Popped in to the Royal Oak after shopping at the York outlet. Julie the landlady and her husband Paul where very welcoming and friendly. Kian the young barman was helpful and polite. Unfortunately we had to leave before the outdoor pizzeria had warmed up. All in all a very nice village pub.

First time in the pub. We did not get a warm welcome. Bar maid made us feel rushed. Saying anything else, any thing else while we were deciding and looking at what drinks they sell. Asked about booking a table for Sunday lunch to be told we don't do food. Despite advertising outside .

Although both TripAdvisor and the pub's website say they are open, they do not serve food. The pub even had a banner up saying fresh food being served! What is the point of TripAdvisor if it's details can't be trusted?

Seven of us had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Royal Oak. Large portions of the best quality meat (which fell apart in your mouth), superb Yorkshire puddings, all complimented by tasty vegetables, made for a really enjoyable lunch. Best of all, Sharon ensured my wife, who is coeliac, could have exactly the same meal but gluten-free! Highly recommended.

We've been supporting the Oak since it started doing food again, and have been regularly for lunch during the week, which has always been fantastic. We tried a takeaway Sunday lunch, which was lovely, so we decided to book again for ourselves and two family members. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to standard on that occasion. However, undaunted, we decided to give the Sunday lunch another try ourselves yesterday. The menu looked even better than before, and the presentation was wonderful, but the food didn't live up to our expectations. With the exception of the lamb shank, which was superb, the rest of the food was definitely substandard. The beef was undercooked, rubbery and chewy, and almost impossible to cut even with the addition of a steak knife. The roast potatoes were tough and soggy, the carrots cold and the peas hard. The cauliflower cheese was ok although a little burnt. We won't be doing Sunday lunch again here but will continue to support the pub during the week.

With the Royal Oaks menu starting tonight we thought we'd go and try it. We started with bread with balsamic and oil and crispy potato skins. They were both delicious and fresh. I had the penne arabbiatta which was flavoursome and well cooked. Hubby the Oak burger which had a lovely char, was succulent and very tasty. It came with home cooked chips and coleslaw. As always the service was friendly and professional.

Popped in as it was open which is a rarity at the moment it seems, which to this day still baffles me, but it was early tea time, the licencee shuts early or at random times if there's noone in rather than sticking to set opening hour which I know is keeping the locals away so I've heard. Seems prices have had a massive hike since lockdown, £4.60 a pint! Anyway apart the above, very pleasant staff and decent beer. April 2022- Pint of Carling is now £4.40!!!!! So won't be on that anymore. Tap water and cordial, just get EastEnders on the TV and I'll save enough on my home heating to buy a pint [one day]

Visit to york - such a beautiful place, everyone so friendly but the most upsetting experience here. 5 of us waited patiently for outside seating...we finally got 2 tables but only 4 chairs. We asked a customer if they could take their 2 ruck sacks off a third chair they had on their table as there was only 2 if them and allow us to have the chair as we had 4 chairs for 5 people. They said the floor was wet and wouldn't oblige - as if that wasn't bad enough we asked the manager if he could ask the lady to give up the chair as it was holding only 2 ruck sacks or would he take the bags inside and hold onto them..he told us no he can't make customers do that...but was quite rude and direct as he relayed this We decided to leave - as 3 of my family are quite elderly and it wasn't right to one of us to stand up to have a coffee... I asked if he was the owner as I would like to pass my concerns onto them..he threw his arms up in the air ...marched around the counter aggressively and stood very close to me intimidating me. He was shouting what do you expect me to do...at this point I said...all I expect is for you to act professionally and not in this aggressive and very frightening manner... He shouted I can't ask customers to take bags off chairs...I could feel myself shaking. Due to his aggression we left quietly as it was not only embarrassing but as a female quite scary. If he is the owner he displayed the most appauling customer care and service. His actions and aggression to a female demonstrated his misogynist personality and was quite appauling for someone in the service industry York is beautiful.....we eventually found a lovely coffee place opp york minister called CRUMBS .. you can sit outside - the staff were so lovely friendly welcoming and the coffee was superb. They offer a range of cupcakes that are devine....and the view overlooking a courtyard was picturesque
