Good service 👌, hunters chicken was decent, fries are very dry but lemonde was nice.

Perfect journey-break inn experience. Stopped by to break-up a car journey, and so glad that we did. This is no-frills, genuine hospitality backed up with excellent food and quality local ale. Apart from the lovely 'real-people' staff, what we really liked was the quality of the ‘small-plate’ fayre. When one is halfway through a long journey a typical gut-buster pub lunch is the last thing that you need. In this respect their menu really hits the spot. Creative, well presented and delicious. Well done! I wish you every success for the future.

We had a family meal and the food and service was top notch, we will definitely be going back. The food was all home cooked and the service was 100%. Would recommend going here if you are looking for a great meal out.

We have held 3 family events here now and the catering staff and empathy have always been first class. Pam is lovely and always ensures everything goes smoothly. Also what a great selection of draught beers. It's a lovely pub.

Had the large roast dinner £12.95. Not the best I've had. Peas hard. Only 4 slices of carrot.. !!!.

A fantastic night at the Black Horse celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday! The food was delicious and the pub has a wonderful atmosphere.. We couldn't of asked for more.. Thank you, for a brilliant night, would definitely recommend 👌

We went for Christmas drinks - hence, no score for food - and ambience was jovial & engaging. It was very busy, but well staffed, meaning service was prompt. It was a lovely evening.

Had the most amazing evening for work Christmas party. The table area was set up so lovely, was warm and cozy with the fire heaters. The atmosphere of the whole night was great and the food was the best. And service was brilliant and friendly . Had the best night, the best food x

We have had many Sunday roasts here and have always been 100% satisfied, but last Sunday 03/12/23 we were very disappointed I’m afraid. My turkey was dry, the roast potatoes very greasy and cauliflower was over cooked. We sat by the door and had to eat in our coats as it open and closed every minute we were there.

We had a wonderful Sunday roast, there was absolutely nothing we could have had any complaints about!

The meal was sausage and mash. Gorgeous 😍

It was nice meal. But we kept getting a cold draft when everyone kept opening and shutting back door.

Pub in Thetford Town centre There was quite a large group of us but service was very good and organised Food was lovely and large portions

It was my first visit here for a year or so with friends. A very friendly and welcoming venue with helpful staff and a landlord who shows a genuine interest in his patrons. The food was most enjoyable. A varied menu of good-sized meals that represent value for money. There wasn't enough room to even consider trying the desserts, so I guess next time it'll be for dessert only!! The venue has a well stocked bar and is ideal for catching up with sport. It also hosts local sports leagues that its patrons teams play in. There are good facilities here, including a large outdoor area with heating to eat, drink, and socialise. Reservations recommended. Closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Amazing Sunday roast! We were visiting the area and looked for a place to have lunch. We were very lucky to find this pub as they serve one of the best Sunday roasts I have tried for a long time. We ordered the mixed Sunday roast, which included turkey, pork and beef and lots of veggies. The roast potatoes were delicious and the Yorkshire pudding was just in the right point. The gravy was homemade and they also served a side dish of cauliflower with cheese. On top of that, it was affordable. I highly recommend this place. The attention was also very good and the locals very nice.

Lovely atmosphere, lively little pub which has great music bands on at the weekends. But also nice and chilled inside which is reminiscent of a very old house with wooden beams and a fire place. Will come again, thanks 🙏

Stopped here on way to airport for a meal and a pint both were top notch great portion size food quality was brilliant and pint was excellent. Will be stopping again next time due to wonderful staff who were accommodating and lovely.

Most excellent customer service. Asked if the ingredients in the gravy was OK for pal with allergy. Food was fantastic as always. It blew our minds that so much attention was paid to one customer.

Chose this pub after a recommendation and were not disappointed. We were a group of 14 and we had pre-ordered from a menu emailed to the organiser. All meals were served on time. Good choices and the meals were very tasty and everyone enjoyed them. Desserts were ordered on the day and were also served quickly. We were well looked after by all members of staff and thoroughly recommend to all.

We visited the Black Horse today for a special family Christmas meal. We hadn't all got together for three years. I want to say thank you to all the staff for a really lovely meal. It was cooked beautifully, and the puddings were especially delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we really enjoyed everything.

