Turned up at hotel having booked approx 3 hours previously to be met by a receptionist. Importantly their website states pets welcome in all areas. Had a days hike around Devils Dyke and looking forward to an enjoyable stay. Everything fine until they saw the dog!! Despite saying all welcome , dogs are not welcome…. Not allowed to stay in the rooms. By this time the chef appeared (partner / owner?) and just advised the receptionist to do nothing and we would go away as the booking was inaccurate and nothing they could do - Receptionist started hinting the dog could sleep in the car overnight. It all went downhill from there as neither wanted to engage with us, just said it was policy and to ignore us. Asked for a refund as this was a genuine error and room only booked for 3 hours but they both flatly refused and basically ignored us. No doubt this may be a nice place but DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU WANT SOMEWHERE THAT CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. Just money grabbing opportunists and do not deserve to be in the hospitality industry. With everything you read about what has happened in this industry- no wonder people stay at home - so short sighted and uncaring - did not try and find out our story and where we were from apart from ignore them they will go Thinking of turning up to get our breakfast in the morning that we have paid for and will order everything on the menu as breakfast included…………………. There is a word for people like this?????

From start to finish the owners made us very welcome, and Jazz’s food was very good. Ate there the third night and we all had Jamaican food and a few rum punches, maybe a few too many!!! Very reasonable for room rate and for food, so what more do you want? If we are back in the area we would return.

A great choice as a country B&B and/or Pub close to both Lewes and Brighton. Jazz & Drixi are excellent hosts and our booking was handled seamlessly. Fab breakfasts (probably the best Full English breakfasts we've ever had), and the lunch and dinner menus include both Caribbean and British dishes, all much enjoyed. The pub, with its friendly locals & cosy atmosphere at nights, was very relaxing. There is also a beer garden at the back and car parking. Whenever we get back to Sussex we will definitely return!

We stopped off here for a night after attending Plumpton Racecourse, it's a short drive from the course itself and turned out to be an ideal choice. The welcome was great, a smiling face to greet you makes all the difference and sets the tone for the stay. Our cosy room was clean, fresh and very comfortable, bottled water/tea/coffee/biscuits were provided in the room, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had everything we needed. We had a superb Breakfast before we left in the morning, Tea/Coffee/Orange Juice/ Cereal etc were all laid out for us but we opted to go straight into The English Breakfast which was delicious ! We really liked this place and the people running it, if you're looking for somewhere near Plumpton Racecourse, or somewhere convenient to Lewes stop searching and just book this place, you wont be disappointed ! Thank you for looking after us so well, we really appreciate it. Vernon & Anna

The good:* Food was reasonable (although I've never had a salad plonked in a pile of spicy gravy...)* At least one staff member seemed pleasant However...the bad...* I booked on the basis of the 'sample ' winter menu on the website - it bears absolutely no resemblance to what's actually on offer. I genuinely didn't expect the country pub portrayed to be something that simply now majors on jamaican food * Staff seemed oblivious of this misrepresentation * In all other pubs I have been to during the latter stages of lockdown, ALL staff wear masks or face coverings...not here * Despite indicating that they take customers details in case of an outbreak, there was no evidence of this * The website indicates that those not eating must sit outside...so why was there a group of 3 men down one end of the pub who did nothing but drink? Not impressed....

Sunday lunch with my recently turned vegetarian 16 yr old daughter and my wife. I was intrigued by the Jamaican aspect and it was on our route. They didn't have the Jamaican options i would have liked to have gone for available, so I had steak in a hot jamaican sauce - the sauce seemed to be coconut infused with chilli. It was hot but very dull, with a couple of scraps of pepper thrown in.Fish and chips, which is how my wife tests out a new pub to eat in, flabby, grey, wet fish in non-crispy batter.Nut roast sunday dinner, oh my god. The gravy was ok for veggie, the potatoes were enormous so not enough crispy ouside to inside ratio, but the nut roast! I have not seen or tasted anything so vile since the late 70s! Dark grey, solid and heavy. And my duaghter's first one (if she ever has another). Unacceptable for 2019 when there are wonderful, creative, tasty examples everywhere.2 stars rather than one as service was lovely.

