Came for a date night as the menu looked good, we arrived and it was very quiet, we had booked a table and looked forward to relaxing on one of the booth seats so we can chat and spend time together but instead we were sat on a little table by the radiator which was the most unappealing of the lot. There was some form of heat source around the table but the radiator was off. As the night went on it got hotter and hotter and in the end it made us leave before desserts. The mains were nice, hot food but the pastry on the pie was a little soft and gooey so slightly undercooked. Was so beautifully decorated and I had high hopes but was a bit of a let down. Won’t be in rush to head back

Disappointing. Little to no ambience. Felt as though I was in a Beefeater or similar. We were there for a celebration but ended up having one course then leaving. The food was nice but nothing special. Wouldn’t rush back.

Our first visit since the refurbishment and change of ownership. Expectations were high. Nice decor and friendly staff. Starters of calamari were a bit odd - strangely seasoned and not as expected. Edible but wouldn’t order again. Chicken liver parfait came with hard crackers - needed toast or fresh bread. Fishcake was nice. Mains of pork belly were gorgeous. Fish and chips had a little too much batter . Steak was good . Desserts were nice - I think these were from Pecks restaurant. Good wines . Good services. Some tweaks needed to rise above standard pub fayre . Will try again and select different dishes.

Open kitchen … kids running around … mediocre decor and atmosphere …. Roast beef was okay … roast potatoes cooked a few days ago though. Yellow and brown and tired. Nothing suitable for an Sunday after lunch pudding (none of us could find anything we liked) So went to Waitrose for deserts.

The refurb is unbelievable! They have done an amazing job, we was there bank holiday just gone for food, unfortunately the food isn’t amazing and it doesn’t reflect on the price you pay, small portions for very expensive prices. My girlfriend had the “buttermilk chicken burger” and it wasn’t anything as stated on the menu the chicken was dry and tasteless, very disappointing for £18.50!! Drinks prices are also very expensive. All being said it’s not worth it for the food but it would be a lovely pub to drink at in the summer just don’t buy to many drinks or you won’t have a lot of money left for the week coming up.

Just been for lunch at The Blue Bell, Smallwood and we were very impressed. The refurb is very tasteful and strikes a great balance of retaining the traditional feel the old place had while also bringing everything to another level. Everywhere is finished to a high standard while still feeling warm and friendly. The food was super. All the meals were delicious and well presented. The staff also made us feel welcome - from giving us a tour to the executive chef coming round to introduce himself. A great job with the refurb - we will certainly be regulars.

The Blue Bell has been our “go to” gastro pub for a number of years and never ever disappointed. Until last week. We learned that head chef Iain had left. The resulting meal was extremely disappointing. We were a medium sized party and more than 50% had to send back their meals. The blade of beef was virtually inedible - never in a million years was it slow cooked. No more visits until they get this sorted.

Don’t waste your time A table of 5 last night, and from start to Finish it was a disaster - like an episode from faulty towers Drinks on every order were wrong, - must say the starters were nice - but - the main meals were shocking Wrong burger sent out - beef over chicken! Steaks were terrible, eggs forgot for the gammon and bought on a separate plate, One of the party ate alone as there meal was incorrect - staff didn’t want to be there and had no skill set what so ever, friends travelled a long distance for a catch up and it was truly embarrassing Please don’t waste your time and money - it really is not worth it

I said it at the time I was last here, but I’ll say it again. The best meal I’ve had for a while! It is nice to appreciate the food sent out by a kitchen that clearly takes pride in what they do. I always tend to go for fish dishes here, as the cooking is always spot on, with the other elements of the dish complimenting the ‘hero’. The Blue Bell Inn is situated in the Cheshire countryside in the tiny village of Smallwood. There is a large car park with plenty of spaces. The pub was very clean, decorated for Christmas and well set up for social distancing. Real ales were on offer as well as foreign lagers but no standard lagers e.g. Fosters, Carling or Carlsberg. The menu was extensive and the food was cooked and presented to a high standard. The prices were on the high side reflecting the Cheshire location and the service was excellent. I would certainly recommend a visit to The Blue Bell.

Having visited the Blue Bell in 3 times in the last 3 months, as the food as always been brilliant, we booked a table to celebrate my Mum's 60th birthday (I told the lady on the phone it was for this occasion when booking). My husband wasn't convinced that this was the best to celebrate as he always says that the pub lacks atmosphere and isn't welcoming. I disagreed and my Mum was keen to visit again too. However, we were to be very disappointed. My father arrived with the professionally made birthday cake to be told we would not be able to have the cake in the pub due to health and safety. They would only ever it with a receipt of purchase, name of person, their address etc whi h I'd never dreamt to take with me as we've never had this problem (we took our own cake to our wedding and to kids parties before). Whatever problem the man serving is came up with once answered he found another. problem. Avoid at all cost if you want a celebration party....this probably accounts for some of the lack of atmosphere in the pub.. We had really high hopes when we booked as trip advisor comments were good. We had the Brie but most of the brie was undercooked, it was very busy so couldn’t attract any staff to ask for them to be re done. The haddock with the mashed potato was disappointing, the potato was lumpy and the meat was hard and overcooked within the potato. The meat pie was all pastry and very dry. The soups were lovely however and the belly pork was very good. It’s not cheap so we were disappointed that some of the meals were not very good. The vegetables were almost raw especially the cabbage. Maybe it was just a bad night and we chose the wrong things.

