two parents not supervising properly and the rest were which made it a good day out as not constantly having to tell other children not to push in etc. Lovely Ice Cream and not too many wasps - one positive of the terrible weather lately! Cafe great too and nice and clean as were the toilets. Very good value day out. Only downside is that even if only one member of the group needs to bring their own food, the rest can’t use the cafe either and need to all sit in the picnic area. We were happy in the picnic area but would have preferred perhaps a minimum spend or similar instead to guarantee a seat so the others didn’t have to limit their choices and get stuff that was was easy to carry to the picnic area or could be eaten on the floor if no seats when we got there ie. Really means can’t get a hot drink or need to do it at a separate time to lunch to sit in the cafe area. I understand why though and the picnic area is nice.. The burgers coming out of the kitchen as we ordered looked absolutely delicious. Highly recommend, nice day out that’s a little bit different.

Amazing sausages. We bought four packs, two pork and leek and two others. The sausages were really meaty with no fat and very filling. The shop was very busy when we visited on a rainy Saturday morning and would have benefited from an extra pair of hands behind the serving counter. There was only one lady serving and three butchers so the queue was quite long to get served. The farm shop seems very well stocked, parking is good and is certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.

Ordered a burger from the barbeque which tasted fine but was very plain and I could have done the same or better at home for a quick Friday night dinner. Great location and friendly staff. The farm shop was excellent.

What a surprise. From little acorns do mighty oaks grow. Looking at the small unassuming entrance to the woods it did not look like it was worth the £6.50 entry fee. However they give you several quizzes to answer from the noticeboards throughout the woodland...

Been great so far. Especially appreciative of the dude with the chops who probably plays rugby going to the effort of getting another rib roast out of the back fairly late on a Saturday, and preparing it (quite interesting to watch too, first time I've seen a bone saw used properly) but also just in love with all the meat most (all?) of which comes from here, nom nom nom. And even better you can say hello to your future food as the farm surrounds the shop. Would be nice if you could pick a particular cow for 2024's fine dining but that can come later. Don't forget to ask for a loyalty card by the way. I think we're on about 5 stars and building them up quickly. Shame they are not open on Monday but none of the good food around here is, I understand why. Can't comment on the Forest Adventure as am not the target demographic...
