Great atmosphere, friendly place.

A proper, old-fashioned pub with immaculately kept ales and friendly staff and locals. The giant Spider-Man on the wall is a bit out of keeping with the decor, but certainly creates a distinctive look! There are several screens dotted around the pub for sporting events. Please note that there is no food available, except for traditional bar snacks. But you don’t go to The Bricklayers to eat; you go to have good beer and conversation.

Still the best pint of real ale in Beckenham High Street. Not just the quality, but the variety.

Proper pub with great atmosphere.

Often pop in here for one when changing buses but without fail always a hello and goodbye welcome greeting and attentive bar staff. I have rarely had other than an excellent cask ale to boot. A local pub in a sea of other more anonymous venues. Watch out for the massive Spiderman climbing one wall.

Great traditional pub, lovely people, staff are brilliant, live music most weekends, Ukelele nights each Tuesday bring your uke and join in 😁

Wow, visited this pub this morning and was immediately welcomed by a warm and friendly welcome. But all changed in the afternoon by a barmaid that clearly did not want to be there arrived for her shift . I had visited this pub before and encounter the same barmaid and we both came to the same conclusion that it was all to much for her. For her regulars they were treated with a bit more respect but for us , we were treated like something she walked in. Very upsetting as this is a lovely pub.i pointed out to her that she had an attitude problem. She will bring this pub down and we will not be returning again.

When looking for a pub, I look for atmosphere and comfort. Not only does this pub tick those boxes, it's a place where you can truly feel at home. From the fireplace to the music, this pub is truley one in it's own. No other pub in Beckenham, even in the local area, can match this venue's soul. A place I am glad to call my local.

If I could give a 0 star review I would. The woman at the bar was extremely rude and did not serve me because I had a foreign ID. She asked for my ID (i’m 20 so I wasn’t surprised at all) she then declared that I needed UK identification bc that’s what the Bromley council requests and she does not was to loose her license and my ID doesn’t say my date of birth in English. It does. It is an EU Identity Card… accepted EVERYWHERE… I can even cross borders with it but apparently not enter a pub in London. She seemed like she wanted an argument, exclaiming that I needed a drivers license, I said I haven’t got one but this is a proficient legal document to prove my age. She told me I shouldn’t argue back. We left instantly as I was not bothered with such “foreigner” nonsense. I’ve spent most my life in this country. I’m just concerned for anyone who enters the pub with foreign documents who doesn’t look and sound “English”.

The worst food I've ever had advertised as Indian food n I bet not 1 of the chefs were from India absolutely shocking food DO NOT GO HERE

Great friendly pub. Ales are excellent. Shame no food but staff were happy for us to get fish and chips and eat it at the outside tables with our beer. We were lucky enough to be there on Tuesday night and there was good live music.

Called in after watching Wednesday win at Wembley and get promoted.... Quite a number of the drinkers congratulated us with enthusiasm and a smile... Really friendly bar staff... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Only dropped in for a real ale. Looked a nice pub, friendly staff, great selection of real ales plus all the usual tap beers.

Nice little pub, cosy with a good choice of beers and ales. Unsure about the provision of food, but there's a good selection of pub nibbles - crisps, nuts, pork scratchings, scampi flavour fried crunchy things and other savoury snacks. Large number of eateries nearby as well as lots of fast food takeaways. Live music is offered once or twice a week on Friday and/or Saturday. Large outdoor covered seating areas outside for those who embrace the outdoors or smoke or both. Easy to locate, public transport readily available nearby, but no parking.

I have been here a couple of times / always a friendly welcome - and camra card check . Good selection of cask ales - football / rugby on large screens . On Saturday night a fish seller came round / havent seen that for years!.

Proper old school pub that specialises in real ale and doesn’t do food. A rare find these days. Nice outdoor covered area with heaters; sport is shown on the TVs but not intrusively. The inside has a nice quiet atmosphere and looks to be proper local regulars. Nice staff; would definitely recommend for beers but food wise its just crisps and nuts so make sure you plan for food elsewhere.

What a wonderful, quirky little pub. Lovely cheerful barmaid providing great service. An outdoor area runs along the length of the pub with direct access to and from the High Street with a mural featuring David Bowie at the other end. The Guinness was excellent as was the Tribute.

Oh my gawdddd. What a night. I haven’t had service like this in the 43 years of life. Don’t know the bar maids name, but she had lovely piggy tails. She was so friendly and very accommodating, as I have a speech impediment and she knew exactly what I wanted. She was kind, approachable, funny and very very helpful. A true asset in every sense. Thankyou so so much, brilliant!!!!

Met up with somecold friends here and hadn't been there for ages. Its so lovely. Cosy and friendly and a joy to see our lovely Annie. In fact all the bar staff were brilliant. Highly recommend

3 stars because it's a good pub with good atmosphere, but the NO CASH is a disgrace just buying into the gloabalist wet dream you lost a customer

Busy as local the Nov. 5th firework show had finished a little bit earlier. The Real Ale was in decent enough condition and that's what what mattered to me and those I was what.

Rude and miserable staff! Too many other establishments out there that are welcoming, friendly and polite - but this is not one of them!!!

Called in with a group of friends. Met by a particularly rude and unfriendly member of staff. (Female) Atmosphere dreadful… felt like we’d walked into a deep freeze. Left before ordering drinks… plenty of other lovely places for a drink on Beckenham high street.

It's been a while since I've been here, but the bar staff remain fantastic. It's great that more has been made of the outside space too. Will definitely be back.

No mask, No entry! Whether you're exempt or not! Didn't realise government enforcers worked behind the bar at the bricklayers! Landlady total jobs worth, and about as much common sense as a bowl of mash potato!

Unacceptable discrimination from bar staff. I was denied access for not wearing a face covering, despite telling the staff I'm exempt for medical reason and showing them my exemption badge. I was told this was company policy and could not come in. All I can say is that I'm glad I was made aware of such malpractice, unfair treatment, and complete disregard for disability and discrimination laws before I got to spend a single penny at said company. Needless to say I will not return.

Went for birthday. Used to visit regularly. Instead of welcoming back, as per earlier reviews, staff were horrible. They were rude, unhelpful, tried to sit us under low hanging pots below the top of our heads, then under leaking guttering and drainpipe. The maintenance has always been poor but running water over your seats and table???? How can the staff not know that's clearly unacceptable. Walked out and went to another pub. So glad we did. They couldn't have done more for us. No customer loyalty, whatsoever. I will never set foot in there again.

Excellent Covid-19 procedures in place including a one way system. Plenty of tables up the side, partially covered and some with heaters under the tables. The service is off course table service due to current restrictions. Service was quick and friendly and the beer, a pint of proper job ipa was in great nick

We did not book as we could not find an option on the pub's website. When we arrived, there were a number of free tables and one of the staff informed us in a rather surly manner to sit at the front as the tables at the side were all booked. We accepted this with good grace so that we could spend an evening there. However, after 15 minutes we appeared to have been ignored and no one came to take an order. We therefore decided to leave. I have been a great supporter of getting hospitality back up and running post lockdown to save businesses and jobs. It therefore saddens me to have received such poor service. There is a limit to the extent that customers will accept Covid as an excuse for poor service. Eventually they will, especially where pubs are concerned decide that buying drinks in the supermarket and drinking at home is easier and cheaper.

First visit for many years, very good considering the Covid situation.
