My coffee experience failed at the first hurdle. £4.95 for a flat white. A coffee that could be "enjoyed" over looking a dusty car park, or from a hard looking interior with no atmosphere whatsoever. This is just nonsense. From two previous experiences I had looked forward to sitting on the balcony overlooking the vineyard. What a let down. I believe it is a legal requirement for traders to display prices. Then is none on show for consumers to make an informed decision.

My friend and I enjoyed a charcuterie board for lunch . As it was such a hot day , we ate indoors . We decided to have a coffee afterwards , outside , at a table under a very large sun umbrella . Half way through our coffee , there was a very gentle breeze , and the umbrella came crashing down , as did our neighbouring table's one ! One staff member came out and basically said , that shouldn't have happened ! Not good enough . At the next table there was a child about two , who was screaming ! The umbrella was large enough to severely hurt someone .

The cafe at Bolney Vineyard has been a regular stopping place for us whenever heading north from Hove. The view from the upstairs balcony was most enjoyable. Now the cafe has been moved downstairs and the view is of a carpark. AND the price of coffee is extortionate, just under £10 for two coffees. No, we won't be coming again.

Always suspect a venue that answers every review. It may well deter honest entries, but here goes. This one is for the upstairs bit of the Bolney winery, the restaurant. Starting with the good bits, all three small plates were fine. Had we stuck with that, maybe the meal would have worked. Also good was the bottle of sparkling rose, the vintage cuvee, although why any restaurant, let alone a winery restaurant, wouldn't automatically have a wine list on the table, is puzzling. We had to ask. On the not so good, main courses, plaice and pork belly, were overcooked. The local pub does better. On wine, the vineyard's own Pinot Noir just confirms that this grape is not yet a great source of red wine in the UK. Other growers produce more drinkable alternatives with different grape varieties. The two red wine drinkers opted in instead for the French red wine. A much better choice. The bacchus also confirmed that Bolney's pursuit of quantity has not been a success, even if it brings down prices. The final issue is with service, with three or four people wandering around with little apparent coordination. Friendly enough, but with delays in getting attention, that missing wine list, which kept disappearing, and no attempt to sell coffee, and delays in getting drinks requiring a reminder of two glasses ordered. The French red may have been on the list, but, after some staff conversation, it had to be fetched from downstairs. It just about made it to the table to join the food. This is not the "fine dining" on offer in some other vineyard restaurants we have visited. More like so so pub grub with a view of vines that produce mostly so so wines.

We went recently for afternoon tea. Not great value £40 a head which is a similar price to the Grand Brighton but nowhere near as good. Very ordinary sandwiches, nice scones, cakes were not refined piece of sponge, brownies, no delicate individual patisserie. So disappointing on the whole A small glass of sparkling rose was served early on but frankly we would rather have had a decent cup of tea. Which we did get eventually. Any preference for coffee was extra. Not great value for money, sorry.

I found the service poor and the food pricey. I arrived yesterday 23 October with three cycling friends; I had a coffee and cinnamon whirl - £8.44. When the waitress tended our table I asked what the odd 44p was all about as it was an odd amount and she told me it was for the discretionary service charge and she went on to tell me that there was a sign up that this was charged. All four of us failed to see any sign and would have declined such a charge given the choice as the prices are so expensive anyway it would be ridiculous to add on a service charge. The normal method I have seen is when paying an option is given to add a service charge but this did not happen. I have no idea how much the service charge is but we were not offered a refund even after one of us protested that this was very unfair. We did not press the issue but I did note that when we left and I gave my customary goodbye this fell on deaf ears. I should also add that my cinnamon whirl was heated and yet I prefer tham cold but was not given an option so this too was very bad

I love this restaurant. My son held his sons blessing here and the food and staff are always excellent. I have visited many times for brunch and lunch so I choose it to hole a birthday lunch. We booked ahead and requested a nice table. It was the hottest day of the year and was actually disappointed with our table. The main thing that spoilt the lunch was the intense heat. One member of the party has MS and extreme heat is not good for her. No one can help the weather but there was obviously air con in the restaurant but it was not switched on. The air con was on in the cafe below? I do understand that the windows were open but maybe close all but one. The heat spoilt the lunch. Also I have been on 2 occasions lately and I experienced the same thing. The bill was £200 - the food excellent but PLEASE PUT THE AIR CON ON!

