We were worried when we saw the menu, usual with chips. Then we were delighted to hear there was a special board. So we had beef cheeks and belly of pork. Probably our best evening meal during our week stay in Cornwall. Excellent meats, snappy cracking, tasty sauces and vegetables. Good ale to match, not forgetting a warm Cornish welcome. Happy times.

Visited for Sunday lunch having read all the positive reviews. What a disappointment, poorly cooked and small portions. The chicken and beef seemed as though it had come from a packet especially the beef it was wafer thin and certainly not hand carved from a joint. Cauliflower cheese was too hard to cut into. Dry roast potatoes.

Just popped in for a restorative pint after a bike ride in the nearby Camel Trail, intrigued by the praise it’s received from CAMRA (was once awarded National Pub of The Year). Very good range of (primarily local) cask ales, served by an enthusiastic and seemingly knowledgeable young guy who was eager to offer me a taster of the beer I was considering. Plenty of seating outside, allowing you to admire the tranquility of the village green while you sip your pint and contemplate the meaning of life.

Met up with a long-term friend and ex-colleague after several months. Wanted somewhere friendly where we would not be rushed & this Inn was perfect. We were served by Kitty at the bar who couldn't have been more understanding of our needs. The food was good and my food intolerances accomodated with a smile. We will certainly meet there again. Pretty Village to explore when it isn't raining.

Rented a cottage in Millpool for 10 days, was recommended The Blisland Inn and went there the first night . Tried another couple of places subsequently but returned to the Blisand Inn the remainder of our time in Cornwall. It was an excellent inn, nice ambiance, good food at reasonable prices and friendly staff. We shall return when back in Cornwall.

We had Sunday lunch today 23rd June. Staff were really friendly and accommodating as we had 3 dogs. We had 1 beef and 1 lamb, loads of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding homemade which is a bonus. Dessert is outstanding not your normal shop bought rubbish, homemade and delicious. We were recommended to try the pub by a local man. I rarely complete reviews but felt this deserved one especially as it's reasonably priced for great quality

We received a really warm welcome from the young lady behind the bar, who couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. We chose jacket potatoes, which came with 2 butters, generous amounts of prawn and tuna fillings and excellent salads of very fresh leaves, tomato, pepper, radish, celery. The young man who served our food was also very friendly. Sadly we were driving so couldn’t sample the wonderful selection of local ales. We sat in the lounge bar with its amazing collections of toby jugs, pipes, etc; a quirky and fascinating room. An unpretentious, historic and traditional Cornish pub in a beautiful location on the village green. The loos could definitely do with refurbishment but all in all an excellent lunch stop and we shall return.

A lovely lunch ruined by a very old regular woman thinking she owns the joint by saying how much she hated our dogs and only likes big dogs and she has been left to look after a small dog she hates and wants it put down. She would not go away even though asked to politely once. In the end she went off and bothered another couple with small dogs. 😔😔😔

Sunny beer garden out front. Great food and hearty portions. Super-friendly/ helpful staff. We stopped off by chance to see if they did food in the evening. Extensive menu but we opted for a couple of the specials - a lamb curry that came with rice, nan bread, mini popadoms and mango chutney and a home-made beef lasagne that came with salad and chips. Both were tasty. The dessert menu looked good too but we were just too full from the huge main courses so had to pass. It’s less of a typically touristy spot too so prices are very reasonable. Just make sure you don’t sit in the seat of a local in the main bar 😂. We almost did but we’re skilfully guided to another table by the staff😃

After a little research I decided to bring my nieces and my aunt here for dinner as they are visiting me in Cornwall, we were all more than impressed. I loved the quirkiness of the pub, the ceiling and walls are certainly entertaining to look through. Lovely staff, the lady at the bar was friendly and super welcoming, the girl who took our orders was polite and very knowledgeable and then the young chap who may have been a cook was super attentive and lovely to talk to. We had fried butterfly prawns and traditional prawn cocktail as starters and wow, totally impressed. My niece demolished the fried prawns and was still raving out them after we left! The prawn cocktail was lovely and fresh but a huge size! (You can’t really complain about that hey!) Mains were lamb, chicken nuggets, scampi and the steak baguette. It is safe to say we all left with giant happy belly’s Everything was cooked to perfection, served beautifully and big portions! The steak baguette from the specials was Devine, impossible to finish it all but would have if I could! and to top it all off, their pooch came along, was treated to yummy biscuits and enjoyed being indoors with us. Highly recommended to any locals venturing afar from your usual haunts and of course to any tourist coming by! Thank you for a lovely evening

Rustic country pub with welcoming staff. Good range of real beers at reasonable prices. Also do DoomBar 0°alchol bottle beer. Very dog friendly in fact nearly all diners had at least one dog. Best to book a table as food in the evening is only served between 6 and 9pm.

Visited this pub and was so pleased that we did! A lovely welcome from the landlord and a table of locals. Gorgeous cosy pub with decent real ales on tap (7 on the day we went) and we had a lovely afternoon sheltering from the rainy weather. Enjoyed our lunchtime meals - trout bites with chips, a decent sized Jacket Pot with prawns and salad and a big fresh ham bap with salad. Decent and honest pub grub served with a smile and efficient staff. We loved this pub, it was a bit of a find and if we hadn't got plans later on in the day, we would have happily just spent the rest of the day there. Dogs, children and walkers are all welcome. The landlord gave us a wave off at the pub door outside! Well worth a visit.

