Went to my friends 60th birthday get together on the 20th august 2022 at this so called welcoming public house. there was at least 20+ people in our group so spent a lot of money there, can i just say i have never been to a most unwelcoming pub in all my life, the landlord and i presume his wife was the most ignorant and rude people i have ever been served by. the land lady did not crack a smile all night except when she was talking to her regular customers, i presume was amos brearly,mr wilks and seph armstrong from emmerdale.im sorry we invaded your pub and ruined your boring life. it was the first and last time we will visit. so sorry some people like to have fun.as soon as we finished our drinks each time she whipped the glasses away as a hurry up and go home, well this comes from all our party of people. you got no fear of us returning and i do believe theres a course on customer skills maybe book one.everyone of our party commented on how rude you were.and knowing how hard things are now would have thought you would be pleased to have the custom but clearly not.will be spending our money in a place where your made to feel welcome .

My word, what a pub, more like a DUB (W). The ultras are some of the best ive ever seen especially Big Mate. The Stella's are magical and Id recommend popping down for a chinwag with the lads at any point. ALSO, you cannot forget the fish finger baguette - it was astonishing. If youre looking for a new set of ultras, the Brit is where its at. Love, peace and pints x.

Popped in for a solo beer and supper, ad was made to feel most welcome. superb pints Spitfire bitter (made me look up all the Shepherd Neame politically-incorrect Spitfire ad's), and a very ample portion of ham eggs & chips. Pleased to see a pub I remember as a youngster looking so good with new owners, and wish them best of luck. Give it a try!

What a rare thing. A landlord and landlady that have time for their customers. Haven't felt that welcome in a pub for years. The quiz night was just how you imagine a pub should be - food, drink, friendly atmosphere, a real sense of local community. Thoroughly recommended.

Was staying at Holiday Inn Express nearby and popped down to the Britannia Inn which was only 3 mins away (by car). The staff were very helpful and friendly, and despite not booking managed to fit 4 of us in. The food was straight forward, no nonsense pub food, made locally by the pub. I had the steak and ale pie which was probably the best I've had in many years. Also was inexpensive costing £54 for four people (4 pints of Thatchers, four mains, two deserts and two coffees). Very enjoyable!

I called in here on a wet and windy Friday evening in June. The bar is very small and was very quiet during my visit. The bar maid was unsure at first if food was still available. It was and I ordered the pie of the day which turned out to be my usual choice anyway! Steak and ale! It took some time to arrive but I accepted that it was being cooked fresh. It was really good. Good portion of chips, loads of peas and a very meaty pie served in an individual traditional pie dish. The server who I assumed was the cook, seemed genuinely pleased that I enjoyed her cooking and persuaded me to try a dessert. I chose the chocolate fudge cake with cream that was way too nice!!! Really great food. Loved the spitfire larger too which I assumed was a local brand. Great visit even though it was very quiet.

We stopped in the nearby Holiday inn and wanted a decent size meal as we had been travelling all day. My two kids are quite fussy but there was something on the menu for them and something healthy but of a decent size for us. Lovely home cooked food and friendly service at a reasonable price. If we stay in the area again we will definitely come back.

Enjoyed a really delicious English pub lunch here meeting friends who had travelled over on the Eurotunnel from France while we drove down from London. Plenty of parking in a nice countryfied environment just 7 minutes drive from the tunnel and 5 minutes drive out of Hythe. Food was great, beers went down well and the welcoming fire was lit to keep us warm. Landlord put himself out to welcome us even though we arrived before opening time.

My Wife and I were stopping overnight in Folkestone before catching an early Chunnel crossing. We’d lived in Kent 21 years previous and I really fancied a proper pint of Shepherd Neame Spitfire, other beers are available but this one is very good😊 We did the usual and looked on Trip advisor and there are lots of three lettuce leaf and a smattering of gorilla glue on the side type of places if that’s your thing, no, I wanted pub grub. It came as a surprise that literally 0.6 of a mile ( I don’t do kilometres, google it or whatever is used for working such nonsense out)there was an oasis of pub normality, the Britannia, we were suited and booted in the blink of an eye and off down the road. It’s in a great location, there’s a car park and on street parking too. As we entered into the bar there was a crowd of people in there laughing and having a good time and then the big red sign hit me like a failed cricket ball catch, “ look, Hooligans lager”, I couldn’t believe it, after telling the northerners about this miracle elixir, anti ageing liquid, there it was, proud as punch. This brought on a rare moment of contemplation, Hooligans or a couple of Shepherd Neames best. I’m sorry to say I went for the Spitfire, this pub knows how to keep its beers and how to serve them, fanbloodytastic 🍺🍺 We asked to see the menu and as expected there was a great choice of proper pub grub, my wife had the Steak and Kidney pie, it was great, no searching around in a tasteless liquid for the filling, oh no, this was brimming with meat, I’m not sure how many cows went into it, but my Wife thanks you for your sacrifice. I opted for the Britannia burger, fantastic. Nice thick burger, onion rings, cheese and barbecue sauce, I may have missed some ingredients, but it was great. Mine came with a mountain of chips and a nice salad selection so if I wanted to I could pretend I was being health conscious 😊, my wife’s dinner came with a mountain of chips too, and a very generous portion of garden peas that were very tasty too. After my very tasty mains, I decided to go all out and order a pudding,I chose the syrup sponge and of course, custard, loved it. Served piping hot, as in global thermo nuclear hot syrup(as it should be), let’s face it, we’ve all scooped a spoon of syrup/sticky toffee/jam up to our lips and then had the mental discussion as to how painful it was going to be😂, now I know the adults amongst you would be saying,”blow on it, leave it for a few minutes, why didn’t you have ice cream?” But, where’s the fun in that? Did I mention the beer?🍺😊. The publican was a very sociable host and his staff are excellent. Have a look at the menu, give it a go,we loved it. Check the food serving times and if you want fish and chips we were asked to pre order it, ie it wasn’t available at the time of our visit The Britannia 26 Horn Street, Hythe, Kent CT21 5SR