We visited a couple of months ago for a very enjoyable wine & cheese tasting & tour. We noticed the beautiful cafe terrace overlooking the vines and came back today for a tasty brunch. Despite the poor weather and having to sit indoors we weren’t at all disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff the moment we approached the entrance, the service was great and friendly throughout, right through until you leave via the shop (picking up some tasty treats!). Expensive brunch but worth it.

Fantastic location for lunch however I think 2 courses or 3 courses are a better option than the current menu options . For example Chicken Caesar salad is a main dish not a starter , what happens your eating that as a starter and your partner wants a burger so your eating separately as his is classed as a main? . I would change this menu's set up if it was my restaurant. The customer care was excellent and the setting perfect.

Really love this place, it has a magical setting with consistently helpful service from its super team. But disappointed by the very limited menu of sharing platters this time. I’d rung ahead to check if we should book & was told then the menu was smaller but still had a number of choices. Not the case. Happy to be flexible - Bolney is going through change right now - but maybe offer a couple more options which are more filling and better value?

My second visit to this outstanding cafe. The veggie full English was fantastic, a beautifully cooked, generously proportioned plate of hot food. A special shout-out for the serving team that balances friendliness with efficiency. As before, we also enjoyed views of the vineyard and several cups of tasty coffee. Only gripe was the unexplained noise during part of our visit, it was very loud (building works apparently). Maybe put a simple printed explanation on each table to explain and gently apologise for any disruptions?

Where to start with this classy cafe. Its setting within the vineyard is perfect - well-signposted with plenty of parking. Before we even got there the team was super helpful, with Kate answering access queries quickly and reserving us a lovely table for peace of mind. And on arrival this fantastic service continued, honestly I can’t recommend everyone in the team highly enough. They struck a balance of being professional, helpful and also friendly. The breakfast menu and coffee were equally good - we were spoilt for choice and I suspect any option would be delicious. Our freshly cooked food arrived hot and beyond-tasty. Highly recommend.

Visited for lunch and had a table overlooking the vines. A great option was the ability to have some of the Bolney wines with your meal as they have a wine flight (3 small glasses) which can be a combination of any of the wines available, including sparkling. Food was very good and there was a good choice including specials. Service was warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Overall a great lunch and certainly worth a visit.

Can’t believe I’ve lived in Sussex for over a decade and never visited this absolute gem! Enjoyed a wonderful brunch with friends - delicious food especially the smoked salmon and scrambled egg on sour dough. Wouldn’t be complete without a glass of Bolney Mimosa: Bolney Classic Cuvée topped up with fresh orange juice! Staff were brilliant and received an engaging and warm welcome before being shown to our table where the service was brilliant. Setting was wonderful with fab views across the vineyard - can’t wait to return in the summer months where I’m sure dining al fresco on the balcony will be a great experience. Will definitely return and excited to bring the family back for Sunday lunch.

Had a family lunch here which was excellent value given the high standard of venue, food and service. The food was excellent - pork belly cooked well with seared cabbage and very good jus was a highlight. Good fish and chips with lovely tartare sauce. Also a very decent burger (but you had to like onion!). The atmosphere was just right, mixing an informality with sophistication in a way that felt much more like a French country restaurant than anything British. Service was friendly, but not expert (specials board not pointed out, several duplicate questions and no offer of coffee). However this did not detract from an overall very good experience.

We visited the restaurant recently with some friends as part of a trip which also included the nearby Sussex Prairie Garden. Some of the diners were on vineyard tours but it's a nice location in its own right. We had the dog and having pre-booked we were given an indoor seat. I confess it was a surprise as I'd thought it was only dog friendly on the terrace. But good we now have the choice. It wasn't too busy on the day we visited though we've previously come by on spec and not been able to get in. So I'd definitely recommend booking. The staff were friendly and we had a good welcome. The food was excellent. Three of us had the "ploughman's" which was a lovely selection of terrine, cold meats, cheeses, salad, etc. All very nicely thought through and fairly substantial. The fishcakes with poached egg was also well received. Being a sunny summer day, we had a bottle of Bolney's own sparking rose which went down well. A very nice lunch. It was a first time for our friends and they are already planning a return trip.