We live locally but do not visit the Blue Bell often enough. We both enjoyed excellent meals and excellent service. The pub was very quiet I expect because it was the beginning of the week and weather pretty appalling The atmosphere in the bars is cosy and reflects the period of building . My Mrs and I called in for a drink on the Saturday and ended up spending most of the afternoon chatting to the landlady and drinkers by the open fire, very cosy and very chilled out. We decided to go back on the Sunday for lunch and glad we did, the food was amazing, service brilliant and bit of pricey side for lunch but worth it. I had prawn cocktail, beautifully presented and plenty of it, I had the lamb shank (amazing) that fell off the bone and the wife had the burger, everything is homemade, chips were beautiful and fluffy and not greasy at all and for afters the wife had the best brownie she has ever tasted and for me I don’t normally do desert but had apple and cinnamon with custard and it was to die for, the bill with three shandy’s and two pints was £63, wouldn’t normally spend that on lunch but worth the treat. My only gripe, if any and it’s preference I would have liked and extra small pot of seafood sauce, wasn’t enough to on the plate for me, but that’s it. Oh, and complements to the gentleman waiting tables, thanks you to referring to us a ladies and not ‘guys’, small things matter. I had roast beef and received a good sized portion, the cauliflower cheese didn't appear to have any cheese and the cauliflower was burnt in places however. My wife ordered a pie; I can't remember what the filling was meant to be but it was meant to have cheese in it but there was very little. There was however quite a lot of mustard seeds which was not noted in the menu. There was some very old fashioned music playing in the background on this occasion which made the pub feel very dated.

Only a couple of niggles with this superb old country inn. We had a super lunch with friends, recently. You have to find the place first, as it is delightfully off the beaten track. When you do, it's truly a 'find'. We all had a drink in the cosy bar before a the traditional pub lunch, chosen from a full a la carte menu. No complaints at all. There was a good choice of desserts but at eye-watering prices - I mean £6.50 - for a country pub? Needless to say, we all bit the bullet. The barman could have been a bit more friendly, otherwise we were well looked after and the waitress was attentive and cheerful. All in all, whilst we were not alone by any means, the place was by no means full. But there were no shrieking diners shouting their heads off at the next table and no loud music, which was a blessed relief for once!

Food was excellent, we took full advantage of the amazing specials on offer, I started with a lovely homely tomato and red pepper soup while my girlfriend had such a great starter of ham hock and black pudding bon bons, to follow I had coq-au-vin with mashed potato and roasted vegetables which was so good, the best main meal I'd had out in a long time! My girlfriend then had the burger from the main menu, which she ensured me she was fantastic! Even if she had to have half of it wrapped to take away as it defeated her! Overall it was a lovely meal, the service was impeccable can't fault it, friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We stumbled upon this tiny little pub in Smallwood, whilst out and about looking for Blackberries to pick from the hedgerows.....

I have been going to this pub since 1980.what an amazing place it was. Full of great locals. And good beer. Now?? Building extension completely out of context. Miserable guy behind the bar and rubbish tasting over priced beer. Drank up quick and i shall never be returning. Another destroyed British pub. WELL DONE.

The food was lovely and well presented. Prices are not too bad for the quality of food you receive. Drinks prices are a bit pricey especially the wines. There is a lovely outdoor area with a few items of equipment for children. The ambience is very nice as it is a quaint pub. Well worth a visit. The portobello mushrooms were scrumptious. All food is plentiful too.

We went here for our wedding anniversary, as it was recommended by a friend and we couldn't of been more suprised the place was quiet it was a Monday, but the food and service were excellent, the waitress was pleasant and the food was proper cooked and prepared food, not you frozen or ready made, my wife had the roasted beetroot to start, I had the tomatoe soup, and we both had the braised beef for mains, this was excellent and very tasty, we will be going back.

From the first moment we walked in we felt at home. The welcome was extremely warm and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The bar staff, table service and kitchen team are just perfect. Regardless of whether there is just two or a large party the service is exemplary.

We went for lunch after we'd been for a walk with our dog and were able to sit in the bar area with him which was great and a lovely open fire was very welcome. Really good choice on the menu from simple pub grub to something that little bit different, it was hard to choose as it all seemed fantastic! We really enjoyed our meals, cooked to perfection and the staff were very helpful and polite, definitely will return and would recommend.

Four of us visited for an evening meal at this traditional country pub. There is an extensive menu with a specials list and food is cooked to order. While you may have to wait for a little, the freshly cooked food is definitely worth it. Vegetarians are catered for and the wine list was fine.I cannot comment on the beer selection. Service was friendly and efficient. In summer you can sit out in the beer garden and there are open fires inside in winter. They are also dog friendly in the pub area. We will be back.

Have visited here a few times for drinks and the menu always looked good. Myself and family came here on a Saturday night and was not disappointed. Very good varied menu and good choices of fish dishes. All meals were faultless and service was great. Prices are fair and they also offer smaller portions which is a nice touch. This will be on my list of return pubs in the area.

Have driven past and never called in, so on a wet December evening we dropped in for an evening meal. We were seated quickly and served by a very friendly waitress. The steak and kidney pie is a must if you like a proper home made fresh traditional pie and we could fault the cheese board which we had for sweet. A great meal and pub, shame the open fires weren't lit the day we went but it didn't affect us, the bar has a range of ales and a good selection of soft drinks, wines etc, definitely be back.

We went as a party of 8 to this previously unheard of pub. The venue is small and located down a long quiet country lane. There's plenty of parking, but at night there's little illumination and when it's snowed, parking can be tricky as ice makes you lose grip on the road. This place has disabled access via a ramp which was clear of ice, a considerate feature, not that we had need for it, just something I noticed.

Food has got expensive, on the website states paninis £7.75, when the actual price in the cafe is over £10. We had 2 paninis and a pot of tea, the bill came to over £27. We use the cafe on a regular basis, but will be giving it a miss from now.

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!
