Braai Shack in Milton Keynes

Starter was tasty, however after 2.5hrs we only had our starter.service was terrible, never come to apologise for the wait. Water coming through ceiling, never offered to move us. We decided to leave we paid for drinks and starters. Such a disappointment. Family over from Spain and was our last evening for family meal. They need to get kitchen sorted. They should not take booking for ten people if they have no staff. Thank you for your response, however we was not informed you had issues in the kitchen, this was actually us saying you must have issues in kitchen. This is not an acceptable response and very disappointed. Unfortunately my family was over for my mother’s funeral which was yesterday , so the meal was extremely important to us as a family. As restaurant managers in our family and me as a customer service manager you need to look at your communication to your customer. Perhaps an apologies to customers for a fire alarm going off would be a start but again nothing was said. Wish you were quick with our meal like you was responding to our review.

Brillant 1st time experience, I had the ultimate ribs with a side of Mac n Cheese, will be returning to try the mixed exotic meats! Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a taste of South Africa 🇿🇦

Excellent experience! Staff very welcoming and informative. It's a family run established and you can feel that in the atmosphere. Food was authentic with very generous portions. Cocktails were very moreish and went down easy! Thank you for a great evening!

I would say overall this was underwhelming. We had a lot of different dishes on our large table and everything was pretty good except for the don Pedro melktart which had far too much cinnamon in it. We would have complained but frankly it had taken so long to bring out 11 desserts that everyone else had finished so we didn’t say anything. The main issues were not the food though, it was something much more frustrating. A lot of people will travel miles to try this place because of their South African connections and to arrive and be told this so many items were not in the menu was a poor start. The service was passable but not bubbly, smiley or enthusiastic, like they hated being there. There were large gaps between dishes coming out which affects the experience . I would say overall not bad, could do better and crucially some staff training and better kitchen ordering . If it’s difficult to get then take it off the menu otherwise people will be disappointed. On the plus side it was tasty and well priced.If it was a school mark I’d say B- could do better

Great place if you are looking to try something a bit different, my partner got to try crocodile and ostrich! Food was tasty and portions were big! Nice cocktails. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Will be coming back, got to try the zebra next time!

Went for a family meal and the first thing I noticed was a lady in the garden area smoking a joint, the smell was horrendous and if ihad arranged the meal then we would have left. If this wasn't bad enough the food was of really poor quality and the only thing that looked remotely edible was a jacket potato, we also had to remind them that they had forgot to bring a meal out, they obviously hadn't cooked it as the wait was ages. In conclusion it is overpriced, a bad atmosphere, poor customer service, dirty and I won't ever step foot in this place again AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Authentic food which was delicious. Best mac and cheese i've ever had and the boerewors sausage is a must try. I will definitely be coming back!

Tables clean. Great menu and reasonably priced. Four of us ate today, all the food arrived at the same time. Piping hot and generous, fresh portions. Definitely will be back

Went to braai shack today, food was amazing and quick. We were served by the lovely Pagen who was attentive and very knowledgeable on the menu.

Come for a meal this evening with high hopes for my food as usual. Did not disappoint I must say. Waitress come over to our table to take a drinks order very fast with a smile on her face which was lovely. Portion sizes were amazing and very filling.

Terrible..!!! Food poisoning!!! Wouldn’t advice you go We went last night for a dinner and honestly I was disappointed. We had been to the restaurant before but this time the standard of restaurant has gone done. The restaurant was empty which was so unusual. When we ordered drinks, they came with no ice & the drinks were warm & we had to ask for ice. Drinking glasses were dirty. We had to ask for straws. The food then came. The sadza was semi hot, but because the kids were hungry they just ate. There were no napkins on the tables. The toilet were filthy dirty and smelling. The door handles were so dirty. The table we were sitting on was sticky and we had to clean with our own wipes as the staff were just no where to be food. As we left the restaurant, my kids started complaining for stomachaches. During the night both kids ended up throwing up a lot. My older threw up the spaghetti she had eaten. Honestly not the same restaurant it was as before, but really disgusted and disappointed with the food. I wouldn’t advice you go as now my kids all have food poisoning from that food.

Comfy and cozy. Children friendly menu. Their Sunnyside Special Burger and Hash Brown Special are our family's favorites.

