I'm a coffee cake addict & my partner heard they make it at Blake's so he brought me one as a surprise. At first I was happy but once I tasted it, I felt nauseated. I don't know quite how to describe it... the fondant on top is very scarce, but that's ok because it tastes vile, too sweet & the coffee flavour seems to come from some kind of terrible flavouring/essence, not from actual real coffee... the cake loaf itself - again, overly sweet & no coffee flavour whatsoever, pretty dry, topped with a few rancid walnuts... Also when I found out how much it costs, I was even more upset. I can get 2 much bigger coffee cakes from the supermarket for this price, more importantly those cakes would be edible.

Walking through Liskeard, popped into Blakes Bakery as we wanted to treat the kids to the local Saffron buns. According to the kids, nice filling buns - though on the pricey side for the local area. Sadly they had nothing Gluten Free on the day for me! Easy to find at the top of the hill in Liskeard.

After enjoying a Cornish cream tea after buying and taking back scones from Blakes, subsequently called into the actual bakery in Doublebois (PL14 6LE) just outside Liskeard to collect pasties and more scones. Could peer in and see the scones being made on site (and smell too). All lovely and nice to support small scale bakery.

I am sure that in the past, Blake's was OK. Maybe it was just a bad day but last week when I went in to get something to eat the server was as sour as can possibly be and the pasty (cheese and onion) was vile... It pretty much disintegrated when I picked it up (not like, flaky and nice but soggy and ... just a soggy mass of overly salty mush, the crust impossible to even differentiate from the filling). It takes me a lot to throw out an uneaten pasty but this went right into the bin and I felt pretty disgusted for the rest of the afternoon. I am not sure what the issue was - was it perhaps very old? Reheated too many times? Surely if they were always that bad Blakes wouldn't even be in business anymore.

I used to love your large mince pasties, they were excellent, filling and LARGE, but now they are so small. So dissappointing

During a day trip to liskeard a local man suggested I walked from the train station to the towns Main Street to find a bakery. I spotted a well presented bakery called blakes. So far so good. I went in and was drawn to sign offering a meal deal. This consisted of a pasty, a cake, and a can of drink. Let's start with the pasty. I asked for a steak pasty which was utterly disgusting, hot on the outside yet stone cold on the inside. The veg was mush, the pastry was vile at best. No flavour at all and poorly crimped, 0 out of 10. Next I had a pink iced cake. The icing was nice, poorly decorated but tasty none the less. However once you got passed the icing it was served on a VERY stale bun/doughnut thing. I'd say made several days prior and topped daily with desired topping. 0/10. The can of coke however was lovely. I was served by a little old lady who stank of cigarettes and at no point was anybody polite or bothered about me as a customer. Do not go here, I cannot stress that enough. Also at the back of the shop was a woman with no gloves or hair net making a sandwich whilst eating ham. So I guess I did well avoiding the saliva sandwich.

I like to support local businesses. But I feel on this occasion a need to speak out. I have been in Blake's Bakery on three occasions and each time the food has been stale! The first time was a packet of four scones, which were obviously stale. I didn't complain as I thought it was a one off mistake and so I left it. Earlier today, I bought a cheese and pickle sandwich, which I specifically asked was it fresh and I was told it had just been made. When I opened it the bread was grey and obviously yesterday days. It was vile and definitely yesterdays bread. I took it back and I complained ( nicely) and I was immediately given my money back, no dispute, I would assume this is a regular thing. I had also bought an almond slice in the morning, I didn't even check this, until after I had taken the sandwich back, lightening couldn't strike 3 times could it? well yes it did, it was vile and definitely stale! I am not one to post negative feedback, as anyone who reads my posts will see. Though I am so angry that any business can think its right to sell food as though it is fresh when it most definitely is not!

Independent bakers are experiencing a surge of popularity and variety in many parts of the country and I hoped after the first review that Blakes might be an example when I came in this morning. The windows were covered in condensation so I couldn't see before I went in. It's a large shop unit but there's not a lot in it. Difficult to tell whether any but a little baking or reheating goes on. There were some big well crusted tin loaves, a sign referring to some variant with olives, no mention of sourdough or pain au chocolat/croissants or even Eccles cakes but at least there were some Choux pasty fresh cream buns. The staff were welcoming and friendly but the whole set up just lacked a bit. Reassuring though that there was a modest but steady stream of customers. I wish they could be a bit more adventurous. Or maybe they judge that the local demography isn't up for it yet?

Have always loved Blakes bread, and their cakes are always fresh, especially the fresh cream doughnuts! Mmm. I am currently hooked on their malted brown bloomer, which they will slice if required.

Very pricey, average, small coffee (£13 for 3 lattes) We only went here as the kiosk was closed. I wonder if they are cashing in on the location, tourists and lack of many alternatives.
