The staff were nice and lovely sitting out in the sun but the food was pretty bad.. the chips were decent but the sandwiches were absolutely awful, stale dry packet bread and the crab did not taste at all fresh, despite being by the sea I assume from a tin and rather tasteless. And serving it with roast beef crisps???! Really bizarre

Plus point: Iconic location. Minus point: Sadly far too many. On walking into the entrance/cafe we were shocked & appalled at the disgusting state of lack of cleanliness. If they’re unable to keep the first entrance clean I shudder to think how bad other areas must inevitably be. Surely this place needs a rapid inspection and probably shutting down by the Foods Standards Agency until they’ve done the very basics which are so obviously lacking.

Myself and my wife were feeling slightly hungry so decided to pop in and have a fish and chip lunch. When it arrived it was pretty poor. I ordered a small cod & chips and small it definitely was….and very greasy. I expected better quality at £14.25 per person. Wouldn’t waste my money here again.

Dungeness is a wonderful place to visit. We seen baby porpoise on our arrival. We loved it so much we came 2 weeks in a row for long weekends to stay in our campervan. You cannot stay overnight in campers which is a shame in some ways but you can rent a VERY expensive air B&B or two. Having said this the BRITANNIA INN Dungeness make up for all of this. A really lovely atmosphere, staff are lovely, attentive, beer was really nice, cold and crisp, and shockingly a reasonable price (wine, spirits etc not so reasonable, nor packets of crisps at nearly £2 for a standard size pack) but the food was literally amazing and well priced. The chap behind the bar was super friendly as was his mother. The younger staff don't smile or converse much at all but do a wonderful job of serving and getting the orders in and the Inn is VERY popular. Unsurprisingly. It's so nice. The place was filled to them brim with really friendly locals and friendly visitors. They welcome dogs have treats ready for them and all in all a TRULY WONDERFUL little gem. Views of both old and new lighthouses and the wee stream train. Will be visiting much more although perhaps not so much in the winter due to the openness the weather would be a killer.

The only places that get regularly mentioned in Dungeness are The Pilot and the End of the Line — this place needs more good publicity. Cheerful staff, readily answered questions about gluten free options and offered to grill a piece of fish. The menu is simple but all the dishes we had were well cooked and the batter on the fish some of the lightest, crispiest batter we had eaten in quite a long time. Good range of beers and the usual soft drinks. Pleasant inside, outside could do with some shade from the August sun. I will definitely return next time I’m in Dungeness.

Called in on a Friday lunch time, not busy and service good. Sat outside in the sun but noticed internally and externally it seemed a little run down. Pints on par with London prices which surprised us due to its location maybe but it needs some refurb works carried out and could be a very good business!

We think something has changed since we last ate there about 2 years ago. Previously the place was packed with an extensive menu, but there was plenty of seating inside and out and the menu has definitely changed. The menus are now on a laminated piece of paper. The building is looking quire tired and even the metal pub sign wasn't hanging. This could of course be down for repair and the ipkeep of an old building must be extensive and ongoing. The food we ordered was good. Some of the younger staff need a bit more training as one of them seems quite slow and seem unsure of what they are meant to be doing. We will still pop in when down that way but just aware it's not the same as it used to be.

Hadn’t been here in years so it was great to drive by and see it is still a thriving pub and restaurant. A lovely sunny afternoon spot for lunch and the car park was full with bikers and walkers on a pit stop - always a good sign. Lovely bright and airy room in the main bar with a great selection of drinks ace to see the Kent ales but also as the designated driver this place has a decent selection of non-alcoholic and ultra low alcohols stout, cider, lager and an IPA alongside the usual fare of soft drinks. My partner opted for the lunch time special cod and chips which arrived in no time at all. Cooked to perfection with a lovely light and crisp batter. I opted for their house burger…. Never seen anything like it, towering on a slate tile as it was brought over. Good quality burger, cooked perfectly and with a nice fresh salad, onion rings and a hash brown. It beat me…. I managed to cleave it in half and demolish that, but the second half got the better of me. Would definitely order it again, but skip having breakfast before hand 😊 Lovely staff on hand; swift to serve at the bar and made sure we had any sauces or condiments we needed. Thank you for a lovely, spur of the moment, lunch! I shall definitely be returning and bringing friends and family here.

