Popped in on a trip out great pub good choice of drinks food was great and fresh cooked and hot and plentiful bar man was attentive and great service thanks

Just called in outside board says fish Friday with a drink. Ordered fish Friday meal twice with pint of beer and lemonade with lime. Outside board says £12- 50 with a drink. I was charged £31. The pint I ordered was not in the deal also the lime again was not in the deal. So I was charged £12 - 75 twice for fish and chips £4- 75 for a pint and 95p for a dash of lime. On leaving the pub after complaining the fish and chip offer sign had gone.

Lovely little pub with a fun pub quiz on a Wednesday night. Had drinks and enjoyed the traditional vibe of the place. Dart board and pool table too!

Clean, excellent wine and lovely glasses. We called here for a glass of wine and I was amazed at the quality of wine and glass. It may seem strange to comment of the glass quality, but, as a lover of wine, for me it’s part of the experience. The menu seems varied and I will return to try, but, in the meantime I would highly recommend for those who enjoy a lovely drink, well priced with the option of nibbles through to full meal.

Having eaten here three times over the past years it was disappointing to find their epic, home made food replaced by standard pub-chain fayre. Pies were the ‘out of a tin’ variety and the service wasn’t attentive (nobody asked if the food was ok, to which I’d have said the burger stack was missing it’s promised hash brown - not world ending, but indicative of the shabby service)

Only had a quick drink, but it looks like a nice pub. Friendly staff. Beer garden. Pool table.

Shocking facilities Toilets are disgusting, staff don’t care to clean, nothing stock up. Food ok? Staff rude. No care given. Not sure how the pubs still safe to serve people when the toilets are this bad. Can’t imagine the kitchen

Well I wasn't expecting much because the car park was nearly empty and when we walked in, dining tables on the left hand side had been replaced with a pool table ! The staff were friendly and very helpful and the Sunday dinner was near perfect. I will be coming back.

Cannot fault it. They're doing cheap and cheerful pub food, but it's actually enjoyable. The actual rare example of a pub getting this kind of food right. It's not 'home cooked' or anything, but it's nice. Plus, they have a nice swing/play area/garden for children. Can't fault it for the money. Plus the staff and owners are nice. If I lived nearer, I'd be in there all the time.

Had a good afternoon here with the family. There are plenty of activities outside for the kids. The food was okay, not great but not bad. We would go here again.

My daughter and grandchildren came to visit, don't come often as they live in Rotherham, pictures looked brilliant for grandchildren, can't fault the food or service but nothing apart from 1 swing, one of the tables had a bag of dog poo left on it, trying to keep a 2 year old off was difficult. Very disappointed.

We went there for Sunday lunch on 2nd of June. It was a lovely day. Had lunch in the beer garden. The food was average and pricey. The service was really poor and we had to collect our food from the bar, they would not serve the food in beer garden, not sure why. There was hardly anyone in the place. I would nor be going back and would not recommend the place either. It used to a really popular place before they changed the place, the food and the new prices. I blame the new management.

Quite a grubby pub the staff were nice polite and professional but the food was second rate frozen fare, it was OK but not recomend able to be honest I wouldn't have another visit

Our first Sunday Lunch in forever did not disappoint! Both the beef and chicken options were generously portioned and served on warmed plates with a large dish of seasonal vegetables to share and a decent jug of tasty gravy on the side. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend it to anyone who loves a proper Yorkshire Pudding.

Only called in for a quick drink on the way to a friends dinner do. Warm greating was received on the early Saturday evening, though the place wasn't busy. Looked promising as there was a live band later on.

Just called in for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent, best pub Sunday dinner I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend.

First time doing the quiz night. We really enjoyed it. Good atmosphere, we will definitely go back for another go and try a bit harder next time.

Popped in passing by and we had Scampi and Steak and Ale pie, which came with loads of peas and green beans and huge jug of gravy, both meals piping hot and fantastic food, will be returning soon

Sunday dinner here is absolutely banging. We’ve been a few times and it’s always been amazing and I have high standards 😂. Definitely worth a visit. They do a large version too, it was massive. Two huge Yorkies, chicken and beef (quality thick slices), roasties, creamy mash, cabbage, carrots, green beans and loads of tasty gravy. All tastes proper home made. Better than most chain pubs for sure 👌

Great food cooked fresh and to perfection.very clean place fast service. Only problem was the kids meal came last but it was straight after the adults but kids can't wait.still be going again though

Food was OK once it eventually arrived - took almost an hour to arrive.

