Brook's in Calderdale

I considered whether or not to write this review but hopefully it can be used to inform future customer service. I booked this restaurant for my dad’s 80th birthday via the email booking system. The system asks for any special instructions which most do, so I put that it was my dad’s 80th and also asked if they could save him oysters or get some in (as that’s why we booked Brook’s). I also asked if they had (Campari) his favourite drink. I didn’t get a response so I called a few days before we were due to visit. I explained I hadn’t had any response to my booking request and was told ‘well you won’t have we don’t read them’. Which I thought was a missed opportunity and a bit slack. Anyway, I was assured that they would definitely have them but nothing was said about the Campari I’d mentioned (incidentally they did have it). Arrived on the Thursday at 7pm which was really quiet. We were shown to our table. The food. Oysters - amazing Bread and marmite butter - amazing. Cod masala (I think) - good Duck-very good Korean Cauliflower - best dish. Really tasty and well cooked. Give me a whole one. Ox heart - good We had a few other dishes but these are the ones that stood out. Service was ok but nothing outstanding. Spent £150 for 3 people (including 3 wines, 3 beers and of course 1 Campari!). We had a good night with some good food but customer service could definitely improve. Maybe start by just reading the email bookings, noting what’s in them and acting on them because there was no mention whatsoever of it being a special evening. No ‘congratulations’ on being 80. No ‘happy birthday’ written on dad’s plate for his dessert. These are simple touches that do make a difference and touches that other establishments are all over.

Wow. First time visiting Brook's for a number of years, but I don't think it will be long until our next. From start to finish, this restaurant ticked all the boxes: friendly welcome, attentive waitress who made some super suggestions regarding the menu (sorry, I can't remember her name, but she's from Croatia). The food was out of this world - such a range of dishes, perfectly prepared. From the goat cheese profiteroles to the Korean cauliflower (AMAZING) to the burrata with peaches. Everything was spot on and our compliments to the chef.

Excellent food - all delicious. Excellent service - perfectly timed bringing out of dishes and wonderfully friendly. All round brilliant. Please go as you won’t be disappointed.

This restaurant really has got it right at the moment the ambience is relaxed but busy the service is spot on and the choice on the menu ticks boxes for everyone. Every dish we chose was fabulous the flavors in every dish were spot on. We couldn’t resist having a couple of the goats cheese profiteroles as a snack too as they are the best. We will definitely return

Our local restaurant but this recent seasonal menu has pushed even more culinary boundaries. Took my in-laws who’ve dined at wonderful restaurants all over the world & they were blown away by the sensational dishes & drinks.

Wonderful food that never disappoints. First time visit for Sunday lunch - Mother’s Day, excellent. Cheese profiterole, malt bread, sea bass, crab, buratta (sublime) plus chicken and flat iron streak. Steak a bit tough but other than that great. Followed by a Doz Madeline’s, interesting wine list and great value for money: I love this place and wish it was more local to me

OMG, our 2nd visit in 3 months, so different menu this time. Initially disappointed some of our faves from last time weren’t on there, but no need to worry. The chef knows their food…..absolutely delicious. Love love love the oysters, & the iconic goat’s cheese profiteroles. We tried most of the dishes & all were really tasty. Not the cheapest of meals out, but happy to pay for the food, drinks & lovely ambience. The staff are really friendly & happy to recommend dishes. A great local business to support, worth going with some friends so you get to try as many dishes as possible. Highly recommend!

Visit Brook’s fairly regularly and have reviewed before but just had to post again. Today’s Sunday lunch was sublime. The goats cheese profiteroles never disappoint. The monkfish was amazing. The flat iron steak so tasty. Today’s cauli cheese was next level. And the service was spot on, faultless. We just love this place!!

Came here for a last minute date night and absolutely loved everything! From the signature goat’s cheese profiteroles to the stunning Gloucester old spot T-bone, we adored everything. The staff were lovely and the drink selection was beyond anything else you can get in Brighouse. 10/10 will DEFINITELY be back!

