Great coffee and absolutely delicious baked goods! We had the frangipan and the apple bundit cake and would recommend both!

Ordered long black, oat flat white, and a cake here. Coffee was delicious but no need to wait for the coffee as there are places around with similar level of coffee. Couldn’t finish the cake as it simply didn’t fit my taste.

Brilliant breakfast and lovely staff. The quality of the food justified the queue and the wait (walk ins only and it was a Easter Bank Holiday weekend) was well and fairly managed which made it a delightfully British queuing experience. Great coffee, excellent bread and top quality all round really! 🤩🥑🍳

A lovely intimate breakfast spot. The pancakes were absolutely sensational and the coffee incredibly smooth. I think it was slightly let down by the service which we felt could have been friendlier- would still give it a 5 based on the food being so good though.

Popped in for a take away coffee. Waiting a while. Then I noticed that a man who'd come in 5 minutes after me got given a take away coffee before me. I asked about it and they said my coffee had been given to him by mistake. He'd not drunk any of it, it was just sitting on the counter whilst he waited for something else, but it wasn't given to me instead! They apologised and said they'd make another one for me. They then made 2 drinks for other people before making mine!! AND the coffee was not even hot when I got it. Definitely won't be returning. So disappointing.

Myself and my partner use to go here regularly and were loyal customers. However we stopped going about a year or so ago due to staff being so rude. We had bottled water due to it being a hot day (with a long queue) and the staff very rudely told us to hide these under the tables?? Staff were very condescending and made us feel very unwelcome. Food is very overpriced and for such poor service we sadly won’t be going here again.

A classic York brunch spot I have visited many times. Their pancakes are so incredible that they have caused me to almost never order anything else when I go. The best topping is absolutely the yogurt, honey and compote. Although there's often a queue at peak times it is definitely worth a wait.

Went here yesterday, was served by a lovely young girl who is brilliant at her job! Food was excellent, place was extremely busy but well managed, would definitely go back.

Yummy pancakes, just right amount of sweet, smashed avacodos were too good with pickled veggies, dark hot chocolate with almond milk was heaven for my taste buds

My go to place for the best pancakes ever. Other menu options are delicious too, however I am partial to an American pancake stack. Mix it up a bit with seasonal specials. They do the best hot chocolate in town, I love my hot chocolate extra hot and they never disappoint. Always a pleasure to visit here.

Can't recommend this place enough. Beautifully presented and tasty dishes, promptly served. The selection of cakes is truly droolsome and they're all so wonderfully home-made. I had a sausage sandwich with white hot chocolate and my wife had a veggie breakfast. Perhaps a bit of a plain interior but with food of this quality who cares?

Headed here on a morning for breakfast. Highly recommend coming as early as you can; the place filled up pretty quickly with many people waiting outside. Inside is very modern with local art prints and plenty of cakes and brownies strewn across the counter and windowsill. The breakfast was exceptional with butter bean baked beans, crispy streaky bacon and their sourdough bread. The eggs were cooked perfectly - I would highly recommend adding some black pudding to the breakfast for the full experience. We saw a neighbouring customer get their pancakes and they were stacked very high, with loads of syrup and cream! Unfortunate we didn’t stay another day to try them. The orange juice, although £4, was really fresh and worth it as a pick-me-up on a morning. We went back later in the day to get some billionaire’s shortbread and brownies for takeaway 😅

Wow !! We passed this place on our way from the station and it looked amazing, we went for breakfast it was absolutely amazing, couldn’t fault anything, staff were really lovely very professional, service was wonderful as was the coffee and fresh orange juice alongside our food! We will most certainly be back when we next visit York 😘

This place is top notch. The reviews are right! The service was excellent and the egg royale we had was creamy and delicious! Depending on the timing, the queue might not be that long, and its worth waiting! Highly recommend the place for brunch!

Recommended this so decided to try it. Personally I wasn’t a fan on the breakfast felt it was a little too fancy nothing against it just weren’t us. Service was good. Had to queue for about 10 minutes but other than that no issues. Caramel latte was gorgeous!