No atmosphere. Food appears to be ping and ding ! But value for money and served hot. Concerned that after the chef left at 8.40 the young lady who covered the bar and serving, was left on her own.

Lovely pub with an extremely helpful girl serving bar and food.all served up with a smile.perhaps could have been more atmospheric but it was a cold and wet Monday night. Looking forward to going again.

We went here for a birthday celebration and can't recommend it highly enough. The couple running it now were so nice and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and we all were made to feel welcome and not rushed, even though we had the table for a fair few hours! The food was fab, and my grandad was chuffed with his Theakstons cask ale! And we could choose our own music on the system they have there! We'll be back!

In 40 years of living in Wakefield I have never been in this PUB !! I was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing , super hot ! The atmosphere was welcoming and warm . The staff were super friendly . We arrived early , this wasn’t a problem, they sat us down straight away. We will definitely be returning for another visit . I would recommend this to anyone.

Really welcoming dog friendly pub. Run by a dedicated couple who take time to chat and make you feel welcome. Comfortable and spacious and with good food and beer at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend.

Just been here for lunch, used to be one of our favourites years ago but definitely gone down hill, to be honest the pie and gravy were very nice but why would you let yourself down by serving frozen chips and frozen veg? The sign outside says home made food? Wouldnt be suprised if the pies although very nice were bought in? Unfortunately wont be returning there are much nicer places to eat that serve home made chips n veg for not much more.

Had a lovely meal out with friends. Great food and a great selection of drinks. The Pinot blush wine that we had was absolutely lovely! We had a selection of small plates which were all delicious, my favourite was the salt and pepper squid. They were all beautifully presented too. My lasagne was perfect but the highlight of the meal was the chocolate brownie for pudding! Highly recommend. The staff were all helpful and the pub was lovely and clean. Definitely a huge improvement since the new management have taken over.

So disappointing, not told on arrival you now order at the bar since new management. Used to have order taken at the table, so we waited and waited until we asked what to do. Not the best range of soft drinks. The potato both mash and roast dreadful, the roast was definitely not home cooked, mash tasteless. Some veg seemed frozen not fresh, the Yorkshire pudding so so hard. Beef was uniformly sliced like packet sandwich beef but warmed and dry. Apparently the chicken was nicer. Thank goodness the gravy was ok.

Went for a late lunch and food was mediocre and only just warm, not as good as it use to be.

Good meal, helpful staff, good value. Bar nearly empty, but notice said it had changed hands, possibly not too many have tried it for lunch yet.

Good selection of food at reasonable prices. The range of starters was particularly interesting. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Went here with the kids for some tea and to take advantage of the kids eat free offer. Food was really good! Younger one had the chicken chunks which were actual battered chicken breast pieces rather than the usual reformed nuggets type things you get. I had the fish and chips which was also really nice. Staff were great. Had a nice chat with the owner, they couldn't do more for us and was great with my youngest! Play area was nice too. And the basketball net kept my teenager happy! Will be back soon.

We booked online through FB flr Sunday lunch. We both opted for beef sunday roast dinner and chicken nuggets with chips for the little one. The beef dinner was amazing, really nice tender beef and a decent portion size. We also had a pud the biscoff cheesecake was amazing. Well done keep it up!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to The British Oak for hosting my daughters funeral tea on Wednesday. The staff were warm and welcoming from arranging it to the day and nothing was too much trouble. The food was a fantastic price and plentiful with many people going up for more than one plate. We received loads of compliments which we would like to pass on to them. Thank you for making this a stress free experience and hopefully we will get down for one of your meals. If the meals are anything like the buffet then we are in for a treat. There is plenty of room to move around, it is clean and well maintained. Also wheelchair friendly.