Thought the staff were realy rude the food was not good and then the person that had oysters has had food poisoning and been realy bad for a week not a good experience would never go back and would certainly not recommend to anyone

Beautiful food and superb service. Wasn't sure about the tapas theme but needn't have worried everything we'd had was wonderful and tasty. We can highly recommend Brook's for a special treat & a lovely night out.

Had this place highly recommended but on the first visit not impressed. Staff couldn't advise on food as new menu and they wasn't sure. Asked for all our tapas together but came very spread out and cold. Very expensive for what you got. Asked about my food and evening from the staff, which I politey told them but didn't seem to care

Went here recently for a family birthday meal. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the service was fantastic and the food was amazing! However it is pricy!! Our lovely waitress suggested 2-3 dishes per person which I agree was the right amount - however most of the dishes averaged around £10+ and there were hardly any vegetable dishes . I ordered some braised cabbage with chestnut hummus and pomegranate which was delicious but I do think £10 for a tiny portion of cabbage was excessive!!! There are a few nibbles to have as starters which were delicious but again £3.50 for one (literally one mouthful) tiny profiterole stuffed with goats cheese seemed overpriced!!

We had the small plates here. The first thing I noticed is the service is impeccable, and the couple who run it are perfect hosts. We were hosted by the wife and staff. We had the warm bread and marmite butter; tasted something pretty much identical at a a Michelin starred restaurant. The rest of the plates were 10/10 too; a great mix of perfect delicately balanced dishes which were a joy to eat, I would definitely recommend this place if you’re visiting brighouse. It’s Michelin starred standard.

Excellent Saturday morning brunch spent with family. Menu was varied and provided something for everyone in our party. Staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely return.

Had probably my favourite Sunday dinner here today, the bread & marmite is amazing as are the truffle and honey profiteroles. Had the lamb small plate and roast chicken with plenty of trimmings, all superb! No complaints a out service, friendly and the right level of attentive, Will be back soon

Brooks doesn’t disappoint, this is the second time we have visited and just as good. We had the goats cheese profiteroles and the Thai prawn toast to start. For main we shared crab and fennel crumpet, the cheese soufflé, potato terrine, pork chop with Café de Paris butter, ricotta leeks and cod with wild mushroom and Bernaise sauce. Standout dishes for us were the goats cheese profiteroles, potato terrine and the cod, all paired with a bottle of Gruner vetliner, smashing. Finally we shared a pecan and treacle tart which came with the yummiest cinnamon ice cream. Service was great even though the restaurant was busy. Thank you Brooks and see you again soon!

First visit here which we were very much looking forward to. We ordered: crab crumpet, burrata, blue cheese souffle, cod, potato terrine & salt baked beetroot. With soda bread. The food came out in a sensible order with the first three dishes arriving one after each other. Then the cod & potatoes came. I asked the waitress if the beetroot could also be brought out as this would be nice to be eaten with the fish & potatoes. She was so rude "this is a tapas restaurant and the food doesn't come out together" I said that I was aware of this, she snapped back "did you say something else" I repeated that I was aware of the style of the restaurant but would like the beetroot to be served, if possible, together with the fish. Needless to say this had been too much to ask. The beetroot finally arrived & it was just about warm. I suspect she held it back on purpose. The food was nice apart from the potato terrien which was very greasy. The sour dough bread was minimal, around 1.5 slices for £3! But it was the attitude of the waitress that tainted the meal out. I have never been snapped at when asking if something was possible. She seemed like a senior waitress as she was the only one in a dress whereas all the others had black trousers & a T-shirt on. We won't be going back.

Really poor. Went for brunch and the food took ages to come. Staff were unapologetic and started arguing with us about the length of time it took. Really unprofessional. Plates had huge chips in them and did not reflect the prices they charge.

Went for Sunday lunch today and it was fantastic from the moment we walked the ambiance music service and overall atmosphere was excellent. Lots to choose from and we couldnt fault Anything plenty of gravy as some places want to give u a thimble full great steak served to perfection and the veg beautiful. We were a large group booking for Sunday lunch. Lovely as always, staff were attentive and the food and drink was delicious. One of the most consistent restaurants around, I’ll certainly be heading back.

