I'm unsure where these other reviewers have been because I can't believe it's the same place I've been going to for the last 7 years... Brooklands Nurseries is the kind of place where you get exactly what you pay for, that is of course if you want a hot, filling meal and friendly staff welcoming you. The views are spectacular, it makes you proud to be in one of the most underrated places in Yorkshire. My favourite and go to meal is the hot chicken and stuffing sandwich and chips. It is genuinely the only cafe I've ever been too which offers this on the menu and it keeps me coming back time and time again. The chicken is always succulent, the gravy thick and tasty and the stuffing is fluffy and seasoned to perfection. If this alone doesn't sell this place to you then hold onto your hats... Not only do they have fantastic proper Yorkshire views but they have created a home for different types of wildlife with the pond and animal enclosures including Swans, Geese, Chickens, Ducks and Wallabies. I've seen people comment that it feels like they're kept in a back garden and maybe that is the vibe as you walk up but surely Chester Zoo and Beaumont Park were someone's back garden once? I feel like with some patience this little haven for these animals can only grow and I personally love being able to feed them and watch them as I eat. Not only this but they offer trail guides to anyone who is a walking/hiking enthusiast, I personally enjoy the walk down to Holmfirth after my meal to go and look at all the fantastic charity shops and scenic views Holmfirth also has to offer. I have been to Brooklands Nurseries on the sunniest, most glorious days and enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the fresh air. I have also been on the wettest, foggiest days and enjoyed the cosy atmosphere inside chatting with the ladies who run the cafe. For anyone who is in the Holmfirth area, I would definitely recommend jumping on the 310 bus up to Scholes and take a walk left along the road from the pub. Stop in and say hello to Brooklands Nurseries and I can guarantee you, you won't be disappointed!

Came to collect the flowers I ordered and thought wel just call in for a bite to eat. 1 large breakfast, 2 coffees, and a bacon and tomato sandwich cost just under £30!! The bacon and tomato sandwich came to just under £8.50! For 2 pieces of bacon and a few slithers of tomatoe in a teacake! Felt totally ripped off, so I left the flowers! So today, I had a reminder phone call to collect the flowers I ordered, and I politely said I won't be collecting them as I felt totally ripped off with the breakfast! the man then said im barred from ever visiting again for voicing my opinion. I even took a picture of the sandwich as I couldn't believe I paid that much money for a sandwich, which is normally around £4 😅 Apparently, I couldn't have ever eaten out before as that's the standard price everywhere!... Well, I'm sorry to say it's absolutely not especially in a cafe.

Nice coffee but microwaved pork pie and peas horrendous. I like a crispy pastry but this was like eating raw dough. Who microwaves a pie? Not good. Basic kitchen and cooking. Stick with a sandwich. Nice spot spoilt by very basic, average food.

Disappointing burger , I was expecting a thick juicy burger as it said it was from a well known local farm shop , I got a thin overcooked dry burger, there were no buns available which was accepted but no discount given . Overall poor value for money ,also soft drink’s expensive.

You will have to win the lottery or be so rich that you don't care about money to visit this place. This used to be my go to cafe for the past 20 years after walking up holmfirth. Not been for a while. Visited this morning for a breakfast. The prices are extortionate! £2.50 for a can of coke (by far the most expensive can I have ever bought anywhere). £6.95 just for a fried egg sandwich. This is Yorkshire not central London! How much does a single egg cost.... say 30p and the bread..... say £50p, max that's 80p. £6.95!!!!!! Absolutely shocking. The owner must be off his rocker if he thinks these are acceptable prices. Disappointed and will not be returning. Could buy a months supply of eggs for the same price! On the positive the lady's behind the counter are nice and friendly and offer a good service. GREED

Fantastic food and views, we came fairly early and the staff were still prepping all of the delicious food but that didn’t stop them from putting customers first! However I can’t say the same for an older woman that works there! She was very abrupt, pushy and rude to us and a few more people after us that she had served! The manner and tone of her voice was not only intimidating but unprofessional! I think she needs some manners and respect for customers as it will most likely scare them away from this beautiful cafe. Other than that the rest of the staff were so lovely and nothing was too much for them! Can’t wait to come back.

Visible dirt under the nails of the boy that served us. High chair for children was filthy so we asked him to clean it, he got a dirty cloth from the kitchen and gave it a quick dab which did absolutely nothing. Lost my appetite won't be going back. You would think with all that's going on that little cafes like this are deep cleaning, and doing everything they can to keep customers coming back. Food OK but cutlery wasn't clean not a nice experience for children.

The food was absolutely delicious cooked perfectly and the service was fantastic (only 2 staff members on today and it was fairly busy! I was impressed) the lovely blonde lady made conversation and spoke to us like we were friends and I saw a young lady cooking who when I looked at smiled instantly even though she was very busy cooking lots! Now that is a service with a smile 😊 very lovely place to go and feel welcomed and of course I can’t forget the amazing views!

I have visited Brooklands for the last four Tuesdays with my 94 year old Mum, the food every time we visit has been outstanding, we have tried the breakfast to the fish and chips and the cakes, every meal was wonderful. The staff are also first class and make sure Mum is looked after and talk with her as though she was a friend. Finally, the view is terrific and watching the swans and ducks is an added bonus whilst enjoying the superb food.