The coffee was very good with plenty of choice and the cinnamon bun was excellent. There were lots of food options which looked delicious so a reason to go back again soon. We went to the take out shop just down from the main cafe, this has less seating I think but was warm with a nice ambience. The staff were very friendly.

After a short wait outside, we managed to get a table. This is quite unusual as we have walked past many occasions and there’s been a long queue. It just shows how popular this cafe is! I’ve been many times when it first opened, so familiar with the set up. However, the decor looks great and feels freshened from my last visit before lockdown. The chap who ushered us in was lovely and friendly!! We were a bit late having lunch, so some of the options were sold out! But we plumped for pancakes and brioche french toast. The drinks were ordered and came quite quickly. The cake counter had many delightful bakes, but we couldn’t fit in after a lovely lunch, so we’ll be back again next time!!

gosh where do i even start. i never normally review food places but i had so much to say about this one i simply had to rave about it. coffee-wise i got a mocha, and the coffee was so nice, it was definitely a bitterer roast than i’m used to but the chocolate from the mocha balanced it out perfectly, and you could tell that the coffee was high quality, so absolutely recommend that. the cakes and bakes displayed caught my eye instantly, they were very tempting, ranging from a biscoff rocky road to a white chocolate and kinder bueno brownie, all looking absolutely delicious. however, for my food i decided on one of the specials, the ‘rhubarb custard’ french toast, and i’m not even exaggerating when i say this might be the best french toast i have ever eaten. the texture was absolutely perfect, it was fluffy and soft, and the toppings were the icing on top of the cake (figuratively and literally). the vanilla custard was so decadent and smooth, and the crème brûlée style topping added a satisfying crunch. the rhubarb jam brought a tart flavour which complimented the sweet custard, and the flaked almonds were a nice addition for both tasteful and visual purposes. the portion size was just the right amount and i cleared the plate feeling satisfied. though the prices were a bit on the expensive side, in my opinion it’s absolutely worth it and you get the bank for your buck, as they are very generous with their portions also: my friend got the smashed avocado on sourdough and it was heaped with a hefty amount of avocado. the service was also brilliant, they were very nice and everything was brought to us very quickly. in conclusion, i 100% recommend this cafe, and i will in no doubt be going back in the future to try some of their cakes!

After a short 10 min wait we got seated. Biscoff hot chocolate was very nice, the tea was also good. Eggs royale was superb and I had bacon/sausage sandwich with hashbrowns, was brilliant. Sourdough was lovely and soft. Decent value as we both couldn’t finish either, good sized portions.

What a lovely coffee/tea shop! I had a delicious brunch, the sourdough toast with scrambled eggs topped with smoked Salmon was divine! The double espresso was also very tasty (I had two). They have good options of baking goods, from their signature brownies to muffins and apple pies. Service was excellent, Francesca and Georgia were fantastic, very welcoming and sweet. Atmosphere is great and cozy. Summary of it: for a fabulous brunch experience in York, don’t even think twice, Brew & Brownie is the place to go!

This is an excellent place for breakfast with a good set of options to eat and a wide range of coffee and teas. We quite enjoyed our breakfast and would come back. One warning, there is often a wait to get in (a good sign that this is an excellent place to go to).

Found this place while looking for somewhere for breakfast while visiting York for new year. Chances are that you will have to queue because it does get very busy. We queued for about 10 minutes. I chose a full English breakfast and my wife had porridge with fruit with a coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Everything was superb. I would go as far to say that the full breakfast was the best one i have ever had and i mentioned that to the waitress. The service and food was faultless. Can't recommend this place enough if you are in York.

Had some excellent French Toast here whilst I visited York. Highly recommend though I suggest people come early as it can get packed quickly (May 2023).

I'm not sure what kind of witchcraft they use to make their food, but the English Breakfast is the best I've had. Ever. Enough said.

