The service is very friendly and the atmosphere, despite being small, is welcoming, the pizza was wonderful, the lasagna and the rest of the dishes were ok, nothing special

If you like the cosy, family bistro experience this is the place to go. Don't compare to chain restaurants or fine dining, if that's your style go else where. If you want relaxed and friendly service, great selection of drinks, boozy cocktails, tasty Italian food and a no rush atmosphere then Villaggio is for you. Great sound track too. We loved it and will go back.

We booked in for dinner (definitely worth reserving a table during busy periods) on Saturday night. Our little dog was also welcome which was a massive bonus! The small restaurant is nestled on the corner of Queen Street and could be hard to miss if you weren’t looking for it. Inside the decor feels authentic and though tables are quite closely packed together, once sat down you feel really comfortable. The food is great value for money (albeit the dessert a little pricey) but everything’s made fresh and the dough is fantastic - pizza’s definitely the best we’ve had outside Italy! Soft drink options are a little limited to only the pricier small glass bottles, but the alcohol menu has a wide selection. Would definitely recommend Villaggio to anyone visiting York!

The pizza and salad are delicious, but the pasta is too soft

“The best pizza for 48 years!” My husband had a pizza and said it was the best he’d eaten since eating one on the Lakenheath American air base in 1976! I’m a vegetarian and there was loads of choice for me (though be careful - some dishes described as vegetarian contain Parmesan). The staff are great, the vibe is fab, we even loved the soundtrack. If we lived here, we’d visit every week. In fact, we’re thinking of moving!

Fabulous independent Italian. We've passed this restaurant many a time and never been in. We had a delicious three course meal, will definitely call in again.

I visited here with my children on a half term trip to York. We were staying across the road at the Premier Inn. The pizzas were gorgeous. The restaurant is little and nicely decorated and the service was excellent.

We each had a main, bolognese for me and a pappardelle pasta dish for my wife . They were really good and plenty of it. I had one of their special tap beers which was great. All finished off with a cappuccino for my wife and an espresso plus a grappa nonino (Italian brandy) for me. Service was excellent and good value food.

Wow, what a find. After a rainy day in York ,walking for hours, stumbling upon this place was the perfect end. The vibe is great and the food is stunning and equally important it's very fairy priced. We will 💯 return.

I was surprised that it had the most toppings out of all the pescatore I've ever eaten! However, the taste was bland and the pasta was too soft, so I didn't really like it.

Excellent place! Fab range of craft ales and special choice of wines. Pastas, pizzas and salads clearly sourced from the best suppliers. So good the 1st night we booked another 2 days later. And such lovely staff.

This place is amazing, excellent atmosphere, great food, VEGAN food also available, staff very friendly and Laba and Chris are extremely friendly and welcoming for all customers.

Having belatedly suddenly realised that I had promised to take my son out for tea I began to search out a restaurant but everywhere I attended it was a biblical no room at the Inn! In a last gasp attempt I stumbled into La Tazzina thinking it was Delrios, I bumped into the proprietor an extremely pleasant courteous fellow named Chris who informed me I was in the wrong dwelling, but savouring the wondrous odours permeating from the kitchen I enquired could we dine here? With a bit of jiggling he organised it, when arriving we found a vibrant full restaurant and immediately thought were are we going to sit trying to spot who was on the pudding! We were then asked by one of the very pleasant staff asking would we mind dining upstairs, what a treat beautiful table looking out on micklegate bar, the service was exemplary, the food exceptional, and value for money unbelievable! An unassuming, cozy little place with a really laid back feel. The pizza was excellent, with sourdough bases and great toppings (we had the vegetarian and funghi/tartufo). Service was quietly efficient, friendly and perfectly right for the intimate atmosphere. Great value as well, really couldn't fault it!

Our second visit to La Tazzina during visits to York. Again, we were not disappointed. Very friendly welcome to this small restaurant with a great atmosphere. Always seems busy, which says it all, so it is usually best to book before you go. There may be a wait for freshly cooked food, but it is well worth the wait. It is lovely to watch the pizzas being made and cooked in a pizza oven. A delicious experience. 😋 We shall be back and would thoroughly recommend it to all. Pat and Tony

Walking back from the station we stumbled across this beautiful little restaurant. The waitress was very attentive and when they didn’t have the wine I asked for she suggested an alternative that was really good. On a Wednesday evening it was very busy, with the standard of food this is not surprising.