My wife and I called in just after 6pm on a Thursday evening. Despite it being early evening the Inn was fairly crowded with locals enjoying their pints - a good sign! Enquired about food service and was politely told that it would be available from 7pm. So, whilst waiting, we enjoyed excellent ale, wrote a few postcards and were given menus so that our orders could be placed as soon as the chef started at 7pm. My wife had the vegetarian chilli with rice and I had the meat pie. Both meals were absolutely delicious. The home made pie was packed with steak, rich gravy and not a single morsel of fat or gristle. The pastry on the pie was a delight. Unlike some of the big pub chains, a relaxed attitude to portion control is evident here. We then tried the home made puddings. Chocolate pudding for me and pear and raspberry crumble for my wife - both puddings came with lots of custard and were delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is very friendly and efficient.

Mu husband and I were getting married in the nearby area and wanted to find a pub for a big group of us (21) to have dinner in the night before. Thanks to trip advisor I found this pub and so contacted Sarah & Nigel to book a few tables - not realising that it was only a small family run pub! Nevertheless, they were extremely accommodating and allowed us to book the entire restaurant section. The food was delicious, everyone devoured their meals, and with drinks included the final bill was more than reasonable. Not only that, but Sarah & Nigel themselves kept checking in on us throughout the night, making sure that everything was ok. It was the perfect way for us to spend our final night before the big day!I would highly recommend this pub to anyone and will most certainly be coming back again when in the area.Thank you so much Sarah & Nigel - you were absolute stars :)

My wife and I had a few days in Hythe and we came across this friendly local pub. We went on Wednesday night to enjoy the quiz and a cheap £6 evening meal. We were warmly welcomed by the land lord (Nigel) and shown to our table for the quiz. I had telephoned earlier to find out the details for the evening. The pub was a really nice local, of the like that seems to be rapidly disappearing from England!Prices for drinks were reasonable and the whole atmosphere was very good. Although it was the first time that we had visited the pub, we were made to feel 'happy to be there'.The toilets were spotlessly clean and the choice of beers , lagers and spirits were of sufficient range to satisfy the most discerning imbiber. My major complaint was that the team which I was in came last in the quiz!!!!!You just wait till I return >>>>>>>>>>>> I will be KING of the QUIZ. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.

The Britannia is a lovely, quaint, small, family run pub, off the beaten track, but yet within minutes of the M20 motorway. Good range of wines and beers to accompany lunch and dinner, or just to pop in for a drink and catch your breath. Lotterywinner is much more accurate (delicious puds!) and if the car park does get full, park on the road out the front, easy!

Went for Sunday lunch today. We've always passed but never stopped. Very impressed with their Sunday roast dinner. £8.95 for one course (which was so huge was all we could manage) although the starters and pudding menu look lovely.Huge portions, lovely roast tatties and yorkshires. Lots of lean meat. Parking is a bit limited and so is the amount of seating so book first to be sure of a table.

I have to say since having my baby, I’ve been here twice, and it’s the most unwelcoming place I’ve felt being a Mum. The first experience, I had to change my baby on the floor of the toilets as there are no baby changing facilities available. (A mat you can place on the floor is kindly leant against the wall of the ladies toilets. That’s the extent of it). When booking with a high chair, there is no mention that there is no designated baby changing facilities. The second time I came I just didn’t bother trying, as I was advised that a table can be moved into the ladies loo if I don’t want to change her on the floor. We were kindly given a high chair as requested. However the type of high chair provided, my daughter is just ever so slightly still too small for (she is 13 months-the straps just don’t hold her in enough, not a fault of the pub, just a generic high chair that we aren’t quite ready for, in some places we’ve been the straps have been secure enough but sadly this one was not). So I decided to get my pushchair in and use that for her to sit and eat in so she’s safely secure. When it came to the attention of the staff that I was going to get the push chair, I have to say I have never been made to feel more of an inconvenience than I was today. Since having my child. I was met with comments “you’re going to get your push chair!?” Like it was a travesty. And then met with an enormous amount of comments, looks and whispers and fussing around me, about how this was going to take up too much room, we’d inconvenience other guests (may I add no one came to sit at the table we were next to at the time for the entirety of our stay!?), there was ample room for someone to sit and not be anywhere near the pram. But instead we had to take all our things and move…right in the doorway!? Where the pram was then right in the way of everyone coming in and out or passing to the main restaurant. I have never been treated so poorly in any establishment since becoming a Mum. It’s played on my mind all day and quite frankly I feel humiliated. I wish I’d known this before coming and I won’t be going again, and I want to as a Mum, let other Mums know. And give the restaurant a chance to accept my feedback and maybe make small changes to be more welcoming to mums with small children. There was another family with a baby in a pram across the way, I don’t think they received the same treatment, but I would stress this is not a baby friendly restaurant at all at the moment. My advice as a mother, is if someone calls to advise of a baby on the booking, advice them that there are no baby facilities, even if you have plans to add it in, it’s not there now and changing a baby on the floor is not acceptable or sanitary, bringing in a table without relevant safety features is equally not acceptable. In addition, be aware that some people may be bringing a pram as well as the need for a high chair. Every mother has a different scenario they bring when going out with their children.