I had a beef stew which was good and spicy and served with rice, and my wife had a chicken dish. My daughter had a veggie curry which she found too spicy and chilli hot for her taste. Perhaps the menu could add a warning about the chilli. It was not a problem for me.

Managed to squeeze in a beer before the wedding which was nice – didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food but we had a good night sleep after the wedding! Only negative is breakfast is quite early for the weekend at 8.30-9.30 so we didn’t make it down. They were also very understanding when we drove away with one of their room keys which I had to post back the following morning! We were recommended to the Blacksmith's for dinner. It was disappointing. My Brussels pate lacked flavour and could have come from an external mass catering supplier. Our mains were equally disappointing. My Roast sweet potato consisted of a large sweet potato cut in half and dressed with melted cheese. It was fairly bland and what taste there may have been was masked by the heat of the spiced vegetables it came with. My partner's Reggae chicken came whole, coated in a dry black sauce. It was very dry and lacked any distinctive flavour. Service was welcoming and very pleasant but swamped by the numbers of diners.

Not too sure why this place attracts such raving reviews. Went there for dinner on a Thursday, and I was the only booking for the night. The regular menu was very standard pub food - sausages and mash, fish and chips, burgers. The Caribbean specials were a tad more interesting (chicken curry, rump, bean burger). The waiter recommended the "very popular" spinach and chicken curry, which was not bad, but again, very standard - with rice and beans as side. As I said, probably better than the usual pub grub, but definitely not worth a journey to taste the delicacies. At £58 for two adults and a kid, probably not the best value for money in town. Did not notice any special local atmosphere either.

We're mostly not great fans of Sunday roast lunches. They tend to be overcooked dry yet greasy tasteless afterthoughts for vegetarians. But it's Sunday and we're in England so Sunday roast it is. And at the Blacksmith Arms we collectively agreed that this was the best nut roast we had in a very long time. Nut roast itself was moist, tasty and light. Accompanying veg was perfectly done and obviously hadn't been sitting around waiting to be served.

We came here for dinner, having come here last year when it was under different owners with a different chef. This time we learned the pub was under new management, and the Specials Board showed a variety of Jamaican dishes - jerk chicken, curry etc. The chef/owner is Jamaican - a very sociable man, and extremely likeable. It helps that he is a good cook. Our food was delicious and well-priced. The service was terrible, though friendly. The wrong dishes came out; and one of our four wasn't served anything at all. Some of what we were given turned out to have been meant for people at another table, and in the end though we all ate well, we did not eat together, due to mis-timings from the service staff and mis-communication between them and the kitchen. The chef did come out and apologise for this, and he explained that the waiting staff were training: one was his daughter who was helping him out. It was a Tuesday night, and he said they had only just started opening on Tuesdays, which is why the staff were trainees. He pointed out, in a nice way, that until recently if we had wanted to eat there on a Tuesday it would not have been possible. That's fair enough, and I sympathise with him for the predicament. He was so nice it was hard to be cross, though to be quite honest the service was really bad. Nevertheless I would definitely go there again in the hope that the service would be better - I don't think the chef is the kind of man to leave these matters unaddressed - because the food was really good. We are not local, so it might well be another year before we get the chance. I hope business goes well and he succeeds.

Myself and three friends visited last night and sat outside. We started with rum punch which was delicious. For food we all had meals from the Jamaican specials board and all of us were blown away at how amazing it was. The flavours were delicious - I’m looking forward to our next visit. The chef came out after the meal to check that we enjoyed our food which was lovely! Defo recommend this place for any Jamaican food lovers!

From the photographs and reviews we were expecting a quiet country pub with great food. The pub is next to a main road and there is the constant noise of passing traffic. The food (Sunday Linch) is not good. Perhaps we should have tried the Jamaican menu?

