Blue Island in Southampton

Our first visit and we will definitely return! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in and the service throughout was impeccable. The selection of dips were really tasty and we had lovely warm pittas. The accompanying salad was excellent - big chunks of high quality feta and plenty of ripe tomatoes and olives. We enjoyed all the dishes, potentially our favourites being the stuffed vine leaves and chicken, but it was hard to choose. We really liked the decor, you feel like you are in a real restaurant, not a chain. Very reasonably priced and a great location for a pre-show meal at the Guildhall.

A classic taverna, informal atmosphere, family friendly, good for couples and small groups.

There was a bit of an attitude with the staff when I walked in for some reason. It was also made clear that I needed cash as they don’t have a card machine. I didn’t want to go and pay to take cash out at the news agent as suggested, so didn’t eat here. It’s 2024 and it’s a restaurant that doesn’t have a card machine, makes me quite suspicious.

What could have been a nice evening was ruined when presented with a piece of paper with hand written account details on as they do not accept any credit or debit cards, only cash or bank transfers. Who carries cash these days? So spent 10 minutes trying to do online transfer. What a load of rubbish. Avoid.

It’s a second visit here & both times were amazing. A warm welcome , delicious food that just kept coming & lovely atmosphere. The lady serving our table was really lovely. Thankyou x

It's a Greek home-style restaurant. The food feels like a home-cooked meal. The cold meze is boring because of repeated garnish of tomatoes, salad leaves, and cucumbers. The warm meze was much more delicious. Katrina, the staff, is friendly. However, this restaurant need more improvement. First, I couldn't understand why the lights were blue. All the food looked weird bluish, so I didn't get any appetite at all. The second one, the cleanliness was terrible. I visited as the first guest of the dinner and a broken red artificial nail was left unattended under my table. The facilities are also outdated, so if you want a good atmosphere, it's absolutely not recommend. Finally, this restaurant only accepts cash. I think it's probably to promote tax evasion. It sounds like the card terminal is broken only today, but it seems to be an excuse that always comes up when there is no monitor, given that there is a proper information sign.

Excellent food and flavours. Just a bit quiet but Thursday in November worse social month in a calendar year. Definitely will return

Love this little gem of a place. Lovely staff, great service and the food is excellent. Have got the mixed meze twice now. £25 per person for more food than we could eat. Delicious grilled meats, warm pitta with homemade dips, greek salad etc. Will definitely be back!

Blue Island is the best Greek restaurant in the area. Sotiros is such a lovely person and always welcoming and remembers us every time we come in. 1000% recommended trying his food if you haven't already. Also the only greek restaurant in the area to do the traditional Koupepia (Dolmades) with meat in. Can't wait for our next meal ☺️😋

Well I can say that after visiting the Blue island I love Greek food! I took my father there for his birthday and we were treated like royalty. Lovely atmosphere and gorgeous food so I would definitely recommend a visit.

We were a week ago with my family. We were passing through the city and found it by chance. An absolute gem, authentic treatment by the couple who run it and absolutely fantastic food. Recommended 100%. Greetings from your Barcelona fans!!!

Rated in the top 10 in Southampton. Really? The first thing you will be met with is a notice that it is a cash or money transfer only restraunt. No credit cards wanted. The food was mediocre. Tasty but I was expecting more. No rice or Greek potatoes offered. No pita bread and dips with the meal. Portions were adequate . Be careful if you use the toilets.They are on the second floor and the stairs are steep.

An excellent little gem serving wonderful food and the photos make you dream of long sunny Greek days.

Booked to go on a Wednesday. It was a lovely place, very relaxed, very friendly, lovely atmosphere. A gem in the centre of town. Ordered the meze for two and it was fantastic. So much variety and great tasting fresh food. So much that I couldn't actually finish and I am a big eater. We took a doggy bag home. I would honestly say to anyone to speed an evening here. Well priced as well. We shall return. Lovely front of house lady and a great chef . Very impressed

Blue Island was like a quick visit to a Greek island

We love the Greek islands, and this place makes us feel like we're back there. A combination of restaurant decor, friendly Greek hospitality and generous portions of authentic Greek food. This place is a gem, and one of our go to's for before seeing a show at the mayflower. The food is always fresh and full of flavour. This time I had the buyourdi to start, and a mixed souvlaki (pork and chicken) as main. The saganaki to start is a firm favourite too. Another option is the meze (requires a minimum of 2 people) which is offers great value and enables you to try most of the dishes on the menu (do mention if there's anything specific you don't like, and they'll serve an alternative for that dish), but it's definitely a great option if you're not sure what to choose; taking this option you'll be sure to find you favourite for next time you visit!