Hadn’t been here for years; but looked to go out for lunch on Good Friday with extended family, so prebooked a couple of weeks in advance just in case it was busy. Confusion over booking upon arrival, but was resolved after a few minutes. Good selection of beers at bar, including local offerings which was great. Menu we looked at online on the website wasn’t what was on offer on the restaurant (more limited, and presented differently to the website). Food order placed at bar, and plenty of staff to assist with order. Food itself very good; fresh and piping hot, (small fish too large for the seniors but they definitely enjoyed it none the less). Worth a visit if you’re visiting the lighthouse, the miniature railway or the RNLI lifeboat station.

Visited Dungeness on 28/12, followed signs to pub, not expecting it to be open, but yes it was. We were only ones in there initially and there was a lovely log fire, which we sat next to. Asked if we could have food and was told, if we were happy to wait 30 mins, then yes, so we sat and had a lovely hot chocolate and chatted to very friendly barman. We ordered fish finger sandwich, which came with chips and salad, couldn’t fault it, the fish was battered and like a goujon, plenty of it in the sandwich. Clean toilets too. By the time we left, the place was filling up. Our experience was very good, our expectations to be truthful weren’t that high, but we were grateful that it was open at least, but overall nothing to complain about.

Avoid. Totally Underwhelming .Boring pub menu. I had Whitebait. I like a light dusting of flour or a light tempura batter. It was straight out the freezer pre breaded with a hard crust. Very unappealing. The calamari was also not freshly prepared. My son had haddock and chips. Chips were soft and floury and the fish in batter was oily and tasteless. Terrible food.

I used to love coming here but it’s become too overpriced. I had a basic fish and chips and it was £19.50 - ridiculous on the sea front. They said they ran out of the smaller sized fish. My daughter previously had a kids pizza and it was great but this time it had shrunk to the size of a digestive biscuit. They are in an amazing spot and I’m sure can charge these prices but I really question should they?! There is lots of competition nearby and next time I’ll look there sadly.

Went for Sunday lunch. Rang and booked a table. Staff friendly and helpful. Dog friendly so could sit inside in the cool. Menu not too large, lots of choice for vegetarians, and salad options. Food was good quality, freshly cooked, and good portions. The chap...

Stopped off for lunch, plenty of seats in and out, very limited menu with fish and chips at £12.50 seems most popular. Downside is the restaurant gets busy with many dogs, yes tourists out walking with their pets seem to make a bee line here,...

Stopped off here on a bike ride, to get food and drinks. The only available food is either fish and chips, pizza and chips, or burger and chips. Nothing in the healthy range. The service is appalling, and no care in the world for social...

Went there today for lunch. We sat outside, as we had planned. It was a bit breezy, but not cold, and at least it meant we didn't have to worry about face masks. Service was prompt, food and drinks brought out to the table by...

I cannot comment on the food as we only had a drink. That said, the staff were very friendly and the service was quick and efficient. There is ample parking and plenty of outside tables, with good views of the surroundings. Covid regulations are observed...

Stick to fish and chips.u husband had the burger, and although it came with all the trimmings, the meat burger was way below standard.

Food was bland and disappointing, though it looks like they are trying to make up for it with quantity. Seems the chef doesn't want to be there. If you order sausage roll with fries, it will cost you £9. If you order it separately, it will be £7. That is, unless they give part of your order to someone else and then tell you they don't have any more, even though you already paid and been waiting for 10 minutes for the food. Just go anywhere else and you'll have better rating experience

We tried to catch afternoon tea, but were appalled by the downmarket clientele. We immediately left. Avoid at all cost.

We had booked a room in the adjoining B&B (highly recommended) and also reserved a table at the Famous Ship Inn. Our drive from our home Devon took us over 7 hours (thank you M25 and M20) so we were only just in time for our reservation. The inn itself is very old but we were shown to a table in a modern conservatory on the south side. The food and service were impeccable and the place was doing a great trade, which created a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. This was an excellent dining experience.

We popped in for lunch. We were not staying at the "hotel" so cannot comment on the rooms. The food is excellent, if a little overpriced. As are the drinks. An example is a pint of lager shandy was priced at £6.35 and noted as a pint of Birra Moretti on the bill. I raised this but they said they "could not change it". And the larger used was not Birra Moretti! That is disappointing and, for me, that's a deal breaker.