We were in York for my wifes birthday staying at the Premier Inn on Blossom Street, Cafe La Tazzina is just across the road so was an easy choice for dinner. We had passed by the night before and it looked like one of the small, personal places we like to eat at. We had prebooked a table during the afternoon and arrived slightly early and were greeted by a smiling very welcoming young lady who showed us to our reserved table and took our drinks order of Moretti beers. I had the Escalope Milanese served with a rocket salad while my wife had the Lamb Shank and vegetables both from the specials menu. Although not packed midweek service was excellent and always with a smile. Portions were good, prices good for York food and service excellent, we will certainly return when next in York.

Just wow on the pizza and staff ! We were very lucky to get seated the lady was so lovely ,friendly and helpful ,I asked advice on bolognaise,pizza or lamb and was advised no better pizza so bolognaise pizza it was and it did not dissapoint ! We had two moretti and the Luigi and rustica and would definitely return 🥰

Delicious food, dined with a toddler who loved the food. Extensive craft beer selection was a treat. Couldn't recommend more for a family with young kids.

What a find the full package food, beer, wine and service. Pasta and pizza both excellent and how a small cafe supports such a keg list I have no idea. Combine that with sensible pricing and a lovely traditional atmosphere you can’t go wrong.

Just stumbled across this place when looking for a bite to eat whilst visiting York. What a great find. Food was excellent as was the service and all at a reasonable price. Hold on, they also had 20 craft beers available the 2 of which I had were top quality. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We have been many times in 2023 and whether mid summer or winter, at lunchtime, during the week or weekends, we are always greeted with a smile and excellent service. The food is consistently high quality and reasonably priced. It’s probably not high cuisine, but it is authentically high quality Italian food and you may need to wait a little while but that’s because your food is being cooked from fresh. Honestly, one of the most consistent and highest quality restaurants in York over the last five years.

We have walked this place many times and commented how nice it looks and what a good beer selection they have. Tonight we were headed to York and decided to see if they could squeeze us in. Happily they could! The food was excellent, pizza was exactly what I'm looking for in a pizza with a decently thick but fresh and light crust and a lovely cheesy topping. The food we saw on a neighbouring table also looked delicious. The beers didn't disappoint either. We could have stayed there all night working our way through an excellent tap list. But biggest credit has to go to the staff. Not only was the service friendly and prompt but they even chased us down the street to return items we'd left in the restaurant. Would highly recommend. We'll be going back!

We went as a family and had a fantastic meal. The pasta and lamb shank specials were delicious, as was the wine selection. Service was really attentive and the venue has a lovely atmosphere. I’m disabled and we were given a table on the ground floor which was perfect, thank you!

Our second visit here came back because we enjoyed it last year when we visited York for the first time. Lovely little place, great pizza, friendly staff, will be back.

Found this fabulous little Italian Restaurant at the junction of Blossom Street and Queen Street in York and had a fabulous meal there last night. Very warm, friendly staff, great food and wine and the menu is competitively priced. I had the Carbonara and my wife had a pizza as mains with the pate for starters. Nicely sized portions and very tasty food. I certainly will return next time I stay in York and I heartily recommend them if you are looking for an Italian meal.

What a great experience. We really felt we were in a cafe in Italy Pizzas all home made to order. Yummy! Carbonarra delicious Wine fantastic, different from the run of the mill stuff. Ambience excellent. The 2nd visit was better than the 1st. Dinning upstairs in in a quirky family lounge. Definitely recommend and would undoubtedly return when next in York.

Amazing pizza and 10/10 service. So handy for the train station. Brilliant accommodation of gluten free dietary requirement - they provided a gluten free pizza base for me with no extra charge

Always lovely to dine at La Tazzina. Great atmosphere, they have super tasty food and a pizza oven which is a plus if you expect proper pizza. Good cocktails, nicely sized antipast, service is always kind to us… The only thing, on one occasion we waited for 1 hour 45 to get our pasta soooo just bear in mind when it’s busy it ma at take a wee while. Apart from that this is a genuinely great place.

Fabulous restaurant. Went one night, it was so good we went back the next night. Couldn't do any more as we were heading home! Lovely service (by very nice young ladies that looked like children to this old codger!). Excellent food, really quite exceptional and fabulous value. Really nice vibe too, relaxed and cosy and just very pleasant. Looked like everyone else was having a great time too! 👍

Very good food and great value for money

Lovely welcome and good atmosphere. Deciding what to eat and drink was a slight problem, but in a good way. The list of craft beers was extensive and the selection of gins and wines was equally good. We saw a couple of pizzas being delivered to another table and they looked very authentic, not huge, but with a thin base that was puffed up around the edges. The selection of starters was good, but we decided to go straight for main courses - two pizzas and two pastas. All were tasty and well cooked and presented. Two of us went for the Wind Surf and Sea Club 4.5% DDH Pale and it was very clean, sharp and fruity. It looked like a Weiss beer - very cloudy and pale. Too flavoured for a session beer, but as an accompaniment to a meal it worked well. The service we received was excellent and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. The toilets are downstairs which may be a problem for those that are not quite so mobile. Will definitely return next time we're in York.