Absolutely LOVE that Greek restaurant. The food is succulent,with a real feel of the authentic Greek cuisine. The meze is delicious and there's so much to eat! Really a restaurant I would recommend! Cons - no air conditioning in the restaurant so it does get pretty hot in there in the summer

We went on a Tuesday, special offer on a meze. So much food. Not enough space on the table for all the dishes lol. Couldn't eat fast enough. Highly recommend. Restaurant won't like me saying this but for four people you probably only need to order for three. Only £18 each for food.

Lovely little restaurant, been here a couple of times now and got the mezze both times. Their prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I hadn’t tried feta cheese before going here but now I love the stuff! The meat (chicken, pork and lamb) was all extremely tasty, very flavourful. I’m not a huge fan of tomato so didn’t have those dishes, but my partner loved them. If you get the mezze, don’t fill up on the pitta bread as there is lots more delicious food to come!

The food is delicious, the service amazing and the restaurant is very cozy with a Mediterranean vibe. Love the place. I strongly recommend it. My advice is you book your table in advance

Friends of mine were looking for somewhere different to have a meal to celebrate a birthday, so I recommended Blue Island and they were not disappointed. We all had the lamb kleftiko which was excellent. Even with the covid restrictions in place it felt relaxed and friendly.They were more than happy with my recommendation thanks Simon and Christina for the great atmosphere and a warm welcome as usual.

If u are missing your greek holidays go to this restaurant the food is wonderful. The owner is like every greek person i have ever met so friendly and warm. And all the staff are brilliant. When u go inside thr restaurant you would think you were somewhere in any greek resort. Love this place we will be coming back again and again

It was great to be back at the Blue Island again on Saturday after lockdown. The food was better than ever and it was lovely to see Simon and Christina again. There was a wonderful atmosphere and the food was delicious. It's always of a very high quality. We had the prawns, calamari and mushrooms to start and then the moussaka and chicken souvlaki. Simon's sauces are divine and everything is so beautifully presented. We come back time and again because the food and the service - Justina! - is exceptional.

So good to visit Blue Island again and so good seeing how busy it was. It was great seeing Simon and Christina again after such a long time....always such a lovely welcome. Food as always was amazing. We may not get to Greece this year but this little gem in Southampton really transports you to the beautiful Greek Islands.....the best food and the most welcoming people xx

I've eaten at Blue Island many times, and it's always a really high quality meal.On this occasion, that's insufficient praise!The Stifado (beef) was tender and full of flavour; all of the other meat dishes were merely excellent but the beef was truly outstanding.We had some vegetarians among us and their alternatives were also delicious.It was a shame to see the restaurant so empty but that's the sad reality with COVID-19. I hope that 2021 is a much better year for us all.

After lockdown it was wonderful to return to Southampton’s finest Greek Cypriot home cooking. Back we went for the homemade moussaka and souvlaki after a range of tasty starters. Thank you Simon and Christina as always. It was great to be back and to have such a treat.

We have arranged to meet friends in town for a quiet drink and decided to call back into Blue Island for something to eat we had not booked. But Simon always managed to fit us in. The 4 of us enjoyed a delicious meal, the food was top quality and it was great value for money, the perfect end to a good day out.

We have just got back from the most amazing meze and compliment of food. £20 a head and more top quality and authentic food than you could possibly eat. Lovely atmosphere and a real family feel. Such good value for money. We will definitely be back.

Had a great family meal at Blue Island on Wednesday. Lovely food – it was Meze night - good service and very sensible Covid precautions which made us feel very safe. Just £14 for a huge meze of fresh, interesting food which we inevitably couldn’t finish. It is good value at the normal price but on Meze night it is not to be missed. Surprised it wasn’t busier, this really is a very good Greek restaurant.

We visited here whilst in Southampton and were not disappointed. My wife who is a Greek food fan said it was the best Greek food she had had outside of Greece, and better than lots in Greece! Friendly staff and food to die for. We had the meze which was amazing and they just kept bringing the food out. Our children had the dolmades and the meatballs, and both were very generous portions.We will definitely return when we are in Southampton next, or we may even make a special trip!

My partner took me to try Greek meze for the first time tonight and there was not 1 dish I didnt enjoy. Amazing food and excellent service. Even the chef came out and spoke to us.

Hands down one of our favourite restaurants in Southampton. A dainty family-run restaurant with consistently great food, great service and generous portion. Would definitely recommend the meze which is great value for money and you get to try a bit of everything.

Mi favorito personal fue el kleftiko y el halloumi a la parrilla, DELICIOSO.¡Mi compañero y yo volveremos al 100% a Blue Island en nuestro regreso a Southampton!

We went to Blue Island for our date night and was blown away by the food. We had the Greek meze and it was gorgeous. There was so much food which was great value for money and we came out fully satisfied. I can’t wait to visit again. Thank you.

