Black Horse Pub in Windsor and Maidenhead

Called in for dinner, it is a typical pub with food, nothing fancy, good old pub grub. Food and service was good. Recommend if you are looking for some good basic hot food at a reasonable price.

We came here for an evening meal while visiting Legoland. You can't pre-book and it is quite small inside. They do have tables outside with an overhead heater but we managed to find a spot. Staff seemed friendly. The food was hot, great tasting and much better than we expected as the atmosphere was more of a drinkers pub (but it was a Friday night). I definitely recommend the steak and ale pie (£9.95). Fish and chips on Friday came with a drink all for £10. So prices were good value for money we felt.

Local pub close to Legoland Windsor. Came here to eat in the evenings throughout our Lego break and the food is amazing and the team are absolutely lovely. They made us feel very welcome and prices are lots less than eating at Lego resort. Well worth the ride out in the evening and as a bonus … if you have an electric vehicle, you can charge for 3 hrs at Tesco over the road. Thank you. Definitely give this 10/10. We had to pop on to write a review, whilst staying at LEGOLAND we decided we want more then the hotel burger, and saw this pub on the way in. The outside looked welcoming and local, and was exactly that. It is small and they don't take bookings but when we arrived the friendly locals moved tables so we could sit down for food, it was warm and welcoming as was its food! 2 adults and 2 children enjoyed our meals and the pudding were amazing! Price was also on point (especially in comparison to legland!) So if your looking for good honest traditional meals pop in, we did!! (PS you can also charge your EV in the Tesco across the road, added bonus! - Obviously if one of you are on soft drinks - or try the alcohol free Old Moat they had that too!)

This pub seems incapable of keeping even a half decent pint which does not taste putrid and is as cloudy as pea soup. Such a shame as this part of Windsor needs a good pub, this is not it. Someone needs to manage the cellar who knows what they are doing.

Friendly welcome from staff, food and pimms excellent, presentation good enjoyed our lunch good local pub. We will return.

the pub is small , but very friendly and helpful , good food and good price. also will do a wake and do wonderful sandwiches.

It was a wednesday lunch time, and fairly quiet. A good selection of food, from sandwiches to burgers, steaks pies fish and chips. The food was well cooked and very tasty, I would definitely go again, and recommend.

Called in for lunch with a friend who lives near the pub because her kitchen was being refurbed. First impressions were that it was noisy with big TVs showing football and lots of children. But staff were friendly, service was good and the food was tasty (jacket potatoes) so it was just what was needed.

Another deceiving pub from the outside. Very friendly and welcoming. Excellent customer service throughout and from all Staff. Food very good value and generous portions with a varied menu.

Visited when staying nearby. Good selection of Ales and reasonably priced pub grub. Not fine dining but food hit the spot with good sized well presented portions and efficient friendly service.

First time visit here and what a surprise!!! Although the Fish & Chips were not available (on a Friday!!!!!) the choice of other food were excellent. Portions were plenty and service was efficient and friendly. A pub worth going back to.

Called here as we were staying 2 mins away. Although the pub was full of locals watching the football we were pointed to a table that had just become available. Could not fault the staff as they were very helpful, excellent food with quick service. Good value for money and no tin plates.

We come once a month to catch up with friends. The pub has undergone change and refurbishment a while ago. That's all very well but if you don't keep it clean it won't t last. The staff are hit miss, sometimes very attentive and promt and sometimes it feels that the ladies think they do you a favour giving you a drink. The food is ok (nothing to write home about) but what buggs me everytime is the nasty metal trays. Like prisoners. Well even my cats eat from ceramic so please next month can I have my burger on a plate please (I haven't broken any in month).

this is a nice little pub, but be warned its very small and so gets very packed. Staff are really nice and friendly

Hoy, viernes 9 de noviembre, tomo mi copa de vino y encuentro que el precio ha subido, desde el miércoles desde las 4. 25 a 5. 60 por la misma medida! ! Reviewed here after the initial refurb and it wasn’t great. I go in here often now and they have found decent staff and they are all polite and generally know what drink to pour before I ask. Great atmosphere of a weekend too

6 de nosotros llegamos al Reino Unido hoy. No queríamos una comida elegante, solo queríamos comida tradicional de pub. El pub Black Horse estaba cerca de nuestro hotel. Era exactamente lo que queriamos. Hamburguesas, macarrones y queso, un pastel de carne y cerveza y el bistec de rabadilla cubierto de salsa de maíz y pimienta. Las raciones eran grandes y deliciosas. El servicio fue excelente y la cerveza estaba fría.

Entró en un día caluroso y caliente, un par de cervezas y mi apetito estaba listo. Pedí una rape azul de la dama encantadora detrás de la barra (muy rápido y eficiente). Salí a disfrutar de mi pinta y la señora que me atendió me hizo saber que los chefs no podían hacer un bistec azul que, con toda justicia, es aceptable en mis libros, me dijeron que el cocinero lo cocinaría raro y que no estaba insatisfecho con la forma en que salió. Literalmente 30 segundos menos por cada lado y habría sido azul. Me di cuenta de que el chef se tomó el tiempo de elegir el corte correcto para mi pedido. Nunca he engullido un bistec tan rápido como lo hice y debo decir que estoy impresionado. Si le apetece algo para comer, no vaya por el fish & chips o una hamburguesa. . . Definitivamente ve con un bistec.

This week I have been twice with different groups of friends to the Black Horse .

Badly gone downhill since the refurbishment and new owners. Used to be a nice local now feels like a building number on a pub chain sheet.