Being a SAFFA I was disappointed with the breakfast. Cold, bacon was hard, fried slice too oily and hard. Coke ordered was warm - they should stock fridge in the eve. The staff were friendly but service was very slow when ordering at counter. Restaurant was clean.

Many times we have been to the Braai Shack Restaurant and every time does not let us down great food, great service, great atmosphere will never get bored of this place love it.

Took my South African friend here and she loved it. Made her feel like she was home. The rest of us also really enjoyed our food. Great prices as well and good portion sizes.

I haven't been here since COVID lockdown so I was impressed with the quality of the food and quantity. Nice atmosphere too. I'll definitely be returning.

We ate here early Sunday evening having planned to visit for many years. The food was excellent - firstly we were served with some delicious bread that tasted like it had been deep fried. I had piri piri chicken livers and they were very good and definitely punchy with the spices. For mains I had the Malay curry and asked for it spicy and it was perfect, my wife had the chicken skewers which were also very good. Next time we may try one of the more exotic dishes but this felt like home cooking at its very best. The ambience is quite wooden(literally) and service was ok but not massively attentive.

Felt like home but not exactly the same flavour and quality that I'm used to. It was good, it was okay, but I unfortunately cannot justify the cost and quality of food you receive. I want to recommend it for the nostalgia of cracking open a creme soda and granadilla with follow South Africans.

Had the pork belly and beef ribs from the van in Godalming charged me £14 for ribs that came out of a plastic pack obviously ones you get from the supermarket pork belly was ok bit burnt chips were great staff were lovely overall won't be going back next time I'll grab a few burgers and some meat from sainsbury and chuck it on the bbq myself

As a large group we pre ordered food the day before. You would think that doing so wouldn't mean half out meet coming out tough and dry and the other half a paracetamol away from getting back out in the fields. Very disappointed overall. This was meant to be a birthday celebration and most of us are very ill this morning.

Here's my very in-depth review of this restaurant and why I'm so shocked to see it has such high reviews. We had a party of 12 and we pre-ordered our food the day before so baffled to why this was such a mess. 1) Our server didn't crack a smile the entire time we were there, she clearly wasn't happy to be in work and it showed. 2) The wait times between our courses was ridiculous. We arrived on time, the waiter came by quickly to confirm pre orders, a few side orders were added to the mains, aside from that nothing changed. We waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive and then another 20 minutes for our starters to come. We thought all was going well but then an entire hour rolled by with no sign of our mains, I asked our waiter how long the food was going to be, she disappeared and we didn't see her again for a while. I then had to get up, to go ask another waiter to find our waiter and see how long the food was going to be. 3) When the food arrived, two of the people ordered the chicken curry, one curry was swimming in oil, the other not. We asked the person who brought the food out if it was meant to be like that, he said yes, we then asked the waiter who said no and it got sent back. 4) Our Mac and cheese was swimming in oil. I know cheese is meant to have oil in it but it was to the point you poured the dish and the oil dripped out. It was also flavourless and penne pasta and not Mac.. 5) My venison was lovely. I ordered it medium rare and was happy until I got about half way through and it started to get bluer and by the end of it, the poor thing was practically kicking again. 6) Two people's hanging kebabs, one was edible, one was so tough that she was literally chewing it for over 5 minutes to try eat it and ended up spitting it out. She left all of it and when collecting food did the waiter ask why an entire meal was left? Nope :) 7) Not sure if it's this type of food but most of the food was very overly salty. 8) My husband had a platter, the majority of his food was very dry (Clearly sat under a heat lamp) he asked me to try some of his food and I was like oh this is lovely pork and then found out that was meant to be the brisket.. The majority of us today aren't feeling well and I just think at an average of £35 a main course, £45+ each for the entire meal, and such a high rating, you expect so much more out of food and service but it was so so so disappointing. On a positive note, a waiter that wasn't our waiter did continuously ask throughout our 1 hour wait if we wanted more drinks and apparently out of the 12 guests at the table, the one person who had the oxtail curry said his curry was nice but it was more tail than ox. So a 1/12 ain't bad...