Myself and my partner visited Brooklands to buy some new plants , we decided to have lunch , the view from our terrace table of the swans on the pond so near to us, plus the view out over the beautiful countryside were fabulous and very relaxing. The service and food both exceptional , friendly staff good size portions ( I didn’t cook tea that day lol ) and a very good price . We bought our plants from an extremely good choice . We chatted to the owner who gave us advise about plant care and found out that they have fresh fish delivered for lunches too .. my partner is very exited about going back for that lol . All in all considering how difficult things have been for us all during this past year I recommend a visit to Brooklands ,pop in for lunch or a coffee if you’re visiting Holmfirth ,relax , have a look round and a chat , take in the views , we all deserve time out

I stumbled across this lovely little coffee shop/cafe when I was out walking one day. And what a hidden gem it is. staff were sooo polite and cheerful, recently read over reviews and I don't understand how the two girls behind the counter were being too giggly? I think it's lovely to go in to places where the staff are happy it gives such a good atmosphere. The prices are reasonable you get what you pay for, saw the other review about the toasty they looked to be nothing wrong with it not sure how you can make a meal so simple in to something fancy? Anyway I enjoyed everything I had my partner had a toasty and she loved it, it came with a gorgeous fresh side salad with a delicious dressing, I had a homemade pie which I enjoyed too with the best homemade chips I've ever had. I saw that they had a specials board and a pensioners specials board too I asked about children's meals and they gave me a list of things they do for kids too. There really is something for everyone and to top it off the view is something else, it's worth going just for the view. I recommend a visit to see wallabies and black swans in which they have too! It's such a nice place to visit! Keep doing what you're doing Brooklands.

Pie washed down with a good pot if tea. I had the coffee and walnut cake " loaded with walnuts", my guests had the trifle, one of them said it was very refreshing and exactly how a trifle should be, fruit and cake in jelly topped with custard and cream. Although it was a hot day we sat inside the cafe a light airy room. Being locals and used to dining in the many excellent restaurants, cafés, and farm shop cafés in the area, we thought this one would be of the same quality but, unfortunately, it was not. On arrival we were very impressed, a nice modern café building overlooking ponds with both black and white swans with their new born cygnets, other wild fowl, and magnificent views across the valley. Firstly we opted for lunch to be followed for a tour of the nursery to buy some plants. We chose the locally produced meat and potato pie with mushy peas and chips, thinking I would not have to cook a meal at home in the evening. When it came I thought, oh well I can see my husband will want a meal after all. The wedge of pie was about 1½ inches wide at the crust and the whole thing about 3½ inches long with more potato than meat. The chips were - well, some were soggy and can only presume that they were warmed up left-overs and the others fresh but not cooked long enough as they were still raw inside, no mushy peas but canned peas, bland and tasteless. No puddings on the menu but assorted cakes hot or cold with either cream or custard. Some friends ordered hot with custard, but they all came cold. The cakes were stodgy only deserving to be served hot with custard. To conclude, the restaurant staff was wonderful, cheerful and obliging, shame about the food.In the Nursery, the plants were very reasonably priced but, apart from the man who was collecting the money, there was no one around to ask for advice or recommendations. There are many more nurseries with excellent cafés in the area so I won’t be going here again.

Overall the food was good, a little slow, but when sat in lovely surroundings admiring the view I'd rather wait a little longer for good home cooked food. However, I got a shock when my plate arrived. After asking if they had soya milk and going for herbal tea when they said no I ordered corned beef hash, thinking I was getting nothing but corned beef and veg, which would be the easiest option on my restricted diet, but it came with a n ash layer full of butter and milk blathered in melted cheese. Having grown up within 5 miles of the area and spent over 50 years eating corned beef hash, I have never seen it with mash, I don't eat potatoes very often and was looking forward to chunky chopped ones along with plenty veg all mixed together together. Having got over my initial shock that I wasn't warned it contained dairy, having already asked when ordering, I ate it, knowing I would pay the price over the next couple of days, but despite being full I f thing's I'm supposed to avoid and very little of what I was looking forward to, only carrots and brocoli served alongside it (cooked to perfection however, along with a jug of thick gravy that I knew not touch) I did actually enjoy it, perhaps because, it was food I no longer eat, but have now learned that even if something on the menu appears to be wheat and dairy free, to still ask what it contains, just in case as I'm still paying the consequences.Beautiful setting overlooking the duck pond and surrounding countryside, my grandkids will love it. I will return, but wiser next time.

Ploughmans lunch consisted of a pork pie, a dish of sandwich cheese, dish of Branston sandwich pickle,4pickled onions ,4slices of Apple very fatty and grisly ham and a half a tea cake £7.95 for the pleasure looks like it was just thrown on the plate. No thank you will not be coming again

I've been trying out a few cafes in the New Inn / Howarth area recently, and this is my latest find-and it's a little delight. Brooklands is a small garden centre which sits at the top of a hill and it has the most beautiful outlooks. In addition, the owners have created a small animal and bird area, which is wonderful for both adults and children to view.. At my time of visiting, there were 2 lambs, some white and black swans and their adorable chicks and a multitude of ducks and feathery trousered hens! The small café has seating inside and out, with a full length glass window to make the most of the views. The menu is fairly basic but prices are reasonable, the staff are pleasant, and the coffees were piping hot. I was sorely tempted by the home made cakes, but resisted, but the child at a neighbouring table had a superb looking bacon sandwich, which he heartily enjoyed. Here is a link to the current menu.http://www.brooklandsnurseries.co.uk/coffee-shop/As a bonus, the nursery is dog friendly, and cards are accepted for payment. This venue is only a stones throw away from Holmfirth, and if you've ever seen Last of the Summer Wine, you will know how beautiful the scenery is.

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.

We had a lovely evening here. Upon arrival the pub was clean and welcoming. Myself, my mother and my daughter came and the staff were so lovely and assertive. The food was really nice, we came in here as we were visiting the area and we would definitely come again.

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!
