Sadly this was one of the worst experiences ever. On our Thursday arrival we were told that there was no room for us despite us booking with Buy a Gift.com and contacting the hotel directly to ask if we could have a late check out on Saturday. The bar man called the boss and gave us a complimentary drink. The boss found that it was in deed their error and dates had been transferred from one computer to another incorrectly. Although they were full she assured us that she could move her daughters boyfriend from his room in 15 mins. Oh my goodness....the room! No lights in the bathroom, long hairs in the sink, an absolutely filthy shower and no towels. The drawer still had the gentleman's items in and the TV didn't work. The tea tray was half prepared, the mirror was filthy , cobwebs hung from the ceiling and there were just 2 very flat mismatched pillows. My husband went down to try to rectify this. Two pillows were found and 2 very thin grey towels. My dog towels are better. the TV could not be fixed and we found our own tea tray things in the dining room. The following morning did not fare better. At 8.15am there was no cooked breakfast on offer as advertised. There were no clean cups, no knives or clean spoons, a small amount of instant coffee in the bottom of the jar and very thin poor quality white and brown bread. I went into the kitchen where 4 members of staff were standing chatting including the boss. The boss agreed that our stay had been unacceptable and agreed that we could leave and refunded the cost equal to the Buy a gift card.

Rooms are standard and functional. The fact that it is a pub is a bonus as the food and drinks are great value and you get a great choice. Only issue was the traffic noise during the early hours of the morning in certain rooms.

The Boar's Head is a lovely old Victorian pub, with loads of character. Our room had been freshly decorated and was clean. At check-in, we were shown to our room but not given any other information about how to get back into the building when returning late at night or what time breakfast would be served. When we returned from our social event that night, the building was locked. We could hear voices and music from inside, but despite ringing two doorbells and banging on the door, we could not get in. In the end, my partner climbed in through a ground floor open window, and the staff member in duty came to open the door. The same staff member was having a lock-in with friends. Unfortunately, our room was above the pool room and it was very noisy. At 3am, I went down to the pool room and pointed out that we were trying to sleep. I tried to be accommodating and said to the staff member that if he wasn't going to curtail his partying, we'd move to another room. I was pretty gobsmacked when he went to check whether there was a room we could move to! There wasn't another room so we had to put up with the noise until the partygoers ran out of steam. Breakfast was good, though!

For value for money this is a brilliant hotel. So pleased with the experience. The room was a good size with en suite that had a nice shower. They included shower gel etc and towels, which was fantastic. They even include a complementary breakfast, which is a nice bonus. Location was good for us. The on site car park was very small and always full whilst here, but there is a free car park minutes away that was absolutely fine. All in all for the price paid a brilliant stay.

Easy check in at the bar. We were shown to our room upstairs. Dangerously dark stairwell with an automatic light that comes on once you have scrambled your way to the top. very olde worlde pub with some lovely features. Room comfortable and a good size. Shower grubby and mouldy. The room wasnt serviced so no tea and coffee top up after 1st night. Breakfast time an absolute shambles. Waiter 30 minutes and no sign of any staff. My mother and brother even managed to get into the kitchen in their search for someone to take our order where the cooked breakfast items lay open on the counter already pre cooked and waiting heating up. poor choice of continental breakfast. 2nd day there were 14 people eating breakfast and it was farcical having to constantly ask for items to be replenished and no staff present to help! I honestly expected Ant and Dec to jump out qa part of a set up. Someone had to go out to the shops to get bread for toast. Surely a busy breakfast on bank holiday sunday would have warranted having bread in ready!!! Shambolic which is a shame as it could be an excellent establishment with a bit more care and attention.

Room was basic but very clean with a on-suite bathroom, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Came with breakfast which was a full English along with a choice of bread juice etc, all very good quality. Had a couple of drinks in the bar one night really nice staff happy to chat. Stayed here last night in room 10 after visiting the Magical Woodland at Blakemere Village. Check in to check out was as smooth as could possibly wish for - No messing round - spoke to a nice girl at the bar who showed us to our room after giving our name, breakfast order sheets given to us with plenty to choose from (Full English was delicious!). Room didn't look anything like the hotels website but this is not a bad thing - the room was lovely and had a refurb by the looks of things. Plenty of room for 2 people, lots of lighting and a modern bathroom - most of all it was very clean! Have been on a little roadtrip lately staying at a few different hotels (Including Ruthin and Peckforton Castle) but this bed was hands down the comfiest we have stayed in, I went out like a light and even debated skipping breakfast as I was so comfy (Glad I didn't, the Scran was amazing and set us up for the day). Check out was simple - gave the keys to the housekeeper and said our goodbyes to two ladies. Overall at £60 for a Saturday night with Brekkie and lovely hospitality then i can assure you this place is absolute value for money. If we are ever in the area again then this will be our go to. Side note: was talking to Liz and Ange when we was leaving and happened to mention we have just had a new back garden bar built - we were then gifted some glasses/runners and an amazing Sign Board to take home! It's the small things that make amazing memories - Honestly book this place and you won't be dissapointed!