Bit quiet tonight, so a little lacking in atmosphere. But overall a good evening

A mate of mine recommended this place, missing home I decided to give it a bash. Absolutely amazing food, chicken liver starter was as good as any I have ever had, 20oz t-bone was a monster but perfectly done to my liking, peppermint tart..... Well just wow.... Yip it was that good...... Many South African drinks available which was a surprising bonus.

What an absolute gem, food was insanely amazing, authentic cuisine, mesmerising taste, every single thing about tonight's experience screamed Mzansi/Southern Africa....what perfection. Thank YOU for using the correct home based chefs....you could teach Shaka Zulu Camden a thing or two.... Ps, look into supporting wheelchair accessibility to your restrooms🩷

Food tastes good and authentic. Waiting time can sometimes be really long but it’s worth it!

Stopped here while looking for somewhere to eat with the kids and so glad we did. My wife and I share the meat platter and it was delicious. Curried kidney beans and chicken livers on the side were great, really flavoursome. Kids had kebab and a burger that they both enjoyed. Service was friendly and efficient with our waiter polite and only to happy to explain things on the menu that were new to us. Will definitely be going back and reasonably priced.

Brilliant excellent and fantastic atmosphere

We had a wonderful triple birthday celebration last night at Braai Shack. It was our first visit. The restaurant is casually laid back which is typical of Cape Town dining. Our children (17, 15, 13) all found the food tasty and filling. My son commented that it was the best meal we have been out for in a long time! Prices are fair for the quality and quantity you are getting. Favourite dish was the creamy mussels. Meats were all tender and cooked to perfection for our taste. My husband had the mutton curry which was superb. Overall I would highly recommend this place for a special meal with family or friends. Service was brilliant and very friendly. Thanks for a super time!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, we arrived as the doors opened and were welcomed and seated by friendly staff. Food and drinks arrived quickly and all were of exceptional quality, it was my first time trying ostrich and it exceeded my expectations. Snacks were also brought out in between which was a very nice addition. The others who joined me were also blown away by the meals they had. We will definitely be back soon!

What a special place! Great food and an authentic southern African vibe. I am half South African and often long for the flavors of my mum’s homeland. Do-owners and sisters, Cressida and Roz did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and accommodating, the ambiance was soulful and heartwarming, and the music made you want to get up and stomp. We will definitely be back soon!

Never answer the phone. Don't bother

Food was really nice, however staff kept giving us the wrong order. It’s impossible to book a table as nobody answers the phone. There was a white rude woman who got rude to us a few times. The atmosphere is not welcoming however the food comes in huge portions. The restaurant overcharged us twice.

The food is divine, both times I've gone there we had to wait 2 hours for the food. Due to the outdoor functions, it makes the restaurant a bit noisy, hard to hear each other, and converse due to the noise.

We attended the braai shack for my birthday with some friends and family. The food as always was fantastic. However, the service was very disappointing. We first had to ask for a drink that had not arrived several attempts at waiving down someone to help. Then a starter arrived with no cutlery. We again had to waive down a waiter after asking the first time for cutlery for the very same starter. Later the mains arrived with would you guess it...no cutlery. At no point did we get anyone asking how everything was or how our mea was. When it came time for the bill it was much the same... we tried to flag a waiter down and the waited sometime for the bill arrive. This is when I was particularly annoyed to find that a service charge had been added of over 20% to the bill. I was appalled to see this had been applied after the service we had received. According to UK law, service charges added by the restaurant are entirely optional. If you aren't happy with the service or if you'd prefer to calculate your own tip, you can ask for it to be removed and for a new bill to be printed. If I choose to eat here again. I will be asking for this to be removed. This should also be made clear to customers by the restaurant that the fee is not mandatory and in fact should be removed altogether from future receipts.

Beautiful steak, delicious sauces, crunchy chips, fresh salad and gorgeous dressings. Ridiculously delicious. Definitely going back again!!

Slow service to our table. The food was good, and the menu has a variety of options. I'm just not sure about the club, like setup at the back of the restaurant or adjoining section.