Avoid at all costs - went here with family from the area. Had been here before but a long time ago. We were just looking for a traditional pub with some decent food & no fuss. First problem was getting 6 people sat together which took an eternity to sort - service was then really slow, to the point where we were ready to leave. The food wasn’t great but it was edible… or so we thought. 2 of the party (both had same meal) ended up sick later. Can’t say definitely it was from the pub but unlikely to have come from anywhere else. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

We called in for a late Sunday tea. Will no doubt have been a very busy day as the weather had been great. All areas were well cleared and ready to choose a table, with a warm greeting from the staff. Food was great, I had the buttermilk chicken burger and my other half had one of the pizzas. As a pair of absolute starvers usually, I am pleased to confirm that the portions were ample and both of us suitably stuffed. Defo will be back and hopefully to take advantage of some good weather in the beer garden.

Last visited about 3 year,s ago and food and service absolute rubbish,Special offer on today,2 main,s for £17, I had Gammon etc and Wife had the Steak Pie with trimmIng,s,New people there now,been in pub for 9 week,s,met Michael,Landlord ? Very friendly and helpful. Meal,s piping hot,very tasty and plate overflowing,Highly recommend.

I have just spoken to a loverly lady on the phone. Just trying to find a friend who goes drinking out their,and told me to f..k off!!! And slammed the phone down.. wouldn’t say this is very customer service. Top marks for the abuse..

Easy access the the pub ,large car parking with disabled parking. Pub itself is nice internally and food is lovely and filling. Fish and chips is really nice 5☆

Booked by telephone at short notice on a Sunday after having visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The staff were very accommodating of our late booking. I am vegan and was very impressed with the vegan options on the menu which is one of the main reasons I decided to book. However, on arrival, a limited Sunday lunch menu was being served which I hadn't appreciated was the case. There were no vegan options on the Sunday menu but upon speaking to the staff, they were more than happy to let me order a vegan option from the regular menu. I had the Bombay Burger which was absolutely delicious and came with a generous serving of fries. The pub is dog friendly and my two dogs were spoiled with treats from staff throughout our visit. I would 100% visit again but would recommend booking in advance.

Four of us had a great meal last night at The British Oak. Two had fish and chips, one had burger and I had gammon. All meals very good. Service by the young lady who served us was excellent, friendly, polite, very welcoming. Will definitely be back.

Called this even, the pub was quite We were greeted by 2 lady’s, They seated us, and everything went right from here in!!! Young girl was Jess, the other girl was South African Made our night 👌👌🤣 The chef was also Fantastic, he made my curry how I wanted it 👏👏👏 Just as we were finishing off our meal, a lady came from the kitchen, well she looked at me, never smiled once! The 2 girls and the chef 👌👏👏🙏Thankyou x

Food quite good appalling for Sunday lunch you could only have one potato 🥔 my friends and I took our elderly parents and staff stated the smaller oap Sunday lunch couldn't have potato at all all 5 of us quite shocked I'll definitely never go again

Had early evening meal with three friends. Unfortunately the place was almost empty with no atmosphere at all. Food ok but not brilliant. Two meals were quite good and two poor think they had been kept warm under a light. Not cheap for pub food and choice limited.

Only had a few drinks there early afternoon and it was quiet and the staff were welcoming and pleasant. Tables were all set for eating and looked inviting. I would visit again and try the menu out.

Great food with great service would highly recommend

We called in for evening meal. Steak & drink was on offer so we both had the steak and a drink. I had a draught beer and my partner a j2o. The beer was warm! Easily at room temperature. The first disapointment. After the meal when we went to pay we were charged for the drinks. When we queried this we were told we had the wrong drinks only a limited choice was in the offer! At no point were we told what was on offer and nothing was on the menu. Poor service and misleading offer. The steaks were OK but they were served with frozen chips , frozen peas a couple of onion rings and a tomato. Very reminiscent of Weatherspoons but more expensive and the available drinks in the offer at Weatherspoons are clearly spelt out. Disapointing Overall a poor experience and we won't be eating there again.

not the freshest of half chicken and very dry. also very happy I had the rice and not the mash as you wouldhave need to smother that in gravey as it was very hard / dry aswell.

Fantastic place to enjoy some proper pub grub

Hard to get excited about a Sunday roast, until you visit the British Oak. Absolutely fabulous. Generous serving of meat. As I moved my veg more meat appeared. All cooked to perfection, but the real treat believe it or not was the grated red cabbage. It was like the food of the gods. Who'd have believed it. A dedicated carnivore raving about red cabbage. Gorgeousness on a plate.