Service was a little slow as it wasn’t busy but staff were nice. The soup was nice but missed a crusty roll or a doorstop, the small bits of brown bread were disappointing. The cheese board consisted of four small bits of only two types of cheese accompanied by chutney and the same disappointing 3 bits of thin brown bread, no crackers or anything. Definitely not worth the price (or the wait). Crackers and cheese are not expensive items, seems odd to let guests down by being a bit stingy?

We use the Bolney cafe regularly and have some great breakfast with Coffee or Tea. This week a group breakfast of friends took advantage of the good service and accommodation. However some feedback for the owners that if you take a booking for more than 10 persons then you may need more staff. None on my team made any comments while we were there but the wait from the first to be served to the last was not really acceptable. Several persons eggs were well over cooked and the beans not hot. At least two of the group had to ask more than once for their hot drinks. Before we went up we asked that they be organised with the bills being made available separately for each person or couple. When some of the group went to pay it seemed a issue with the Manager and some frustration was observed. I will still visit for our coffees And breakfast but feel in small groups this is still one of the best breakfast venue's.

Lovely settings for a great afternoon tea, pre-booked and mine was presented with replacements for the cheese items as I have a cheese intolerance. Accompanied with Prosecco, which was really good. We were tempted to purchase some bottles to take home. Hope to get the opportunity to go again

We attended the estate to look at the wines and vineyard but, looking at the restaurant and the great views over the vineyard, decided to stay for lunch. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Simon the manager, who I believe has only...

Went here with a view to doing the vineyard walk but unfortunately the vines had been sprayed so could not do it, fortunately decided to go to the cafe and were surprised how good the food was. Contrary to other reviews we thought the limited menu was great and as the food is prepared fresh it was even better. Will be back again.

Its nicely placed up on a balcony overlooking the vineyard. The menu is either deliberately retro (strange fonts, faded inkjet printer) or put together by someone with no concern for appearances (seems more likely). Huge numbers of staff working there.

Love to support local businesses especially ones producing such lovely wines. Food mediocre to poor and really was a very small portion. White wine was served warm and the sparkling red had run out.

Booked a tour and lunch for boyfriends birthday and turned into a disaster. The tour was great, we had a lovely guide called John Rawlings. However, we decided to eat here. The food is extortionate prices for what it is. Decided to have the shepherds pie which came in a soup cup completely filled with oil and water so had to be sent back. I then decided to have the duck breast salad which cost £11.00! Just a bag of rocket, some tomatoes and four pathetic bits of duck breast. It ruined his birthday surprise and they certainly need a new chef asap. Such a shame as it is a lovely setting but their cafe is letting them down enormously. Waitresses were very attentive and apologetic but the food needs to be as good as the wine! Just stick to tours and buying the wine!

We stopped for a late breakfast, bacon sandwich just served on a plate? Salad nicoise, price on menu £11. Salad consisted of salad leafs, 2 cherry tomatoes, a few olives, half an egg, and about 2 ounces of salmon, total cost at the most £2, it's a shame that the food does not, live up to the setting, staff were, great

We stopped for lunch after a wine tour and tasting. The tour was interesting, we learnt a lot about the vinyards history and vine cultivating, we tried 3-4 wines abd they were delightful too. We stopped for lunch and it was slightly disappointing, the bread was not fresh, the cheese was average, the cold meats selection was ok plus some ghurkins and olives and chutney. It was of a supermarket standard not quite a country treat... shame as lovely setting with a view over the vinyard... opt for a local pub lunch next time.

A perfect location for a coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. Outside seating for the perfect Sussex setting on fine days. The addition of the Post Office some mornings is a perfect excuse to stop by and linger.

Popped in here for a bacon and sausage baguette. Was very disappointed in the baguette. I expected more in it for the money I paid. Which with a coke was over 7 pound and all I got was 1 sausage and one and a bit rasher of bacon. Not value for money in my opinion.