We visited for an evening meal and drinks and for our first time we were not disappointed. Absolutely amazing food! Succulent and tasty chicken, lovely presentation, full of flavour and excellent value. Went for the house white which was yummy! The atmosphere was really welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was great as were all the staff serving us. The overall decor is really stunning and having the pub garden straight outside meant we could carry on our evening after our meal. Would highly recommend and will be back as it really was a lovely evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves 😍

Wouldn’t recommend this I’m afraid. We had real expectations it would be good but that seriously wasn’t the case. My wife is south African and she was desperate for a good boerewors roll. It didn’t start well. Too hot, no air con on and then the red wine was off (corked). Then they had no billtong as a starter so we waited for main course. After an hour of waiting I asked and was quite rudely told I had only ordered 20 mins earlier. Completely untrue. The main courses arrived. Not bad. Hot enough but the ribs were fatty, steak over cooked and pretty underwhelming, maybe it was just a bad night but not what we were expecting. Avoid if you want a good meal and good service.

Oh my word, a South African’s dream!!!!!! Everything you would desire is available on the menu and cooked to perfection with portion sizes only a true South African could devour !!!!! Absolutely awesome place owned by a really friendly and welcoming host. I can’t wait to show all my friends and come back 😊 thank you !!!

The Braai Shack is usually closed on a Monday. However on the August Bank Holiday Monday I sent them a message asking “are you open today?” (It was bank holiday after all!) I received a reply saying “yes we are” I then drove for forty minutes with a one year old (who is half South African … I wanted him to experience his first braai shack) to arrive at the restaurant to see the doors closed and the lights off. We went in to the pub that is linked and they said “no they aren’t opening today” So, we returned home! Over an hour of driving for no reason, when I was told they were open. The Braai Shack have since gone silent and not even had the decency to offer me an apology!

What a gem of a place, we went with our South African friends on a Saturday night. This was first time visiting for all of us. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our friends ordered us an array of starters to try, all were lovely and tasty. Can't remember what we all ordered but my husband had ribs and they were the biggest plate of ribs of ever seen! All our main courses tasted great but we couldn't finish them. We also had desert and South African drinks, we couldn't fault the service,food or restaurant. There was a brilliant atmosphere in the restaurant and we would highly recommend a visit. Our South African friends said the food tasted authentic. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Absolutely shocking. Waited over 50 mins for 2 breakfasts. When they finally came the waitress kept holding the hot plate over my 8 months old head (luckly my child didn’t look up otherwise would of hit her head) we had bits of our breakfast missing and then she continued to hold plates over said child head. The food was all freezing cold only the plate was hot. The waitress was quite rude Will not ever be returning.

Really want share our experience of today being at this restaurant. First we is me and my partner book a table early in the morning and we preordered 2 Bushman. So been waiting for this new experience as my partner never tried before different meat.so we arrived to the restaurant was very nice welcome from the employee she took us to the table which was all set as we preorder. Is don’t take a log for drinks order and just repeat the order. I specifically ask if is not crocodile in the mix meat Bushman she said no. So we order. 1h later my partner standup yo ask where is the dinner he was completely ignored by the all stuff till he actually go next to the kitchen to ask where is the food. So finally he get attention and one of staff told him is coming. 1.30h later finally Donny start bringing on the table. First arrived the Bushman all meat cut in tiny pieces all around meat is brown colour as precooked from microwave on defrosting sausage half cooked again microwaved short way is all microwaved food. And get even better second dish arrives and is only crocodile when i specifically ask not to bring on the table. So I ask what Is this waitress sad is you order and I said I didn’t order and she said I’m waiting for the another bushman. Then she run so her colleague and ask for help soon the colleague with waitress arrives start argument with us telling that we order crocodile even we preorder in the morning now we have to pay for this. Keep telling us how expensive meat is what we didn’t order. So finally bring me another bushman which looks much better then my partner one (after 2h.) But they (staff) continue arguing with us that we have to pay for crocodile. I Standup up and told them you that they are rolling my evening they start Beverly aggressive so I walk away. My part left money for just drinks and we left this restaurant. Been shouting a front of all customers and stuff to pay item we not even order. We left very hungry so went straight to any open restaurant and we ended in harvester lake site and we quick and amazing service. The restaurant need to been avoided as is Terrible service, expensive meat defrosting in microwave so rude staff will not recommend to anyone please stay away from this restaurant!