Ate here three times whilst staying locally. The Jamaican specials are great. Really loved the chicken and spinach curry. Tried the roast on Sunday. Generous portions and well cooked.

We went for Sunday lunch which was very nice plenty of choice every kind of roast with plenty of meat I had the lamb which was very tasty which was served with roast potatoes carrots cauliflower broccoli parsnips and Savoy cabbage and I had gravy in a jug. The rest of the party had meals off the specials board which was all Caribbean which all looked very nice. The dessert menu was very nice with a gluten free option of chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ice cream. They have a good variety of ice creams and I've been told the coconut ice cream is very nice. I would recommend stopping at this small friendly pub were the staff are very helpful

I came away a little deflated from here. They only had a roast on offer, which i would never usually order as I can have that at home. We had to wait just over an hour for our food to be served as well, which was disappointing. Then the worst thing for me was that as a new mother of a 12day old baby, I had to change my newborn on the toilet floor, as there was no baby changing facilities, that was more than disappointing.

But there are many more positive reviews about this establishment and I'll add one. Have been passing the pub for some time and knew it had recently changed hands or management, anyway the sign caught my eye with the Caribbean menu. I booked a table and we had the most enjoyable Caribbean food, wine and pleasant service. I saw the traditional pub menu being served and it looked terrific as well. So there, I suggest you try for yourself and by the way It's my wife's birthday and I've just booked for tonight and we're going to sample the traditional fare.

Avoid this pub , close eyes hold steering wheel in both hands , foot on peddle and repeat the mantra ‘ keep moving do not stop’ . Now review , Beer selection limited , wine selection mainly vinegar . Food slightly edible . If you want a laugh my coeliac disease was met with all our drinks contain gluten. So basically aggressive attitude to someone with a disease . Very funny I thought but others may cry.

Great food. Really tasty fish and chips, cooked perfectly. Lovely sweet potato and goats cheese with spinach. The Harvey's here is really well kept and tastes better than I've had anywhere else. Service was great too. A great atmosphere.

We drove past this inn several times, not liking the outside appearance. Eventually curiosity got he better of us due to the sign advertising Jamaican food, not something we had tried before. Inside, the inn was spotlessly clean. The food was, as I expected, different from anything we had tried before and was delicious. What's more, it is a friendly, family-run business. If you are passing, do stop. You will be glad you did.

We had a lovely overnight stay at the Blacksmith Arms. We started the stay with Sunday lunch I had roast lamb which was delicious, the lamb was melt in mouth and plenty of it. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. My husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed a nice size piece of fish with plenty of chips. There wasn't a great selection of desserts the only dessert that was suitable for a gluten free diet was ice cream, which was very nice ice cream but was a bit expensive for what it was.

Having had some really good meals here in the past when Bernie was the landlord/chef, I thought we'd try out the new management. There was only one other table occupied at 12.30pm on a pleasant Wednesday in mid-March and that was still the case when we left after our meal. I like a bit of peace and quiet but this was a bit Marie Celeste. The welcome was perfunctory and there were times when we had to get up from our table to attract attention for service as no-one was around; so we did feel uncomfortable. I had a mackerel dish - the fish was well cooked - and my friend was quite pleased with a ratatouille tart, but both portions were quite small. Olives and bread beforehand was a good insurance policy. I am not sure but I would not have been surprised had the barman/waiter been a locum. But since the food was quite nice and the venue pleasant, I'll will give it another try ..........

The customer service was very good and there was a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe discourages people using laptops. Looked to be a good selection of cakes and drinks. The lunches we saw looked good quality but there are cheaper lunches available in Uckfield. We would us it again.

Popped in for a coffee whilst in the area for business. Charming little place. I simply wanted to mention this place as the flat white I had was a great, great cup of coffee. If only other coffee shops could provide similar quality.