Been my local for 17 years but since its refurb is a much better venue. Had a meal at lunch time today. Piping hot and well presented. Bar staff friendly and generally attentive. Lost a star because I had to ask for cutlery and condiments but food is top class

Four of us had lunch here and it was great, really good quality, piping hot food, reasonably priced in a cozy pub. Staff are friendly and loads of parking.

I have used the Black Horse for good friendly meals over the past 5 or more years. Since it changed hands at the start of 2017 I have been in twice. The first time a couple of months ago was disappointing but the second time on Friday last 1/9/17 at 1.20 the bar was empty although there were some customers outside in the garden. So as you will guess the atmosphere was uninviting. The food, chicken with mashed potatoes and veg was awful in presentation and taste. I would say to the management look to what made this a good pub/restaurant in the past as it needs resurrecting fast or go out of business

Great place for local drinks, nice community feel when you walk in as everyone knows everyone by face etc. Not tried food since the first week they opened but il have to give it a go soon

Estábamos de vacaciones y alojarse en la zona. Teníamos la esperanza de que el caballo negro, sería un pub local, y fue exactamente eso. Hemos tenido la experiencia de entrar en un pub local y tener todas las conversaciones parada porque estábamos de pie. Ese no fue el caso en el caballo negro. Justo lo contrario. En ambas de nuestras visitas, un cliente abandonó su mesa y se unió a otros para proporcionar un lugar para mi esposa y para mí en este pub. Que fue muy apreciado y se caracteriza nuestras dos visitas a este pub. El personal era amable y muy competente, los clientes amigables y disfrutamos ver familias y amigos para pasar un buen rato. Disfruté los calamares entrante ambas noches. Tuve el pastel de carne con cerveza ambas noches, era tan buena, las patatas fritas eran buenas, y nuestra acompañantes de aros de cebolla eran excelentes. Gracias Black Pub de caballos.

Yo y mi otra mitad metimos a cenar, hemos estado antes, y nos encantó la comida, así que decidimos ir de nuevo.

Así que esperar una hora para una pizza y sale completamente quemado alrededor, cuando l preguntó si ha tomado tanto tiempo para cocinar, ¿cómo ha me quemé? El chef quería asegurarme de que estaba crujiente fue la respuesta! !

Este lugar tiene una bonita decoración con un tema local. Un buen menú de comida de pub, precios razonables y un personal atento. Buen aparcamiento y baños limpios. Un ambiente amigable comunidad local demasiado bien merece una visita! !

El pub estaba bajo amenaza de cierre, aunque era popular entre la gente que disfrutamos de la comida tradicional que muy razonablemente siempre a buenos precios.

Probably we were unlucky, visiting just before the rugby started... however the experience was rather negative. Staff was not very polite. We waited 20 minutes for the starter even if nobody else was eating... probably just because the waiter could not be bother to go in the kitchen and collect the dish. The whitebait were soggy in oil, not crispy. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes to get the main... problem is that during all this time (since before the starter was served) we could see in the kitchen our dishes ready under the warming light... in the beginning we thought they were not our dishes... unfortunately they were... and when we received them they were exactly as you would expect dishes that have waited more than 30 minutes... my pie had completely lost shape and the burger was barely edible... we had tummy aches for most of the day... definitely no again

Went here for lunch today with my sister, my son and my two nieces for one of my nieces Birthday and had a great time. The food was delicious and loads of it and the staff were, friendly, attentive and helpful. The decor and the atmosphere were great too. I'd highly recommend this pub and look forward to going back again.

Four of us popped in for a drink and to look at the new menu.Started of well but then the football came on i don't mind football being on at all but it was so loud.It really put us off going in there to eat.we saw 2 lots of people walk in and then out again.Think you are losing custom which is a shame as food looks so good.

First visit after the pub reopened after refurbishment and change of ownership. Found the pub to be brighter and more attractive, but sadly the beer had gone downhill. Both my brother and I had different draught beers and we both found an unpleasant metallic aftertaste. Other patrons have said the same. While we were there, other guests were complaining that their food orders had taken well over an hour and a half to arrive, and when they did they were cold and unpleasant.

We visit the Black Horse regularly and find the staff friendly and welcoming, reasonably priced drinks for the area. It is closed for refurbishment at the moment so I'll be curious to see what they have done with the place

Don't do food in the evenings, a long walk in the rain for nothing.....A drawback from not having your own wed site I guess.

Came from Cheshire to see our family and granddaughter, called in to their local, good beer and friendly locals and staff. Very traditional, enjoyable pub. Definitely go again on our next visit

Great pub. Very friendly staff. fantastic food. Great price.You will not be disappointed with quality, price and portion size.nothing to much trouble for the staff. We were made very welcome.No children after 3pm.This I like.My husband had ham egg and chips. Proper thick ham and lots of it.I had liver and bacon. fantastic.Just how I remember it from my childhood.When in Windsor again we will be back.

Dropped in on a Saturday lunchtime, it's a lovely old fashioned local pub. There's good food and the staff are very charming & helpful. The menu is what you'd expect from a local pub and it's not expensive on the pocket.

Sempre vou e adoro!comida muito boa e grande variedade de cervejas!(das boas!!) e sempre que tem uma banda pode ter certeza de que ela vai ser ótima e só tocar música boa!!Único problema é que tem que chegar cedo ou ser paciente com filas :) porque sempre lota!

You would not be disappointed in the quality and prices of the excellent lunches along with real ale in fine condition.

Food really well cooked, a little expensive for a buffet.Seating a bit iffy but then they need to cater for children of all ages.

We popped in just before they were about to finish serving lunch . Could not of been more helpful. Good food , great service and some excellent real ale including Doom Bar and London Pride. We have not been in there for years and we were not disappointed. A huge choice on the menu of very reasonably priced food. Well worth a visit. We will certainly be returning.