Three cheese, Leek and Red Onion toastie was great, at £9 the price was a tiny bit steep, but ultimately well worth it. The Quiche on the other hand was incredibly tasty, at a very moderate price. The tea and coffee were delicious. Highly recommendes for a warming breakfast or lunch.

Some of the best breakfast I've ever had. Lovely cappuccino that was equally smooth as it was rich, possibly the best veggie breakfast I've ever had, followed by a lovely biscoff hot chocolate to share. Definitely recommend this above all else if visiting York.

This place is an amazing place to have breakfast and lunch. Amazing food, incredible service and spacious. You would not be able to have better breakfast than this in york.

I managed to get in early, so I didn't have to wait. But as my partner and I sat down to eat, there was a queue outside. And for good reason. This place is phenomenal and excels in everything it does. We had the classic Full English. I'm not a fan of beans in general and at the time I was a chronic fussy-eater (fully recovered now)! The staff were very attentive and got my order exactly right. Hopefully when I return again, I can eat the full plate like my partner - as according to him - it was the best Full English he's ever had! A highlight for me was the sausage, bacon and egg. Perfectly cooked!

Really enjoyed breakfast at this little cafe. All the food was really delicious. Pancakes seemed fresh, not reheated. Arrived a bit before opening to avoid the line. The coffee was also excellent. So good we came back the next day!

Great place for breakfast! I had the yoghurt, honey, compote and peacan pancakes and they were amazing. So fluffy, definitely could have just had the half a stack because I couldn’t finish the full one. Lovely place sit in, cosy and good atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Had to go the next day to try the brownies they had on display, and I am very glad we did!

Not family friendly. Disgusting attitude towards Mum and 2 boys group. Clearly there was a table free and space. The Waitress kept fussing, rudely said not enough space, asking neighbouring tables if we could sit there! Then turned us away. Worth the wait for a table (and there is often a long queue outside), this tiny cafe offers delicious savoury dishes to please all palates, but do keep room for one of their sweet treats. Will definitely be back even if it means queueing for over half an hour!

Perfect place... Delicious food!!!

An array of top tier homemade sweet treats. The real problem coming here is choosing what to indulge in. I had a lemon curd doughnut and an iced tea, which is also made in house. This is sharper than storebought which is no bad thing as it's more refreshing. Delivered with care and a lemon slice, fresh berries and mint further enhances the taste and experience. The doughnut was soft well filled and covered in sugar. Both Half's of my pitstop were £3.75 which feels right these days. 5 star hygiene rated and with very happy friendly staff there's no reason to not wholeheartedly recommend.

Absolutely top class breakfast and choice of foods. Only downside if the long queue but at least you know the place is going to be good!

Had breakfast here twice while on holiday in York since it was so good. Service was great and food was incredibly good. Highly recommend even if you just stop in for a takeaway coffee and treat!

What an amazing café. Both the sweet and savory options are amazing. We actually ended up going twice while in York as it was that enjoyable. The staff were so friendly and when we left there was a queue down the street! The full breakfast was of great quality and the sweetcorn fritters were also fantastic. Then we move onto the sweet stuff. The banana and biscoff loaf was to die for. We also had a blueberry, pecan and white chocolate brownie, if either of these are available when you go then get them!

Strongly recommend trying their English breakfast! The tomato and beans were amazing. Definitely will visit again for pancakes.

This place does great breakfast. We got here on a Sunday and had to queue for 15-20mins, but was absolutely worth the wait. Probably some of the best mushrooms I've ever had with a Fried breakfast.

As a lover of chocolate I went for the chocolate brownie and it was too rich for my taste. The blondie was beautiful though and the coffee was great too. Their means looked delicious but I'd already had lunch. Nice place.

Waited 20 minutes for a table (queue is outside), small cosy cafe, service was great (brilliant with my child's allergies) and very friendly. Pancakes were delicious, probably one of the best American style I have tried. Full English breakfast was very good. Would visit again.