All excellent, we tried the special menu (for 2 people minimum, 20£ per person), where they will serve many Greek specialities, big portions, we could not finish it! Highly recommended!

Not the first time I have had lunch there, but definatly better than ever. Today I tried the stofafo, was magic. Generous portion of tender and tasty meat with rice. It was such a large portion that i could hardly finish it (but I did because it was amazing). We orderovely homemade dalmates as starter and my son and wife order chicken suvlaki as main which was also lovely. Forget about the external appearance of the restaurant,if you want real food,as you grandma would serve to you, go there. It will not let you down.

If you want to combine quality and quantity this is the restaurant you will enjoy the most!!! Proper Greek food, amazing taste, served on time!!! Very cheap prices compared to what you’re given!!!! If you love food you have to go to Blue Island restaurant and you will become a regular customer!!!

We five had the Mezze. It was absolutely fabulous! So much to choose from and plenty of it! Great restaurant and if the weather is balmy you really feel you are in Greece/Cyprus, One of my favourite places to eat in Southampton and for this month the Mezze is £14pp on Mon/Tues/Weds

What a gem this restaurant is. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. First visit since reopening after lockdown. Felt really safe with all precautions in place. A wonderful family restaurant that is so welcoming. The vegetarian meze is a fresh and delicious treat. My friends had the meat meze and raved about the Chicken Souvlaki and Kleftico. Somehow we made room for the homemade baklava. An absolute treat!

Had a wonderful experience at lunchtime today. We were served by Natalie who couldn’t do enough for us. They accommodated my son who couldn’t eat an adult portion so they made him up a special meal. The Mediterranean chicken was so succulent and the spices were amazing. A great value restaurant, friendly service and delicious food!

I am so pleased that Blue Island has re-opened after lockdown as I have missed the wonderful Greek food they serve.I visited recently and was not disappointed.I can recommend the mousakka which is my favourite Greek meal. The Blue Island make it just right. It is served with Greek salad and fries.I am glad that I skipped lunch as the portion size is substantial.As always we received a warm welcome from the owners Sotiris and Christina and were made to feel at home in the Greek way.A great evening out, with great food at a reasonable price.Many thanks.Can't wait to go again.

This was our first visit to the Blue Island - what a little gem! The food was outstanding, presented well with good portions. Social distancing was in place but it didn’t feel clinical at all. Greek music playing in the background, lovely Greek pictures hanging, added to the classic blue and white Greek ambience. Christina, her husband and their staff were very friendly, efficient and attentive. One point to note that payment is cash only at the moment.We will definitely be going back very soon!

What a fabulous piece of Greek heaven in Southampton! We visited Blue Island for a very special family occasion on Friday and it couldn’t have been better! The food was divine and so much of it. The service was faultless. The place was clean and inviting. It really is a gem. Great location for public transport - an all round winner! I can’t wait to visit again. Visited this Greek Taverna on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed. This simple taverna is much like you would get in Cyprus or a Greek Island. The menu is full of delights such as Saganaki (fried cheese), Kleftico and Moussaka. I had the meat balls (keftedes) as a starter, they were delicious and the sauce very flavourful, served with warm pitta bread. I followed this with Moussaka, served with chips and Greek salad. It was very tasty and reminded me of meals in Cyprus. I finished with ice cream and baklava, which was really yummy. I had Mythos Greek beer with my dinner. The restaurant has good Covid precautions in place but done in as unobtrusive way as possible. If you like proper Greek food, then this is the place to go. One other table of 4 had the Meze, and the variety and food going out looked excellent as well as plentiful. They left with a huge carrier bag of boxes as a ‘doggy bag’ !Thank you for a great evening

Great to see Blue Island opened after lockdown, the meal was excellent as usual and even with social distance there was still a good atmosphere there, nice to start getting life back to normal.

What a great evening back at the Blue Island after lockdown. Everything had been re-organised to accomodate social distancing between tables and good hygeine measures. Sanitiser stations at the entrance and by the kitchen. Waitresses in masks and gloves. It was all very reassuring and meant that we could enjoy Simon's food once again which was more delicious than we remembered!! The calamari was divine as was the kleftico and souvlaki. It was great to be back. Recommend booking for the time being.

Visited tonight and had the most wonderful authentic Greek food. Tender and delicious souvlaki, huge prawns, grilled halloumi and many other dishes in the meze. The service was friendly, relaxed and felt like I was in Cyprus! Also served a very nice Jack and coke!

In a place like Southampton where it is filled with food chains, Blue Island is the authentic food you need in your life. The traditional greek food on the Meze menu is unbelievable, the souvlaki and meatball being the highlight dishes for me.The staff are friendly and welcoming, making the whole Blue Island experience at 10/10.