The waitress came out and said it was at temperature and that they had served hundreds of these dishes with no complaints. the menu was limited so they did us anotherfish meal each. The batter was lighter in colour and the fish was better but not great. A lady sat at the bar said that she had mentioned the poor quality of the fish to the owner and would mention it again. If they want an example of what we expected then i suggest they go to the borough arms bodmin their fish was excellent.so, all in all our visit which we had looked forward to for a long tiome was tainted - such a shame One final comment - the staff need to take fair comments in the manner they were made

Very disappointing visit to this pub. Looks good, has lots of ales.....but we went with our two kids (13 and 15), despite being only 5.30 and the place virtually empty we were told that kids we're allowed in the main part of the bar and we had to sit in a back room which lacked all the atmosphere of the pub. I resembled a store room. There was nothing for the kids to do in there. They weren't even allowed to play on the pool table. To make thing worse there was a sign on the door saying jokingly 'that children would be taken as slaves'. There was a sign on the 'lounge' bar saying no children but no on the 'bar'. All in all, very poor. I should have told them to stuff their drinks but I was too polite so I paid, drank up fast and left. Needless to say, I won'b be back - with or without kids. Oh...and there was no real fire....also not good at this time of the year.To be fair though, the beer I had was good.

Stopped here as the main road was blocked and we were on holiday. Had been out all day and we all needed a break from the car and rain. Found this by luck. Lovely atmoshere. Children were allowed one side of the bar. There were quite a few younger children (preschool) age books and games, but nothing for school age children so we ended up teaching my 11 yr old daughter pool and darts ! , and we had the area to ourselves, so was completely child friendly as far as I was concerned. The ceiling was covered with mugs from various sources (easter eggs / 1980's petrol coupons etc...) which was quite entertaining in itself. Needed to used a bit of mum intuition to entertain daughter while food was being cooked, because ok there's no child puzzle book, (as you get in the chains) but other than that it was as child friendly as I would expect. On the side of the bar where children were not allowed there were more mugs...Toby Mugs, and with permission from the landlady, who was very approachable, I was allowed to show my daughter them. Food was typical pub grub. Our dog was welcomed, by landlady and other drinkers, which was good because she had been couped up in the car for ages and so was a bit frantic. The pub was a traditional Cornish feel. In need of a bit of TLC in places, but I could overlook that because of the welcome we recieved. I think this is probably quite normal for a " freehouse" in Cornwall. Thank you so much we needed that grub and the break from the car !

Four of us stopped here for a drink. Great ciders, gins and everyting else and at a sensible price. Saw some of the food coming out to tables and it looked good.

This pub has a traditional cosy bar, a separate dining area, and one of the finest selection of (nine) real ales (mostly Cornish) I have ever come across. So you'd need a chauffeur to be able sample them all! Blisland is a very pleasant village but out in the sticks so not very car user friendly. But both the village and the pub are well worth making a detour for. And my lunch was excellent - triple-decker crab sandwich with all the trimmings, and a varied menu to suit all tastes. Highly recommended.

We were staying near this pub on holiday so decided to pop in, it all looked very nice from the outside but inside was a bit old fashioned, the food was ok but not restaurant quality, it’s ok for a quick pint but that’s about it in our opinion.

I was working in Bodmin and fancied a drive out to get some dinner. Very welcoming staff on a busy Wednesday quiz night. I had lasagna, chips and salad and the portion was perfect. Very tasty. Decent larger too. Would gladly return if in the area.

Great location for a local pub. Really great range of beers, including ones not available elsewhere. We received a lovely welcome, food ordered and came in good order. The food was nice and plentiful. Lovely touch was the kids toys. Place dog friendly too.

Blisland is a place you have to want to find, otherwise you just won't stumble upon it. Right in the centre of the village is the Blisland Inn. This has to be one of the best pubs I have been to for real ale in a very long time. The staff are extremely welcoming and take time to serve you. On the evening we went, the quiz was on, yet the landlord who was the quiz master still took time to speak with me and welcome us to his pub. The fact we both originally came form the same city just added to the sense of being welcome. I can't wait for my next visit.

Overlooking the village green this traditional pub was a great find. Inside it has more space than the outside let on, plenty of room for children and dogs too! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the delicious food was served quickly.

On a recent visit my other half, sampled so of the Real Ales, Which he enjoyed, It is only a small pub but filled with locals, by their accent. No Food to be had as it was 7pm, and the only thing was so many dogs, so you had to be careful when you moved. Much to claustrophobic for me

When you walk into this Inn,, it is like taking a step into dreamworld. Great food, great beer and local ales, great friendly staff and a very warm welcome awaits everyone who visits this splendid Inn. Off the beaten track but, it is more than worth the trip to get there. You will not be disappointed, just the opposite. A must visit and see Inn.

The food here was average. This is a real "locals" pub, with bags of character but which could also do with a very good spring clean. The choice of beers is good. The worst part of the experience are the toilets. Absolutely disgusting.

Coming away to Cornwall for a family holiday, this had been recommended as a good local pub and it did not disappoint! The decoration and design gives it a traditional pub feel and I really liked the fact that the restaurant area was small, as it made the service feel more personal and you had your own space.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

We chanced upon this cosy, historic pub while out walking along the Saint's Trail from Perranporth to Cocks on Thursday, 5th December. We initially popped in for lunch - sandwiches, dripping cooked chips plus drinks - and ended up returning that evening for fish and chips, and again on Sunday lunchtime for the Sunday roast. We were that impressed!!!! The haddock and chips was sublime, as was the roast pork, which came with all the trimmings plus the excellent cauliflower cheese as an extra. The desserts of sour cherry roulade and sticky toffee pudding were also excellent. Finally, Matt clearly knows how to keep beer as both the London Pride and Landlord were perfect. As others have recently commented, the new landlords, Matt and Diane, are a class act and we found them very friendly, accommodating and professional. They have a lot of experience from previous ventures and we wish them well at the Bolingey Inn - we will certainly return there, next time we are on holiday in the area and will happily recommend it to others.