Nice hotel right next to the main road which as others have said is quite noisy. We arrived at about 7pm and were shown to our room by the friendly lady who was serving behind the bar, the room was small but functional with a shower, no bath. Decided to try the bar for our evening meal which was very nice and well presented. Breakfast on the Sunday did not start until 9:30 which meant it was a bit of a rush as we had to be away by 10:00 but this again was a good meal with pots of tea or coffee available.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS I only gave 1 star so I could leave a review - it doesn't deserve it! We booked in good faith x2 double rooms in March to stay at this hotel in June, we received a confirmation and the money paid taken out of our account the next day. Due to restrictions not opening up as expected on 21 June I called the hotel on the Friday before to be told that they had no booking (despite the booking confirmation and money debited). I sent 2 messages, one at lunchtime and one in the evening to which I had no response. I called the hotel on Saturday to be told the landlady would not speak to me but said to confirm there were no rooms available. I asked if that was the case, regardless of the fact that we booked through their booking agent, could we have a refund. I was promised that she would speak to her booking agent and call me back in an hour. No phone call came at all. I tried again on Monday (5 days before we should be staying there) without success so managed to find out who the booking agents were and their contact number. They shouldn't have helped but given the lack of responses took pity on us and managed to speak to her and obtain a refund which took 5 days to be returned. Not one apology for the disgraceful way we had been treated even though we had stayed there many times before but we definitely won't be staying there again and nor will our friends. We managed to locate another hotel to stay with. On our visit we were told by a few people that they had received a wedding booking so ignored those already booked in to accommodate them. We have other friends who book in there but would not do so given the lack of service or apology. Informing us that there were no rooms wouldn't be as bad if she had helped with the refund. In March she would have received a notification of the booking and was happy to take our money but not to refund it. I would advise people to be very careful when booking into this hotel as your booking may not be honoured.

Definitely not up to modern standards! I suppose you could call it 'olde worlde' as the fixtures and fittings are all original ie Victorian. There is a beautiful mosaic tiles floor in the bar. The lighting is dim . However, don't be put off visiting for a drink because the beer is well kept, staff helpful and friendly. I believe they do do catering but no idea of when or where they serve meals. I obviously can't vouch for the quality! It's quite a large venue with several large rooms surrounding the bar. They were setting up one room for a child's party when I visited. They have rooms available I believe.

On Wednesday 04/09/2019 we ( a party of four adults) visited The Boars Head In Middlewich, Cheshire, CW100JE. The restaurant’s interpretation of the Meerkat 2 for 1 offer is that the cheapest ITEM is free and not the cheapest MEAL free. So as each of my party had ordered a starter and a main course i.e. eight items of food, we had the four starters free as these were a lot cheaper than the main courses. Thus we had to pay for four main courses, the cost of which worked out much more than if we had only paid for two starters and two mains. This extra cost from what our understanding of the 2 for 1 offer should be, put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable meal.

Not a plush place by any means down stairs but friendly enough. My only gripe is the noise from the traffic from about 5am with all the empty trucks rattling past the window. You'll never need an alarm clock! I've stayed here 6 times and it's the same every time. Could really use some double glazing! Other than that it's great value for business trips, they're not trying to be posh n prissy, and if you can live with that it's ok.

Very poor customer service and indifferent staff. We ordered two meals and were told there would be a wait (fair enough). One meal arrived with no mention of when second would turn up. After a good few mins I asked one of the wait staff would my omelette arrive soon. I was told “probably “ I did comment that this wasn’t helpful and was told they were very busy. After about another 10 minutes it did turn up. The omelette was cold but the chips were hot. The omelette had to obviously been waiting a good while for the chips. It also had a side salad on the plate although I said I didn’t want it. I didn’t complain but we didn’t stay for cake as we had planned.

Amazing food beautiful surroundings. Lovely little beer garden outside. Staff were great. Place has quite a bit of history too! Even pleased the mother-in-law! We WILL back **Update** The mother-in-law insisted we went again and I'm really glad we did. Both food and service were excellent. This will be our go to restaurant when we're in the area! (This place should be known further afield maybe it is and I'm a neanderthal.)

It was a sunny afternoon & we wanted a canal-side pub. This was perfect! Had a great lunch at a reasonable price. Sat by the canal & watched the locks in operation as a narrow boat passed through. Will visit again!