We have visited Brooks many times now and have never been disappointed. The menu changes regularly and they can acter for gluten free. A brilliant local place to eat!

Overpriced, £7 for 2 chicken nuggets , we have been to a few 5 star restaurants, And eaten at Michelin star restaurants So over priced , the nuggets were the size of a cocktail sausage ! Will not be coming again !

Made our second trip to Brooks’s for brunch - we’d been before for Sunday lunch and now finally getting around to writing a review. Every visit has been fab. Beautiful food - imaginatively put together, quality ingredients and served in a relaxed and stylish setting. Today hubby had Croque Madame with a side of black pudding and agrees with Jay Rayner that this is the black pudding against which all others will be judged. I had crumpets with goats cheese whipped and topped with honey and toasted pecans and a side of bacon chop. The whipped goats cheese was delightful and my pairing of the bacon was inspired if I say so myself adding salt to the sweetness. The honey was flowery and so tasty Himself had 2 bloody Mary’s (best ever apparently) and I had 2 breakfast martinis - a joyful glass of gin, Cointreau and orange marmalade. I can’t believe we’ve only relatively recently found this place and will be back soon.

Over rated and over priced We were not informed when booking that we had a time limit of 2 hours on our table !

Tonight was our first visit to Brook’s and it certainly won’t be our last. Fantastic, attentive, friendly service and exceptionally delicious food. We will definitely go back.

The best food we have had in ages, I went tonight with my daughter and everything from beginning to end was the best. Between us we had grain salad, cauliflower pakoras, roast butternut squash, fillet of pork, fish cakes and pecan pie, every mouthful was delicious. We don’t live nearby but it is certainly worth the drive.

This was our 2nd visit since under new ownership and we enjoyed it even more than the 1st time. It was absolutely delicious, the best meal we’ve had in a long time. The belly pork main course was to die for. We will definitely be back. This restaurant is an absolute must for anyone who appreciates really great food...you’ll not be disappointed. My wife and I went to Brooks last week, we had been before but it was under the last owners who had been in place for 30 years. It was 'nice' when we went last time but we did not rush back, I guess you would say it was a little stuffy.Well, we went last week, I know the new owners have been in a while but what a difference they have made. Lovely fresh feel about the place, great menu and new style of eating which I did not expect. The 'lighter' plates were fantastic and our main course of belly pork was out of this world. The staff know their menu and were really helpful. Well done. What a great place to go and relax, cannot wait to go back.

Went here tonight to celebrate family exam results. The food was the best weve had in years (5 of us all agreed and one of us is a chef by trade) Nice place, excellent service. We will absolutely be going here again (not stupidly expensive, certainly got what we paid for)

Very friendly from the moment we stepped in, felt cosy, special and very safe without overt references to covid and the food was completely faultless. The best meal out we've had and we're already planning when we can treat ourselves again. If like me, you've been planning to go for years, you should definitely go now!

We ate here on Saturday for the first time and it was faultless..The food was exceptional ..they like to promote a sharing experience but you can have the standard 3 course tho we did get that we did end up sharing our food anyway because it looked so good!..I had a mackerel scotch egg with a runny yoke and my husband had the salmon fish cakes tho both were delicious the scotch egg was too die for..our mains were lobster for me and steak for my hubby again both delicious we did manage dessert and again my elderflower custard tart was light and delicious and my husband cherry cheesecake was lovely too ..They did say there is a change of menu this week tho.We will be definitely going back has all the staff were polite and very helpful ..

We visited here recently for a special anniversary...our first meal out since lock down ended. The restaurant was spacious and airy. We felt confident that it was following all necessary Covid procedures. The food was quite delicious and suited us well as we were able to taste several small dishes which we prefer to being overwhelmed by a big plateful. We were particularly taken by the smoked mackerel scotch egg. The service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
