Warm and cosy. Great food. Had Sunday lunch here before, which was very tasty and not shy on the portions. This time we dined on a Saturday evening. Dishes included,to start, fishcakes, arancini and soup of the day. Mains, homemade burger, homemade pie, catch of the day, all with plenty of sides. Everyone throughly enjoyed what they ate, and again portions more than ample. Good selection of local drinks. Service was very polite and attentive. Will be dining here again and would recommend.

Been here three times recently, Caroline was our server on two occasions who was quite attentive, hence leaving a good tip even though service charge was already added to bill. We just visited again on Saturday 31 April 2022 and Ollie was our server…we left him a tip even though he wasn’t particularly attentive but hopefully he’ll remember to check guests have drinks, water etc. The atmosphere here is great and the food generally pretty good. I definitely recommend the fish cakes for starters…absolutely gorgeous and the salad it came with was super fresh and the salad dressing was really nice (and I’m not normally a salad person). My husband had the ribs which he said were lovely. Think the tables could do with a really good clean…ours was a little sticky. Update on 23 January 2023: original review was four stars but now changed to one star. Went to lunch there today with my husband, no heating so we had to eat lunch in the cold (and it’s a very cold day today)…I felt a couple of the radiators and they were stone cold. Mentioned it to the server and she said “well it IS a very old building”! Also lots of the diners had brought their dogs with them and the woman on the table next to us had two dogs which sat and stared at us throughout our main course while she talked loudly and non-stop to the person with her. Really awful dining experience and I doubt I will ever return.

Brought my friend visiting from Sweden here for dinner on a Saturday! Food was really nice, I had lamb which was incredible and my friend had the vegetarian mushroom burger however she thought it was rather bland unfortunately! Service was good until we’d had our food, after that there was no one at our section to ask if we wanted dessert for a long time and when they did arrive it was almost like they were shocked we wanted dessert but we had it, it was lovely and then to the pay situation, they cleared the table after the dessert and then we waited for someone to come with the bill for 45 min before we managed to get someone’s attention so I’m pleased with the experience but I’m a bit disappointed with the attention after the food was given if that makes sense?

Haven’t been here for a few years but went on Friday with family and had a really good meal. Son enjoyed his duck, daughter in law her risotto, my wife a kebab with ras el hanout and I had probably the best fish and chips I’ve had for a very very long time.. Generous portion, perfectly cooked and the lightest batter ever. My friends and I visited at lunchtime. I would recommend you reserve a table, as it was busy around 2.30 pm.i had the House 8oz burger, chips, and slaw. Chips were chunky, and overall, it was very filling. My friend had a beautiful homemade pie which was packed with meat and sat on a bed of mashed potato and vegetables plus a little pot of gravy. Another ordered the lamb but unfortunately, it was quite fatty and chewy. Great options of deserts available too. The pub has plenty of seats outside, some with umbrellas and great views with sheep grazing just a stone throw away. I would definitely visit here again. Service was great!

My wife had a pasta dish, but told me there was too much salt in it. I ordered a Chardonnay with lemonade and ice, but it tasted really bitter and horrible. I then ordered her a Rose and it tasted again horrible and bitter! Either the wines is too young or it's cheap wine. We are a bit disappointed tbh. My wife has eaten here before and no problems. The chips that were served with fish and chips were not cooked well! Burnt on outside and hard on inside! Will not be rushing back! Don’t mind paying a high price but it has to be good value! If you have a mix heritage family do not attend this place!! This is the second time I have experience what can only be the describe as blatent racism which seems to a very common theme at the Botley Hill Farmhouse. My 6 year daughter was verbally abused and repeatedly shouted at on xmas day by a customer and her husband for watching a santa video on my phone whilst waiting for our Christmas Dinner!! My daughter was in floods of tears on Christmas day because of these ignorant, disgraceful, uneducated racist people. Grown adults have no right to shout, make racist comments nor make any physical contact with other peoples children but it seems like the Botley think this behaviour from their customers is acceptable. We are absolutely disgraced at the way this matter was dealt with and how despite seeing what was going on staff appeared to think this was acceptable. Racism has no place in society and your pub is not exempt. The attitudes in this place toward mixed heritage families is like something out of the 1800s. To top it off food was tasteless normally the food is okay here but not today. It was not worth anywhere near the price of £120 a head. Unless you want your family to be discriminated against by the local drunks and for staff to stand by and think this is okay avoid this place. In response to your response: Firstly we have always been fully aware these customers were friends of yours that was always very clear to us. I feel like it’s taken you a few days to try to “collaborate” a response and paint a very different picture that is far from the truth. Instead of contacting me to apologise for the horrific prejudice, aggressive and intimidatory behaviour myself and my family experienced at your “establishment” I feel you appear to be more interested in trying to cover up the truth, defend yours and indeed your “friends/customers” reputation and behaviour towards children and indeed adults– this is further concerning. No care has been shown about the upset caused to my children and my family on Christmas Day at your “establishment” this in itself speaks volumes. You say you have contacted everyone – I find this very interesting as you have not contacted myself nor any members of my family - I feel that this is further discrimination. Your “friends/ customers” were not seated at an adjourning table as I feel you conveniently appear to wrongly allege; they were sat in a separate room from us. Your friends/ customers approached our table from a table in another room on 4 separate occasions and engaged in unlawful behaviour towards both children and adults on Xmas day - you were fully aware of this as I informed you and asked for you to please move them away from my children and my family on a number of occasions as they kept repeatedly coming over to our table behaving in this horrific manner. Feel free to consult your legal advisors but as well as quoting the truth I am also entitled to freedom of opinion and expression unless of course you are further trying to discriminate against me and think for some reason that I am not? I will not be intimidated, threatened nor silenced by your “establishment.” Sadly it appears you are not prepared to be transparent nor accountable however if you do take something from this for the sake of other families, no matter their heritage, please do not allow anyone to treat people (especially young children) in this manner. I would never ever want any other family to experience the discrimination, profiling, aggression and intimidation that we did. When you seek your legal advice i feel it may be wise to also ask them to explain your obligations as a business under GDPR legislation and the rights of data subjects too. Please feel free to have your legal advisors contact me and I will pass them onto my Barrister