We had lunch in this beautiful corner of Grece, great food and at very good price. Love it. We had the special menu, kind of set menu with all the speciality. Superb!

We had planned to have our birthday gathering at your restaurant. One of our party is a wheelchair user. We checked out your front entrance and it has a huge step so we are going somewhere else instead. You are breaking the law on “service providers must make adjustments to accommodate disabled people”. This law came in in 2010. Shame on you. If you don’t get this sorted, I will take this matter further!

I booked a table on a Saturday night to try with my husband. The business seems to be family run so it gives you a very homely feeling, in combination with a rather small seating area. The waitress was very kind and helpful. We tried the meze specials so we were given several platters to enjoy, like tzatziki, humus, Greek salad, lamb skewers, pita bread, small spinach pies etc. It was absolutely delicious, that we couldn’t fit anything else in our stomachs, so the owner who is the sweetest man, thought that we didn’t like the food he made us and we just explained we were super full, so they packed the rest of our meal to take at home. Most Greek restaurants outside of Greece do not live up even close to the original Greek cuisine ( which is the case with many restaurants offering foreign cuisine in other countries) but I think this is the closest I have eaten from the Greek restaurants I have visited in Sotton. I will definitely come back but with more people to be able to eat all the platters haha!

The decor in this little white and blue restaurant is very much like many you would find in Cyprus or Greece. The food is very good with a menu of Grecian staples.We all had the kleftiko which was melt-in-the-mouth delicious, following on from different starters of houmous, taromasalata and lounza with halloumi. Apart from the cold red wine, everything was great. Don't forget to bring cash as they don't take cards.

On a recent visit to The Mayflower Theatre we came upon a real find in Blue Island, a family run Greek restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely waitress who explained how the menu worked.Over a glass of chilled Rose wine and tasty olives we made our choice.Beautifully cooked Calamari followed by an authentic homemade Moussaka and Greek Salad. Both quite delicious.If you find yourself in this area of Southampton either for shopping or the theatre, do give this gem a try. You will not be disappointed!

The food is of exceptional quality regardless of the affordable prices. I can only speculate that their profit margin is narrow as you could tell they use top quality ingredients. Very good and very hospitable staff.

I am always recommending Blue Island to others - in my opinion, it is the best Greek food I have ever eaten. Everything is authentic and so delicious. Classic Greek dishes at the best quality, the loveliest staff who will do everything to make you comfortable and take care of you throughout your visit. I am always so impressed even after many visits. It is amazing value for money. The Meze night is incredible, with great Greek entertainment and music in keeping with the authentic style of the restaurant.

Decided to visit Blue Island for our wedding anniversary as this is our favourite restaurant in Southampton. It was a quiet Tuesday night...but Christina and Simon made us feel like VIPs....food as always was the best ever but even better was the fantastic service and hospitality we received. This is a family business and beats the chain restaurants by miles..you really feel like you have been invited to a friend's home..I cannot recommend highly enough. We've been coming here for a few years now and never get tired of it. We have been for romantic dinners and for family dinners and every time the food, atmosphere and service are amazing. Its always so welcoming at the Blue Island. I had the stifado on Saturday night which was so tender and flavoured beautifully and my partner had the souvlaki. We always ring ahead to make sure we get a table. Simon and Christina and all the waitresses look after you really well. You will not be disappointed. It's by far the best food in Southampton and has the best people. You need to remember to bring cash as they don't accept cards. Thank you Blue Island.

My review for Blue Island is long overdue! I have a been visiting this independent restaurant for a number of years now and the food and hospitality has never been anything short of excellent. The menu is unassuming, delicious and authentic, portions are huge and prices are extremely reasonable. The staff are also warm and wonderful, and do all that they can to ensure you have a wonderful night - sometimes even adding a portion of moussaka to the meze, for no extra charge! Highly recommended!

Visited here last night , i wasnt booked in but the staff found us a nice table . We decided on the meze , the food was amazing and it just kept coming , all served by very polite and professional waitresses. A lovely relaxed feel to the restaurant as you would expect if you were in greece , well worth a visit

From the outside the place looks more cafe-like than restaurant like, but did have customers so we gave it a go. Lovely food, and the portions are fantastic. Proper Greek dishes doen in the traditional way. A very good find!

Every course was great. The Halloumi cheese, Chicken and Lamb, Greek Salad and Baklava were all absolutely amazing. I'll be coming back to this place every-time I'm back in Southampton!

We went to this restaurant last night and all had the meze and weren’t disappointed. The courses just kept coming and all the food was delicious . It’s a lovely little restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff and very reasonable for such good food. It’s a must if you like Greek food and are in Southampton.

We visited on a Saturday evening after booking (booking’s essential) and were welcomed in then shown to our table by the capable manageress. After that, the highly efficient waitress looked after us very well.