This is a great place to eat and drink, the menu is varied and the quality with the new kitchen staff is excellent, a fair portion and a fair price, the staff are really helpful and friendly and are not intrusive, and the drinks are always served properly!! I like going there and having a great evening with friends and not having to ring the building society to arrange a mortgage to pay for for it, a lovely garden area to sit in if you wish, and garden rooms. Excellent place to visit.

We waited over 45 minutes for our food but let that slide as they took our reservation late in the afternoon. The sunday lunch was disappointing. Both Yorkshire puddings were burnt. The vegetarian nut roast was not a nut roast. It was the tangine butternut squash dish moulded into a patty shape. No one wants a sweet mildy spiced Morrocan inspired patty with a few shaved almonds on top masquearding as a nut roast...for a roast dinner. The spiced taste from the tangine butternut patty ruined the vegetables and mash as it was laid on top of them. Please order in some Linda McCartney vegan/veggie pies and sausages, or Richmond vegan/veggie sausages etc. There's so many meat substitutes nowadays so this sucked as I was really looking forward to the roast. The staff were lovely though and the pub itself has a nice atmosphere.

Booked Black Horse for family Sunday Lunch. This is a proper pub run by friendly people proper Sunday lunch all at proper prices. When in Thetford again we will return. We'll done Black Horse.

Best watering hole in Thetford by a country mile.

Proper Norfolk pub. All the locals are friendly and the food is amazing!! I only have one niggle which is Yorkshire pud has a nice brown/black ring on the top. You can still eat it (tastes amazing!) and that's why it's a niggle. The lemon meringue pie is to die for!!!

Best food and service for miles

I had my farewell lunch in the Black Horse after a long overdue visit to my daughter in Thetford. The staff were lovely and the food was great. I had the Brill and roast veg , the day’s special, and it was the best meal (apart from my daughter’s cooking!) that I ate on my month long trip to England. Highly recommended.

Weary traveller popped into the the Black Horse for a night cap and eventually the Landlord Terry appeared and took my order. A large Brandy I asked for Courvoisier or Martell, Martell please. Reaching for a Balloon, No I said a 6 oz Paris please. His hand brought down a half pint sleeve, No I said a gain a 6oz Paris Goblet, His hand then fell on a wine glass, whereupon I agreed, and asked him how long he had been in the pub trade and had he won the pub in a raffle. Not seeing the educational side, said he would prefer not to serve me and asked me to leave, Mind you he has probably learned something and won't be up his own in future,

Found ourselves out and wanting food so looked for a pub with food. Fine weather so was able to sit outside. Pleasant surroundings and at least someone who are reasonable with the covid rules. No don't do this don't do that which I hate. Food was a Sunday roast with a choice of meats. There was a vegetarian option and some other things in the menu. Prices in line. I had the roast. Roast potatoes were good and the meat was not outstanding but good. Vegetables looked and the texture suggested either frozen out of a packet of over cooked. In all, not bad, average. I would eat there again. I struggled with the star rating. I do think 4 stars would be over generous but 3 stars should not be regarded as bad.

We would like to thank you for a lovely meal. The service was excellent and the food was even better! The staff were friendly and attentive and there was nothing that was too much trouble. We had our meal in on of the pods which are perfect if you've got a loud unruly mother-in-law. As Arnold Schwarzenegger says "I'll be back".

First time visit here although under sad circumstances ( a wake ) we were treated with great dignity and respect from all the staff and were seated in the coverd outside pagoda for privacy.... The buffet provided was exceptional with all hot and cold food been home made. I would definitely like to return as the food that was bought out to other customers looked delicious.

Pros Nice atmosphere and friendly welcome. Staff were polite and prompt. Their ordering system is unique and works really well with a card on a stand with a green side and red side that you turn to show them you want to order or not. Cons We said Corona beer and they brought us Kronenburg instead. Only one vegan option Menu is limited in terms or variety and description. We order the chicken nuggets and expected chicken buvbets, but instead we received things similar to chicken balls in batter. These were nice, but not what we expected because the menu description was vague. Small portions. Confusion over whether we were allowed to sit in the sheds at the end of the garden or not.

I visited for the first time last night after coming from Hertfordshire to stay with my parents. What a lovely friendly welcome we had. The cabins are lovely and cosy and really nicely themed. Menu was a lovely homely menu with something for everyone and it made a nice change for the salad garnishes to have had a bit of love put into them. Definitely worth a visit 😊