Very cute small bistro/restaurant. The prices are very affordable, 11 pounds for a huge chicken milanese dish and side spaghetti for example. Due to a google maps gaffe my wife and I actually thought it was Del Rio’s which is located in the basement of the same building. We didnt realize our mistake until the end of the meal! Anyway we had a lovely meal, the service was friendly and prompt. We really liked the bread and nduja with olives appetizer. I had the chicken milanese special and the chicken was great, very large portion, too much for me to finish really. The side spaghetti was a bit disappointing though, dry sauce and dry noodles. My wife liked her pappardelle special though. Overall its a lovely little place to stop in. I got the sense that they are mainly known for their personal sized pizzas though so maybe next time we will go for one of those. They have a nice craft beer tap selection and a good gin selection as well.

Popped in for a couple of drinks and cake for our youngest daughter on a Sunday afternoon. Incredibly friendly staff and super relaxed vibe. A great selection of tap beers (around 20 or so) Prices were reasonable. Would definitely recommend and make a return visit.

One of York's best hidden gems. Food was delicious, truly amazing. Staff friendly and helpful and the setting is super cosy and feels like family.

Beautiful, intimate, authentic restaurant with simple, delicious food, exceptional craft beer and brilliant, genuinely friendly, service. And a mean negroni! I considered giving the cafe 1 star just to keep it a secret but that wouldn't be fair.

Visiting from Canada and wanted a place to eat on the quieter side of the river. Stumbled upon this place and had a delicious pizza and pasta with a bottle of wine. Reasonable price - great service - perfect atmosphere.

We stayed for drinks and we did not eat. The selection of tapped beers and cider was incredible for this type of establishment. It was quiet when we visited but I've given 5* for atmosphere because it suited what we were after. The staff were very friendly too.

What more could you want!! A cosy, homely Italian restaurant that feels so welcoming. The staff were so lovely when we stopped in for a post-gig pudding and a glass of wine. What an absolute find!

Absolutely incredible. I went there with Miss McMahon, and I can without a doubt say I had the best pizza i've ever had there! The walls overwhelmed with decorations however this produced a cosy and artistic feel. Furthermore, great music on in the background, friendly staff and although the menu was small, everything on it was the highest quality. Overall, it's got delicious food, a nice atmosphere and top notch service, what more could you want?

Looked good from the outside and did not disappoint, freshly cooked everything to order and a nice touch for a birthday .

This place I can give it 10/10 stars I would! The food was amazing, the pasta and lasagna were on the “specials” recommendation, and it truly outstanding. The service was really good, the atmosphere great for a date night. Towards the end, our waitress made a delicious hot chocolate for me, we stayed until the place closed. I wish I had taken more photos!

I like the decor! Seems like a nice place for pizza or drinks. Its not 4.8 or even a 4.5. Food is ok. Pizza base was nice. Heavy hand with the chili flakes. Sort of gluten free friendly. Staff didnt seem to know what was gf on the menu. Pasta was broken and clumpy. Would not eat here again.

We were in York for 2 nights. We already had a reservation for somewhere else on our first night but we managed to get a table in here for some drinks beforehand. The drinks choice is amazing and the food looked so good that we went back on our second night to have a meal. We weren't disappointed and the food was really good. A particular highlight is their craft beer list. It's huge with some really interesting beers. Go here for the food. Go here for the beer. Just go here!

First time in York and came across this cute Italian a stones throw from our accommodation. Food was delicious. Chef came out to accommodate for a dietary request. Felt very looked after from all staff. Would highly recommend and will return if in York again!!

Visited York for the first time, and without doubt, this was our favourite (of a fair few!) bars and pubs we tried. Right on the corner at Micklegate. The very lovely owners’ passion for this cafe/bar/tap-room/pizzeria is clear to see…incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and constantly smiling & singing! Just lovely to see! Wasn’t too crowded when we visited and the vibe was just perfect after a strenuous day walking the streets of the fabulous city. Perfect stop off for us after dinner, though the waft of fresh made pizza was tempting. Could quite easily spend hours in this place & will definitely return. I urge you to spend some time here! The drink here is tap 20…fabulous!
